[Q] Change the Camera Click Sound? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really hate the sound the camera makes when taking pics in CM6. I would prefer just a "click" or camera shutter type sound, not the loud beep it makes now. I know I can mute the sound on the phone, but I don't necessarily want no sound, just a different one.
I tried moving the camera ogg (whatever the actual name is) from the UI folder, rebooted, took a pic and the sound was still there. Then I noticed something interesting, the one I moved isn't even the same sound But I don't mind that one...so is there any way to make that one my camera sound? And where is the sound file that is playing when I take a pic if it's not the one I moved from the UI folder? I am running CM6 with DarkMod if that has any effect on anything...

The file you're looking for should be in /system/media/auido/ui/ called camera_click.ogg or something similar.
You said you removed that though?

Yup. Well, I moved it completely out of the UI folder onto the SD card, then rebooted, snapped a pic and it was the same sound, but the camera_click.ogg and the actual sound are not even the same when the file is in place. I am confused...

Ahh didn't notice this before, are you referring to a noise that sounds like the volume rocker up/down noise? The beep you hear is the auto focus, you can either turn auto focus off or turn focus to touch to get rid of it, otherwise I believe that beep is generated by the camera app itself, if I have time I'll take a look at it.
Edit
You can see it here on Github. Do a text search (ctrl+f) for "tonegenerator" and you'll see where it initiates - focusing.
Should be a relatively simple edit for those of us who know how to compile from git or smali edit. I'd do it if I had the time to, but unfortunately as of right now I have wayyy too much do deal with :/

Brilliant! That's what it was. Switched to touch focus and the annoying loud beep sound is gone. Thanks.

Changing camera shutter sound-- strange problem

So I've rooted and learned how to muck around with pulling/pushing/rming files from the system. My current goal is to replace the godawful shutter sound in the stock Camera app for Froyo. I've done the basic part just fine, but ran into a strange problem. So far, I've:
1) Pulled the original camera_click.ogg to my SDK Tools folder
2) RMed the original file from /system/media/audio/ui/
3) Pushed my own custom file (also named camera_click.ogg) back into that folder
After rebooting, my custom shutter sound plays beautifully... and then my Camera app freezes up. Although the pictures are being saved to my SD Card, the app doesn't "refresh" itself to let me snap another photo. Some of the onscreen controls animate when I press them, but nothing happens.
If I replace my custom camera_click.ogg with the original camera_click.ogg and reboot, everything goes back to normal (thank goodness).
I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has had any success with replacing the stock shutter sound, or if what I'm observing is pretty common. In either case, any ideas how I can get around it?
<3 <3
If it helps, some attachments!
Oops. I meant to attach the custom sound file I was working with, but can't seem to figure out how to edit an attachment into my original post. Sorry!
Three attachments:
1) Original, unmodified, stock shutter sound ("camera_click.ogg")
2) wav file for the new sound I'd like to use instead. Yes, it's the iPhone shutter sound. Don't judge me :] ("iPhoneShutter.wav")
3) wav file re-encoded as an ogg file. Will need to be renamed when pushing back into /system/media/audio/ui/ ("camera_clickNEW.ogg")
Shutter sound
I tried your file and had the same result, so i took your original wave and converted it. This one hasn't given me any issues.

I switched to rom cognition 1.31 and since the camera's sound effect disappears and it's important to me
How To enable Camera Sounds on Samsung Galaxy S II??
i need help please

I disabled camera shutter but what about...

that short beep when you press the camera button to tak e a picture before the shutter sound? I went into the media/audio/ui folder but I see no sound file to rename/delete for that phone sound. Does anyone know where I can find it?
thanks!!!
rename/delete all starting with cam that would fix it i guess not sure
Nope, there is no CAM files now. My phone is rooted and I deleted the shutter files for good. There doesnt seem to be any files listed regarding that sound

