[Q&A] Switching Sprint HTC to PagePlus - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Mods please delete.

Following your every move!!!
Trying to move 2 Heroes to PPC this weekend.
I am using KittyWireless.com to make the transition from Sprint to PPC.
I'll make sure I post my results as I go along.
Thanks for all of your work!
~Syn

No problem, one things I would like to ad, I found a guide, that is for the Sprint EVo to pagePlus which EVERY step is the same, the guide isn't mine, but I'm going to upload it to my personal server
guide: http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip
the zip contains, 2 PRL's, the guide, the APN needed for MMS and APN backup and Restore.
Now, load the first PRL, pageplus.prl when first provisioning, after you are done doing all changes, (including APN Backup & restore) and reboot phone and verify that data works, load the second prl, pageplus1.prl , reason being, that first prl is a non-evdo prl so that it forces phone to go 1x only, which resets HA and autentication keys.
The second PRL is an EVDO prl, only issue I've noticed is sometimes EVDO is spotty.. however we are limited with Data an PagePlus, so WiFi is best, but at least now you can get on web if needed and recieve picture messages.

Do you still have the files posted above? Thanks. I am switching an EVO to PP.

Hey TpyoKing,
you wouldnt happen to still have that android.zip file for flashing a phone to Pageplus would you??
TIA,
Julian

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for what you do to your phone while preforming these steps, the info here is not made by me but is a mix of previous experience and a few other guides on the internet.
as of today (9/28/2010) DATA and SMS (Picture messages) DO NOT Work, I'm still trying to figure that part out.. However Calls and Text and all the other functions of the phone do work!
1st) thing you have to have is root for your phone, if you have that then great! Also you need to be running a NON-Froyo Rom (the froyo roms, I've tested thus far) are lacking EPST which will be used later to program the phone.
2nd) Search the Market (Via WiFi) and download MSL reader
3) Write down that MSL (will need it later)
4) reboot phone
5) download http://www.bpcr.biz/buddy/Android.zip and put on root of SD card
6) on your phone pull up the dialer (hit the green button) and put in ##775# (##PRL#) and put in your MSL code you got earlier
7) select "update PRL", drop down "Folder" to "SD Card" and push down on your navigation ball and then long press the "menu" key to make your keyboard lower and select pageplus.prl then select "ok", then press your "menu" key and hit commit modification
8) phone will reboot (Congratulations your now on verizon towers!
9) Get PagePlus to activate phone (eg, contact a local dealer) , tell them you are manually programming a Sprint phone and give them the IMEI and that you need your MIN/MDN and SID.
**Update**
Easier method!
10) on your phone, pull up the dialer and dial ##YOUR6DIGITALMSL# , then select edit mode
11) change Mobile Directory Number (MDN) to what is given to you by PP/dealer
12) change MSID to your MIN (Mobile Identification Number) as suplied by PP/Dealer
12) press menu
13) commit changes
**** older method***
10) Now that you have that information, dial ##3424# on your phone
11) Click "edit mode"
12) Enter the MSL from earlier
13) Select Data Profile, then change the username to [email protected]
14) press your physical menu button and select commit changes
15) re-do steps 10 and 11 but this time, select Advanced instead of data profile
16) now select MSID and change it to your MDN
17) now select Home SID/NID, input SID supplied by PagePlus Dealer and NID is ALWAYS 65335
18) press your menu button again and commit changes
19) ENJOY your pre-paid HTC Hero!
************* UPDATE*******************
I now have working data with PagePlus, now to solve MMS problem!
Will update shortly with tutorial on howto get data & MMS

Thanx for this man!

