Hello, I've recieved my AT&T Tilt 8925 (Kais100) unit a week ago and ever since I've experienced awful battery performance. The item shipped new (not refurbished supposedly nor defective) and included a Samsung battery. I changed to Dutty's v3 ROM right away (flashing was successful, I also switched to radio version 1.27.12.27) and last night switched to Q-Mobile v1.2 to see if the ROM was the problem, but it persisted.
My battery drains extremely fast, even when the unit is off it drops 10% after 8 hours (overnight and also throughout the day, I'm leaving the unit at home while I solve this issue and it's always off). The unit does not have a SIM card inserted and the Phone function remains off, so does WiFi, Bluetooth, Beam, 3G, etc. It's also muted and has no alarms activated, nor background programs running (I'm currently running a freshly flashed Q-Mobile v1.2 ROM with a hard reset done as well).
I've read about battery perfomance extensively but haven't ever read about the battery discharging while the unit is off, and given the fact that I'm NOT using the phone functions, I barely believe this can be normal behaviour. I purchased 2 units from the same source and both are having similar issues with battery perfomance.
I'm currently testing a borrowed OEM Dynapack battery from a friend's Tilt to see if it shows the same behaviour as well to discard the possibility of a faulty unit. Note that I'm using the OEM 1A charger and leave the unit charging for several hours.
If the battery proves to be defective I'd have to get one (or contact the seller to see if he'd respond to the issue). Can someone recommend a cheap/reliable battery that could be bought online (eBay, etc.)?

Just to clarify, is the phone actually OFF, or is it in standby? If it's in standby, 10% after 8 hours wouldn't be unreasonable at all.
Uhm, it's on standby I guess (when I turn it on again it's instantaneous, not like when you soft reset the unit)...
I'm new to PDA phones, I had an IPAQ RX3715 before with WM2003SE and I could leave the unit off for days without battery drainage. However I may not be too familiarised with these new units' standby/off functioning. If in standby and with the Phone function off (meaning that the device has "nothing to do" other than being off) it's normal for the device to drain the battery so much I would be disappointed.
As a sidenote, my friend's Tilt is not draining while it's on standby being on the same conditions other than the fact that his unit has the Dynapack battery.

I have the same rom and the same problem. I was at the hospital all day i made two calls and about mid day my bat was at 30%. I think its duttys rom V3 causing the problems. Changing roms now.
I could be wrong, but I think your phone is fine, these devices just consume a lot of power. 10% over 8 hours would be totally normal in my opinion. Is that the main reason that leads you to think there is a problem with your phone? Have you ever had a pocket PC before that had better battery life? When I got my first PDA I thought the same thing, but I realized that they are not like normal cell phones, where you could just recharge once every couple of days. PDA's must be charged at least every night. If you use GPS or wi-fi a lot you're probably going to be charging sometime throughout the day as well. I just got into the habit of plugging it in every time I get into the car, and when I get home I plug it into either the computer or the wall charger. There are after market batteries available, but if you want a drastic increase in amp-hours, the battery is going to be bigger and it will require a new battery cover. This is totally unacceptable in my opinion, as the device is relatively large to begin with. My advice would be to only activate a radio if you are using it, and de-activate it when you are done. Also just get into a routine where you are charging it whenever possible. Another thing, I just flashed Dutty's V4 RTM, and I must say the increase in battery life was very noticeable. Don't let me confuse you, though. From the information you supplied, I really am not able to tell if there is a problem or not, so give some more information and examples of battery life so we can figure out if somethings wrong, or if you just aren't used to the amount of consumption of this type of device. Thanks for your thorough reply. Picking on what you mentioned, it's true that I'm new to PDA Phones, as I mentioned I also own an iPAQ rx3715 with WM2003SE and my idea was to replace it. Judging the fact that PDA-only devices, to my eyes, are nowadays dying I thought I'd get me the latest and most complete device available WITH GPS, since I was using my iPAQ together with a GPS Bluetooth Receiver with much delight.
What I experienced with my previous device was that battery performance was never an issue, it did consume power as any PDA, but I didn't find myself worrying about it, it never dropped when off and it would last me several days.
Since I'm using my Tilt with the Phone function off I _thought_ it wouldn't need any power for anything... but it might be that these new devices, or the new WM6 architecture is different to that of WM2003SE/PDA only devices... I don't know, but it just sounds strange to me, although if it's normal I'll live with it- as you say, I'll have to be charging it 1-2 times a day.
On the one hand it would be good for me to know that my device is ok, but on the other hand it means that battery life isn't even close to what I expected... I had read people complaining about it but in general I tend not to be overly critic about the defects of devices... but it seems that it's the case. I meant not to use the phone features and thus I thought it wouldn't be consuming power on standby seeing that the phone should not be running anything on background...

