Leaked Roms Stopped... is Official on the way ? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well after some busy days where are always leaked a new fw, in the last days that stopped.
It's an indicator that the official rom should be on Kies at any moment ?
What's the leakers oppinion ?
Until now several one appeared, and in my point of view there are a couple questions:
- Radio is still mono
- Lag is terrible! In other part of the forum someone had answered me that Galaxy Tab still continues using RFS filesystem, so i think it will not change
- Battery drain is awesome...last two days battery didn't survive from 8AM to 11PM ... ouch
- TwLauncher in JPK still in sometimes stopps.
When the official froyo? What will change ?

The official release should be really close to JPK, so don't expect miracles

Ask Samsung or ask God.
We are waiting, too.

Let me look in my crystal ball.... OH NOES! The world will end in 2012!!!!! ..... nothing on froyo for sgs....

i must admit, if this were happening....
this is my biggest regret to buy this phone....i should choose another one

People over at the Captivate forums are reporting pretty good GPS reception with the leaked Froyo they got today. Maybe there's something to it after all.

That's what happens all the time - at first everybody are so excited they get a lock in 10-15 seconds, when they start using it they realize it's still a piece of worthless junk - you'll see lots who already realized it in that forum.
I'll bet the GPS just can't be fixed, it's a hardware problem.

facepalm. WHY no one reads before posting?

Hah if you're gonna buy a phone based on GPS you've already lost the battle. Get a real gps device already! They're dirt cheap and will get much better reception than a cell phone. I don't get people buying a cell phone based on GPS... call quality sure, but GPS?! Hahah stoooopid!

I have been using JPK for days already and the GPS works fine. Only battery drain is a bit high, last night after some quite intensive usage my battery died on me after 5 hours :O. This was with eBuddy, latitude, internet radio for about an half hour and some internet browsing. I don't know if I really asked too much of the battery but I think the Eclair firmwares are indeed better in battery life.

eBuddy is a battery murder! Try Trillian.
If i'm at work
- 8 Hours Trillian
- Checking Mails
- Short Calls
- Little bit Surfing

Thanks for the advice, I shall give it a try . I already noticed that eBuddy can indeed be quite a battery eater indeed, but not that bad as last night.

Currently about 90% of the variants have been given an official JM -level release.
This was the goal so far.
Froyos will start popping like mushrooms at rain.

yup i know there is a thread on radio but mine will focus on GPS performance bro
IMO 08 is the best for GPS.
I do agree : 1.25.00.08 for me too
.08 is certainly the fastest cold start. but i dont know if that makes it the best. i do use it tho.

seems most accurate too (South UK)
how about anyone from asia?or even singapore?
i'm on 07 and i get a fix wthin 5-7 seconds with gpscycle 2
although at times gpscycle fails to get a fix, but that can be dealt with by soft resetting the fone....i think its some s/w problem....seems like the s/w cant get to open the com port
so far i have test .05,.07 and.08....05 seems the most accurate but fixing takes up to 1min sometime longer...

to be honest, if you use your phone more than a couple of times a day (like most people), then the battery is ****e no matter which radio! oooo and extra 10 mins!
i'm getting the 3000 mAh battery when its out at the end of the month...
over 3x the capacity

I have the 85,000 mAh battery, over 85* the capacity Okay well really I have it plugged into my cigar lighter
On a serious note tho', You say your GPS is no problem and the battery life is ****e, mine has reasonable battery life (although if I'm using GPS it's either plugged into the car or I'm using GPS Cycle Computer which turns off the backlight) and GPS isn't anything like as good as the Artemis?
This device seems much more variable in quality than my previous O2/HTC ones, even the camera quality varies - weeiiirrdd
Kim
yeh, it depends on if you have a original HTC, a T-Mobile... etc etc...
i think a lot depends on ROMs/Radios as well.
Different radios work better/worse for differing regions and providors.....I am using 25.07 (and have tried a few!) as its best for Scotland.....would suggest that you follow what your regional collegues are using as a starting point, and then flash and change (very easy!!) for comparison
Of course then post back to share your results
the latest radio b14 from dutty is amazing!!!i get a fix from cold start in less than 15sec!!!Anyone else have good things to say about tis radio??
My out-of-the-box radio version is 1.02.25.19.
Is this any good? I'm getting fast fixes but lag after 5mins of use (feels like a memory problem with TT7 version 7.450 b9030). Igo8 is just always off by 20M (version 5400).