Here is a link to the latest Verizon 52031 PRL file I managed to find for Sprint phones working on Pageplus with annoying Roaming Indicator turned off.
http://goo.gl/7L1XF
If you anyone else manage to find any later version than this PRL please share it with us like I did

what does step 6 mean??

does this work for the evo shift as well?

does this work for the evo shift as well

yes it works for the shift as well.

well, after days of messing with it, when I couldn't get anyone to help me, I finally got true 3g on my sprint evo 3d to pageplus without a donor phone. (I know this thread is about the 4g, but maybe there are other poor btards like me looking for help)
Problem is, I'm not sure what did it, so take this with a pinch of salt. I THINK what did it was putting a 1x only prl in, then letting it get connection, then putting the 3G prl in, letting it work stuff out, then putting the 00002.prl (Pageplus) in. Don't ask exactly what the problem was or how to fix it, I don't know. Just trial and error along with a few crisp apple ciders.....
Here's what I did....(prl's attached)
MDN and 00002.prl
OTA
the usual [email protected] stuff
I used qpst and dfs
clear nam/baner name
load 51600_1x prl, rebooting,
setting to CDMA only mode (epst),
rebooting, loading 51618 prl, reboot.
Ended up with mode CDMA_HDR in DFs. Then set to Automatic, loaded 00002.prl.
Not sure what else it took, but that did something. Also set DMU MN auteth to 11.11.11 from 0.0.0 (not sure that did anything though)
This got a PPP password and that's all it seemed to need. AAA HA passwords are still blank, but it is EVDO, not 1x, and tests at the same speeds as my other phone on 3g.

Nice.

Cingular Internet via Underground WM6 rom

Can anyone get their cingular internet (edge) to work?
yea.. i did. you just have to extract the files from the Cingular EXT Rom. It includes a CAB to enable Edge and the Edge icon.
*In the attached EXT ROM, Signed_Edge_Icon is the Icon itself, and EONs is the cab that actually enables Edge. Install EONs first then the icon.
~Stefanelli~
Thank You !!!!!
Okay, I installed both like you said and it still does the same thing. When I click on IE, it says it can not connect with current connection settings. To change your settings, tap settings.
Is there a setting I still need to change? How do I access the edge icon you were talking about that.
Have you tried running this cab file?

am I supposed to do something after I install the cab file or is it supposed to work automatically?
You have to make sure that you have the correct settings in!
Go to Connections, then to advanced. Tap 'Select Networks'. Create a new connection profile, name it MEdia Net.
Then tap Modem and tap...
Create New
(name it Cingular)
Enter a name for the connection. From the "Select a modem" drop-down, select Cellular Line (GPRS).
Tap Next.
In the "Access point name" field enter wap.cingular.
Tap Next.
Verify the following profile settings, then tap Advanced:
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1
Domain: Blank
Verify the following settings and tap Ok.
Use server assigned IP address: Selected
Use specific IP address: Unselected
Use software compression: Unchecked
Use IP header compression: Checked
Tap Finish.
Tap Ok.
Give that a try.
Just so you know... Those settings are for Cingular users... not AT&T... so if you are AT&T tell me and I'll give you settings for that... but what you have said tells me you are Cingular. Hope I've helped.
I am cingular.
okay, when i attempt to connect to the internet, it says the answering modem has disconnected. to check your connection settings, go to settings...bla bla bla.
Is the password "CINGULAR1" was the 1 and caps typo?
no it should be caps and there should be a 1 at the end.. the settings i gave you are directly off the cingular support site.. so they should work..
-Stefanelli-
Oh good GOD, I was the one with the typo. I was typing WPA (like the encryption) instead of WAP. Thanks for the help. I'd buy you a beer if I could
If you simply run the cab that golfernutnflorida posted all those GPRS settings are there.
I'm on Cingular and I'll be damned if I had to put those settings in by hand the numerous times, sometimes daily, that I flash a new experimental ROM!
In other words, I keep that exact cab on my SC.
Exactly! The less I have to put in under a Rom Flashing, the better.