Just as an aside you will notice the battery life getting better after a couple weeks it seems the battery has to be conditioned so to speak. Also do you have any kind of push email on your phone as if you do that does use quite a bit of power, you might want to set it up as a pop3 account and set it to check emails every so often instead of getting them as soon as they come in.But I have amde it a habit to always use my charger whenever I am able to as these batteries seem to be happiest when topped off whenever possible.
Hello again, I'm still experiencing this problem and it seems not normal.
Simply put, I fully charge the device. I turn it off. It discharges by itself with all wireless functions off.
Today I did a hard suspend (keeping off pressed) with battery at 60%... when I turn the unit on 7 hours later the battery was at 6% with a critical warning sign.
I'm NOT using the device, I turn it on, use WiFI for 3-5 minutes then switch it off and put the device to suspend. I turn it on after a couple of hours, play with the menus and turn it off again. Just by doing that the battery drains by 10% every 5 hours or so, sometimes it won't even turn on due to battery drainage.
Is this NORMAL? I need to know if my unit or my battery is defective so I can return it to the seller in time...

Battery life DOES seem to improve with time. The first day my battery wouldn't last for 5 hours! Keep charging your battery and letting it drain as much as you can (whether or not to let it fully drain is debatable), and I bet you'll see some guaranteed performance.
Also, what would help a lot is if you found and installed the Today plugin BatteryStatus and checked the "Show More indicators" option, and see what your battery drain was. The normal is between 150mA and 300mA when you're on the Today screen. Any more than that, and you most likely have a problem, assuming connections besides phone are off.
sounds normal to me, turning off you mean by pressing the button on the right side of unit? if so, mine is the same way
I'd say that was definitely not normal performance. On average, I use mine for at least an hour worth of talk time, an hour or two running TomTom, numerous SMSs, and at least a couple of hours reading books. I charge it every night, and the battery is generally running at around 50 to 60% by that time. I'm surprised at how quickly yours is draining.
I have an RX3715 inhabiting a drawer, and, while the battery life was a lot longer on that device, the battery was a lot larger, and the screen lower quality. The fact that it is not connected to a mobile network gives the battery a much longer life too. When I used it purely for TomTom, connecting to a bluetooth receiver, the battery faded very fast.
I've had a Kaiser since day one. I have found that adding a comm manager that allows forcing the phone to Edge give huge battery savings. In standby with the phone radio On and BT radio ON, WiFi OFF, my phone drops 4% over night very consistant. On Edge battery lasts days.
The only time I get fairly high battery consumption is streaming with 3G. Edge is so much more efficient on the battery, so if you don't need the speed, throttle down!
The only time I've ever found the phone Dead or close to dead after only a few hours on standby was when I had WiFi ON and the phone in standby. I can't pinpoint what exactly causes the condition, but when it occurs, the phone is HOT and the battery heavily drained in a short time. This has happened with both Hermes and Kaiser. I never leave WiFi ON when not needed, and have never seen severe battery drain since.
I do sometimes turn off all radios except WiFi, and then use wired ear buds and stream Slingbox video to the phone over my home WiFi LAN. I can get almost 4 hours of watching on a charge.
The battery should not be draining when powered off, but not much at all when put in sleep mode. Get yourself a replacement Testing.
As an aside, Alex's WM 6.1 BETA 2 has given me the best battery life of any rom. Only about 25% of the battery drains per day. With most other roms it's 50-100% per day.
Hello, thanks to everyone for your replies. It's strange because I've been doing lots of test, switching batteries (I have 4 units to test now) and I get inconsistent results... the 2 most problematic units were bought from the same eBay seller and got their ROMs changed the first day, the 3rd unit still has the AT&T ROM and was apparently not draining as fast. The problem is that the 2 first units seem to get battery drains overnight in flight mode of 10% and 2 times one of them got a 0% critical battery status just by being in standby and not in use (none of them are working as phones and have the function off)
The odd part is that for some reason this happens only sometimes, now I've switched to Sleuth's WM6.1 ROM and the problem is gone for now, I'm still at 90% since 2 nights ago having turned on GPS and WIFI for 5 minutes each 2-3 times... the other 2 units have been in standby from 100% charge and they haven't dropped either! And they're using the AT&T ROM and Q-Mobile v1.2 respectively... what kills me is that I cannot say what's wrong, cause I've swapped batteries, swapped chargers, swapped ROMs but cannot trace which is the problem (or if there's a problem at all)...
Perhaps it's normal for the unit to sometimes drain 10% after 8 hours of standby in flight mode and on other times remain at 90% for 2-3 days if not in use...

