Help!!!

I Have the new cyanogen rom 4.0.2 installed. For some reason my phone is just stuck on the android logo. I need help because i'm sort of new with this rooting business. Somebody please help because I'm freaking out right now.

Is it stuck at the android screen or is it boot looping? And don't freak.. rooting, if you've done some research isn't too bad.

It was stuck on the android screen. But I wiped the data and installed a fresh copy of cyanogen mod.

So you got past the android logo?

Yes, now I did because I wiped everything and then installed a new copy. So far it seems to be working. Fingers crossed.

That's a question that only you have an answer for. I don't personally like the xROM but that's because I've tasted Hero and can't let it go When it comes to the different roms if you really want to know how they run, flash and test! This is going to be the best way for you to see the differences between the roms. (also check the rom's change logs. they have information about updates and whatnot)

Last question, do I need to wipe the phone clean before going to different rom or just flash the rom?

Most of the non-hero roms you can flash without wiping. But if you run into bootloops, then you'll need to wipe.

No problem man

If you plan on trying any Hero roms makes sure you update the new Radio and SPL. And please god make sure you do the RADIO FIRST then the SPL. If you don't do it that way you will have a $400 paperweight.
And my opinion, stick with non-Hero for now. Not saying they aren't good but I have tested all of them for a day or 2 each and even with a class 6 sd card and trying different swap values and sizes they always have some lag. If you are a casual user then I suppose you would be fine, but I have a business to run and cannot afford to miss any calls or texts. I need the web to run and be able to go home without and lag, or to get a quick email out in under a minute. Some people here say its just as fast but I have to disagree for the most part. When the dev's can get these new sets of hero rom's to be fully stable/optimized maybe I will try again but if you rely on your phone like I do then you may want to stick with cyan/xrom/jf for now.

1st is myfave in OTA if you dont have myfave in your account then it's basically the same

Anyways, ota updates are tmobile based. They have myfaves, are labeled as a g1 device, and are usually odexed. Adp updates are aimed at a dev phone, they are labeled as such, don't come with myfaves or other propprietary software, and are usually not odexed. Both are signed with different keys

ADP1 doesn't have tmobile spam.
ADP1 has root.
ADP1 doesn't waste data by downloading OTA updates behind your back.

My concern is different. I use the one-click method to root the phone, namely the recovery flasher. I understand that it uses a hole that it patched in newer Unix OS. So my question is whether accepting Donut over the air will include a patch that would disable the one-step rooting of the phone?

Yes, we know that, but right now my phone is unrooted and I am pondering whether to accept the OTA 1.6 or to reject it because it might be preventing future rooting.
There may be many unrooted users as of this moment and we need guidance whether we should accept or reject a 1.6 OTA.
EDIT: From the official announcement, "Android 1.6 upgrades the Linux kernel from 2.6.27 to 2.6.29". So the real question is whether the kernel pdate renders one-click rooting impossible.

donut patches that lunix exploit for the one click root hack. so yes if you accept that image you will have to root it the old fashion way by reflashing the rc 29 image and using telnet and whatnot.

2) Is anybody going to create an alternative one-click method. Not everyone out there (and that includes me) has the expertise to do the more complex rooting process ...

If you don't have the expertise to root your phone the old fasion way. Then you SHOULD NOT be rooting your phone at all. Just accept the ota update and leave it at that.

okay why dont u just hurry up and root..then install one of the custom 1.6 roms
yes the OTA 1.6 will patch up the "hole" needed for the 1-click root.
from what i figure out if you already have OTa 1.6 then downgrade to OTA cupcake and then try 1 click root. or root the LOONG way.

If you cannot root by downgrading to rc29 ,then how do expect to solve any problems your phone gives you after you root it?

highly untrue. i dont have "expertise" in doing root the long way.
i dont even remember EVERYTHING(mostly commands in terminal) since i only rooted ONCE the long way. and its been a loong tim since i rooted. so i am no expert
so i think u need to stfu. what you said wasnt being very constructive and very much false.

i agree thats y i dnt like the one click method. it just brought a flood of noobs who didnt understand what they were doing by rooting it. i mean i was a noob when i rooted but i did it the old way by dwngrading and such.

