I was wondering whats a safe overclock for tmobile G1 - G1 Apps and Games

So im running cyanogenmod 6 on my tmobile G1 i was wondering whats a safe overclock for max and min
also i was wondering what do u think the coolest widgets and stuff are

I run mine at 576... smooth...and no issues yet
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App

576 is what Cyanogen includes in CM6 as the max stable overclock. From all the testing I have done with SetCPU's built in stress test, 576 is the max stable overclock for my phone. Anything higher and I will see random reboots or hard freezes.

Agree with everyone else....576mhz is the max I would ever go. As far as "cool" widgets/stuff, I would say:
1. Mobile buzz
2. Tech buzz
3. Cubed music player
4. Black Facebook
5. TuneIn Radio
6. SNES Emulator
That's just a few I like and enjoy, but to each their own

i have also had this problem. I just went down to 576/122 on setpu

614 oc is stable, mT 1.2. Pretty much same phone

thanks people

heroc overclocking

hi I was wondering how high you can over clock your hero. I have to 758 mhz and it is perfectly stable. Is there any thing i can use to over clock it more.
768 is the highest I've seen.

I've heard that 710 is really the highest you can reliably run, I wouldn't risk the damage just to go that little bit higher.

Thats all I have seen to. I did here that you could get it a little over 900 MHz.
LOL, it would probably catch on fire at 900.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe this.
Mine is closked to 691 and it totally stable. If I push to 710 it starts to become less stable.
Can you show us screenprints ?
Im running 2.2. ShootMe doesn't work on this rom, go download and test for yourself.
im also running 2.2. if you wanna try it out for yourself download ([Rom] Darchdroid v2.7 "KangSlayer" | Complete, OC'd, MMS, Camera, Everything!!) I am at 768 MHz. I use setcpu, profiles. when the screen is off its at 518 MHz.
sry because i am new i cant poste urls

Mine is stable at 787 also.. Ever hero is different.. Iv also been running OC since the day toastcfh figured it out over 2 months ago. I have ran 768mhz min and max for an entire day with no problem (i was benchmarking and forgot). Some people cant even run 710mhz without there phone becoming unstable.
Also 768mhz is the clock speed most kernels are maxed at cuz the highest clock speed the hero can be clocked to with a benefit is 768mhz (darch will include 787 in his kernels sometimes). 787mhz will actually give the same or worse results as 768 because it, in a sense, clogs the CPU. We cant raise our FSB of the cpu.
Toastcfh, the reason who got us OC, has actually pushed it as far as he could go. He got way higher then 787. But like i said, there is not benefit of it.
Our phones wont blow up or stop working because the speeds are high. If you keep the temps down you really dont have anything to worry about, temps are the main reason why OC will kill the life of a CPU.
Awesome Information, Thanks.

[Q] Overclock question

I am using Setcpu on my motorola droid with rooted FRG22. Why wont it let me overclock it higher than 800mhz??? I'm kinda new to doing this and wondering if I'm doing anything wrong. Thank you
[A] Overclock answer
Yes you have SetCPU and your phone is rooted. However, you're missing one more piece to the puzzle. In order for you to clock over 800Hz you have to install a kernal cooresponding to the voltage and what you want to overclock it to. I recommend you googling(haha) p3designs and choose a kernal you want to try. Instructions are on the site as to how to install. I currently have a low voltage of 125Mhz overclocked at 1Ghz. Hope that helps
Question for you Stephen, with you running 1.2Ghz on your droid, has there been any istances of freezing thus far? I was tempted to go higher, though I stuck with 1Ghz to be safe.

The right approach to overclocking is not how fast can you go, but how low can you tolerate? Most Droids are stable to 1.2 ghz. Some can go higher, some can't. I'm running the "stock" 1ghz kernel that comes with Sapphire rom. However, I have it choked back to 800mhz. This gives me 36 hours of battery life on light-moderate use, (3G off, wifi on) but also lag-free performance.
This is chevys 1.25 medium voltage, only reboots were with watching movies online.

The links for the kernals over at p3designs don't seem to be working for me. Does anyone have some overclocking kernels they could post?

I understand what you mean. I've done the trial between 800Mhz and 1Ghz. I have emulators now and I liked the performance on the 1Ghz more because of the speed, so I kept it on 1Ghz. I haven't had any battery drainage issue and all. I liked my low voltage 1Ghz kernal.

Is this the site you tried accessing the kernals? I did a test and downloaded the kernal zip fine.
That does sound impressive. I'm curious to try that out even more so now.

Fastest Hero Kernel?