Terrible battery life

I've searched through these forums/threads to try and find out how to improve battery life when using Android from SD card. Even when the screen is off for almost the whole time, my battery will only last about 6 hours. Contrast this with WM6.1 when my battery lasts 4 days.
I have turned off data. (I've also read in places to turn off "background" data, but I'm not sure how to do that? I've not seen an option to do that anywhere - I'm using Incubus froyo)
What is draining the battery, and how do I get it to last longer?
you know if your going to post a thread complaining about something the least you could do is tell us anything about the set up your running
what nbh are you using?
what build are you using?
are you using a vogue, kaiser, or polaris?
also a forum search for this question would probably go a long way too

I did not mean to sound like I was complaining...I'm just searching for solutions to this issue. As I stated previously, I have searched through the forums and have tried to do some of the things suggested to increase battery life, but it hasn't helped much.
I have a Vogue, running off SD card. I'm using the latest haret and Incubus Froyo (v. 16 I think).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I don't use my phone all that much, and I don't have data so that adds up to long battery life. When the phone was new I could go almost a week without charging!
I can agree to that, I never use my vogue... it's only use to me is so family can call me locally (moved and never changed the number on it), with WM6.1 and 6.5 I could go 4-5 days before it needed to be plugged in. When I first flashed donut I'd get 8 hours with data on, and could go 24 hours with it off, now with froyo it dosn't matter what's on or off 8-10 hours is it... tho I will say i'm out of date on kernel and image (using inc's v11, and kernel from july since that's the last one i've seen supporting 320x480)

Too bad you require the higher res because the latest nbh and rls15 has greatly improved battery life. I get at least what your getting in terms of battery time, however, I have google background data to sync my email, calendar and contacts and I use it during the day to check my RSS feeds, write some emails, make some phone calls, and play some board games.

[Q] New Captivate; update worth it?

I Just recieved my new captivate (sent the other one in for warranty issues) in the mail, and am wondering if it's worth it to upgrade this 100% stock captivate to JH7, or if I should wait for 2.2?
Another suggestion
Upgrade to the Cognition ROM...you get JH7 with a lot of other goodies... http://cognition.theidiotshideout.net/phpmyfaq/index.php?action=show&cat=1
The GPS issue appears to have been resolved with this ROM, and the whole phone seems quite a bit snappier.

Major thanks.
+1 for the Cognition ROM... I have had my device 2 days now and the first thing I did on night #1 was blow away all that ATT and Samsung [email protected] and load Cog.... this ROM rocks... super fast for me. No telling when 2.2 will be baked enough on our devices for me to use it as my daily driver.... weeks maybe....
Flashed Cognition 2.1; Works wonderfully, sans GPS... This phone is turning out to be a real debbie downer in that department.
My GPS has been somewhat OK.... for the 3 times I used it, it was pretty darn close. It drifted a little when driving highway speeds, but crap, close enough for me most times. I think my phone is a late build... I waited for a while to pick one up due to the glass shortage that occurred earlier... curious, can we tell when our units left the factory, and if so, I wonder if they are coming out with different GPS chips on them?
One last thought - did you do a batt pull once your new ROM was in place? Just shooting off ideas... I hope it starts working better for you... I am really liking this phone compared to my Bold 9000.

I've never gotten a lock with either of my Captivates; What do you mean by a battery pull? Just lug the battery out of the phone while it's running and put it back in? I'm curious as to how that would be beneficial to GPS. (I've done a reset, but that's about it)

Yes, exactly. Pull the battery out, wait for a minute, put it back in and reboot. In many cases, this has (for me) fixed weird little issues after ROM updates etc. I have no evidence that this would affect the GPS in your case, but I thought I'd mention any tips/methods that have helped me in the past.
Yeah a battery pull usually solves a lot of issues when upgrading roms...I've had t so that twice.

The glgps daemon, jupiter.xml, and you! (How to make the GPS behave better)

Hi Vibrant owners!
I made a post over in the Captivate forum about how we can configure the GLGPS daemon in our phones (this is used to control the GPS behavior)
Attached are some update.zips with a new glgps daemon pulled from the Nexus S, secgps.conf and a jupiter.xml configuration inside. The GPS chipset is common among all SGS models, so this should work for you. Please try it, feedback is appreciated!
Sweet!