What radios are u using. Try changing radios
10% loss overnight in standby would be normal.
Does the unit get warm when you notice rapid drain?
I wonder about the "old" active sync problem - does the device show any running programs when you turn on?
In general you should expect to get a days worth of power using it for the odd call, perhaps an hour of wifi and perhaps an hour of prgram use. Of course all taht is very variable but I generally get away with a charge once a day. Occasionally, I take it from it's holder and it's warm to touch, but usually it's 'cos I've forgotten and left something like tomtom running.

when i got this diamond phone last week the battery performance
was bad serving me with less then a day worth of power where i
had to buy a second battery.
now that i have been off from work for a few days (3 days) i finaly
had the chance to cain this phone properly eg. flipping wifi on/off
through out the day listening to shoutcast, lenghty periods trying
to setup LAN, listening music while out on the road and checking
emails, looking on the net, yapping on the phone and sending txt messages.
to my supprise the battery seem to be holding up pretty good. now it
appears to be holding out till the end of the day where before i had to
carry two batteries now i think i can get away with carrying just one.
here are my stupid questions
1, does htc batteries get better performance after multiple charges?
2, did i have a semi faulty battery and now a miracle has happend?
3, am i just dreaming that the more i use the longer the battery stays on?
today i charged the bat. at 9am (ish) and now its 3,45pm. i still have 3 bars
remaining im supprised as from before a few days ago this was not the case.
im using the daimond with no mods and standard battery.

I am going through the same thing. First day I got the phone and battery was awful about 4 hours it lasted me! very shocked. but it is holding out.
I did charge the phone initially for about 12 hours as specified but don't know if that helps.
what i tend to find with new mobiles is that you have to charge fully and then DISCHARGE FULLY the phone numerous amount of times to get it to perform to the best of its abilities. I don't think its anything to do with HTC batteries, just the fact that new batteries have never been used and need to learn!

