Hi All,
First time poster here. I find these forums to be a great resource and I'm hoping someone can shed light on this seemingly basic understanding issue.
It seems to me there are four different methods of accessing e-mail (five if you count internet) on my stock Samsung Captivate. I've listed them below.
Corporate Account
Google Account
Default Android E-mail Client
Mail App
Internet
How does one go about choosing which method to use? Which ones allow push versus pull? I have multiple e-mail addresses, but not sure which method to utilize to set each one up. I am not yet interested in merging them all in one gmail account.
Is the Google Account the same as using the Gmail App?
What are the max number of Google accounts you can set up. I have two on my phone and am running into issues setting up the third.
Is yahoo capable of being setup on the Corporate account? I found settings to set up Gmail this way. Just wondering if I can do the same for yahoo.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
I know some of you have suffered from disappearing mail when using WM to download mail from Gmail via POP and I believe there have been some work arounds (using recent: and/or setting your WM6 to not download the entire smg), but I've never been really satisfied with them. Well, since I have a TILT, thought I'd ask my fellow Tilt folks to try this out.
In any case, I tried this workaround and it seems to be working. If someone would be nice enough to double check my steps to see if this works for you, this just might solve the whole GMail/POP/WM6 mishaps.
BTW, as a discalimer, I don't know if someone's come up with this type of solution!
Ok, we'll need two Gmail accounts, one that is your PRIMARY-GMAIL account and then you have your SECONDARY-GMAIL account (bear with me, it'll become clear why in a bit).
Typically, your PRIMARY-GMAIL is the account you receive all of your mail and from which reply from.
Your SECONDARY-GMAIL account (either create one or use one that you already have) is the account from which you'll download mail from with your Windows Mobile device.
Setup your PRIMARY-GMAIL account to "forward a copy of your mail" to your SECONDARY-GMAIL account and "keep Gmail's copy in the inbox"
Enable POP on your SECONDARY-GMAIL account.
On your Windows Mobile device, create a new email account and manually configure to download mail from your SECONDARY-GMAIL account and set it up to download 50kb.
On your Windows Mobile device, set up the OUTGOING server to NOT use the same credentials and then put in the credentials of your PRIMARY-GMAIL account.
That's it! When you receive email to your PRIMARY-GMAIL account, it's forwarded to your SECONDARY-GMAIL account. Your WM device will download mail from this Gmail account. When you reply from your WM device, your WM device will use the credentials of your PRIMARY-GMAIL account and because of the way GMail's interface works, it uses your PRIMARY-GMAIL account as the SENT FROM. Thus to the rest of the world, you downloaded/received it off your PRIMARY-GMAIL account but to you, it's downloaded from your SECONDARY-GMAIL account, but replied/sent from your PRIMARY-GMAIL account. You should be able to download/receive the entire message now without fear of email disappearing from your PRIMARY-GMAIL account.
Sorry, it might sound confusing and convoluted, but this seems to be working for me. No more worries of disappearing messages, etc etc. Would anyone else mind testing this out?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
pretty good workaround. I just use IMAP however.
Um yeah, why use POP when IMAP works now? Pop SUCKS!
I have 3 different accounts set up on live and hotmail. I would like the emails from all of these to be accessible on my Xperia. Sadly every time I try to add the second one the phone does nothing.
I have tried two different ROMs neither of which changed the result.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks.
I'm not a hotmail/live user but i think that the phone wants to associate your live account with windows live. and you can only ad on windows live account. what you cold do is forward the mails to on account. i have 4 email account and i have them forwarded to an gmail account so i only have to ad on account for everything.
like i sayd i'm not an live user so i don't know if there is something you can do i never had this isseu.
ive got 2 hotmail accounts working on mine
Do you have live messenger installed on your phone? as a program not a panel.