Essential processes for AT&T Tilt Users after each rom flash

Essential processes for AT&T Tilt Users after each rom flash
I know this has been mentioned thousands of times throughout this forum yet n00bs often need assistance fixing their hardware keyboards, email, HTC weather, quick gps, and so on after they flash a new rom for the first time.
While hanging out in Bansville for a couple of days I realized I have been answering the same questions continuously. This is a mini text tutorial, which offers simple fixes for imperative AT&T settings.
So you installed a version of hardspl, flashed a new rom, and performed a hard reset. What next? Well primarily in all probability, you want to make sure the clock settings are in am and pm format and the date is set to m/d/y. To change your clock settings follow this navigation
Start>settings>system>regional settings>time tab>time style drop down set to h:mm:ss tt
To change your date setting:
Start>settings>system>regional setting>date tab> select the date style of your choosing and select ok.
Next, I like to restore my files such as my appointments, contacts, text messages, etc. I personally prefer to use PimBackup. Below is a .zip file for PPCPimBackup. It is an uncomplicated program to use and a lecture is unnecessary to navigate throughout this application, as it is straightforward.
After I restore my files, it is time to inaugurate the Tilt keyboard fix, which repairs your slide-out QWERTY keys to be mapped correctly. For example, without this fix Fn+W will appear as ! opposed to @. Below is the cab file you need to install to remap the keys appropriately. Following the installation of this cab file, perform a soft reset.
The next thing I usually do is correct my connection settings. First, I install ATT_Settings.cab, which you can find below. Then I navigate to the following:
Start>settings>connections>connections>select the advanced tab>select networks>Change both drop downs to Media Net> select edit on both drop downs>proxy settings tab>uncheck everything for both media nets that you changed>then hit ok or x when you are finished.
At this time, I set up my email. However, remember NOT to save your password, you will do this in the following step. If you are using HTC HOME, most likely you are, select the little envelope and create a new account. You can find your email settings by using google if you are using pop3 or whatever.
Next, after I set up my email without saving the password, I install removehiddenproxy.cab, which you can find below. This cab file is important as it allows your pop3 email account’s password to save without adding extra characters, allows for your quickgps to function properly each time, and it also allows you to use HTC Home Weather without getting a connection failure. So install this cab then go back to the email you just set up, edit the account setup, enter your password, and save it. Now, go back to your today screen and tap your weather tab. Now tap Select City and select your city (*Note there are a few patches available to select your town if you do not live in a big city). Anyhow, notice the menu button where your right softkey is, select menu and turn your temperature scale to Fahrenheit and select done.
I suggest setting up your WiFi at this time too.
Well this is my mini tutorial for a basic setup on your AT&T Tilt after you flash a new rom.
Have Fun Flashing and Take Care.
*Special thanks to the creators of these cab files and JimmyMcgee for teaching me the basics.
Am I missing something too?
Is there something to do regarding getting a reasonable GPS fix after flashing newer 6.1 roms or is it a known problem. I keep flashing down to older 6.0 roms with 1.27.14.09 radio because of the faster GPS fix. I would love to use the newer roms but GPS fix time is a deal breaker for me. To save you some time I use SPL 3.28 with 6.0 roms and 3.56 with 6.1 roms. I bounce between Q-mobile and RomEos roms now that we lost dutty. Ive tried all the newer radios and personally they all stink for GPS. Sorry about your brief ban and welcome back, I need your wisdom
*cough* sticky
AWESOME. I keep saying I need to: Start fresh, get NetCF 3.5, get a light rom. But it all seems so complicated to go from current configuration to start over completely, but this will help a lot! Thanks! Now to find the time and the 'right' ROM.
Thanks very much for the reminders, and for the CABs. I flashed my first 6.1 ROM last night, and forgot all about the hidden proxy!
I agree that this really needs to be a sticky...
This is a good tutorial, but here is a good side note to add.
By removing the hidden proxy (which ya do with the removehiddenproxy cab), Tilt users won't be able to get to media net (http://device.home or http://home) or cingular video as the hidden proxy is needed for those.
Then they should just use the Restore Proxy, and that will allow MEdiaNet.
Proxy Manager has both in it.

