If your phone works fine , Please don't go playing with it til official Froyo is out. You don't want to try to explain it to tech guys who might or might not fix your phone
Before you do anything see if you can enter download mode (power off phone, Vol Down , Home and Power button all at once) If you can then move on you phone is good, Remove battery to get out of that mode. If not DO NOT DO ANYTHING TIL FROYO OFFICIAL!.
1) Latest rom is JM8 which works good. DO NOT USE BETA FROYO's as lots of people have had problems as they dont' know what they are doing and new.
2) NO! the ram is shared with gpu/cpu and whatever you can think of, do a search and you will find the answers, If there WAS a fix don't you think we would all be using it by now.
3) Yes, A few of the Lagfixes can make a EXT3/EXT4 "page" file on your external SD card. Some other Lag fixes make a ext2/3/4 file on your internal storage card (not EXTERNAL SD) Safest and best battery lagfix for ME is OneClickLagFix 2.0 from market (makes ext2 partition file in your internal sd card/memory)
4) Most likely you have debug mode disabled in rom. Install new fw.

is jg5 FW out?

No idea, I only follow Euro roms

i checked i am unable to enter download mode. its deissabled on my phone/

Then please don't go flashing roms! you will most likely run into problems and without download / recovery mode you can brick it easy.

Well first you have to downgrade your g1 with the DREAIMG.nbh file. go to this website for more info http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-root-a-t-mobile-g1-and-mytouch-3g-android-phone/ .....good luck
Hey, I'm on android 1.6 with build DRC92 too (= nederlandse versie ofzo?),
and when I try to downgrade using the "DREAIMG.nbh", I get stuck at the rainbow screen.
@tyweezy
The guide says: "This guide is intended for US phones."
And I've bought my G1 in Holland. Is my Build version too high or something?

There are 2 different versions of DREAIMG.nbh, one for us and one for Europe. Get the one that says RC7.http://koushikdutta.blurryfox.com/G1/DREAMIMG-RC7.zip
So did this work? (i'm wondering cause i have the same build and want to root too)
Yes, I used that one, but with no result. If someone did succeed downgrading from DRC92 to RC7 please add me on MSN: daantjuhh_10 hotmail com
Same Problem
Hello Guys, i got the same Problem. I stuck on the rainbow screen with the RC7.nbh
I did downgrade from DRC92 successfully and rooted the phone and installed Super D...
You have to
1) use goldcard
2) use the European version of the nbh file (if your phone is European)
3) if you get stuck at the rainbow screen - take out the battery, put it back and reboot again. I was also stuck but battery out and in helped
did not work
I've just tryied to follow the steps described here
h t t p : / / mapleator.de/?p=19
I created the so called goldcard... downloaded the DREAIMG.nbh file... but I always get stuck in this rainbow screen.
Rooting UK phone in USA
I bought a t-mobile g1 in London but am now back in the US. I have this same build of Android, but am not sure which set of directions to follow. I'm inclined to follow the US directions because this is where I'll be using the phone but is there something specific to the hardware that would make me want to use the UK instructions?
To root, simply use AndRoot, available in the Market It even flashes you a custom recovery!
Hi everyone
I was really having trouble rooting my UK G1 with 1.6 and version DRC92
Now it's rooted, the only problem is that after all the different methods, goldcard, superuser & simply copying the RC file with different SD cards, the latter finally worked for me.
DISCLAIMERthis could damage/break your phone and encourage a permenant loss of data - I am in now way responsible for the lost of data AND/OR damage to your phone in any way, shape or form
Here we go
- Backup EVERYTHING on your PHONE & SD CARD, if this does work, there's NO going back
-Put you're sd card (mine was in this case a no-name 2Gb mSD card) into an mSD to SD adapter and insert it into you're PC
- Right click your card in my computer & choose format
- Make sure the following are checked - FAT 32, Default allocation size @ 4096 and then check quick format (Make sure above all the FAT32 as my card ended up just as FAT for some reason)
-Download the same RC7 as me – EDIT see post #4 of this very thread! that's where I got it from!!
- I was using winrar, get the free version to be on par with me.
- Open the archive, extract it DIRECTLY to the root of the newly formatted sd card, NOT in ANY folders (The name of the file is correct, please dont extract it first and then copy, you must extract it directly)
- Once again, backup ANY IMPORTANT data from you're phone's internal storage (see disclaimer above)
- Turn off your phone
- Take out your mSD card from the computer
- Put it into your phone
- Hold down the camera button, then press the power button
- Recovery mode should start and a prompt to press power to install update
- When you press power, your phone will be downgraded to 1.0
Note: I had absolutely no luck before, couldn't get it to work, tried goldcard and was going to buy a 2Gb kingson card as I heard it worked with no probs. Then bang, this worked.
I think the main points are: As UK or EU phones we need to use RC7 (whereas some guides are using RC29 with US phones – this can be confusing), the freshly and precisely formatted mSD card in a sd adapter AND above all extracting the RC7 file STRAIGHT to the card whereas before I was extracting it to and then copying it from my hard drive.
Once you have downgraded, you can use the unlockr’s guide to activating over wifi on their site (again I can’t post links, google it or find it on the unlockr’s site>how to’s>Android>HTC Dream/G1>How to activate G1 without a data plan)
I'd be interested to know if this works now for someone else, let me know as I have written myself a guide on how I proceeded once downgrading to 1.0 so just PM me.
Thanks to XDA and unlockr for helping me through!

