Right, firstly this is my first post, so please bare with me.
I have a (UK) Galaxy S that WAS running FROYO 2.2. I recently rooted the phone for various reasons only to find out that some features would not work. I then un-rooted the phone to return back to the standard running 2.2.
During the un-rooting process the phone crashed, and subsiquently would not reboot. I got round this by recovering it using ODIN Ver3.0......But its restored the phone to 2.1, Build Number ECLAIR.XWJMB, Kernel 2.6.29 rootSE-S603 #2, Baseband version I9000XXJM4.
Ive tried to update the system using Kies but it says that it isnt able to update and trying to update using ODIN didnt work. Can i get my phone back to running FROYO 2.2 that i loved so much?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks Rob
PITS
I believe this thing happened to me also. I resolved it by checking if the .PIT as per this table http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm is compatible with the firmware i wanted to patch on my phone.
Hopefully it will solve your troubles too

Alright, so I updated my phone when the first OTA update was released, and it installed successfully no problems. After this I got into rooting my phone so that I could get rid of the AT&T crapware, use launcher pro, and enable sideloading for apps. I thought that I would check for another update since rumors were swirling about 2.2, and to my surprise it detected a package to download. I was able to download it, however it wouldn't finish installing on the phone and said that it could not be installed. Thinking that this was due to my root, I used Odin to flash back to stock and retry the install, and it still didn't work. So, after that I reverted back to the root, and decided to go and check the firmware and baseband version What is confusing to me is that for "firmware version" it says that I have "2.1-update1", but my baseband version still says "1897UCJF6" instead of "JH7". Now when I try to install whatever supposed update that is available, it downloads and then gets stuck at 50% in the progress bar when trying to install. So I guess my question is, should I be worried about this? Is this the current version, and does it just say "JF6" because of my root? Also, will I need to unroot if I want to install the 2.2 update whenever it comes out?
I apologize for the novel, I'm just trying to be as informative about my situation as possible. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
JF6 is the stock firmware and JH7 was the ota update.

Alright thanks, but why is my phone still displaying "2.1-update1" if I still have the stock firmware? Is it because of the root that it is displaying JF6 instead of JH7?

JH7 was also considered 2.1-update1
there is not an official 2.2 yet
Okay well thanks, I think I'm about to just flash to a 2.2 ROM, I'm tired of waiting on samsung for 2.2

I have a I9000t on CellularOne (MTPCS). It's original firmware was I9000tubjg5. I updated to Darky's 9.0.3 and it worked great. However the Wifi would not work. So, I told it to do a factory reset, and this bricked it. So next I used Odin to put a stock 2.1 firmware on it from the XDA forums. This worked, but then I could not connect to CellularOne, only roaming with T-Mobile. I then tried Darky's 8.0, then stock 2.2, and now back on stock 2.1. Does anyone have an idea to fix it back to CellularOne(MTPCS)?
I guess the experts on here don't have a clue about my problem.

More like you are in to much of a hurry .
Your problem is you installed Darkys rom it broke something and you compounded the problem by further upgrades .
Take it back to a clean install using Odin Block 2 method .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
I presume you set your network up manually and you may well have to do it again .If their is no CSC file for your network .
In which case i would personally use Odin to update to Eclair 2.1 and then use Kies for the official update and back up that rom .
jje
I'm also on MTPCS, and i used Darky's procedure from v5 to install. That included an ODIN to 2.1 with clockwork and some other reflashes.
Your best bet is to odin back to 2.1 factory, then start from there. It will take a while, but Darky has the best roms I've seen so far.
Thanks everyone for the info. Nothing worked. I called CellOne and got a replacement. Guess What? The replacement is an I9000 with 2.2.1 preinstalled! Firmware I9000XXJPU.
Hi friends,
i was an iPhone user since 2007 but now i bought Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000, it has "Movistar" logo on its back,
i m completely noob on Android so please guide me.
when i bought my phone it was on 2.0 Eclair then i connected my phone with my laptop with data cable and Samsung Kies.
After connecting:
Samsung KIES showed me Gingerbread Updates
So First KIES updated my phone to 2.2 Froyo
And then it updated it to 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
"""i have read many posts here and as far as i know i think i m on Stock firmware and i updated my phone using Official updates from Samsung KIES and one more thing i want to clear here is before updating my phone my SIM CARD was working perfect no issues and after updating my phone still my SIM CARD is working absolutely fine so i think my phone is fully Unlocked (Please Clarify if i m wrong)"""
So after that long time has been passed i am waiting for Official updates for my phone of Gingerbread 2.3.4 or above but did not find any.
i used 2.3.4 on my friend's phone it works much smoother and faster than 2.3.3 thats why i want to upgrade it unofficially because i cant update it officially.
Can you Please tell me the procedure to update my phone to the latest Gingerbread Stock version unofficially?
Here is what written in "About Phone"
Model Number: GT-I9000
Firmware Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9000BGJV1
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-I9000BGJV5-CL307695 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.BGJV5
I updated my sgs to 2.3.4 JVR which works great for me, and I used a guide on the website androidsoul.com to go step by step how to do it with odin, and if you search around a little there are plenty if guides here on xda as well