you are half right. this battery life is improving if you keep charging it but it is not advised to fully discharge them.
the fully charged-fully discharged method was for the old batteries with "memory".
somewhere in this forum, in the trinity forum somebody experimented the two ways of charging-discharging the battery. the conclusion was that it is better to charge the battery anytime, any occasion u have.
Indeed, the battery's performances (and this is applicable to all common batteries) will increase by time until it reaches its max capabilities.
To gain performance, the battery has to discharge and charge very frequently, or better, continuously. I don't really know how the Diamond manages it (meaning if the battery is full, will the device still get power from the battery if it is plugged on, or will it drain power from the cable. It could also drain from battery if it is fully charged and charge it in the same time, or it could simply always take it from the cable and charge the battery in less time)
The reverse is also true, meaning if you don't discharge/charge your battery frequently enough, its performances will decrease by time.
Also, if your battery discharges and charges all the time, it's lifetime will be longer than a battery that is only used once in a week.
I don't know if I made it clear, lol.
By the way, don't think that if you keep charging your battery you will end up with weeks of battery, there is a limit and it is 850mAh on the stock battery, if I remember correctly.

all i know its 8:35pm and i have only used 1 bar from around 4:30
which now leave me with 2 bars. im jumping for joy because normally
by 6pm ish the battery would have already died.
with all the hammering today i cant believe it only took 2 bars in nearly
12 hours and thats with no extra charge from the psu and only 5 usb
connections to the pc to sync and add files totaling 2 - 5 minutes
on each connection.
now i can officially say this phone is "DA BOMB"

The thing that kills the battery on this phone above everything else is the GPS - knocks it out in 90minutes or less. If you were having fun (even for a few minutes) with it in your first few days, this might explain it...

yeha that would explain it but the thing is I haven't even installed TomTom or any other GPS related app!!! weird. but i've had it for about 4 days now and battery does seem to improve slightly on a daily basis.
I have a strange problem when i reboot my diamond it looses 25-30% of the battery power. Anyone experienced this or have any solutions?
I heard someone put their battery in a freezer when they became sluggish. But i'm afraid to destroy the battery. Anyone tried this "solution" ?

I have gotten used to the short battery life and have made it a good habbit of turning off bluetooth when i dont use it and i never use Wifi (its unuasble due to how fast it drains the battery. I hope i can soon afford a larger battery. 1800mPa isnt it?
But whats up with a reboot taking so much power? It didnt use to be like this, it started doing so some time ago.
Anyway i know a dude who puts camera batteries in freezer and he says it helps them. But i dont feel comfortable doing it yet until i hear more from people having done so with success.
I suggest a hard reset. Sometimes the calibration goes all awry; the battery isn't empty but the meter shows it to be empty, the phone thinks it's empty and shuts down. It's a software issue. Had this problem several times. The freezer never worked for me (did no harm, either).
Hmm... a hard reset, i will loose all those tons of settings i have and loads of programs installed ( No other solutions around? I will rather live with the problem than do a hard reset (tired of setting up everything from scratch)
The battery isn't losing power after a soft-reset, it's just that the battery meter gets re-calibrated. It's likely that the meter was reading too high before the reset and then started reading correctly afterwards - but I could be wrong. Battery meters are not an exact science. I'm not sure a hard reset will help but it can't hurt. I wouldn't bother personally.
Li-ion batteries should not be frozen. Putting the battery in a cool place will help a little, in that while the battery is cold, its 'aging' will slow. It will start to deteriorate (lose capacity permanently) at a normal rate when it warms up again.

I wouldnt suggest putting you battery in the freezer lol electronics and water wether frozen or not dont tend to mix lol
All these freezer tricks can only damage your battery. I think these tricks come from age of old Ni-something batteries, not the Li-something era.

Yeah, there's a lot of nonsense written about the wrong kind of batteries.
Re-reading that Wiki link, it looks like the way to fix the battery meter problem is to occasionally run the battery low. Also, the freezer won't damage the battery (unless it goes below -40 C) but the moisture might.
Thanks all for all the usefull info. Didnt know these batteries were killed so fasted. Because, comeon, who would really bother pulling out the battery of your device all the time and putting it in a refrigerator
I'm having the same problem with my TD, everytime I reset the device it looses anywhere between 10-30% charge.
Hard reset didn't fix the problem. has anyone find out what is wrong? could it be the phone???

