Cm6 calibration - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone figure out how to calibrate cm6? I can calibrate with a level app but it does not save to other apps. I must say the orientation on a new flash is way off. It can get irritating using certain games and such.

I don't think you can, but I don't seem to have any troubles with calibration.

[Q] USB Settings for screen stays on durring charging

The option for settings, applications, development, screen stays on during charging, has "left the building" in almost all current roms. I can not locate anywhere else in settings. My question is how do i get it back? flash a modem , or ist it kernal related?
I think the importance of this feature is quite obvious i.e. using NAV while driving and your screens turns off, or using the music player, etc, etc, etc.
I have tried for hours to search on this and have found nothing.
Thanks in advance!

its something samsung removed in 2.2.1......not kernel or modem related. not much you can do right now unless you or a dev want to figure out how to get that setting back
by the way, NAV doesnt shut off, regardless of that setting
your only other option is to go back to 2.2

Thanks for the quick response Pirateghost!!
maybe i can live with out it :/
I'm no dev, and it seems the devs obviously think it wasnt that big of a loss. Otherwise it would have been in the roms already LOL.
Again thanks for the quick response!

Does this mean that falshing a 2.2 kernal will not resolve this?
i.e I flash perception or pheonix then flash a 2.2 kernal.
Or would the rom have to be complete 2.2 like Cog 2.3b8
2.3b8 is the only rom i have found so far that has the option.
Thanks in advance!

This has nothing to do with the kernel. It is in the rom so if you want the feature you need to flash a complete 2.2 rom. Honestly, where are you missing it the most?

When im driving, if i want to switch a track from the music player its nice to just swype the screen, instead of having to handle the phone to turn on from sleep then unlock it. Also at least for me NAV would shut off.
Personaly every other phone i have ever had, has had a setting to keep the display on all the time or timed shut off. This is nothing new and it should be standard in my opinion.
Get this app "battery booster". This has an option to set the screen to always on too. But remember, leaving the screen on like that could cause a burn in effect.

Thanks a alot!
But I don't believe a burn in effect is possible OLED type displays theres nothing that can "ghost" chemicaly or otherwise, FYI
This was a big problem however with plasma displays.
Thats why plasma production has droped over 80 percent and its way more expensive than amoled or oled.

If u r planning to use this at night, I would recommend to get a "screen filter" app too that can help reduce the brightness of screen so it does not strain ur eyes.

I've seen visible image retention (which is temporary) on my Captivate's display.
Burn-in (as in burning into the glass, which is permanent) was only an issue with the earliest plasmas. Leaving a still image on a current plasma for 48 hours will give you some heavy image retention, which can be cured within 24 hours with noise/special patterns/normal usage.

[miui gps fix]come on!! Let us test it!!!!!

hi everybody!!!
Firstly, thank you for wasting your time read my post which may not actually work for your device.
Ok, let's begin.I believe that I find a way to fix MIUI GPS problem. Maybe works for CM, but i haven't tested it.
It was all begin from I found a phenomenon that the first boot after I flashed a GPSfix.zip(download from MIUI.com), GPS would work perfectly, but the second time i booted, the third time i booted, GPS just broke down. So i thought that it was the script in the GPSfix.zip that made GPS work!!
Obviously, what I need to do is that to make sure the script runs every time I boot my phone. So I got an app "autostart.apk" for help. And then, I modified the script picked up from the GPSfix.zip.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALL INSTRUCTION
1. flash gpsfix.zip in cmw.
2. install autostart.apk, reboot your phone, and click yes when ask for root.
3. Put the autostart.sh to /data/opt (you have to create opt folder yourself),reboot
4. use angrygps.apk for settings(mebased,cold start,sulp.nokia.com,7275) and testing.

DECLAIMER
1. Also I would not be responsible for any problem caused.
2. I AM NOT a developer. I HAVEN'T STUDIED LINUX, NOT TO MENTION ANDROID. what i did is search on the Internet, holding the ethusiasm to MIUI. SO any suggestion is welcomed!!!!AND I hope a developer can carry on GPS fix job, cause I have no knowledge of android.
3. Sorry for my pooooooor english. BUT I think you can understand what i said.
4. I am not sure whether this way is suitable for you or not. If not, I am sorry. And I hope you can fight for MIUI GPS throughout, for you, for me, and for every Vibrant!

Strange, GPS has worked for me just fine on MIUI since 1.9.2. Sometimes GPS won't activate (satellite icon won't appear), but a reboot has always fixed it.
I was thinking the same thing. Ever since I've been using MIUI I have had a working GPS. I didn't know GPS was broken on MIUI.

Same exact issue I'm having with MiUi.
GPS fails to activate/engage(sat icon does not appear)... unless I reboot then GPS works.
Anyone know why, or a possible fix?

Every gpsd I've used in my own fix or any other fix seems to be really sensitive to lock-failures - if you back out of an app that's trying to get a fix, for some reason gps never comes back online.
If I can get a fix first thing, this seems to never happen.

