[Q] [QUESTION] Is my firmware still locked to some extent? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Day,
I purchased a network locked I9000 then used the SGS Unlock App in the Market to open my phone to any network provider.
The thing is, I cannot get 3G or HSDPA to work in my preferred network. I placed a prepaid sim from the Network I bought it from and 3G and HSDPA are working as designed.
Is there a possibility that the firmware I am using is still "locked" to some extent in terms of the frequency?
I have the correct APNs for both Network and I tried both sims to my old N97 and they both worked in terms of 3G signal.
BTW, I'm from the Philippines and I bought the phone from Globe Telecoms and my preferred network is Sun Cellular.
Here are the details of my SGS phone:
Model Number: GT-I9000
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1 (already updated it from KIES)
Baseband version: I9000DXJG4
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
[email protected] # 2
Build Number: ECLAIR.DXJG4
Other facts I can see in the settings (might be useful):
Signal Strength: -81 dBm 16 asu
Mobile network type: HSDPA
Service State: In Service
Mobile Network State: Disconnected
I'm thinking of re-flashing my phone to a different firmware but needed your inputs first. What firmware would work for me? Plus: would my phone get locked again to the original network if I re-flash it? Would the lock code change?
Note: here's some basic info about the two networks
Globe Telecoms
GSM 900MHz/1800 MHz
3G W-CDMS (UMTS)
3G Frequency 2100 MHz
Sun Cellular
GSM 1800 MHz
3.5G (HSDPA) 2100 MHz
Hoping someone can really help my dillema. I've been using Sun Cellular for 4 years now and I have no plans of changing networks even though their Customer Service stinks (no one can help me with this!)
Francis
P.S. I tried all the troubleshooting short of re-flashing. Multiple reboots, played around with the APNs, etc etc.
Also, my phone is rooted. Not sure you need that info but just in case

I forgot to add one last thing..
Yeah, I almost forgot. I can use my phone with my preferred network (Sun Cellular), to make & receive call and also SMS. It's the Internet Access that is giving me sleepless nights. I also called my network provider and I do have all the proper access in fact, I was able to surf using the same sim in my N97.

Additional Settings of my Phone (using *#0011#)
UMTS: HOME(CS)
RRC State: IDLE
WCDMA 2100 Band 1
Reg PLMN 515-5, IsPCS?0
FREQ DL: 10638
FREQ UL: 9688

Change rogers radio frequency to 3G

Hello everyone,
I bought a G1 from Rogers in canada, but now I live in germany.
I don't know how it actually works, but I have been unable to get 3G connections here (only GPRS and normal cell phone), using the O2 company. After doing some research I realized that the radio frequencies are different (according to http://www.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=GERMANY, then go to canada to check it out).
Are there any possibilities to change the radio frequencies of UMTS? My phone is rooted.
Thanks a lot!
Dial:
*#*#4636#*#*
Then goto phone info
Scrool down list
Change preffered network to WCDMA only for 3G only
Exit
Edit: O2 doesnt use the same 3G freq as Rogers, so you must stay with EDGE.
if memory serves correctly - o2 and tmobile work on the same frequencies in germany
if this is the case there is nothing you can do as the radio frequency is a hardware thing
Thanks for the reply!
I did that, but after a while it changes back to 'WCDMA preferred'.
I went to the O2 store, and the guy tested the chip with a Palm Pre, and it worked fine.. but with my G1 it didn't, only GPRS.
rogers use different frequencies to most other providers worldwide
rogers, atnt and some south african one use one set for 3G but everyone else uses another
you WILL NOT get 3G on the rogers dream on frequencies not used by rogers

will this work with any phone? Sorry NTT. i have just bought a htc touch 3g but it won't work in the bush. the phone supports HSDPA/WCDMA:
900/2100 MHz and out here we have 850/2100 mhz wcdma.

All I know is that it allows you to force a specific phone freq, im not sure if all HTC phones have test mode which that number brings up. It doesnt allow you to change the freq only force one type. So a quad-band phone can be forced to use 2G only instead of 3G.It doesnt give access to unsupported bands cause thats a hardware thing.
I am discussing this very subject here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15461093&posted=1#post15461093 would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Unable to use 3G on my Nexus One

Hi,
I am using Nexus One in India, and my service provider is MTNL Mumbai. Their network is 3G enabled. I have 3G activated by the service provider too. I have put the settings for my APN, using the settings available here -- dolphin.mumbai.mtnl.net.in/cominfo/docs/general.doc (Sorry, I am not able to post links)
However, try as I might, I have only the "E" icon displayed in the status bar displayed, no 3G. The EDGE network works properly, I am able to surf, but of course, it is horribly slow.
Things I have tried:
- Settings, Mobile networks, uncheck "Use 2G networks only"
- Go to test menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and set the phone mode to "WCDMA only"
- Searched google for people having the same problem
When I set the network mode to "WCDMA only", for some time it shows no network, and then again drops back to "WCDMA Preferred", and shows the "E" icon. My N-1 was bought from Singapore, it original had the EPF21B build on it. Hence, I am assuming that my radio is hardware compatible with my service provider..? MTNL uses European 3G frequencies. Also, the problem is the service itself, since I am able to activate and use 3G properly in my Nokia E51.
Currently, I am running the FRF50 Froyo build - I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted my N1. However, the same problem used to occur on the stock EPF21B build, even when the phone was "virgin".
I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.
If I see correctly, your provider works with 2100 MHz - which would make it compatible with both Nexus versions, so the problem most likely isn't there.
Yes, MTNL Mumbai uses 2100 MHz. Any other ideas or suggestions, please?