I know at least one model of Vibrant does (Bell), not sure about the others (CDMA does not I believe)
With the vibrant froyo leaks, we now use gpsd and jupiter.xml Samsung decided to make it the same across the board. At least for the i9k, cap and vib. Not sure aboit the epic and fascinate though

Wow. Your like saying that people doesn't have to fix their gps if yours has been already fixed.
im saying if you've upgraded to a new rom like most here then it should have been fixed. what kind of fix are you expecting a 100/100 Sat lock the instant you turn on the GPS app?

I'm not expecting that, we all just want it to be usable like having a better accuracy.
sorry it's getting late and my brain is not fully functional ^_^ though it is sorta confusing how the same hardware can produce different results with the newer 2.2 roms.
It's not the same though.

It seems the newer antenna did fix it - the older design is unreliable so "identical" hardware can have different GPS performance depending on how much the connection has worked loose.

if you compare to HTC model like HD2, you will see that vibrant is very slow altough gps is fixed...I once use htc hd2 with MDJ mod for android GPS is real fast, never more than one minutes from start ( case compared when u totally delete gps data) I don't know how HTC did it...just for your guy to concern
My GPS has never worked and I've tried every ROM and every fix. Sure I can get a lock on 8 of 12 satellites, and I can easily get 10 foot accuracy. As soon as I try to use Navigation, it sucks. It'll jump around by a few feet here and there, and that's enough to totally throw off the navigation. All of a sudden it thinks I'm the wrong street and its telling me to turn around.
im sorry guys, that sucks. mine has been fine for a while now. and i navigate quite a bit as I am new to Cali. Initially it truly pissed me off when I was on 2.1, telling me i'm staying on the highway when i infact took the off ramp etc... lol. I'd get a replacement.
Can anyone ever say the word GPS without sending everyone into a pissing frenzy?
BACK ON TOPIC:
OP which one do you recommend starting out on for us Vibrant owners?
I highly.. very highly recommend Sombionix' Nero 3. I've used a lot of roms and this one is very very fast. And I usually refrain from saying "fast" because most phones are initially fast when new roms are installed but this one definitely deserves it even after massive app installs and use.
I tryed out the google version and it killed my GPS it sees 12 birds but won't connect to any.
Which do I install? I have a Tmobile Vibrant. You have 3 files listed. Thanks.

Should I get LG O2X?

Hello!
I'm gonna buy a new phone, but idk when. I think I'm gonna buy the LG O2X, though after reading all the problems with it, I'm not sure.
I have heard troubles like:
Shuts down and reboot randomly.
Shows wrong battery percent left.
WiFi stops to work when you turn it on after sleep.
I also heard about 2 people who had their LG out in the sun, when it was like 20-25 degrees and it started to reboot every 2 minute.
If the phone didn't have all these problems, I would definitely get it. But that's apparently not the case.
Damn, this is driving me crazy, I can't decide whether I should get it or not. Please help me.
All the things you've listed are software, the first CM7 nightly is currently building. That said I've not had mine's been mostly fine. No wifi issues, only had odd battery behavior when trying new kernels. Have had a couple of overnight reboots, but not for about 5 days.

I know that the problems I listed is problems with the SW, and can be solved. But the problem about their phone did reboots every 2 minute when they had it outside in the sun. Is the problem I most worry about, since it doesn't sounds like problems with the SW.
I'm not gonna change ROM or something. Since I don't wanna loose my warranty.
And LG doesn't seems to solve problems that quickly, correct me if I'm wrong.

Sounds good. I guess you're right about exchanging. But I wanna save myself the trouble.

Alright, that's good. But having to change ROM, to get a good working phone doesn't seems right.
How is the phone at browsing? I've heard that the text isn't best on O2X.

correct
you can go stock and all is fine.- do not read all those reviews..about rebootings, lags..
I had stock for couple of days and it was very smooth, all fine, no lags, no reboots, then MoDaCo and even this was great.

I also heard about 2 people who had their LG out in the sun, when it was like 20-25 degrees and it started to reboot every 2 minute.