Did you try 1.71.09.01 ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410953
Been having the same issue and finally I think got a break. Tried about 10 SR's and the lock times are steady inside the house.
BTW using DK2
does windows mobile have a localhost file like windows? would remapping those to their needed servers allow the bypassing of the proxy?

you were unable to open the zip file? I'll check it out and reupload it if necessary.
edit: works ok here my friend. Unzip the file to your desktop and move it to your storage card then run the program hopefully it works for you.

I deserved the brief ban.
Anyhow, I noticed that when running 6.1 roms with the Tilt you need an application such as HTC GPS Tool or GPS Test, to open your internal gps, prior to opening your GPS Software.
These are the steps I use to utilize a GPS Fix after each soft reset:
1) download latest updates for quickgps
2) Open GPS Tool>com 4>baud 4800>Hot Start>Then click Open and wait like 30 seconds
3) Open TT7
*If you fail to get a fix after following these steps close all programs and repeat. Eventually you should be getting fixes within seconds.
I've attached GPS Tool for you, good luck.
What exactly does the remove hidden proxy cab do on AT&T Tilts? If you go into your connection settings and uncheck the proxy server- is that the same thing or something different than the cab file does?
Hey Red,
I attached an ATT settings cab which does not enable the proxy by default, and also enableds creation mode in MMS settings. I thought it might be helpful for your thread here. Also, it may seem too advanced for beginners, but i have a thread started here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418468
This has a step by step guide to how to create an xml file using Schap's Advanced Config 3.0, which can be used to provision all of your advanced config preferences during your UC setup. This tool has really made it very easy to do reduce the amount of work that goes into flashing.
I also attached a cab for total commander, a free, more full featured file explorer; gps test, another gps tool; and advanced config 3.0. Hope it helps.
Thanks... this is a great thread!!!

It removes a HIDDEN proxy, one that you can't remove without a cab. Without it enabled you can't connect to medianet home, and some other things. Most users like to disable it for a myriad of reasons, one of which is that it causes you to be unable to browse while connected to your laptop.
The box that you check in connections is a separate issue, and i think that is actually just old settings, i'm not sure, since even on the AT&T website it tells you no not to have that checked.

Awesome. So, if I run the cab and remove the hidden proxy- can I then tether my laptop (connect to the net using the Tilt's data)- without getting caught by AT&T? Or is there more to tethering without getting caught?

Need help "fixing" a HERO that was working on MetroPCS

So I got this HTC HERO yesterday from this guy.
I had a hard time getting it to switch/activate to my account on Metro.
Seems the MSL was reset and 000000 wasn't working.
Used CDMA workshop to find out what it had changed to, set it to 000000. Then I was able to edit the MDN MSID and get the phone to work and update PRL via *228.
But Data didn't work.
I used the universal root, used clockwork app to flash amon_ra recovery, made a backup.
And before I got a chance to edit the previous users' gmail/market info, he changed his password, so I couldn't find a way to change that. I used recovery to factory reset/wipe the phone and went through the set up wizard.
Data still doesn't work.
I flashed the Cricket/metropcs mms/web fix, but the phone has stock 1.5 on it, so that didn't make a difference. I am getting an error 67 now though.
Just tried to flash damage control, but it froze at the X animation after a long while or animating..
Just restored back up.
Anyone care to throw a dog a bone, I need some links/threads any help to get this working again.
thanks,.

