[Q] Downgrade Android OS? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

I have the Motorola Droid currently running the latest version of Froyo and I am really interested in rooting it. But, unfortunately I have the latest Froyo and I can't root that. Does anybody know how/if I could downgrade the software to the original Froyo release os even 2.1? I have a Mac running Parallels so I'll take PC or Mac suggestions. Please be specific if you wanna help me. I'm new to all of this. Thanks in advance!

This link will walk you through the process.
Root Droid 1 Regardless of OS version

Just to make things clear, you can use that to root the latest Froyo build. It is what I used to root my device as well.

Thanks! Everything looks great but I can't seem to get my device to show up in RSD Lite. Any suggestions?

CONFUSED N1 Owner

Hello folks,
Well I recently made the switch from iPhone OS to Android , picked up a used Nexus One in pretty good shape, no scratches, like new and what not, the phone is amazing BUT I am having a hard time understanding some stuff (I thought I was getting a stock N1, and it seems it has been loaded w/ custom ROM and is rooted and unlocked. -which not bad in my opinion, but...
I still have some questions, I am trying to update to Froyo 2.2, and im not sure if I will ever get OTA since the phone has been messed around with and if i manually update to 2.2 it will cause trouble.
1) When I boot the phone it shows the "lock" to be opened, so I am assuming it is oem unlocked, the phone has working WiFi tethering (just like in 2.2)
2) also in the menu of the phone there is an app "superuser permission" which thats why assume the phone is also rooted
And finally In the "About phone" I get the following:
firmware 2.1-update1
baseband
32.36.00.28h_4.06.00.12_7
kernel
2.6.34-cyanogenmod
mod version
cyanogenmod-5.0.8-n1-test3
build
epe54b
I have reset the phone to factory settings, but the same info comes up everytime. the phone runs flawless, no lags, overall i love the phone.
And finally if anybody knows please feel free to share, I am trying to open port 80 on the N1 while it is running Wifi tethering and the only way i have found to do this is if the N1 is rooted, correct me if im wrong... i have a rovio that is refusing to connect to the N1s network...
Any positive input will be highly appreciated! thanks!
Your not very confused!
Your phone is unlocked and has root. its running cyanogenmod-5.0.8-n1-test3.
You can install a custom froyo rom without too much of a problem from recovery. Remember to nandroid-backup everything from recovery first.
Get into recovery by holding down the volume down button as you press the power button to power on the phone.
Heres an example of tethering via usb/forwarded port
http://blog.tangorangers.com/2009/02/tetherbot_android_and_slackware_how_to/
you can install 2.2 with no problem but you have to manually do it. you might get a notification for ota's but you won't be able to install them. just install it manually.
Man you guys are awesome! thanks for clearing this up for me.

Yeah man, you're money. For a used phone it is set up in possibly the best way possible for someone new to android and ready for you to throw the new CM6 ROM on there. You even have the proper radio already. You're good to go.
You can install Froyo in various ways. If you want total stock you can follow the instructions on this link and let OTA froyo install itself. If you need root you can download that from HERE
This method requires SDK installed with Fastboot on your computer with mandatory USB Drivers.
Or you can go the very easy way and use ROMs that is allready cooked, ready to flash in recovery right over your old ROM, like the link that is in my signature. It works great for me and is pretty much stock with root and a couple of extras you can delete via ADB if you don't need them..
Just download the Rom, drop it on the root of your SD Card and flash away in Recovery. all done!
What you are running is a test version of Cyanogen which is not the stable version. So it seems the previous owner didn't bother flashing it.

rooting Droid Original

I currently have the original droid and attempted to root it using super one click and it would lock up or stop running at the prompt: get mount path...... any ideas I currently am running version 2.2
You can't use super one click on the over the air build. I would suggest using zRoot, you can get it right off the market. I had the same problem.
Original Moto Droid
I recently got a replacement phone via my insurance... however this one does not have the froyo update. I would like to root my phone... so that I can use the wifi tether... and it seems there are quite a few other things you can do to improve the performance of the phone. I am unexperienced and would like a step-by-step. Oh yeah... to make matters just a little more difficult... (sorry) I do not have usb cable. Is it possible to do these things without that?
Please help!
Do you want Froyo 2.2? Thats an easy over the air update. Cause then you can get Adobe flash and all of that. If not Im sorry I can't help. But if you want 2.2 then you can get Zroot from the android market. It's an easy one click root. After that get rom manager and make a nadroid recovery backup and flash a clockwork. If you need more help with either of them I can find you a link in this forum I bet.

