Pure's Default Registry Settings - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. I've got the HTC Pure from AT&T. I was reading through some other posts about registry tweaks to improve the performance of the camera, unlock picture modes, increase photo quality, etc. All of the tweaks seemed relatively harmless to the phone, and the only risk was to the camera if something didn't work.
Well something did not work, but I'm not sure what it was. Some of the tweaks worked fine (like unlocking Sport and Burst photo modes). However, now whenever I take a regular picture with the camera the phone freezes when it displays the picture I just took. The only thing I can do at that point is press the "end/hang up" button to return to the main Today screen in TF3D. But then when I return to the camera app it won't load, and the picture I just took was not saved either. If I run the cleanRAM app, the results show between 1-2megs freed up, then the camera app responds again, but still the same end result.
I've reviewed all the settings in HKLM>Software>HTC>Camera and everything there and in those subfolders appears normal. But I don't remember what the settings were originally. I'm hoping if I return the camera registry settings to their default values this problem will be fixed.
Does anyone have a list of the default HTC camera registry settings? Also, what are the other registry keys that affect the camera besides the folder where I've been looking?
By the way, I did post this same question in the "Windows Mobile General" section, but a senior member suggested I post it here instead. I'm relatively new to this site and didn't realize a specific section existed for the Pure/TD2.

There are multiple keys throughout the registry that affect the camera.
You may need to do a hatrd reset to get it back.

I'm trying to avoid that. I was hoping that someone had a stock rom and could export the registry for me to compare, or at least the sections affecting the camera.
If someone out there (who has NOT modified the registry sections for the camera) could just share the info that would be great.

That would be amazing and really helpful! If it's not too much trouble, after your hard reset, just export the entire registry so we'll always have it as a reference going forward for anyone who needs original values.

Ok, so I finally broke down and did a hard reset on my Pure. It's a pain in the butt, but there was no other way to fix the little irritating glitches that I was having.
After the hard reset, the VERY FIRST thing I did was install PHM Registry Editor and export a backup of the entire registry. I also created a separate backup of the camera settings in HKLM>Software>HTC>Camera, because that was where I think the problem was coming from.
However, PHM creates .rbk files, not .reg files, and I don't know how to view them. It's all a jumbled mess when viewed with Notepad. There is no option to change the exported backups to .reg files either. But anyway, at least I've got a backup file of the entire registry if I need to reference it later - I'll just have to find a way to actually view these files or change them to .reg's.

HKLM/Security/Phone/Skin - Please export

I need someone to export HKLM/security/phone/skin from their phone. I'm trying to determine what keys were lost on phone when I was trying out some skins. If you could export (or copy/paste) the reg key and the sub-keys that would be awesome. Please post the attachement or the code to this thread...
thanks
enabled 1(0x000001)
ext \windows\phcanhtc.dll
Does that help? Or do you need sub directories also?

I really need the subkeys. What I'm trying to figure out is why my call history and speed dial buttons are using the default icons instead the ones actually in the \windows directory. I've verified that skin's icons are n the windows directory but when I view the phone app, the buttons are back to default (for call history and speed dial only).
If you could export or copy/paste the 'portrait' subkey that would be very helpful.
Here you go. Need more? Let me know.

Have you done any phone dialer skinning on this phone? or is it the original phone skin?
I've got a bunch of text color reg entries so maybe that's the cause...
I did install the black HTC dialer but removed it long ago. I didn't think about that when I exported it... sorry!