Same here. Though I like to do things the easy way, the 1-click got many people who don't even understand what root access is nor the dangers of having root access on their phone.
I only hope that they learn the details of how to use and maintain rooted android fast

But.... have found that certain builds lack that credentials i.e internal storage or market access for apps.... so i have found that the (holiday updates for the adp1 work the best for me!)
Not everyone will agree with me at this time, and yes ive had all the jf and cm mods on my devices, but i care more about internal storage and warranty than all that crazyniess!
And even after getting hero on my pda, i still went back to the adp1 1.6 and lost root!
Now the minute somebody figures out who to gain root after donut/1.6 applying hero wont be hard at all!

Most, if not all, custom roms have 100% market access. All donut builds have support for using internal ROM for apps only. You warranty is null if you have the ADP image installed on a T-Mobile G1
ADP1.6 still has root.
We all know how to gain root after donut.

Hi guys, I'm making this thread after fiddling around with the search for a while because I don't know exactly what to search for to get the answers to the questions I need answered. If anyone could link me to a thread containing these answers, I'd be eternally grateful. Please don't be mad, I'm sure the regulars have answered these a thousand times.
I live in Brazil and got my N1 through an american friend.
1- Can I root a N1 running Froyo (FRF91)?
2- If I root my phone, will I have access to paid apps? Do I pay for them with my google account somehow?
3- Will rooting my N1 screw up my ability to call folks?
4- Is there any reason to root a froyo N1? (I've been told Cyanogen's mod of 2.1 was a billion times better than the default one, but I don't think there's a 2.2 build)
Again, Sorry if these were answered somewhere else. In that case, please link me and I'll be quiet

1. Yes, I'm sure you can, but maybe not yet with the method that doesn't unlock the bootloader.
2. Yes, with MarketEnabler. You pay with a Google Checkout account.
3. No.
4. When CyanogenMod 6 comes out, for sure. Right now I have CM5.08 (2.1) and Froyo FRF83 on my N1 and I prefer Froyo to be honest. But CM6 will have 720P recording and other cool stuff.

Can this method above be used without having having to cut the battery with a razerblade?
I want to root but without unlock bootloader to keep warranty intact.

well imo cutting that small tab on the battery is very easy to do and in no way affects vital battery operation. its just a separate piece of plastic.
however, some members have managed to force their sdcard in without cutting the tab, but that may cause more damage than cutting the battery if something goes wrong.
you can also either get a spare battery that doesnt have the tab or a class 6 transcend 4gb microsd.
there arent to many viable options im afraid, but the piece you cut off the battery is not really even a part of the battery. i think its just there to ensure the sd remains secure during operation

I have been considering root for a long time, but the thing that will make me root right away was if FM was working, and perhaps 720p, but with the new Froyo I haven't seen arguments that should make me use costum rom yet, but if there's someone that can tell me otherwise, I would like to know

Currently I m on FRF91 stock, I hv read the posts in dev section and it seems the only way now is to downgrade first then upgrade afterwards. And there are so many different combination of kernels, tools, etc. which bloated my head. And in different tutorials I read ppl facing different issues. Cutting the plastic part of the battery is another obstacle (for my mind) to overcome. In some tutorials, however, I don't see this particular step as necessary, e.g.:

So for now, I will keep reading and probably wait for a new tutorial for rooting stock frf91 without touching the bootlocker, and without issues...

Well you can avoid cutting the battery if you can see your phone through ADB while in recovery. That is the most difficult part of the whole process. The rest of it is easy and takes less than 2 minutes.
If your phone shows up in adb while in recovery, your pretty much good to go. As for rooting, you really dont need to mess with any kernels or roms. You can stay stock and rooted. Thats what ive done (though i plan on moving to other roms soon enough)
The workarounds and problems for the root method without unlocking bootloader all stem from seeing your phone in recovery and the SD is what plays the major role. All other problems are because of circumstances of people not following directions or flukes.

- Extract the files within "ROOT_FRF83.zip" into the "tools" directory of the extracted SDK package
While I m already on FRF91, this sounds like I m going to push something older to my phone. Am I correct?

well, i updated a stock european rom (EPF30)
unlocked the bootloader and was rooted. Glad
after downgrading to firmware ERD79 still rootacces
then i received by OTA build FRF91
installed without problems.
butt, no rootacces now.
searched for a working superboot for FRF91. No succes at the moment
For me it is not clear how to get full acces. ?

