i tried my sim on a diff phone, and it was working, and i have tried diff sim on my phone but it was still not working, im really scared that my phone is broken...

Do you have backup of /efs?
if not, does your /efs folder has .nv_data.bak file?
what is the date of the file?

I have the back up of those at my external SD...
What do i do with it?

Have a look @ Richthofens posts... he explains how to solve the imei problem...

Restore your nv_data.bin from backup with root explorer or through adb
and delete your nv_data.bin.md5 file

Same Thing happened to me today but I have a valid imei number
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

its still not working.. i tried all the things that you suggested... im really worried
my imei is still blank... im regreting the day i updated to JPC

Have you restored your nv_data.bin from backup and deleted nv_data.bin.md5?

yes i did, do i really need to downgrade this to JM8? or can i do this still while in JPC or JPK?

And after reboot still got no IMEI?

Thread moved to Q&A.

Yes... its not working even after reboot

maybe it's permission or ownership issue of nv_data.bin?

sounds like another IMEI issue caused by the Froyo JPH

PROBLEM: Galaxy Ace flashed with Korean ROM for SHW-M240S

Hi All, I have done something stupid and now my ACE is a little bit broken.
After flash procedure with ODIN and Korean rom for SHW-M240S, my IMEI was changed and on a main screen appears sw number. So phone is working but different IMEI persist and this stupid RED sw number on a wallpaper
I was flashing back my phone with a lot of different roms, reset to factory values and still the same. Maybe full recovery from CODEROM could help, the problem is that i don't make backup Hope to find kind user, who will make a clean backup and send it to me... I'm just a girl and probably this is real problem

Why were you flashing a Korean Firmware anyway? You might get away with flash european roms on india or south american aces. But the korean ace has a different feature set. I think you have to restore nv ram which stores the IMEI. Maybe someone with experience with the matter will be able to help.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
Hope that i find someone with experience
Hey!
Maybe this can help out.

Hey, iv got the same problem. Please help us! :-(
I was looking for similar files in European and Korean software... File amss, which is in MODEM tar archive looks suspicious... In all European roms this file has the same size, in Korean rom it's bigger. Maybe it overwrites something important in ACE?
Im trying everything and searching everywhere but still found nothing :-(
maybe someone advise if this helps https://opensource.samsung.com/reception/reception_main.do?method=reception_search&searchValue=S5830
Same here.
one solution is installing VillainRom, there is no sys info on display. interesting!

Im having the exact same problem... phone continually restarts especially after going to "sleep mode". No network access and google play not working.
The installed ROM's were:
-cm-9.1.0-galaxysmtd
-gapps-jb-20120726-signed
I also tried reinstalling these two, but had the same problems.
Has anyone found the solution to this problem?

So, No I have installed 2 more... and both have the same problem, is it my phone? Do I need to format the partitions better? What I have done is:
-Wiped data/factory reset
-Wiped cache partition
-Reset permission
Installed:
-cm-9.1.0-galaxysmtd
-cm-9-20120826-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd
-cm-7.2.0-galaxysmtd
As well as tried installing the cm-7.2.0-galaxysmtd mentioned above, not in all installations though.
I am located in Iceland... dont think that should play a part in it but perhaps I need to change some settings to find the networks?
Hope someone can help me with this... really is too bad not to have my "good phone" any more

Lucky me! I found a backup of my efs folder... what crazy luck! Im guessing that ClockworkMod Recovery auto backed up the efs folder.
But it was just like you said, the "My Android Solutions" pointed me to this thread which listed more than I expected of my problems.
Currently, my efs folder looks empty, but I think its just unmounted. How would I go about restoring the backup efs folder that I have? In "my android solutions", they suggest copy/paste via Root Explorer, followed by reboot and wipe cache, which I did without luck. The efs dir is still empty and probably because it is read only. There must be a simple solution to this since the backup must have been thought for a reason Do you know how I would copy/paste or restore this efs directory?
I figure its best to create a new thread about this, since this one is very old. For those that want to follow that thread, its right here.
Thanks again for your help

[Q] IMEI gone to generic...