Sounds like your friends' phones could have errant processes running in the background and the extra heat from the sun could have pushed the phones into instability.
Ask them to install "Watchdog Task Manager Lite" to monitor the processes running on their phones. If they can track down which app processes are the culprits, they should try to delete or modify the app settings to quieten down their errant behaviours. This should help with the "every 2 mins in sun reboot" issue.

Sounds very good. Well, I've mostly read the problems on forums.

I read about this problem in a forum. But thanks for the "Watchdog Task Manager Lite" tip, I guess it could be handy when I get a android phone. If it will be LG O2X, we'll see.
If you are a non-hacker type person, and just want to use the phone straight out of the box, it might be prudent to avoid most, if not all, of the dual-core phones for now. I think the designers and programmers are still trying to iron out the kinks with the new dual-core phones. IMHO, a fast single-core Android phone might probably be a more fuss-free phone straight out of the box than dual-cores currently.

Well, I don't change phone that often, so I wanna have future proof phone that isn't too expensive. And I believe this is that phone.
I'm pretty sure I can root it and change rom. But... I'm too afraid I might mess it up.
In forums like these you will mostly read about the issues that some are having, because people tend to seek out these forums when they disover isues - the wast majority may not have any issues and dont post in forums like these. So regardless of which device you get, you will allways find alot of forum posts dealing with whatever bugs some users are facing. The number of issues and error posts for the LG isnt really that big, nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing you wont see just as many or more for ANY other device out there - single core or dual core.
Basically dont get scared off by these but only use it as a guide to perhaps seek for specific bugs which you would not be able to live with untill they get fixed by the manufacturer.
I have 2 LG optimus - one for myself and one for my teenager son
Both bought on the same day 6 weeks ago.
Mine has run completely stable and "errorfree" since day one - not a single random shutdown or lockup bsod - no issues with wifi, 3g or anything - has worked with every single app I tried, no batterydrain (easily get 2 days worth) etc. etc.
They are running completely stock with the only change being a different laucher (GO launcher) to solve the micro stutter in swyping between homescreens which the standard LG launcher has (just a very minor software issue).
The only issues I have left are 2 known issues - which for certain will be solved by some new LG update. One is the lag that happens while installing a new app from market - the other is the memory management which isnt completely optimised causing free memory to sometimes run a litle lower than wanted.
If you arent unlucky and get hit by the random shutdowns and bsod that some users are facing - then you do get a very nice future proof phone that isnt too expensive, and does most things pretty good allready - and will only get better as updates arrives
Imho, rooting and new roms arent really needed, allthough a nice possibility for those that like to tinker and tuning their devices as much as possible - but even without doing so, you will get a nice phone.
I'm planning to get one too so I just started to visit O2X threads. Currently on Motorola Milestone, but I'm sick of it's low RAM. Every new game is force closing. I'll wait for it to get cheaper in my country .

You're probably right. I've read alot of threads. It's so weird, some have many problems with the phone and some have not. I really don't wanna have problems with reboots and wifi.
I'm still not sure if I should get it or not. I don't really see any other future proof alternatives in the same price range. The SGS2 is too expensive.
This is definitely not easy, maybe I should wait and see if they fix all problems. But IDK which phone I should get instead.

I've seen some reviews of SGS2 and it seems laggier than O2X. First I noticed that in Shrek Kart video (I've seen SGS2, than compared to O2X), after that it seemed that SGS2's launcher is laggy too -.-' ... maybe I just watched fake/bad reviews ^^.
Well i had phone for around 2 weeks and have not had any of the reboot issues as for batt draining if u ture of back ground data then this reduces it massivly, the handset is on of the best around. As for LG not doing update to solve problems i think that is unfair they do seem to be listerning with in a few days of me gettting hand set went from 10b to 10d. So i would say that if you want future proof device then this is the one and if you want game then its a no brainer

Okay, I haven't watch any review of that phone. Since it's too expensive.

Alright. I think I'll get the O2X then. Though, I'm not gonna get it before they fixed these problems.
I read in a review that the OS takes about 300 mb ram.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/07/lg-optimus-2x-review/
So I have about 200 mb free for my apps. That doesn't sound much, but maybe it's enough? Well, this is going to be my first smartphone, so I don't really know how much RAM app takes.