My Diamond is a Brazil´s version (HSDPA 850 and 2100 mhz) and came with a 1340 mha. The first time i´ve used, it leasts 1 day. Then it took 12 hours to charge at 100%. I was worried with it but the second time it leasts 2 days and now it´s leasting 3 days with 1 hour of call per day and some time of internet, youtube, music... And the charging time is up to 3 hours now.
Maybe if you let your battery down to almost 0% and then charge it to 100%, the device would calibrate the battery meter.
Soft reseting the diamond will definitely suck some of your battery power. Remember it has to reload Windows, all the software, etc. I usually lose 5% but it could be as high as 10-15% in some situations.
20-30% seems a little high, but the general rule is, don't reset your diamond unless you absolutely need to, unless you're at home with the charger nearby.

This is my second post here...but I really felt like I had to take attitude this time and actually do something.
So my samsung galaxy s3 is acting so weird that I can't use it without something bad happening for one day.
So...first of all...my battery doesn't last more than four hours straight if, for example, I am listening to music.
It literally goes down about 1% every few minutes.
Also..there is something really weird happening with my battery even after it completely shuts down. Lets's say I am on 1% and the phone shuts off. After the screen goes black and I plug it in...the charging screen appears and the battery seems to be half charged. I open the phone again and it is already at 45%. All this operation takes a matter of seconds...but still it goes from 1% to 45%. After the phone is up...this percentage starts to go down even faster than before...in the end my phone shuts down again...and this time it starts to charge from 0%.
Today it shut off...and when I got home and plugged in the charger it didn't do anything...i just left it like that for about 10 minutes then tried to power it on without the charger being plugged in...and it worked. After that it started to charge. I have no ideea what is happening.
Also...my charging time is really big. I do not know why but when I use another charger from a samsung galaxy mini 2 it seems to charge way faster.
That's pretty much all so far. If you need more details, please let me know.

1.Might be the battery is dead or broken, or its not calibrated. How old is the phone and battery?
2. It seems to take ages to charge my s3 lte too, give us a number in hours how much time you need?
3. The problem where phone wont turn on or show charging when battery is as low as 1%, i had this too, i think its normal, its protecting the battery
4. Do you have overcloacked anything? It happend to me when i had ovecloaced and did benchamark test, the phone froze and battery eas 5% when i restarted the phone, but before it was 45.

if you are running stock rom with no rooting no anything....100% it's the battery.
if not install stock and see how it goes...if it's acting normal then the mods are the problem...if it's the same it's the battery.
Do a factory data reset on stock recovery. See how that works out first
Starting from factory reset is bad idea - it should be the last step IMHO.
First what in such case we need to check is battery health.
Percentage we see on our phone is weak indicator, because it is calculated
Better to see the voltage in different situations. How to check this (terminal app or adb in console):
cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/voltage_now
The lowest voltage that device can handle without heavy usage is less than 3500mV (I saw even 3240mV, but with low brightness, no data connection and after trying to make a call phone turned off).
The maximum voltage is obout 4300mV.
When You see 1% of battery and voltage is realy close to 3500mV or battery is charged and voltage after removing charge is dropping realy fast to then your battery very likely need to be replaced.
I bought Samsung Extended Battery (3000mAh) and this tripled the time usage than my 2 years old normal battery 2100mAh. You can see that difference in their capacity is much smaller - about 43% biger, but give me 300% much time on battery so old one was realy worn out.
BUT if your battery wasnt used for longer than half year, you can do as follows:
1. Discharge battery
2. When phone turns off - turn it on again, but into download mode (Home-VolumeDown-Power)
3. Leave phone for as long as it turns off again and repeat step 2 till time that Download Mode wont even boot.
4. Take off battery and place it back, and again try point 2 (start Download Mode) - do it until phone will show Download Mode for only 2-3 secconds
5. Again and last time replace battery and charge phone, but turned off
6. When phone will be charged, turn it on and leave it on charger for about one hour
After those steps use your phone lightly and try to repeat whole process one more time but only when the battery will normaly discharge and phone will turn off.
I tried those steps and battery for sure can work longer FOR ONE RUN, but unfortunately it can lead to loss of capacity much faster, but it will be noticable after one year - IMHO its always good time to buy new battery.