I cut my battery to root my phone, and the amount you have to remove is really negligible. I don't think it even makes a difference to the security of fit of the SD card. I can get the card in, but I can't get it out with the battery in

As the requirements for that guide state, you must have an N1 at FRF85B or lower. It doesn't work on FRF91.
- Stuck on FRF91? Use THIS to downgrade to EPE76, then use my links to upgrade to FRF85B, FRF83, or FRF72 to complete the process.

Ordered a G1 and had a few questions

First off I want to say that I know my way around a WinMo flash,reflash, nand breaking and all that jazz pretty well. But Android...not so much.
I ordered a G1 off Ebay recently, it has been shipped, but in the mean time, I was wanting to research the rooting and flashing process..It looks very involved...Very involved..lol
I've read the guides and such but was curious about the rom/radio bricking issues. With WinMo theres alot of radios..How about Android(My phone is an unlocked T-Mobile)?? Are there still known issues?? I like this rom http://lb.vg/fVl3w
Are the guides for rooting on here currently up to date(I think they are, and they probably are)?? Do I have to root to flash a new rom on there(I think I do)??
Sorry for the n00bish questions, but I really don't wanna kill my phone.
Can all bricks be fixed via the user??

First root (did it yesterday for the first time, phone was rooted when I got it).
You need root for certain apps, for installing another spl, custom roms.
Root installs recovery (if I remember ok).
Upgrade spl from stock to 1.33.2003 (zip file in recovery). Now you can use fastboot (safer!).Reboot in fastboot and flash first another recovery, then another radio (2.x) radio (needed for spl 1.33.2005), reboot again, go to fastboot and flash the dangerspl 1.33.2005 (or use MTDpartitions, but I got problems with it). Then flash roms.(no need for the old hardspl).
Flash not supported(arm incompatible).
Bricks can only be fixed with an JTAG, so be carefull (always wait) ! ROMS can't brick your device, only the officials can (which contain spl and radio).
Read for flashing the spl's (if you have rogers(canada) it's different).

Idk what this user means by saying that flash isn't compatible with the arm processor.
But yes android 2.2 supports flash all the way to flash 10 but on the g1 I don't think it would be so good on 528mhz because flash is pretty bloated on system resources. But flash videos are fine hulu runs fine for me.

Should I do any sort of formatting or partitioning on my SD card or just let the G1 do it??
I've got an 8gig SDHC Class 4 card also.
I've also been reading about J-Tagging the G1..Theres an adapter on here http://miniurl.com/49008 and it's 20USD for the adapter but I think I have to heek it up to an Omnia Repair box..Is that right?? This video http://miniurl.com/49009 shows em hooking one up to a white box..and the only white box on there site is for the Omnia Repair one and it's 229 Euro's(304USD).
Does the first reply have the correct steps for rooting my phone?? Is that for all versions. I'm not sure if mines a R29 or lower.

Rooting and installing new rom. Non-noob inside.

Okay, I've done my fair share of searching numerous forums. So, please don't flame for some noobish questions.
I owned a G1 before and had no problem re-flashing a new rom image every other day. Maybe it's the price tag on my N1 that has had me hesitating with rooting it.
Ok, here is my 'problem' I just got the new OTA update FRG83. I would like to know exactly how I would go about rooting and installing a new ROM on my N1.
Also, what ROM is the best out there for the N1, I used cyanogen on my G1 forever so I really trust his ROMS.
Basically I'm just really afraid of messing my phone up, although I'm sure it's just as easy as it was on my G1.

No need to unlock - the whole point is rooting w/o unlocking.
Flash the recovery using flash_image method.
Nothing else missing.

As for a ROM to use, I use Enomther's official Nexus. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614427 I have tried several different ROM's and this one is hands down the best. I have not used CM6 since RC1, so I cannot speak for how that is now. But Enomther's was way better than CM6 RC1 IMO.

I'm with stickerbob with being rooted and loved enomther's. Now I've moved to MIUI, and I don't believe I'll be looking back anytime soon. Love MIUI, once I flashed the English translation pack 3 that is =D it rocks IMO. If you wanna look into it after root...
