During rooting the SGS I stupidly didn't UN-check the reboot the first time Odin is run. When I'd finished all the instrctions I find it will not boot up but goes back to the recovery page.
Has anyone any ideas how it can be fixed please?
extract and copy update.zip to internal sd-card of your phone
- run odin with auto reboot UN-checked, loading the i9000_Kernel.tar as PDA
- put the phone into download mode and flash the i9000_Kernel.tar
- pull the battery. reboot into recovery mode and flash the update.zip you put in the root folder of your sdcard.
- pull the battery again, reboot into download mode again.
- run odin with auto reboot checked, loading the I9000XXJPH_KERNEL.tar as PDA
if you already frashed successfully
just unplug and turn off the phone by holding the power button
once completely off
push the power button again and it will go into normal boot
Thanks for the help. I managed to reflash and everything is OK now. Got me worried for a few hours. I've tried to root it again but it jams on download. I'm leaving it alone for the moment.

Okay so I was testing out the Molecule ROM along with SetiroN's i9000 Kernel. I installed the backlight notification app on the kernel's page and went to reboot. After the reboot I can no longer use the power button while in recovery mode and when I try to reflash back to stock with Odin I get a FAIL message while its checking the file system. Is it bricked or does someone know a way to fix this?
Are you able to get back into download mode successfully?
This happened to me with i9000 kernels. You should be able to flash back to stock no problem.
remove battery & sim and disconnect phone,
open odin,
put battery in and hold Vol down,
plug in USB,
Flash
Should work for you.
Retore con2.3b6 with Rom Manager, flashed data back, reboot, now stopped at Samsung Recovery Utils mode, Installing Muti-CSC ..., been like this for an hour, be able to use volumn key move up and down, tried clear cache and re-install package, after reboot, goes back to the same screen. Tried to use odin but can't set to download mode anymore, eveytime reboot back to Samsung Recovery Utils.
Thanks for your help.
Possibly try this.
1. Pop the battery out
2. Start Odin on your PC.
3. After 30 seconds, insert battery. Do NOT power on.
4. Hold the volume up and volume down at same time.
5. Still holding the volume buttons, plug into USB. Release once it's in download mode.
Following these steps should force Odin to boot up the phone in download mode. At no point during this should you push the power button at all.

You saved me, flashing to stock now, thanks.
BTW, do you have idea what's cause the problem?
Sorry, wish I knew. I've never had much luck with restores in dg's roms. I'm running Axura RC1 now, and had one successful restore on it.
Hi guys,
Great to hear you sorted out download mode mate.
I have the same problem, and can get into download mode, but Odin stock JF6 just freezes at DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET. It doesn't proceed any further and I have left it as long as 10 minutes.
I have reflashed to stock many times previously and it only takes a second to start flashing.
I'm so worried that my phone is permanently soft bricked... :-(
Any ideas?
Its the lagfix Causing problems.

Sure, but for now the reason why it wouldn't boot in the first place is irrelevant because my problem applies to any soft bricked phone.
Please see here for fix: (post)
So this morning I was using my phone as normal when it froze. Then I rebooted and it just stays bootlooping. I'm using a recent nightly of CM9 and I can't enter recovery mode to reflash the phone. How do I install CM9 using Odin? Is there any other software for that? I can enter download mode just fine.

Maybe its a boot loop. Switch off your phone and check if download and recovery mode is available(see next paragraph).
If so follow the steps mentioned.
First of all download xxjw4 firmware for galaxy gt-I9000 from
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/150483619/708026d/I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip.html
1) Put your phone into Recovery mode (Vol up + Home + Power button) and perform a Wipe data/Factory reset, then a Wipe cache. When done pull the battery out for around ten seconds then re-insert.
(If recovery isn't working ignore this step)
2) Put the phone into Download mode (Vol down + Home + Power button)
3) Unzip the JW4 firmware folder you've downloaded to your Desktop.
4) Launch Odin and click on the button that says PDA and navigate to the PDA file you've just unzipped to your desktop and select it.
5) Connect your phone to your PC via USB. Odin will say Added and a box will turn yellow to indicate it has recognised your phone.
6) Click the start button in Odin and sit back and wait for Odin to flash your phone. When it's finished it will take a few minutes longer for the phone to reboot than is usual so please don't panic. The phone will reboot.
7) When the phone has rebooted, remove the USB cable and you now have the latest 2.3.6. It might be a good idea to repeat step 1 to make sure nothing of the old firmware is left behind.
And that's it, seven steps to 2.3.6 JW4 Value Pack and TouchWiz 4.
In case you want more info about flashing go to this site

Follow this brother!
Could you give me a link to download ODIN? All links are broken and I don't have the program in my PC anymore.

try different USB port. Or different USB cable. Or other computer.
Can it be done? How to do it?
through Odin. make sure it's for the i9305
The most recent CWM ported is in this thread, which also contains a link to Odin. Make sure Kies isn't running and that you have the right USB drivers, open Odin, put your phone in download mode (turn it off, then hold volume down + home while you turn it on again), connect your phone to your PC, and flash the .tar.md5 file as PDA.
1. First, download Odin from this link
Make sure you have the drivers for your phone installed. *If not download KIES from the Samsung site and install*
2. Plug your phone into the computer and start Odin.
3. Shutdown your phone and boot it in to download-mode by pressing Vol. down + home + power
4. Press the PDA-button in Odin and select your CWM-recovery file.
5. Make sure that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are selected.
6. When flashing is done you will se a message "PASS" and your device should restart automatically.
Congratiulations, you now have CWM flashed on your phone
Here's a link to a CWM recovery flashable file if you not have one alreddy. LINK
Creds for the CWM-recovery file upload goes to codeworkx
I have flashed the cwm file through odin. It passed but when I go into recovery it is still the stock recovery and not cwm. Why?
I've gotten the same problem. So.. i flashed the recovery, but whej the phone restarted i shut it down without booting.(i removed the battery when the s3 lte screen showed up). Then i entered recovery and it worked. (S3 lte reflashes stock recovery and other stock things on stock kernel when booting). If you want permanent cwm recovery, flash a custom kernel! I hope this will help you!

Seems to work fine for me
Sean.
A lot of the firmware files on here are no longer hosted at the links provided, so I'm having trouble finding stock firmware to revert to. I did find a one click tool, but it seems to require download mode to function, and I can't get into download mode.
At the top of my recovery mode screen, it says:
Android system recovery <3e>
LRX21V.N900AUCUE0C1
I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of some stock firmware to revert to by sideloading over adb, since that's the only useful option in my recovery mode.
Options:
reboot system now (goes to a black screen, hangs, eventually reboots again back into recovery)
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
apply update from cache
wipe data/factory reset (Didn't help)
wipe cache partition (Didn't help)
reboot to bootloader (goes right back to recovery)
power down
view recovery logs
Enable cp logging
Disable cp logging
Any idea what cause this to happen? Do you have access to a USB jig to try?
I know you're saying you can't get into download mode, have you tried doing a battery pull, fully discharging by holding down the power button for a few seconds, then putting the battery back in, then holding Power button+Volume Down+Home? Remember to keep holding it down until you see Download Mode.
Edit:
Also adding, I believe download mode is actually part of the bootloader, and the bootloader is locked on this phone. If you cannot access Download mode that might mean that those files are corrupt. I could very much be wrong but that is my best guess. Hopefully someone else can confirm or deny this.
