when will the official froyo rom come out? If I flashed this leak build, will I be able to still update to the official froyo when it comes out? This is what stopping me from flashing the leaked build. But, still get excited about this leaked build.
You can always flash the leaked build now, and then once news of the official build is known you can use the odin one click flash back to JF6 and then update.
Do not think anyone know when the finial build will be out, it they do they are not telling.
With the first update that came out and failed for a large amount of people here, your guess will be as good as mine or anyone else, if Froyo will fail in the update process also.
Not to be "that guy" but I think this thread might be better suited to the Captivate Q&A section
This has been covered many times sense 2.2 dropped last night.

One quick question… if i root and install the 2.1 ROM will i still be able to update the firmware regularly through the phone’s update firmware feature under settings/about phone/system updates/firmware update?
Nope.
If you want to go to official 2.1 when its released, you'll have to go back to your stock 1.5, and then update in the settings>about>...etc. menu..
FYI. When the official update is released, the exploit used to gain root will most likely be patched, and you'll be stuck on that firmware until somebody finds another exploit.
Keyboard lags?
I'm an idiot and can't tell the difference between reply to post and new topic.

I'm using Pancake2.1, and the keyboard with no feedback lags like a b****.
I've noticed this in other roms, too. I think it's the modified keyboard..Anyway, any ideas on what to do, or where to get the default one?

okay, TOTALLY the wrong thread radxcoresteven. if you need help, post that in the pancake 2.1 thread, please.
and secondly, please please STOP posting these threads that are titled "please help!", "i need help", "HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!", "OMG WHAT HAPPENED". they provide no information at all. for your issue, why not make the thread title "does using 'update firmware' work on rooted 2.1 roms?". it makes much more sense.
and no, the update firmware option won't work on the rooted roms. like it was said before, you'll probably have to go back to 1.5. or use an official RUU.

If you go with official releases you can forget using any root apps.. I use adfree, autokiller, drocap, etc. Upgrade now and then you can upgrade to a pre-rooted version of 2.1 from XDA Devs when the final release 2.1 comes out...that is if Sprint ever wraps up their final release.
I feel like an idiot..I thought it hit new topic..lol
Sorry.

this is why ill wait until the final comes out and we get a rooted / custom rom made of it.
Your answer...
Type
2.1 official upgrade into the search bar in the top right corner of this page, under the search tab...
Read a little bit, and there you have it...
You people answering these questions are just feeding an endless chain, look at how many "IF I CAN UPDATE TO 2.1" threads there are....
Ignore them, and force people to stop being lazy.. And then the threads die away...
Well thank you all for your help. i have rooted and installed 2.1 but plan on going back to 1.5 when the actual update comes out.

There is no official release for Froyo for any of the Galaxy S phones. Design Gears posted a Beta, and Cognition is based on that. It is stable, but there are some bugs.
All Samsung owners are waiting on an official galaxy S announcement.
thanks I think ill hold on a bit
Today I learned that captivate got a official froyo update. But I have no idea how to update. Does anyone know how to get the update?
Sent from my phone
Try this (official from Samsung): http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=558&AT_ID=368733

That should give you everything you need
There is already a thread about this. Please search before opening a new thread. Thread closed
As the title states, did Bell ever release Gingerbread (2.3) for the SGS?
I did a search, and I checked out the "similar threads" that pop up when posting this...but I didn't find it.
I'd connect to Kies to find out...but for some reason Kies never connects to my phone...I have no idea why. My phone says connected. I use LauncherPRO, but I set TW as the default before connecting...no dice.
Anywho, I'm really only looking for the answer to my first question. If they did release it, then I might be looking to find out why I can't connect.
Thanks in advance.
Yep, it's out
IMHO, if you want to upgrade without issues, do a full reset first.
Thanks.
Can I get one more confirmation please...before I wipe my phone and find out it's NOT true?
see any posts discussing UCKG3 which is Bell 2.3.3 -- a thread exists on updating and there are postings of the firmware within the thread by Ramad I believe
you should check out darkyrom
supper easy to flash and faster than UK3
10.2 RE via Odin will be your 1st flash
then 10.2.2 from the darky app.
If you want even faster, try the JVT beta Darky ROM
I am trying out the JVT beta right now and loving it
Hi Guys, been reading up on Android for a while and have to say you guys are awesome some really great info in here.
i just have one quick question if someone would be so kind to help.
i was awaiting the ICS update and checking the Facebook page (and here). wasnt feeling experienced enough to do the whole root and mod stuff yet (hopefully soon)
but on the facebook page. i noted this link for a simple official upgrade
http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/article/424364/how_update_your_samsung_galaxy_note_ice_cream_sandwich/
i followed the procedure (perhaps very stupidly)
came straight here to see what new magic i could make
and saw the "Public Service Announcement"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633938
did i screw up here guys? kinda freaked! if so....should i revert back. is that an easy thing to do?
maybe im reading too much into it
thanks the help ill be sure to thank anyone
You should be fine. This is really affecting what seems to be the rooted version with chain fire. I have the official stock lpy and have no issues. So I would just recommend staying where you are at the moment and don't attempt to root or go into cwm.

lol you just freaked me out aswell, but i guess this has nothing to do with the official stock Germany ICS release, right!? Cos i Flashed it yesterday and its working great so far!!!!
Or is this something that can happen down the line?
The announcement is for ICS repacks from previous leaks
+1 ! i'm also hesitant on rooting and flashing because i'm too busy at the moment and can't be bothered with a bricked phone.
The announcement you're refering to is quite old though and concerns ICS repacks that were built using leaks while the official G-Note ICS from Samsung was still under development.
If you flashed your phone using the official ICS downloaded from samsung directly you shouldn't have any problem.
Also, i'm not 100% sure about this but i think flashing (even an official and clean stock rom) can go dreadfully wrong (=bricked phone) if there's a problem (like a powerfailure or computer crash or if your cat jumps on your phone and disconnects the cable) in the very first phases after you launched the operation. That's when the program installs all the required boot files on the phone and if those are missing, it just will never turn on again.
I also asked some folks in another post on the forum and they assured me that most roms are safe to flash if they we're built from stock roms. So since GB has been out for so long, it's pretty much safe to flash any GB-based custom rom. Now that ICS is out, it'll be pretty safe to flash custom ROMs based on ICS in a month or two i guess.
I'm too inexperienced to give advice but i think you'll be fine. Hope the above info was useful.
