[Q] Radio Question - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
In my office my Nexus One shows full bars. However, it is nearly impossible for me to make a call or be able to transfer data. If I leave my office and go out onto the street, if I reconnect to the Network, everything works fantastic. When I get back into the office, I can't make calls or transfer data. But, I am showing full bars.
Any ideas ?
I am running Enomther's latest..
Thanks
J

You're not putting attention to "emergency calls only" message being displayed on your phone. You have full bars, just not your carrier's - so they count only for emergency calls.

Missed Calls

Hi,
I have a Dopod 595. I cannot make calls whenever the phone is synchronizing or downloading email (Push Mail) or even when I have IE running loading pages. I am on Maxis 3G network. The phone has the ā€˜Uā€™ sign. I thought if I am on 3G network, I can still make calls or receive calls when the data line is being used? Currently, if data is being downloaded, incoming calls will become miss calls automatically. At least when I am on EDGE or GPRS, it will disconnect the data line.
Why is this so? Please enlightened me.

Have 4 bars of service, but can't text or call?

This morning when I woke up, I tried sending my girlfriend a text and It pops up with: "Unable to Send Message".
I have full service..
Then I tried to make a call, and it immediately ends the call, and pops up with: " Call Barring Option Enabled"
I did a battery pull and took the sim card out, put it back in, booted up the phone and still nothing. :/
Any help is appreciated.
[EDIT]
Now my messages are sending,
but I'm getting the warning message: "There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in your registered home network."
Back up all data and do a hard rest, sounds like corrupted files.
Could be an Issue with your tower..
Have you driven around yet?
Full signal just means you have a good connection to the tower..
It does not mean there is available lines or bandwidth going out of the tower.
Many people always say, "I got 4 bars and my calls get disconnected" and don't understand that just because you have a good signal doesn't mean as you are jumping from one tower to another that you can get a free line out of that tower.
I'm thinking it might be the tower then. Because at about 7:00 I couldn't call or text. Now it's 10:00 and I can text/call.
Maybe I just need to wait until the end of the day and see if they get everything fixed.. stupid Corr Wireless.

Airave and Hero?

I recently just got my Airave from Sprint (after getting all the fees for it waived ), and I got it all hooked up, and it finished downloading its updates (all blue, non-flash LED's). Now, my sister says she gets full bars, yet I (on CyanogenMOD) don't get full bars... I have -99dBm. When I call though, I DO get the double-beep at the start of the call, which lets me know I am using the Airave. During the call, my signal seems to bump up (denoted by bars... haven't checked the dBm). My question though, is shouldn't I be having better signal in the first place without calling? Isn't the airave broadcasting signal 24/7?
i also got one and on rc0 it shows -75dbm and full bars
I have an airave also at my house. I don't get full bars until I make a phone call. It's been that way since I got the device. As long as you are getting a clear call, that's all that matters.
no bars till on call....
i also have a hero and running rc0 w/ an airave at the house.
no bars until on the call, but i disagree that it doesn't matter until the call....
for incoming calls if i have no bars when the call comes in, the phone doesn't ring and goes straight to voicemail, meaning missed calls.
that was the main point of getting the airave.
any reason why the device doesn't pick up the airave before a call? (i updated the radio base recently, and that showed no improvement)
anybody got any thoughts?
flashed the newest cm6 release and problem solved.

[Q] Poor signal (one bar)

hello, I have a new t mobile htc one I got as gift (never opened). My old phone was an unlocked samsung galaxy nexus using a tmobile prepaid sim. I resized this sim to fit the htc one and everything worked fine( full bars for signal). Problem with this sim is that I could not make wifi calls. So I called tmobile and had them activate the new sim which I got with the htc one (Same prepaid plan, no data). i can now make wifi calls. Problem is once wifi is disconnected I only have 1 bar. If I attempt to make a call all bars raise in full, even if i attempt to check my balance the bars automatically jump from 1 to full and back to 1 bar after i see my balance. Is there a setting i need to change or is this normal? i am worried I may be missing calls like this. (All this happens when the wifi is disabled)
Sorry if the post is confusing, I tried to provide all the details but will be happy to provide anything else if necessary.
Thanks!

This happens with me sometimes as well...if it is in LTE mode, the signal bars are less...1 , sometime 2, and sometimes 4... as soon as i make call, the data connection is OFF for that moment, and the signal bars are full....as soon as the calls end, the data connection is activated.... the bars are less again.... try changing the data connection modes from LTE to 3G only and to 2G....and see what happens

Awesome this helps. Thanks. In my situation I have no data plan setup. No need for any internet on my phone atm. So all I use this phone for is calls and an occasional sms. Will I have a longer battery life if i disable lte and have it on gsm only? Would the call signal drop?

i am not sure, but when you dont use Mobile Data on your HTC one, there is no need to select the LTE mode.... you can select the other option always. and it might save battery as well....."might"
You will definitely save on battery if you switch to 2g if you don't use data at all. Switching to 3g frequency takes more battery even when there's no data connection.
I switched it to gsm only then disabled mobile data. Full bars now. This should work. The next option is wcdma which i dont think tmobile uses.

Signal drop upon placing call - XT1095 on H2O

I recently changed to H2O, which is an AT&T reseller for those who are unfamiliar, and I'm having a very peculiar problem.
When I go to make a call, as soon as I tap the green button to make the call, sometimes my signal drops to 0 bars and I can't make the call. Sometimes this happens repeatedly and it's impossible to call anyone. But sometimes the call will go through after the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th try. However, sometimes it drops to emergency calls only after the call fails, or sometimes it drops to no service.
Additionally, when I go to change the conditional call forwarding under dialer - settings - calls - call forwarding, as soon as I tap call forwarding, the signal bars vanish and I get a call settings error. This happens almost all of the time. And again, sometimes it will drop to emergency calls only, or a several times I've had it drop to no service.
When I give up trying to make a call or change call forwarding settings, the signal strength will return after a minute or so, which is currently fluxuating around -112 dBm 28 asu, -116 dBm 24 asu, 110 dBm 30 asu. Not sure what any of that means though.
Frequently, incoming calls do not reach my phone. Often I'll get a text message asking me why I'm not answering my phone, but it never rang. There's no indication that my phone was out of service as there is always at least one bar.
I can send text messages with no problem at all. My data also works just fine. In fact, one of my friends gave up calling my phone number and instead calls me on WhatsApp because that's the only way he can get a hold of me. He would call my number, have it fail, and then immediately call me on WhatsApp and that goes through because my data doesn't usually have any issues.
I've tried changing APN settings according to different information I got from H2O. I've tried changing the preferred network type to 3G and 2G. Changing to 2G seems to help my ability to make calls, or maybe it just seemed that way. I've contacted H2O numerous times about it. They opened multiple tickets on it and finally said that there's no problem on their end getting service on that sim card. I sorta verified this because the sim card doesn't display this problem in my 1st gen Moto X, an XT1053.
Two other people in my house are on the AT&T network, one on Cricket with a Galaxy S6 (G920AZ), and one on H2O with a Galaxy S3 (T999) and they never have any issues here at home or elsewhere.
My phone is an XT1095 pure edition. I run stock 6.0, 24.11.18.victara_tmo.tmo.en.US, kernel 3.4.42-g389e46b, rooted, TWRP, with no apps that modify call behavior except Google Voice which is set to never use GV to make calls. This phone worked flawlessly on several different T-Mobile resellers. I'm about to switch back to another T-Mobile reseller but I thought I'd post here about this strange issue first because I don't want to always be limited to the T-Mobile network.
Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.