[Q] Updated cdma hero rooting help?

I'm pretty new to this stuff so i went for the easiest and fastest way to root, the universal android root.

Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Software number: 2.32.651.2

That version has been rootable for a long time. There is a method here. Can't link since I'm mobile, but the intro threads should have directions in them; or the Wiki for that matter.
Check them out! They're full of good info.
This solution is reported to work for 2.32.651.2:
One click Root APK for CDMA Hero
Search for super one click. I use it on mine when I want to start fresh. It works on the newest update. But you do need windows sdk installed.
HELP! Im confused..Sprint Hero 2.1update
Ive been looking through these threads for a couple hours now and I cannot seem to find any of them that apply to my phone. I have a different build number and all of that. My phone is running super slow and about to bounce off a wall. I am looking to root but I have no clue what all I need to do with the different ROMS and everything to speed it up. Any ideas everyone?
Sprint Hero
baseband version 2.42.02.10.29
Build number 2.32.651.2 CL282911 release-keys
Software Number 2.32.651.2
Any Ideas would be GREAT!!! Thanks
I am having the same issue. I did get it rooted with SuperOneClickv1.7-shortfuse.zip file. However, I'm not sure where to go from here. This is a lot more complicated than it was to root and upgrade my Moment to Froyo. I'm now working on my husband's HTC Hero CDMA build number is 2.32.651.2, Sprint release Android 2.1-1 update. I want to do a nandroid backup from what I understand (no clue how to do this!) and then flash a 2.2 or even 2.3 custom ROM to the phone after wiping some files? I have this process down on the Moment, but the Hero is completely different and I'm lost.
I have ASTRO file manager installed and under apps after using the SuperOneClick, I do see SuperUser. I was thinking I wanted to update to the CM 6.1 ROM for now, until the newer systems are completely stable and up-to-date... but I have no clue where to go from here as most directions I've found don't apply to this build. Since I'm 6 months pregnant and off of work until after baby gets here, I have most of the day to tinker with it, when not chasing a rowdy 3.5 year old around the house. Just need some guidance.
Attached is the ZIP file for SuperOneClick

You need a custom recovery installed to nand and flash. Rom manager is the easiest way to install recovery. Once you have that, backup, wipe data, cache, and dalvik, install rom zip just like on the moment. Also to get to recovery, hold down home then power.

I'll try that this evening when my husband comes home with his cell. I have a recovery file on the SD that I put there via Windows (recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3). Is this a good one to use? I'll download ROM manager onto the phone this evening and go from there. Or, if updating to CM 6.1 should I just flash that with the ROM manager?

That's an older version. You can flash that way. I prefer to go into recovery to flash. Better luck that way for me. At least you don't have to run the updater to have factory to flash like the moment. You do need to nand restore to a sense rom to update profile and PRL though, and then nand back to CM.
CM has a great guide on their wiki... http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_(CDMA):_Full_Update_Guide

lol you dont need to be on 1.6... it just the guides helps you downgrade if you are on 1.6.. if you are on 1.1 or whatever than all you need to do is upgrade to 1.5

[Q] Simple steps to root Motorola A853 on 2.2.1

Hello all,
I have searched high and low on this and many other forums to just find a simple method that actually works to root my Motorola Milestone A853.
Its running the stock rom fully updated to the last update which is Froyo 2.2.1.
All I need to do is root not install custom roms or anything else. I just want the phone rooted so I can overclock it and remove the bloatware too.
Thanks for all your help in advance and I really hope somebody has a simple step by step method. I did not want to try downgrading it 2.1 and then running vulnerable or other such methods. I just want to root it and tinker a little bit.
You want Universal Androot.
Google it.