page about switching phone from Sprint to PagePlus (Verizon) you will get the error 67 unless you are using sprint so diregard that, I dont know if these settings would work for you...but worth a shot right?
quick look up for info:
mmsc string: mms.metropcs.net/mmsc:3128
hahah sweet here ya go my man
Remove your MicroSD card and plug the phone into your PC via USB cable then open QPST (QPST Configuration, then go to Start Clients and select Service Programming) and then read the phone.
Once you read the phone, go to the m.ip tab and change from mobile ip to simple ip. Then look at the first 2 user profiles under m.ip open each one up and change the Nai to [email protected], for both standard and tethered...
remove any ip address that you find in these 2 profiles. and remove any other profiles except the first 2.
also make sure both of them say enabled.
Now go to ppp config tab...
look at the tabs that say um and an... under these 2 tabs,, the user id should be [email protected] tethered id should be the same,, password is metropcs in lowercase on both tabs, remove any dns ip address you find in either tab also. just make sure all ip address are blank.
once you are completed with this make sure you write to the phone and move on to the next step..
Step 2.
click on phone icon (on the phone)
click on the dialer..
enter ##3282#
click user name
click edit
enter your spc which should already be 000000 by now
Here are the settings:
User Name "[email protected]"
SPI MN-HA "1234"
SPI MN-AAA "1234"
M Home Address "000.000.000.000"
Prim Ha Ip "255.255.255.255"
Sec Ha Ip "255.255.255.255"
Rev Tunneling "Off"
AAA Password "metropcs"
HA Password "metropcs"
click done and allow the phone to reboot...
Step 3.
Now do ##3282# again.. this time go to browser
click edit
enter spc
youll see gateway1 and gateway2, under both of these
you will see primary and secondary,,, set primary and secondary ip`s for both gateways to 010.223.002.004,, they will all be the same ip address,, and set the Port 3128 and secure Port 443 for all gatways to ,, hit done and reboot.
Also this should work on quite a few other Sprint phones,,
This is what I do for a living at the wireless company I work for,, and so far it has worked on Samsung upstage, Instinct,, Sanyo katana, and many others,,,
all that info is from a page linked from howardforums.. heres the offical link: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...nstinct-Web-WAP-Settings-(working-100-)?pp=15
Step 3.
Now do ##3282# again.. this time go to browser
click edit
enter spc

Cool thanks, this is the only thing different from other guides I have followed. Appreciate your time and help.
I've seen people running phones on Metro without rooting or custom roms, so I know it's all got to be in the phone's settings, once it's been houdini "flashed" (esn added to metro's database).. That's how this phone came, guess we lost all the settings when we reset to factory somehow..

Unfortunatly no. It is not saving the password in qpst. But if I look at the settings thru the phone with ##778talk it shows them correctly but still no data.
One tut I followed metions using the msl and proxy.metropcs.net instead. I finally got the phone to give me an error 131, invalid or wrong user name or password.
Read another tut that suggests using [email protected], gonna try that next.
Baffling, I've been doing metropcs phones since 2004 motorola razor. First android though.

Clockcycle, what you need is the settings within EPST ( ##3282# ) for your provider and the APN File ?

Got it working, did 3 things. Changed password to msl made by whiterabbit site instead of metropcs or the phone's msl.. Changed 2 other settings; CDMA only and flashed token's 3 instead of 3.5.
Icon changed to 1x with data arrows and a 1x D, web, mms, market all working!
Thanks.

[Q] How can I flash my hero running cm7 to metro pcs with working mms?

All in the title, is it possible?
I would imagine you need to access your EPST settings (dial ##778#) and alter them so they match your service providers' settings (you will need your 6-digit MSL code to change the EPST settings).
If ##778# doesn't work on your ROM, you may need to flash to another ROM (like Bittersweet Sense ROM), then configure your EPST settings, and then flash back to CM7.
Alternatively, you may be able to change the EPST settings with the program QPST Configuration/Service Programming and/or CDMA workshop 2.7.0.
Search around the Hero CDMA forum for anything to do with Metro PCS flashing and start reading.
From my experience this has to do with the APN of the phone.