I think you're right, that has been my experience as well.
Regardless, it's reassuring to hear I'm not alone!
To everyone who said there GPS has always worked on miui, has your navigation worked too? Because my phone knows where I am if I'm still but never moving.
And I have been on miui since they have said to have had working GPS and the only think that worked for me is the cm7 fix. Well until 1.5 came out.

I hope someone figues out a fix. I really hate rebooting to get GPS to work.
You know what also was working since last night. I downloaded ADVANCED TASK KILLER, and killed everything, and it had the same effect as rebooting. The built in task killer in miui does not have the same effect. This ATK trick was working up till about 10 mins ago when my GPS wouldn't come on no matter what! I was forced to reboot. Other than that the ATK trick worked. You know what else....I found going into App manager...finding the APP GPStest and clearing the user data for some reason has the same effect as rebooting also, makes GPS in Maps work.
Strange observations I know.

[Q] Extreme sensor usage Gallery and Camera apps

Hey everyone,
I'm on CM7 (Temasek's KANG) and Gallery and Camera are draining my battery majorly by heavy sensor usage. Often either of them is responsible for ~30% of my battery usage. I've searched here and googled, but I didn't find a solution. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
I too have same thing here, but i think its normal coz any phone on which I've used cyanogenmod, shows usage on camera and gallery for no reasonreason

I know it happens for more people, so I can't imagine there's no fix =/
+1 to this, which kernel are you guys using?
same here, but it also happens using other apps like youtube, the only way to fix is to reboot the phone... in some cases temporary disabling auto screen rotation may resolve the issue
i already tried switching from stock kernel to vadonka's builds with no results, i'm on temasek's rc1-89
does this happen only on cm7 based roms??

Have you tried temasek's kernel? I'm trying that one atm and it seems to work better. (Can't confirm yet, will update when sure)
I also changed the default gallery for QuickPic that doesn't uses the sensor and disabled the sensor before rebooting, that avoids sensor use at all until I really need it i.e. watching a video. I'm more like a vertical phone user so I'm ok with it. Can you confirm that the bug isn't on stock based roms?

that's the first thing i did because apps like gallery3d (and youtube) use sensors regardless of your display rotation settings
As far as I know the sensor issue in gallery isn't as bad as we think. Though the battery history shows big % but actually it uses near to nothing.
temasek's kernel seems to not trigger the bug that often, or at least after apps are killed seems to not leave the sensor on use, I cannot be sure as I haven't checked the logcat or anything... only the battery stats.
Do you guys know if partial wakes are too heavy on battery? facebook seems to keep the phone awake a lot (like 50%) so it doesn't sleeps.
now that temasek says that it's not much of a battery drain I might go back to etana's kernel after trying this one for some days, to compare better
oh and temasek ---> HUGE THANKS FOR YOUR ROM!

[Q] Brightness control not working

I've tried searching other threads/posts but I don't see any solutions at all. I want to first rule out the problem being with the software before I send my Nexus One to a mobile phone technician for hardware repair.
Here's the situation. I got my Nexus One used, at very cheap price but with slight defect that the seller kindly informed me about. The brightness control is not working. He said that it started happening after installing CyanogenMod7 from stock rom.
I still purchased it from him and now it's my problem. I tried looking for solutions. Here's what I did so far:
reset the phone, including formatting the sdcard
installing 3rd party brightness controllers
reinstalling CyanogenMod7 and even used CM6, I've also used nightly and RC CM7
trying other roms (those that do not require modifying hboot [blackrose])
Having said the last item, that is something I have yet to try and really giving it a good thought before finally trying because of some cautions regarding Nexus One having SLCD as indicated by MICROP 0c15.
One thing to consider as well, whenever I run the stock clock app and press the brightness icon, the backlight does get dim so I'm thinking that the brightness can still be controlled.
Any ideas, guys?
Btw, as you can see, this is my first post. Apparently, I cannot find the solution myself so I had to ask.
Thank you in advance.
I have the same issue on both stock rom and the great CM7, Im hoping there is a fix for this.
It seems that only very few experienced this problem and the fact that there aren't any helpful reply means that there is no solution for this issue yet.
I really don't want to believe that this is a hardware failure, though.

try screen filter app from play store ..
I've tried using screen filter app and it was able to control the brightness but only to lower it.
Compared to other android phones, the brightness on my nexus one is definitely not on it's highest setting even if the screen filter app says it's on 100%.
It's like it's on 50% brightness.
Could the hboot have something to with this? I'm using 0.35.0017.
Having SLCD on it prevents me from fooling around with hboot flashing.
Any other ideas, guys?
Same problem
i on slim rom 4.3.1 on my LG P990, before the hard reset evrything was fine..n after that brightness controll dailed..
i guess ill have to Hard Reset again
but i dont wnat to..
so i guess lets just stick with it..

Did you change ANY settings? Like undervolt, overclock,... Maybe installed any "battery saving" apps? Such things might cause such behaviour. Make a nandroid backup, then do a full wipe, test again. If it doesnt get better, well I dont know what s wrong... If it does work again, you can restore your backup and try to find out, what's causing the problem