[Q] Camera sound on GT-N7000

Can anyone suggest why I no longer get the camera shutter sound? It doesn't work with the stock camera app (I mean the one that comes with the ROM I'm using) or third party ones. I can't find any settings disabled.
I recently had a repair done at Samsung which involved replacing the motherboard. I didn't test every single setting and function when I got it back so am tempted to assume it is related to the repair but I could be wrong.
The camera is rooted and I'm using the Ultimate XXLT4 JB 4.1.2 v6
Thanks in advance

Camera shutter sound adendum
Has no one else come across this? Most posts about the shutter sound are about how to turn it off so I guess my problem is unique. I checked that the /system/media/audio/ui/shuter.ogg file is there. It is and I can play it manually with the stock music player. Other than that, I've no idea how to fix this. All othet system sounds and alerts sem to work ok.
I'm still hoping some expert out there can help.

Hello. When you mean you don't get a shutter sound, does that mean that in camera/setting/shutter sound already enabled but no sound? please note that music or notification volume level (I forgot which one) also play a part. If your volume level is 0 or very low, the sound will not be heard. This was a trick to eliminate shutter shound back in the days when the option to disable is not there.

Thanks for replying. This was the first thing I checked.
There's no option to enable/ disable shutter sound in the stock camera app I'm using and I imagine this is why so many people were asking how to disable the sound. Can't recall if I ever saw that in the settings menu. I also have an app called CameraPro which has an Enable Shutter Sound. This is enabled but , makes no difference. It's possible I'm using an older version of the stock cameras app but it seems to me this is not the cause as it makes no difference which camera app I use.
Thanks again.

I managed to fix this by installing the jobnik_Camera_Note_JB_Mod_v8_cwm.zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863362
Now both my camera apps have shutter sound enabled. Still don't know what happened since the previous version of the app worked fine before but that's often the way with computers: just happy to fix the problem in the end.
Thanks

Thank you so much.

Taking notes with audio and video.

I really like Snote but I cant seem to record my sketching while recording audio...
It sounds like its simple and there should be an app out for that or an extension for Snote or something..
Anyone know of an app that can record your voice while you are drawing an explanation ?
Thanks.

It's a little awkward, but what I do is create it in two steps by creating the recorded drawing first, and play it through a couple of times so I know about what pace to speak, and then do my recording for audio, leaving a second or two blank in the beginning before I start speaking. Then I create a voice tag for that audio and place it under the drawing, or wherever it needs to be. When I am ready to demonstrate I select the audio tag first and the two second delay gives me time to tap the play drawing recording, and that way the audio aligns with the drawing as it appears.
You may hear better ideas from others, but this is the way I found to have it work.

What value should I change in the file mixer_paths_tasha.xml, to raise only the speaker volume during calls and not the global volume?
The volume of notifications is too high even putting it to a minimum ...
Is it possible to have indications on what are the values of the various volumes in the file mixer_paths_tasha.xml? so I could try to do some tests ...

from your zip file "speaker-stereo" Digital Gain value is 66 no 55
edit: however I set it to 48, but the volume of notifications even at a minimum is too high

Hi. This will work if I have Dolby Atmos working? I`m on latest AICP Oreo 8.1 official, by the way...
Thank you. Great job
Tried it with the latest experimental aicp. Unless it was a coincidence, it broke my ability to listen to Google play music through a cdla adapter and my ability to record voice texts through the signal messaging app. When I copied the original etc folder back to root to revert the changes both my issues we're fixed following a reboot. Maybe it's because I didn't install it through recovery. I just took the files from the zip and moved them which seems easier.

There is none during the call.
Yeah, it's almost perfect for me.
The notification sounds are a little high.
Also, the sounds on YouTube videos I watch seem to be echoing on the wall.
Sounds right during the call, I have not tested the microphone yet ...
@Abdiel1224
Edit: Instagram video is very high even at the lowest audio track.
And the camera sounds are too loud. I'm terrified when I press the button to take a picture.
What can I do about it?

the quality and clarity is great but we need some dev to get their hands on this mod to adjust the volumes of notifications etc .. the potentials of this mod are noticeable but we need to adjust the volumes.