A lot of this is true and I'm also going through it right now in Ohio with Revol Wireless. Just found out last week actually that MetroPCs is buying out Revol Wireless as well.Anyways...I was told by a certain individual here at a Boost mobile store that also flashes for Revol and Metro PCs that when you flash the phone to another network such as Revol or Metro PCS that they only actually do a half-flash on the phone. The calling and messaging work but you must have Wi-Fi to connect to the internet. SMS works but you cannot receive picture messages or MMS. This individual also told me that he had the capability to do a FULL-FLASH of the phone onto Revol for me so that I would even have my mobile internet as well as the picture messaging and MMS capability. He also told me that if you transfer to BOOST Mobile, they have unlimited talk, text, and web for $45 a month and it is a FULL FLASH. I may just go to Boost pretty soon and tell Revol Wireless to suck it! Hope my info helped you out or gave you some food for thought!
P.S. There is some cellphone software out there called Houdinisoft that is used to flash phones. Check their phone list first to make sure you can flash whatever phone using their software, the CDMA HTC Hero200 IS on the list for Houdinisoft. Ask around about it at cell phone stores, they may not say much about it because they dont want the consumer to know how to flash phones. Just some more food for thought.

Getting LTE to work on Ting with Cyanogenmod M12

Writing this because it was 2 days of pulling my hair out to get LTE working. There may be shortcuts to some of this, I don't know them, or care to. I am writing this to help others. Currently I am on build 12-2015-04-08-Nightly-m7spr.
Problem: Could not get 3G or LTE to work on Ting's Sprint network. I would get the bars with an exclamation mark. Hitting the Reset Defaults as suggested elsewhere would sometimes bring up the list of apns, mostly there was an empty apn list. When they did come up, Ting was at the bottom, but there was no radio button to select it. You could also not add any APNs. If you tried and hit save, it immediately disappeared. (Hitting the reset would also sometimes get a temporary 3G connection that would be lost quickly.)
Solution: You need to edit the apns-config.xml that is located in the /system/etc folder on the local device storage. NOT the sdcard.
Steps: So to do this I used ES File Explorer to copy the apns-config.xml to the sdcard and then onto my desktop and used a text editor to go in and entered this line in the middle of the Sprint apn entries. I did this because Ting was at the bottom without a radio button on the original list and just hoped locating in the middle of the Sprint entries it would help.
The line I entered is below:
<apn carrier="Ting" mcc="310" mnc="120" apn="n.t8.ispsn" type="default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri,internet,dun" mmsc=*NOTE* mmsproxy=*NOTE2* mmsport="80" protocol="IPV4V6" roaming_protocol="IPV4V6" />
NOTE:The forum says I can't post a link so the mmsc entry in the line above needs to have the text *NOTE* replaced with double quotes around an h tee tee pee colon forward slash, forward slash mms dot plspictures with a dot com at the end. Hope that makes sense.
NOTE2: This should be replace with double quotes around six eight dot two eight dot three one dot seven.
This line was gleaned from several locations. The existing apns-config.xml and other websites with suggestions.
Now you need to get it back onto the device. You can't just do a copy onto the existing file because it is in use. So you have to boot into recovery. Obviously USB debugging needs to be turned on and I also turned on root access to ADB (don't know if required but I did it).
I use Clockwork Mod touch so once in recovery I hit Mount System to mount that partition so we can work with it. Then back on your PC, put your modified apns-conf.xml in the directory where your adb.exe is. If you installed HTC Sync, which has the required adb.exe, it is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Sync Manager\HTC Sync. Then on your PC on the command prompt type these commands.
adb push apns-conf.xml /system/etc
adb shell chmod 755 /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
adb reboot
After the phone restarts, go into settings, Modile Networks, and Access Points Names. You must now hit your three dots in the top right and Reset to Defaults. NOW your new ting entry should appear, WITH a radio button to select. On mine, it actually had already selected it. If not, select it yourself and exit out of settings. Tick tock, 30 seconds or more later, the delightful LTE appears in the bars. My long nightmare is over.
Quick Points:
1. You have to have a SIM card to get LTE. I don't think it does anything else on the HTC One M7 except LTE. If you bought a used phone (which if it is an M7 you had to have at this point) and it came with a SIM card in it is no good because it is registered to another number and can't be changed. Buy a new SIM from Ting, $12.
2. If you get Sprint - Invalid SIM with the new card, you need to call Ting and have them associate your phone number with the new SIM card. Mine was not. If you get this error, this has to be done before any of the steps above.
