Hello,
I plane on root my nexus one, I had it since its release and now I see some limits with my unrooted phone. But before that I would like to backup everything and when I think backup of a computer, I think image (acronis, ghost, wim, etc.) but is it possible to do the same with my phone ? Even if it is still not rooted ? If not, how should I backup it ?
Best regards,
rXp>!<
You have to root before you can take an image (called a NAND backup)
Ok thanks, so how do you think I should backup ? Copy/past of my SDCARD ?

Install ROM Manager from the market and use it's backup feature.
Still need rooted phone it says. :/ I need a unrooted phone backup technique first.

No way to do it unless you are rooted, or have an unlocked bootloader.

Is there any rooting method that doesn't do the factory reset?
I am asking cause factory reset messed up the secure element of my last phone.
Thanks for the walk through. Took 2 or 3 tries, but I got it rooted.

No a factory reset must be done. That it is why it's better to root your phone right after you get it in the mail.
I've just added this guide to the Nexus 4 Complete Index

You will get notified when you have an OTA update available but when you try to update your phone it will not work. So...no.
Just to be clear this only adds root to stock rom right and doesn't delete it? Is there a way to make a complete backup before rooting as that deletes all data?

Yes, this will root your stock ROM. And no, there isn't anyway as far as I know. Root is needed to make a complete backup.
Okay thanks thats fine as long as I can backup the stock rom I'm happy

That's interesting.... So basically the root of N4 WILL PREVENT many future upgrade?
I rooted my Nexus 7 and use an app called Voodoo OTA RootKeeper from Google Play to protect the root. When OTA update comes, I updates my N7, lose root, use the app, root back. Done this for 4.2 and 4.2.1.

hello i have searched all over the internet for a HTC One UK Three RUU, but couldnt find anything.
but i have found a nandroid backup on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207874&nocache=1
however, i do not know how to use it
can somebody tell me step by step instructions on how to unroot using this backup please and thank you in advance
I just downloaded the nand backup to my pc, put onto my phone's sd at the root of it, then used Rom manager to flash it, after installing you will need to install the lost apps package found in the one android dev section, once done I did my own nand backup without root so I had my own backup

Hi, I am in the same boat here. No luck finding an RUU for three UK but have found the nandroid back up. If I use this back up will this unroot and get me back to how my phone was when purchased. As this is what I wish to achieve. Complete Noob. Switched from jailbreaking.

Doing a Nandroid backup should take away root as long as you don't install it through TWRP or CWM (they have an option when you go to reboot and it gets in the way)

Ok cool. Appreciate that. So how do I go about not installing through Cwm or twrp. Is that as described in the earlier posts? Also it mentions the lost apps package can you shed light on this for me too? All help appreciated greatly.
Hello guys, I am writing because I need some advice. Since HTC has abandoned this smartphone, I decided to root it to my girlfriend and install a custom rom updated. The only major problem is that of data of the app: my girlfriend plays a lot with smartphone and would not want to lose the progress made ββin all these games. I would then do a backup with titanium, but unfortunately only works with the root. So I wanted to know if there is a method to rootare the phone leaving all data intact and original ROM, in order to make a backup with titanium and then install the new custom rom. If so, how? Thank you very much!
Rooting won't lose any data or apps. You can go ahead and root it first, then use titanium backup. =)
you are sure? I have to make the unlock of the bootloader ...

Hi,
I have stock 4.2.2 with 6.0.3 Recovery (dual CWM with TWRAP),
If I backup or restore nandroid from CWM recovery it takes about 30-50 minutes..
If I backup from app (Nandroid Manager), it backup in less than 10 minutes (like it was in my old phone - HTC DHD).
Is it normal? I mean the backup file is larger than what I had in my old HTC (2.5GB compare to less than 1GB), but it seems to transfor each file so slowly.. (it transform about 1.3 files in a second..)
Perhaps there is a better recovery I could flash so the performance would get improven?
If so please recommend one. and can I flash it on stock ROM?
Thanks!
Jordan.

you just need to enable that option, there is no "official" release for our device but that setting applies.
Hi there. I've recently purchased a Cherry Mobile One G1. I'm planning to root it so I can modify bootloader, bootlogo & flash some system files(e.g. Pixel Experience). But I want to make sure that I can return back to stock if something goes wrong and also apply if I can't install the OTA. Is the nandroid backup will work on this? TWRP recovery backup? Any successful methods?

Yes I think!
You can Reflash stock rom!
And dunno about twrp method, that method may also works, but I don't own the device so that I can't tell you exactly...