6. When phone will be charged, turn it on and leave it on charger for about one hour
After those steps use your phone lightly and try to repeat whole process one more time but only when the battery will normaly discharge and phone will turn off.
I tried those steps and battery for sure can work longer FOR ONE RUN, but unfortunately it can lead to loss of capacity much faster, but it will be noticable after one year - IMHO its always good time to buy new battery.

Nothing good will come from that procedure. Those steps were useful in the epoch of nickel-cadmium batteries, where the battery had no internal circuits to monitor itself and had a tendecy to uncalibrate. Those stops would force the device and the battery to re-adapt to one another.
But now we're using Li-Ion batteries, and those DO NOT like to be fully discharged. Hell, the device might not even recognize the battery, if it has really been fully discharged.

Okay...so I went to the shop from where I bought my s3 (Orange shop) And they told me to send it to their service and I did so...as I still had it under warranty. It was there for exactly a week and today I got it back. They told me they replaced the battery (which they actually did...I checked that) and the power connector from my phone. The battery it's still not good enaugh in my opinion. Immediately after I got it back...I turned it on and it had 79% battery. In about an hour it went down about 25% (so to 54%) but I didn't used it havely (note: the mobile data option was on). I really do not know what to do. I asked someone and they told me to send it again because this is not normal.
My s3 is running stock 4.3 and used to last waay longer back in the day.
What should I do? I literally got about max 5 hours of use before I sent it and I am afraid this will happen again. I do not even want to think what is going to happen if I listen to music for example.
I turned the phone off a few hours ago...then let it charge up to 59% and then stopped because I had to leave. I used it moderately for about 4 hours and 51 minutes (as my phone says) and i have about 2h and 15minutes of screen on time. My screen is using 50% of the battery and also Android system is using about 17%...chrome 12% Android OS 7% and I think everything else is less important as they use 7%<. After those almost 5 hours...while the mobile data option was on all the time I am at 14% battery.
What do you think? Is it good enaugh? Should I send it back? I really need help!

I think so, the fact that you have the screen on top of Android OS (and not the other way around) pleases me. You had your screen on for 2h15m, of course your battery went down fast
Test it, charge it full, and use it. Normally.
Do this for 2 or 3 days, and check how the battery lasts
I need help, Since the last month, my Xperia z1 keeps turning off at 60-50 % battery. When i turn it back on without a charger plugged in it's at 1%, but when i et it charge for 2 minutes, its back at around 60 percent. Sometimes it won't charge, charge very slowly or even drop 20%.

Your battery is dying... You need to go to a service for a battery change because this one is at the end of its life [emoji52]
I had the same problem. I changed my battery and the problem is GONE.
Since Z1 has a non-removable battery, how much do you guys pay for the battery repair ? does it co$t a lot?

I had the same problem I have to try everything. Finally I have to change battery and everything works again as before. I have had this problem since the transition. kitkat of a lollipop
what the heck do you mean by you charge the battery and the problem is gone? The problem is the phone can't survive long without charging - you can't just charge it all day long. I know because my battery has become so bad that my phone can die at 95% (and same as op, become 1% and then jump up to 100% quickly). It used to do that only when I do intensive tasks like Chrome and camera, but now it just do that for no reason. Thought it was a software thing so I was excited to get back onto XDA after several years - but got very disappointed afterwards. Here in Sweden swapping a battery costs something like $88, which isn't quite worth it considering I'm prolonging a two-year-old phone's lifespan, so I'm giving up and probably heading for the Oneplus 2 instead. So long Sony...