Ahh =(
I posted a reply hoping I might help someone out, I have no idea why it worked for me as I was getting ready to buy a 2Gb kingston mSD card & try the goldcard method again.
It seems its a bit hit and miss!
After hours trying it did work for me, AFTER I reversed the numbers in the "making a goldcard" procedure in sets of 2! So e.g. 123456 becomes 563412 and not 654321!! Don't forget to replace the first two digits in zeroes.

[Q] Help!

Hy guys , sorry if there was another post like this , but i did not have the time to read all the posts . Until a few month ago , i had a friend that helped me to upgrade my firmware and now i can't ask him no more to help me out .
I have a 2.2 fw version , but i don't know exact what version it is , it is with froyo_doc_v7.6.2_jpa.xwjpa . That what it says in "about phone" . I would really like to upgrade my firmware because i am sure that a new one is up , and i can't do that in Samsung Keys because the present one is a custom one .
So , from the bottom of my heart i ask : Can you help me by explaining step by step what to do to upgrade to a new firmware that could be much better ?like ... stability and performance ? And not mess up my phone?
Thank you very much .
P.S. : Sorry for my bad english
doc's roms are very good and stable,
head over to www.romkitchen.org and make one there yourself (easy peasy)
considering you are on custom ROM i assume you will have 2e / CWM recovery, to boot into this you need to power off the phone, Hold volume up + Home button + power button all at the same time.
anyway download your ROM from the above link, place in on the root of your sd card, and boot into recovery, go to apply update from sd card > choose update from sd card > 'Your ROM name here' then select that and select YES,
your phone will do the rest
Ok , but how do i know which one is the newest from the list that it is provided to me over there? How do i know which one is the best? Is there a android 2.3 or something? or .. 2.4?

I really think you need to read at least the stickies and the FAQs before you go much further...if you can't work out that v11 is probably newer than v9, and are looking around for android 2.4, please educate yourself before you ask someone to hold your hand and walk you step by step through bricking your phone.
The order is supposed to be search, then read, then ask...not just ask because you can't be bothered to read anything.

ok there are standard released firmwares available from samfirmware.com
as long as you can put your phone in download mode (Reboot holding the power, down volume and middle buttons at the same time) you should be able to use these with a program called odin3 (you want version 1.7).
These are all official stock firmware releases or early leaks of of new samsung firmware.
I do not believe there is an official release of a 2.3 firmware yet but there are some leaks and the SGS II is being released this coming week so I would guess official firmwares are either imminent or might even be available (they were then they werent again so I dont know for sure)
Stock firmwares are simple to install with odin as long as the custom rom you are does no have features like lag fixing enabled.
all you do is connect up your phone in the download mode mentioned above select the full firmware file by pressing the pda button and nabvigating to the file you got from samfirmware.com. make sure this is the only file checked. (no pit, no modem, no csc etc) make sure the only boxes checked are auto reboot and f:reset time
push start and wait about 5 minutes later you'll have a stock device.
if this goes wrong in anyway or you have lag fix or other stuff and you want to reset this first, download darkyy's ressurection rom do everything exactly the same as above only also select the pit file that comes with darkyys and also select repartition. get that working and then flash the stock rom as desicribed above.
I have had no issues when I have followed this procedure all my issues start when I deviate from this.
@ rschenck thank's but you have to understand that some of us work from early in the morning to the night , and i don't have the time to stay and read all the sticky posts and all the posts.
@ curioct : Thank you very much for the info . I will try to folow the steps .
But .. i don't know if i have lag fix . I think i do , and if i do omg , i have to instal darky's rom , and after that what?