Yesterday I flashed the JB rom by Crash (oh, ze irony). It worked for an hour, but then it rebooted and hung at the Samsung logo at boot. When going in to CWM i saw that the /efs could not be found, and I dont have a backup of my efs folder.
After trying nearly everything today, i cant seem to get my own IMEI back. First it was empty, now its the generic one (0049****). Currently im back on GB because i cant get on my mobile network with ICS or JB with the generic IMEI.
I tried most of the tutorials to get it back, tried the GSII_Repair tool, none of them seem to work.
I also tried the .nv/.nv.bak removal/backupping/replacing, but that doesnt seem to help either. Problem in some tutorials is that i have to move the imei folder and the .nv_data file, both of which are not present in my /efs folder.
Can anyone help me out? The phone runs stable and fine now under GB (with the generic IMEI it can work with GB apparently), but i would really like to go to ICS again
You can use (I have a developer IMEI and I use this workaroung right now.) it with ICS or JB. After a reboot you have to change the pin number. After this you'll get your network connection. That was one reason why I used GB a long time - but today I switched to JB (eybee) and had to use this way.

I dont think i really understand you. Under ICS i cant use it, because my network doesnt allow me to sign on. Under GB it does, but id rather just have ICS or JB and my own IMEI...
if you didnt make efs backup your screwed. And no nandroid doesnt back it up. No titanium backup also doesnt.
You need samsung to fix it for you, or get someone, cvxcvx, to that, if you can prove the phone is yours...
you learned the hard way.
I really think all rom makers should have in their first post a line that says back dafuq efs up first.
Anyway, the 49 is not developers, it is test emei, and yea its banned in some countries so if, like in Uk they decide to update banned imei list, you wil lose service.

S3 mini boot loop problem

Earlier today after the installation of a music player from google play(i include the music player part because the incident occurred about 2 hours later), my phone has been doing constant boot loops.
It was working perfectly until it just suddenly blacked out, restarted itself and it makes it as far as samsung logo until it restarts again.
This was a pure stock s3 mini. When i came home, i decided to flash TWRP and change to a reputably working PAC kitkat. However the boot loop persists.
Any ideas? i'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance.

multiple times. Unless TWRP isn't getting the job done, which im sure isn't the case. I read a few threads where people had similar problems and it was suggested to do a battery change so ill try that and see what happens.
Guys i need some answers for a few questions please, or if possible, a link to thread(s).
1. Phone versions: Is there a way to identify your phone's version, example "I8190XXANC2", without having to turn on the phone. Im trying to locate my stock 4.1.2 JB.
2. I found a guide to unbrick soft-bricked S3 mini's. My problem matches one of the characteristics which is rebooting on its own after samsung logo. The guide includes the files, (and the stock ROMs hence why im trying to find my phone's version) and a param_I8190.tar file, which they say is to be used should the phone be stuck in a boot loop. My question here is, should i try the param_I8190.tar with Odin without flashing the stock ROM (i never rooted or customized my phone by the way)?
Again...thanks in advance for any assistance.
Just leaving this here...
The phone is apparently constantly unmounting the system and efs partitions. Whenever i reboot in recovery they are always unchecked. Is that normal?
Also it appears the phone works normally WITHOUT a sim card.....but i obviously need it to work with it.....i am baffled here and desperately need some assistance...any assistance.

Of course it's normal if system and efs are unchecked in recovery. So you mean your phone only booting without a sim card?

yea pretty much, thats the only hiccup. Would that have anything to do with the efs itself? Im still trying to understand what exactly it controls.

EFS is a folder that is saved in our smartphones. It controls IMEI number, serial number, WiFi MAC address, Bluetooth MAC address and many more. it means it's a very important folder and if you delete this folder then you can't call someone, turn on WiFi (because you don't have a MAC address anymore), Bluetooth etc. Only Samsung devices have an efs folder

flash the official firmware through odin. it should fix your problem. if it doesn't work then i don't know what to do else
ok thank you both. i also just found the official stock rom for my firmware. I did some digging myself and i believe i know what the problem is now. It appears the phone is missing it's nv_data.bin file, which i read induces a bootloop if it isn't present.
I will attempt the flash with odin and report in later. Hopefully it works.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with param or cache because the phone bots without sim.
Most likely is't something wrong with baseband or modemfs-folder.
Try to flash stock rom first and report back please.
DON'T do anything with your /efs. i8190 does not have NV_data.bin in efs like most sumsung devices do.
