Is there a twitter client that syncs with desktop? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for a good client that can sync with a desktop (Windows) app too. I am currently using echofon on Firefox and the official Twitter Android client. I like them both but it's annoying when I read a mention on echfon and yet my phone still notifies me about it until I clear it. Also, when I get home my home echofon has hundreds of unread tweets when I actually read them all at work or on my phone.
Can Tweetdeck do this?

Android 2.0 Email vs K-9

I'm about to have a G1 soon. Just would like to know, how does the built-in email app in 2.0 compares to K-9...? Which one is better in your opinions?
Thanks in advance.
I use Gmail for my personal use as it pushes the email out as soon as it arrives.
I use K-9 Mail for my work email account - there is no push - K-9 Mail can be set to check the mail at different intervals.
They both are free and they both have a few different features.
My advice - use them both for awhile and then get rid of whatever one you like the least.
Unless you're using a half-complete Eclair rom, you won't be getting 2.0 email until HTC updates their drivers.
But if you're looking for push email, Seven is a good one. It's in beta, so you have to register (but it's automatic, no waiting), but the client isn't that bad. It pushes through their servers like Google does for Gmail, and it also works for other email services like Hotmail, Yahoo, Aol, etc.
K-9 does do Push. If you connect to an IMAP server, K-9 uses the IMAP IDLE command to quietly wait for mail notification. I get notified on my phone as fast as running Thunderbird on my PC.

Thunderbird isn't push
But the OP was wondering about the Android 2.0 E-mail app if I am not mistaken, not the Gmail app.
Yep. It's my understanding that in 2.0 the Gmail app has been integrated into the Email app, correct?
I'm getting a G1, probably will install Cyan on it. But I don't like 2 email apps. So I wonder if there's a compelling reason to use a half-baked 2.0 on it.
Thanks to all.

I guess it depends on your definition of push.
Most people think of Push email as Instant notification. Thunderbird connected to an IMAP server provides instant notification by using the IMAP IDLE command. This does require a permanent connection to the IMAP server.
Find out more about Thunderbird and IMAP here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP
And this paper compares various methods of "Push" notifications: http://www.isode.com/whitepapers/imap-idle.html
K-9 Supports IMAP IDLE and so gives instant notification of new mail.
(I'm not the developer, just a fan)

I wasn't aware Thunderbird did that, I don't use it as such, not really a big fan of it. I point all my personal domains e-mail to Gmail
edit: I also tried k-9 for another one of my accounts. Didn't like it that much. The interface was mostly annoying to me.
My phone was out of storage so anytime I wanted to install a new program, I had to uninstall an old one. I installed Diskusage to see what was causing it and K9 mail was taking 95MB. I deleted all messages from the trash and inbox folder and it was the same. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it is now normal. Any ideas why K9 mail was taking so much storage?

[Q] Facebook notifications

I have everything in my sync and also configured in my facebook settings to receive the notifications....But so far, I just receive one time...Is set to sync every 30min...But it worked one time only....
I know that is a know issue, I just would like to know if someone know how to fix that...
I wanted to receive notifications when i have messages, comments and new requests....
I just configured everything in the facebook settings on my phone...is still not working....
You did know you can activate your phone through Facebook to receive sms notifications.
Sign into Facebook>Account>Account Settings>Mobile Tab
See if that will do what you want. Facebook sync is meh at best.
Added: "Standard messaging rates apply"
Facebook notification is badly broken across all android phones and there's no excuse for it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
yeah i wish we had the iphones facebook notifications..the only good thing about the iphone lol
So still no fix for this? My notifications worked before the most recent Facebook app update. Way to go, Facebook.
If you use Hotmail for facebook, Just sync it via EAS in
Settings > Accounts and sync > Add account > Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
You will get notifications via hotmail instantly.

Guys, I know this is an old thread but I want to see if someone can confirm that notifications work with this facebook apk.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200174
It is a blacked out version which I honestly think is better without notifications, but I started getting them after installing. So if anyone could confirm it works for them, great! If not, I got lucky and at least we have a cooler looking version of facebook.

[Q] Opera Mini and Twitter

Hi,
Wondering for those who use Opera Mini were you able to log in and sync to your bookmarks (and use other settings)? After accepting terms I can't find a way to login.
Also, anyone have any success in using Twitter client? Have been able to login but app seems to crash periodically. Better suggestion? Like Twitter for push notifications.
Thanks,
Mike
mjoshea,
I have the same problem with twitter, after a few seconds running it crashed and went back to desktop. Tweetdeck is my twitter app of choice. I've even told one of the root devs about it, and he though it was weird.
I've never synced bookmarks with opera, so I can't help with that.

GMAIL can now handle your YAHOO and OUTLOOK accounts!

GMAIL can now handle send and receive for both your YAHOO and OUTLOOK accounts. Why does this matter?
Well because Android Wear REALLY REALLY likes Gmail and REALLY REALLY hates Yahoo and Outlook. The benefits of using Gmail:
1) You will receive individual notifications for every email received.
2) You can USE voice to respond to each email from the watch.
I highly recommend making the switch and having Gmail handle everything. If you still want to maintain other email clients on your phone simply block them from notifications in your Android Wear app. This is now a much cleaner email solution.
Oh yes.. My wife uses hotmail and her Outlook app screws up most of the time, unable to download mails. I uninstalled it and added her account in the new Gmail. Very neat indeed.

Cool. Yes, super handy for syncing with Android Wear watches.

Huawei email client

On trying to configure the built-in email client, the gmail setup errors with "unable to establish connection with server".
I have made contact with Huawei on the matter, and the response was that I had to install Gmail official app. That made me wonder what Huawei is doing with their email app. They have issued the app with a separate setup for gmail account connection, but it does not seem to work. And they recommend using a different app.
Do they not care to maintain their own app? And if so, this being their general attitude to problem solving is disappointing. And leaves an impression of a half-hearted effort in development.
Anybody having found a way to work around the issue?
I find using anything other than the Gmail app to manage my gmail a pain in the ass - not sure why you would want to use Huawei's app for Gmail. The Gmail app is way faster and better to navigate. In saying that, I do have 3 gmail addresses (2 google apps and the other Gmail) so I don't ever need a 3rd party email client.

I agree to using Gmail app, and its benefits. It just struck me that they have this issue and don't address it at all. They could at least have removed the option, as long as it is not working.

Hi guys, I just started using Huawei P10 a few days for work. I setup the email using huawei native client and I like it. But since last night, I notice I didn't received any email. I tried to send email to myself but the email didn't go through. I'm curious and check my email using my laptop. Then I saw few email came in.
Then I'm wondering what's happening here? I press sync few time but came out "Couldn't open connection to server".
I tried removing the email and perform setup again... didn't work either.
Has anyone got the solution why this happens?
I'm not saying the gmail apps is not good, but I prefer in that way. Almost like using outlook.
I have a few gmail/msn address, and they all worked well with native Huawei mail client. no problem.
I am using a BlackBerry z30 now, and I loved the blackberry Hub, is that something similar in android? and free is better, or one time purchase is ok,