Dont install anything .
You have a custom rom undo any lagfix build a rom in rom kitchen and flash it .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703

TRY
rom XWJS8 wipe CSC to suit your location
Kernel Hardcore modem JPY
Apps themes tweaks etc you choose
half an hour to build and install .

Open up Kies, and hook your phone up to the PC. See if Kies will recognise your phone. If it does, format your internal sd card. Then disconnect the phone, drop the battery, put it back in and see if it will boot.

Which kernel did you use? To be honest, go back to Windows if following simple guide is too difficult. And camera quality won't be any better in Android.
The only reasonable kernel for NAND is the kernel with separate cache partition. On each other appear errors sooner or later. Install this kernel, reinstall the system and apply the update.
And do not start constantly new threads to the questions on which someone already replied before. Read and search forum!!
You people dont get it .
My kaiser is and android F-O-R-E-V-E-R.
Because i flashed it using kaisercustomruu.
and the power button+camera+reset button dont work for me.
i think there's a prob with camera button that's why.
so , now , how do i flash the kernel ?
Please help !!
i cant get into bootloader .
is it the camera button then ?
tell me ?
No, you don't get it man! Stop beeing a noob and learn to follow simple guides! You need to copy KAISIMG and KAIDSIAG (make sure to unpack ) to your memory card. After that you can flash with "Power + Camera + Reset". Is this so hard to Google and find what you need? Also, to make sure you won't make any more mistakes, check if you have HardSPL installed and apply all updates from kernel you used. I recommend you this kernel.

Do you have HardSPL? And remember to keep Camera button fully pressed, not just in half.
It all started after the HardSPL

camera button is fully pressed according to me.
And why doesnt it accept my sim card ?

What do you mean it doesn't accept your SIM card? Some screenshots? Anyway, if Camera button doesn't work for you, then you're stuck with this kernel forever . Which one did you flash? I'll give you proper update for it.

Can you share what was wrong with the sim? (for future"generations" with the same problem)
2.6.32.9 [email protected] #285....
and i think there should not be any problem with the sim cards.....
i dropped my phone by mistake it hit the ground with a THUD !!
i think the sim problem was this thing
and can i use this update for my kernel ?
No. Rather, it will not work. You do not have a scoot's kernel... Maybe someone else remember your kernel signature and give you update.

Man, you just proved that you're a huge noob. You flashed a kernel with RUU and you don't even remember which one was that. LOL . Looks like you're out of WiFi forever now . I've never seen such kernel anywhere...
TheMadxtremist, If I were you I'd tried to find the reason why camera button not working. You wrote that you dropped phone, so probably this is some hardware failure(flex tape, switch, something else). If you have any experience try to disassemble phone and fix this or find someone who can do it for you. Because even if someone will give you update your phone will be unstable with this kernel.

use SEUS/pcc
If you are installing the rom using custom kernel, then the rom will not install even if you have latest firmware/baseband.
If you dont have latest baseband, Then put the baseband file you have downloaded to /flashtool/firmwares folder renaming the file .zip to .ftf , then flashtool will sure find the file.
have you tried wiping your device before installing rom.
it also might be the fact that the repairman that fixed your phone might have swaped the motherboard you have for a different one that might have an old baseband or something...
hope it helped
i am using stock kernel ...and i tried the .tft and .zip method but still no use..it found a x8 shakira file i used last time trying to revivve my dead w8 ...can i use that ? it says 2.1.1 A or something , pcc says my phone is up to date
haha i dont think thats possible
Sony Ericsson W8/X8 E16i/E15i Baseband 015 (Flashtool image)
Sony Ericsson W8/X8 E16a/E15a Baseband 015 (Flashtool image)
Sony Ericsson W8/X8 E16i/a E15i/a Android 2.1.1.C.0.0 Stock ROM (Flashtool image)*
*This is NOT a "Walkman" system image but the normal "X8" version!
Files mirrored on my minus account.
If you're on a older Baseband than 015 then you need to flash the baseband through Flashtool.
Edit: And do NOT flash the WRONG baseband ... if you, for example, flash the "i" firmware into a phone that requires "a" you will not be able to connect to the GSM/3G network unless you flash the correct one. Think trice before getting click happy.