[Q] Question for experts

Let me make it simple.
I am from Brazil. I have a Galaxy S I9000 running stock Gingerbread.
I am a TIM user.
How it was:
I could access GPRS signal everywhere in my town.
Information under Settings --> About --> Network = TIM 3G+ 16 (area code) and GPRS
What happened:
I travelled to Amazon Florest. Extremely poor signal and no data connection whatsoever.
And then I got back to my town.
How it is now:
I can only access EDGE signal. Extremely poor data connection. And people saying that they could´t reach me on the phone.
Information under Settings --> About --> Network = TIM 3G+ 19 (not my area code) and EDGE
What I did to try fix it:
Reinstalled the firmware with re-partition ticked.
How is it now:
80% of the time I get EDGE signal.
People can talk to me now on the phone.
Information under Settings --> About --> Network TIM BRASIL (no area code) and EDGE (80% of the time) or GPRS (20% of the time)
What the hell is happening????
I want my phone working as it was before. 100% of the time with 3G connection.
What can I do?
Obs: My phone is set to use Only WCDMA.
Possible ask in the Brazil post on here .
jje
Yeah, but there they use the Brazilian version of Galaxy (I9000B) and mine is the International version. And I use Gingerbread. Brazilian version only got Froyo...
Any particular reason you are setting it to WCDMA only instead of auto?
In my town, as in most towns in Brazil, 3G towers are few.
So the cell is allways looking for the best reception and keep changing from GPRS to EDGE and vice versa.
If I set to WCDMA only, the cell keeps on the GPRS and the conection is way better (at least for me).
No one can help me?
Ok!
I helped myself. And I am no expert.
The problem was that when I traveled to Amazon Florest, my cell kept searching for the best reception. And somehow it automatcally activated all frequencies for WCDMA ranging from 850 to 2100.
And here in my town, TIM only uses 2100 for 3G.
Now I am back to where I was!!!
Thanks for me!

[Q] How to get AT&T 3G, 4G or LTE on Galaxy Note

Please help.
I bought and used a Korean version of Galaxy Note (LTE with DMB) on SKT network in Korea for a while. I liked it so much that I decided to use back home (USA) on my ATT 3G unlimited plan I keep for iPhone 3GS.
With ATT (a new micros sim) card, voice worked fine. But the internet speed is only 44 kbps with 'G' sign on the top notification area. I tried a lot of APN settings, reboots and hours of tech support form both ATT and SKT in Korea. No success so far.
SKT tech support said the phone carries neither country lock nor carrier lock, which seems to be true considering I can use voice on ATT without any problem. They insisted that I need to talk to ATT.
Using 'SGS Secrete Code' I tried to replace LTE B5 band originally set by SKT (?) with other LTE or WCDMA in the 'band selection', it won't allow it. Only 'Automatic' and 'GSM All' are possible to select.
My Phone info:
PDA : E160S.EK25.0152
PHONE : E160S.EK24.1917.ST
MOVINAND : EK25
BUILD : Fri Nov 25 01:58:03 KST 2011
I wonder if the hardware itself has limitation or it can be solved by some kind of setting or software approach. Please help.
My phone from Korea, SK Telecom, has the following spec.
Cellular+Phone
Cellular-Networks: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100

Hi there.
I have the same phone. I have siwtched it to FA09 ROM, but I cannot switch on LTE mode as well.
Which SGS Secrete Code did you key in? and as far as i know, the LTE band in AT&T is different (not 2600Mhz)
I think you have to flash another modem to be able to switch frequency
I tried flashing the K model modem - but always giving fault through CWM

[Q] Unbranded unlocked Milestone cannot connect to data service on AT&T or T-Mobile

[Q] Unbranded unlocked Milestone cannot connect to data service on AT&T or T-Mobile
I bought a M1 off Amazon about 5 months ago. I don't have a data plan in my home country as my SIM is company provided without data. I get by with wifi most of the time. Over Christmas while in Miami, I tried my nephew's T-Mobile SIM from his HTC and I tried an AT&T SIM with $5 data - and neither would connect to EDGE or 3G. The phone could still make calls though. Anyone have any idea why that would be? I have no clue as to what region the phone would belong to -so I do not know what GSM frequencies it operates on. Motorola's website specs says that the GSM version operates on 850/900/1800/1900 MHz - and supposedly AT&T 3G operates on 850 7 1900 MHz -so I can't figure it out. Could it be something software/firmware related?
It's a APN issue if you can make calls but cannot connect to mobile data. Check your provider's APN configuration. (Just google it.)
yeah. check your apn. for stock rom and some other mods apns cant be configured automaticly