no worries....
I made a backup of that key, tehn removed everything that wasn't on yours... rebooting, I'll let you know what I find.
Damn, still got the default buttons.
Griz, can you check your speed dial and call history buttons. Anyway you can snap a screenshot to show what your buttons look like?
BTW.. thanks for all your help on this. If we find a fix I know many threads that will benefit from this....
I don't know if you will be able to see this, I dont have a screen capture app on my phone so I used a camera...? If it's bad, I will load a screen capture app and retake a picture for you. Or maybe you need to see more of the screen?
actually I need the speed list screen and the call history screen. Here's a good & free screen capture util....
Install this from your pc, then assign the magicSS application to a button, go to the screen you want to capture, press the button, save the file. When you are done, reassign the button to the previous setting.
Application credits go to Lou ........ http://www.louterrailloune.com/?page_id=7
OK, how is this?
the 3rd one is what I was looking for...
hate to tell you this, you have the same issue. look at the image used in the call history button in the image above. Now, view the actual files that are used for those images in the /windows directory. The files are:
spd_lst.gif
clg_in.gif
clg_out.gif
clg_missed.gif
The above files should look different then the above image. Do they?
This is what I see in /windows/clg_in.gif
-- scratch that...
that should be the image you see when viewing call history inbound calls, as you can plainly see from your screen shots, what's in the windows folder is not what is being displayed in the phone app.
And here's the kicker, at one point it did match. The image you show above (clg_in.gif) is what my original call history buttons display like. Even on some of the skins I tried, the speed dial and call history buttons skinned properly. I just notice that it won't do it anymore.
Either a registry entry has changed (or been lost) or there's some sort of OS icon cache issue.
The only reason I don't think it's registry related is that those files are usually treated differently when skinning the phone dialer. Most skins will create a folder with the replacement images, then the install will change the registry to display the images in this new folder. These 4 files never get put into the new folder, they always get dropped directly into the windows folder, overlaying the ROM file. Also, I've never seen any registry entry for these images. I would think that the registry entries (if they existed) would be under the reg key mentioned at the start of the thread.
grizzley said:
OK, I never noticed that these were wrong icons. But it's an easy fix. Just replace the ones that are in the /windows dir with the ones you want.
Is that what you are after?

yes that's how it should work, but it doesn't.... it's displaying a set of icons bulit into to the phone app...

Need Button values in Registry - guide to come!

Hello everyone
I have installed one of the Touch Roms and currenty trying to fix the registry entries so that all Icons in Settings/Buttons will show up properly. The functions are working fine (Messanging, VoiceCmd, etc), but some buttons don't have icons and are not named properly. I found the area in the registry where the corrections are done, but I can't seem to figure out what the proper values are. Can anyone with stock ROM lock in the path below and tell me what the values are? I will create a small guide for everyone's benefit!
What I am looking for is all Reg values for all 7 or whatever number of buttons you have programed (40C1, 40C2, etc and values inside like Default, Icon, Name, etc). Feel free to ask questions and I will tell you exactly what I need. Thanks.
Registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
I seen that no one as the stock rom on there wing and is unable to provide the keys so I went ahead and installed it back and exported the keys you needed ........................................ looking forward to the solution for the button issues

Keep Registry Settings: Howto

There occured some problems after doing this registry change, please read posts below.
Ok Guys and Girls,
Because noone could help me with my questiong on howto keep the Registry settings for Hiding Sim Contacts, I searched the registry myself.
After some hours of Try&Error i found the registry entry for flushing the registry on Power off and Soft Reset.
This will help a lot
1. Go into Registry with Resco or other regedit tool
2. Find Entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ObjectStore\Regflush
3. Change Value "ActivityThreshold" from "1" to "0"
Thats it. Have fun
Please test it and post here. If it does work for all, then please write it into the Diamond Tweak list.
Bye

edit: Dont try this!! xD

I don't want to offend you, but you could have saved those hours by just making sure you search / read my articles as is also mentioned in the sticky thread. I've explained the meaning of the value at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/old_blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=898&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 .
"ActivityThreshold specifies the # of reg activity before we force a flush; [FlushPeriod:] Timeout period for a flush (flush occurs if there have been some changes during this period)... These settings cause the registry to flush when there are 256 changes or any changes within a second(which is probably too often.)"
Nevertheless, nice to know the Diamond comes with the default value of 0 and this is why it doesn't necessarily flush back changes to the flash storage. Very few (if any) models come with this setting.
Use this with caution!!! I have problems with my registry now!
@Menneisyys
Thanks for your Article. Have read through it but didnt find it in the forum.
Maybe you can help out a little
There is a problem with my registry now.
As you mentioned the value 0 is possible but now I cant change any registry entries. What do you think happend?
Maybe you can help out. What would be the best value to set?
Maybe people where the Registry is not being flushed can look at the value of ActivityThreshold and tell us.
Thx
aff u ****ed up my device to xDDD, anyone knows how to fix this?