Btw why dont u just exchange ur phone with x8 it's safer to modify.. x8 is cheaper. Sell ur w8 n buy x8.
One more how much the repair cost?

LOL, the last sentence was supposed to be funny, nothing more, nothing less.
Anyway. Yes, it is safe to flash the baseband. This doesn't require boot loader unlocking as it's just the baseband (read: the genuine SEMC kernel and GSM radio software). The only mistake you could do here is that you flash the wrong one ("i" instead of "a" or the other way round).
IF something goes wrong here the worst case would be that the phone shows you the "Phone --- /!\ --- PC" picture on the screen meaning it's in download mode (same as Flash-Mode, though this is at a higher level of device intialization) as the firmware has a problem.

You need to partition AND format the SD card in CWM ...
(Edited for easier understanding)
i.e. let us assume you have a 4GB mSD ...
Create a 512MB or 1024MB partition for Apps to mSD storage
Partition the rest of the free space (either ~3.5GB or 3GB)
Format the 512MB/1024MB Partition meant for Apps->mSD in ext3 or ext4 (if applicable)
Format the second 3.5GB/3GB Partition in FAT32
Reboot ... OR ...
Turn off the phone and take out the mSD.
Put it into a card reader and copy the data back on your PC.
Put the card back into the phone, attach the back cover
Turn on your phone.
EDIT 2: Also, link2sd isn't required ... GingerDX and almost every other custom ROM already comes with "app2sd" by default ... you can set the default storage location in the CyangenMod Settings (Auto / Phone / SD) and you can move a app to the SD in the "Manage Applications" settings (tap on the application in the listing, select "Move to SD"). Be warned that apps having Widgets and apps that load during boot WILL break if you move them to the SD!

[Q] Bootloop after Kernel Flasher use -_-

Hey everyone, after a year of not caring about any mods or hacks for my galaxy s I thought that I should get one problem out of this world.
I am talking about the constantly flashing led buttons...so I stumbled upon BLN control which needed a special kernel, so I downloaded the promoted Kernel Flasher and the .tar file of the manual site of BLN (the site i was linked to via my mobilephone when opening BLN).
That tar file was called something with odin in it (not the "update" version). I used odin back in the days I remember...anyways, while in kernel flasher i inserted that tar file...and the kernel was installed, auto-reboot and since then it restarts on loops. Loads the desktop, checks for sd cards...you can scroll around a bit...then after 8 seconds it gets black and restarts.
I am really desperate here, because my exams are coming up and due to my carelessness I have this nasty problem to solve on top of that. Arghh...
There are some appz with important information in it (like notes), a clear swipe would be the absolute last resort here.
Can I recover my old kernel (didn't backup my old one), or replace/update with a new, working one? Through the recovery menue?
If you'd be so kind to step by step explain how it should be done? and I will cease any modding, hacking after this one. -_-
It is a rooted 2.3.3 Gingerbread kernel, as far as i can remember.
Can you go to download mode ? if so flash the .tar file as pda in odin. MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT KERNEL FOR YOUR DEVICE.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App. i helped? hit the thanks button. Thanks
Thanks for the tip.
This morning I played around with this bootlooping phenomenon a bit and found out, that when I immediately close any wlan or phone signal my phone works normal...just that I cannot phone anyone, or be phoned, or surf the net.
I manually did a backup of all my important files now, phew.
When using backup programs my phone resets immediately too.
Ok, long story short, I got my firmware, kernel info now, so you might be able to tell me which kernel, firmware would be appropriate for me (didn't update for a year now, so I am not on top of the news).
Kernel/file that screwed up my phone:
i9000_jvh_backlightNotification_v3.0_odin.tar
My actual Kernel Version:
2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #51
Buildnumber:
Gingerbread.XWJVB
I am able to enter the download mode, but which . tar-file should I use in your opinion? What's a good one today?
Ah, I see the light, maybe I once again will be able to phone again.