You can do it, but you'll get push mail only for ONE account. This is how it works: Set up a new e-mail account, enter a fake e-mail address. The domain-part is important (The thing after @). DO NOT WRITE HOTMAIL OR MSN OR LIVE THERE! Enter correct PW for your e-mail. Then choose POP3 Servers. Servers are: pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com. Make sure you check ALL checkboxes you can, also in advanced, enable SSL, outgoing mails authentication etc. When you're done, EDIT the account you just created and put in the correct e-mail address. Now you can use it
Sweet. Thanks a million.
thats how i got mine to work
but i cant get push email to work how do you set that up?
Hi there,
I'm trying to solve the issue described below. The solution, imo, could be an app or a tweak to be able to pick the SMTP server from a (short, fixed) list, ideally just before sending an e-mail message. Is there such a thing, that anyone knows of?
The issue I'm trying to solve is the following:
when I'm home, on wifi, I can use my provider's SMTP
when I'm on mobile data, I can only use my mobile provider's SMTP (which is not the same as my land line provider)
for my business accounts, I need to use yet another SMTP (possibly more than one), at least when I'm on Wifi.
I cannot possibly modify account settings each time! If an App could do this for me, though, it would be acceptable. Even on a per account basis (as opposed to a per message basis).
Duplicating accounts so to have every required combination of account-SMTP is ... clumsy, to say the least; and it would be barely acceptable if there was a way not to duplicate data (i.e. accounts using the same incoming mail servers but different SMTP share the same data).
I'm trying AcqaMail (free). "Aliases" only for the paid version: fine, I can take this. But does anyone know if they support multiple SMTPs?
Searched this forum quite a bit to no avail. Apologies if the answer is already there.
Thanks,
Franz

Hello everyone,
I just got this phone yesterday and I tried to add my school email through the email app but it keeps saying authentication failed.
I added 3 of my other email accounts to this email app and they all went through. Only my school email address is having this problem. Can someone please help me out?
i'm not too knowledgeable on this, but i did have to set up my uncle's email addresses on an Android phone. i was having problems until i contacted his web host and found out the correct incoming and outgoing server ports..... then when i went thru the manual setup in the email app, it worked out.
I tried to search on my school website for the instruction on how to setup their email on another email client and it has all the incoming and outgoing info but when I tried to do it manually on the phone it still doesn't work. However, there is a note in the instruction that says that I have to use gmail app on the android device. I also use the gmail app to set up this email account and it works but it doesn't work with the regular email account. The thing is i want all my email accounts to be in one place and not having to use different apps for each account. If anyone have similar problems and find a way to solve this please help me out thanks.
hopefully someone can help you more. i don't know if this applies to you but my uncle's web host told me that some internet providers block the default outgoing port 25, so he suggested i use 8889, and that worked. good luck getting it working..
Sounds more like a "we want to force Android users to use the Gmail app" situation than a problem. Do you go to BOFH U? (Google bofh if you're not familiar with the breed.)
Before I switched to this phone I was using an Iphone 5 and it didn't have a problem with adding this email account.
I wonder what causes the regular email app on this phone to keep having the authentication failed message.
You won't be able to use it with the stock "email" app because of the way your schools exchange server works. You will have to get another email client that supports all of your email addresses. Try K-9 mail it's open source and works really well.

Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me out. I have my work email setup on my phone using their webmail address. If I use the standard address, i am required to have Maas360 installed, which is not an option with me being rooted. Anyways, if I have the email program I use, which is either Nine or Mail Wise, setup for ActiveSync, my business server will catch it and block me. So, I have to setup the email app to scan for new emails every X minutes.
The problem I am running into, is I did not know that I had to have ActiveSync turned off, so now my device is banned when using Nine mail. So, I tried the same with Mail Wise, and got banned again. Now, on my third app, AquaMail, I have realized the problem, and its working great. However, I would prefer to use Nine mail. When trying to go back into Nine and recreate my account, i get an error that my device is blocked. I get the same error on Mail Wise. Both list a different Device ID. NineXXXXXXX and MailWiseXXXXXXXX. Is there a way to change this ID? I tried creating a new ID in Titanium Backup and that didn't change the IDs in the mail apps.
Thanks to anyone who can help!