Schaps AdvancedConfig lets you do it, it's one of the options.

Great little program.
Note: I was assuming by "Diamond dialer" you mean the phone skin, if that's not what you're talking about sorry. I didn't realize it gave that much memory, that's the only reason I'm putting this.

Thank you my friend thanks very much...
The problem is, you lose a lot of functionality by disabling it. (Video calls, Volume keys, turn phone upside down to mute, save to contacts popup etc. etc.)
I wish someone could find out why it takes so much RAM and compress the images or something to make it smaller.

Eh, video calls aren't functional for me anyways... I have no front camera...
But yeah, I keep it on because I didn't notice a huge performance difference with it off, and it looks so much nicer when it's there.
It takes memory because of the images. The images are almost all stored in a dll, so compressing them is not easy.

Most images in DLL's can be taken out with a resource editor like Resource Hack. Then you can compress the images and put them back in. If I knew which dll we were talking about, I would give it a try.
I think here is another discussion about the same topic:

But they need to remain as the correct format to work, and they may not work well if compressed...
phcan.dll, and phcanOver.dll (or something like that) contain quite a lot of the images.
The thread linked above is indeed about this particular discussion, but not the same as the OP.

HELP... I ****ed up!

I am a normal user with pretty ok hang on general computing, but I got in way above my head. I sincerely hope someone will give aid.
Originally I was just looking for a way to 1) get my "tasks" to show on the HTCs interface start screen together with calender appointments and a way to record my phonecalls.
During my search I found some tweak-pack that did lord knows what. Among other things it added the options to record phonecalls, but only in wav and on main memory though.
Unfortunately it also made manila work in landscape mode, which I dont like. It flips over everytime I tilt my phone the slightest and I see no use for it actually.
I then downloaded some registry editor and tampered with some "enable landscape" setting under local user/software/manila and changed the value to false". After rebooting my phone still tilts and I cant find the command anymore in the registry. What did I do wrong?
I even uninstalled the tweak pack, which just made the record option dissapear again but the landscape rotating persists.
I also realized that adding the command again is easier said than done. Appearntly it takes much more than just writing it as I need to insert strings, dwords and whatsnot, and I have absolutely no clue about what is what.
Now Im even worse out than before. I have no record option any more, and the manila interface is still tilting. I still havent found a tweak or app that can add tasks to the manila homescreen.
Can someone help me disable the landscape rotaing, point me to a crash course for "phone-tampering illeterals" or recommend some way to get the two sought for features? Especially the call-recording preferably to memcard and mp3 is highly needed. First priority is to stop the screen from tilting though.
Oh please.. Help me out /cry..
about the manila rottion u can disable it by using td2 tools 3 in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536410
sadly that is only what i can help

Unfortunately if you tampered with the registry and did not save a backup, you will need to hard reset to get it back.
As Mohamed stated, TD2Tools will fix your rotation issue.
As far as incall recorder, here's the cab but you'll have to search on how to configure it.
I have not used it, so I cannot verify its functionality.
**Also, please edit your title to remove profanity, as it can only be implied here.... **
Hi,
I can verify- it works.
I use it and Resco Audio Recorder (paid) to record it in format i want (MP3 too) and there i want (phone or memory card)
1. Hard Reset
2. Install a ROM which has option to record a call
Thanks for the help guys. I never tried installing roms. Is there a list somewhere and some instructions on how to do it? Is it reversable without loosing everything on your phone?
With the tools recommended earlier will fix the rotation, the worst problem is averted. I still hope for some way to get a todo-list on my main screen without the cost of uninstalling Manila. But maybe thats not possible?

Read the wiki for flashing for newbies.
It is not reversable and you will loose all your data as well as your warranty if you screw it up.
Not many have been able to flash HardSPL lately which is the precursor to flashing a ROM so good luck with that, you'll probably end up having to pay for it, but it is well worth it.
All questions about flashing should be direct to that thread for maximum exposure and make sure to search and read first before you ask.
There are options on your current ROM to install a Second Today program and toggle between Manila and 2nd Today where you can add your todo list.
Note: not every registry hack is restorable by a hard reset.