So I have a random question here. I've got a buddy that has his original G1 overclocked at 1.2Ghz. I was pretty impressed by it and figured if the G1 could achieve that, then the Hero has to have at least a kernel up to 1 Ghz. Any thoughts on this? I really don't care about overheating the phone, I'm just tired of the lag. Right now I'm clocked at 728 Mhz.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
You must do more than overclock to improve responsiveness.
I can run a stock, rooted and just by deleting many, many items, the phone is very fast(responsive).
Typically, the Hero will dislike clock speeds over 710. Some can run stable at 768 but not many.
Well, honestly. I really don't care what my Hero likes. Lol. I once had a Palm Pre running at 1.2 Ghz and it was blazing fast. I don't really think that storage space really makes a huge difference, it more or less depends on your clock speed.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Good luck, man. If you just want to ramp up the speeds, try the standard voltage kernel. Found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705074
I would say use the v4 version as it runs the stock(I believe)voltage. There also may be others that other users will suggest; Im not a pro by any means.

What is the fastest ROM?

I am getting annoyed with the speed of my Sprint Hero. the lag on the dialer is really annoying me, I hit dial and wait 5-10 seconds before the phone actually dials then it does the stupid vibrate after the call is ringing already.
Sometimes I think i did not hit the call button so i hit it again, and nothing happens for a while then suddenly I get 2 calls going at the same time to the same person.
I am rooted and running a 2.1ROM but I forgot which one, but it doesnt have any special features besides the super user app and htc sense.
Im willing to settle for something with out sense as long as it speeds up the phone.
I am even considering if its possible to unroot and to whatever 2.1 version sprint has out now and hope it fixes things.
Please let me know which ROM I should try, I dont care about sense, live wallpapers, special animations, just make the phone quicker.
cyanogen 2.2 mod is the best...overclock it to 768
Well, I assure you that using stock 2.1 will *not* fix your problems, especially lag issues. Better to stick to modded ROMs, to be honest.
After trying a few ROMs, I came to love ZenEXP. And with the 0.9.7 release that just came out, it seems like things have gotten even faster. You're rooted, so... do a nand backup, and give it a shot. Try Cyanogen too, as the last person said.

Please note that not every Hero will tolerate 768 on the processor. Really, seems only a select few can run it without stability issues. Mine will freeze instantly if set any higher than 710. This is why the new CM6 is clocked at 691, so everyone can boot it, and so it is rock solid. If you can get 768, then you are one of the lucky ones!

How do you get it to 768? I'm using setCPU and it peaks at 528
My max is 678.. but I put it at 652. Should I just max it out at 678?
Never mind its 691.. I maxed it.. I wont have a problem with battery overheating right?

The app that you use to manage your OC speed doesn't determine how fast your processor will actually run, it's all based on the kernel embedded (or flashed) onto your phone. If you're running stock 2.1 then SetCPU will only show your max speed as 528mhz because that's how fast the stock kernel is. Other ROMs like DarchDroid and CM6 have kernels that boost the max speed to over 700mhz. If you install one of those then you'll see massive speed improvements to your phone and with SetCPU you can either leave the kernel to allow for maximum speed or you can throttle it down if your phone becomes unstable and can't handle it.

Wow, thanks for the tip. I'm running the stock 2.1 atm because I haven't found a rom that combines both live wallpapers and multitouch yet. I play games on my phone often, probably too often, and I have to be able to use two fingers. The live wallpaper thing is just because I think it looks really cool, especially that mario one.

All of the cm6's are fast, just have to figure the right configuration for your own phone!

Awesome app to change galaxy s settings including temporary overclock and EQ

Found this app today and thought it was worth sharing. It can do a lot of things such as LCD color adjustment, Sound EQ, Memory Manager, Temporary overclock, Button Remap, Touch Gesture, and much more.
It is in the market and the name of it is Galaxy tuner.
F.Y.I this only works on Froyo
P.S. It would be awesome if one of you developers could change the temporary overclock to a permanent overclock just saying.
good find ill have to try it.

I tried this a while ago. According to a few development its not even overclock as I don't think its possible and when using a widget it doesn't show higher then 1ghz. Soooo. Adjusting LCD color actually distorts the color slightly IMO. The mice thing is its free and technically all of the fubtion do, do something.

If that is the case I am not sure exactly what it does. I do know that when use quadrant to benchmark when it is "overclocked" it added about 150-200 to what my score was and in linpack it went from 13 to 16.

Just wondering what rom and kernel are you running because right now it seems like no matter what rom or kernel I flash i can never get over 1000 unless I use the temporary overclock which then brings me up to about 1300.

Just really curious and off topic. Do you by chance, go to Georgia Southern? Because I do.
How can this tool claim to overclock the cpu without a kernel that supports the higher frequency? Sounds like snake oil to me...
I've used it in the past to get EQ for use with Pandora. But that's all i've ever used from it. Lately I've just been using Voodoo Control Bass Boost feature to adjust for different headphones that I use.