Which firmware should i go for there are so many
XXJVP = 2.3.4
XXJVR = 2.3.4
XXJVS = 2.3.5
and many more
And what is the difference between firmware with boot loader and firmware without boot loader ?
Sorry for so many questions i m new to Android.
you should go for XXJVS, or for XXJVT, i use a JVT ROM, and its pretty cool.
well, you always have a boot-loader... BUT, you should not flash a boot-loader, because that is one of the rare ways to really "brick" your phone.
the things you need, are odin, the .tar files you want to flash (you should find jvt or jvs here to download, as well as odin)
and just google for flash guide odin, or sth like that, after a few minutes you wil know what to do.
read carefully! and if some points aren't clear for you, don't bother asking.
(The reason why we don't write a full "how-to" is, because it is really done quite often and should not be hard to find)
I have flashed XXJVS Successfully and its working faster and stable than 2.3.3 its amazing. Thank you All for your Support

probably yes, but hea, you have a smoother phone, btw if you want to return it you search for the firmware you originally had, and you flash that, warranty back!

if you really mess up and brick your phone its mostly the same as if an update via kies fail and brick it
Okay, so I did a factory reset, no custom roms, only had official Froyo and Speedmod kernel. I also unrooted. Why do I keep getting "Unregistered device" from Kies Mini? Maybe it's because my Baseband version on "About Phone" shows "I9000UGJK4"? Or is it maybe that their servers are being bombarded by Cappy users updating their phones? Any help is greatly appreciated.
If you have flashed a custom ROM before, it won't work. Just wait on a Odin/Heimdall one click!

This worked for me, I tried this morning, I had the same issue while on CM9 ICS.
As mentioned flashing any rom your device's I'd might change. I've never had my imei change but read enough ppl to know it happens.

I don't know if this matters, but I've never installed a custom ROM, only a custom modem and kernel. Would that change the IMEI?
Have you messed with unlocking it?
Sent from my ICS powered i897
I'm pretty sure kies mini will detect kernel changes. I had stock froyo with a flashed kernel and it wouldn't let me update. I flashed everything back to stock, but was still rooted, and it still wouldn't let me update. I ended up doing a full flash back to stock kb2 and it finally let me upgrade.
I wonder if I flashed the stock kernel and unrooted if it would have worked. At the time I was too lazy to browse for everything and already had the heimdall package downloaded.

If your "About Phone" shows anything other than SGH_I897 kies mini will not recognize your device. I was running andromeda , wouldn't see it so I went back to stock, oneclicked jf6. After that kies immediatley recognized it. I probably didn't have to go back to jf6 but, I had nothing better to do for that next hour. If you do go back to jf6 you will have to kies mini twice to get GB, first time it will install froyo, when it's done close kies, unplug re-open kies, re-plug your phone kies will show update again, click and sit back and wait for it to finish. ...you now have GB.
Thank you all for your help. I finally got it. I ended up RE-flashing back to stock using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
Turns out that I did in fact have a custom modem and custom kernel, and when I flashed back to stock the first time (I used Clockwork Recovery), it didn't put back the original modem and kernel, thus making Kies Mini not recognizing my phone. So, after RE-flashing the ORIGINAL OFFICIAL Froy update using the above link, everything went smooth fronm there. Hope this helps somebody.
Howdy,
I got my phone replaced after an issue with a no service state. The phone i have now is a i9000. Refurbished, running 2.3.3 xxjvk. My question is does anyone have any solid advice as to which cf root package to flash? I found 2.4-3.1 on his page. My last phone started off with xxjvt which was easy to root. Im not sure what the difference between them all is. I need some help as I dont feel like bricking another phone as my last one died after flashing back to GB rom from an ICS rom. Thanks.
Look here for CF Root JVK kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12651359&postcount=6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30067551&postcount=3 , using semaphore will give you CF root plus CWM recovery
Hey
You can Upgrade to 2.3.6 via odin and then root it...heres a guide
Ok. I got 2.3.3 rooted. I have a question about updating my phone tho, KOR is my region code for the phone...Im in Alaska, if 2.3.6 is for KOR I assume that I wont run into any issues? I didn't used to care with my last one, but since it died Im trying to be nicer to this phone as I need it to last more than 6 months.
If theres an update for csc KOR - which my phone is and 2.3.6 includes KOR, why cant I update using kies? I have the firmware pulled already, and want to move to it but was wondering if there was a different way to go about it than odin.

Sure, you can use KIES to upgrade your phone , just connect and try, if failed than you can use ODIN , they are both samsung software, firmware, Odin and KIES downloads can be found on MY Android Collection..link below
I guess Ill just flash it with Odin as Kies says no update available, which is always its response it seems. So thanks.