do you want to use a Samsung stock kernel or do you wanna give a try to Cyanogenmod stable or something like that?
Last time I saw samfirmware sites I saw that 2.3.6 was avaible for Europe...
Well... that's your choice!!!
Will I be able to keep the functionality of BLN, that keeps those led-buttons at the bottom turned off?
With a Samsung Stock-Kernel you will loose the BLN-Feature. You can try flashing another Kernel which has implemented this feature too. I used the SemaphoreKernel which has this feature. (works on all GB-Roms)
If you try Cyanogenmod you will loose BLN too. But Cm has a feature called "LED-Notification" which does the same as BLN does.
So, I downloaded update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS-signed.zip should I go on with this manual? http: //jjpda.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-install-cyanogenmod-71-on-i9000.html ?
Or do I have to go back from a root to apply this new one?
Which program do I use on PC, and which one on my phone again? :O
Search in Cyanogenmod wiki for i9000,you will find all the steps to follow..
You need 1st TO root the phone, than install ROM manager, install CWM, place CM7 zip on internal SD, remove SIM And ext. SD,reboot into recovery, wipe data, cache and dalvik, flash CM7 zip and reboot.
Don't forget:
-fully charge your phone before starting
-read CM7 wiki page
Hope this might help you.

Well, I did everything the wiki told me to do and here i am with a new rom.
But now my SIM-CARD isn't recognized anymore. I accidently forgot what bedo told me in his last post, and left that card inside while flashing. My bad, i guess.
But what can I do now? I re-flashed, wiped already, with no success, my sim card is still absent in cyanmod. :\

Can you post a screenshot about info of your phone with CM7?
(long press power button and select Screenshot when you are in the info menu )
Here some info for your amusement. Have fun!
Supposed we get to a solution, so I can use my phone for communication purposes again, I wanted to format the internal sd memory of my phone.
Can I just format it, then just leave the flash files on it, to reflash again?
How does that work?
Also, I flashed that googleappz package rom too after the cynomod flash, as I was supposed to by wiki manual.
But I cannot find google maps, android market etc.
I wonder if there is any connection to my initial sim card problem.
But first things first I guess...wanna do some calls :\
Thanks so far for all the good souls trying to help me!
try to flash cm7 radio .
What is the difference exactly? Includes a radio option?
Does it also have the option to turn off the led sensor buttons?
Has it an option to do phone calls too?
PS: I cannot seem to find any cyanmod radio file...hmm

O_O OMG!
Seems no SIM card detected....
Very very strange...
Like the fact that you flash GApps and you can't see market...
Did you wipe cache and Dalvik cache?
+ try this:
"Settings -> Location&Security -> Set up SIM card lock -> Lock SIM card (uncheck)"
I found that in some cases might help.

Take a look here and try with JVK if it works...
I wiped everything possible in recovery mode, flashed that ominous JVC rom, then googleappz. At least now I can shop in the android market. But the sim card still is in the land beyond imagination.
Has my sim card been...bricked?
Which other flash files do you suggest me to try out now? Or should I get me another sim card from the store?
Everything's solved! And the solution was too easy to believe...
Checked the sim card slot more deeply and found out that the sim card wasn't placed in correctly. I seem to have taken it out through the flashing process and in all the "commotion" quickly put it in wrong. Sorry for the big fuzz, everyone.
At least now I got some training with flashing.
So, should I reflash the first cyanmod again?
no you don't need to reflash the rom, cause you already flashed twice plus wiped all possible options...!
I just didn't want to ask you to check if the SIM card was insert properly,
but that would solve your issue faster...!
Enjoy CM7!
Well, I had some time to try out the performance and stability of this mod.
Games definitely are running with a some lag (also reaction time of the sensor to control your game, makes them unplayable).
I tried to uncheck the Cyanmod setting option "Dithering" and "JIT"..also put the cpu settings to "performance".
To be sure I formatted internal SD and external SD.
My phone had some problems finding my external SD, but some guy on the net told to go to Cyanmod settings, applications, use internal memory...and now I use my external SD for everything I guess?
Maybe this is because everything is in slowmo?
Maybe the firstly flashed mod was more...stable?
So, my question would be how to use my internal sd card, maybe it gets faster then?

What about changing to kernel infinity?
