Boost Mobile Data and MMS setting through EPST? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I erased my custom data settings for boost in epst, I hit restore by accident and now I have no data, Any way to set that all back up, username password, shared secret, etc!!???
Nevermind, Did a nandroid restore and got everything.

hey i had the same exact problem only i didnt have a nandroid back up..r there any settings u can share to help???

when u hit restore your phone will reboot then go to the home screen wait a sec and it should pop up say hands free activation in progress let it finish and it should reboot. once it reboots go to settings about phone software updates and update your profile.
if the hands free activations fails reboot your phone and try again.
as for mms and sms settings go to data settings and change your accolic number to 1 thatll give your phone priority on sending/receiving texts/ calls over everyone else.
just never change it to 0 because thats reserved for emergency services and youll probably be getting notices from the fcca lol.
if u change the number anything higher than 2 youll be behind everyone else.

damn it i just realized this thread was a year old stupid noobs do you realize how many threads not only on xda but google about this come on ppl use the freakin search button.

Stupid moons?? Relax I wouldn't be replying to a yr old post if all other searches didn't fail..so far I found nothing dat helped n I've been searching Google Bing n all forums I can find n had no luck

true indeed, lol

and do you know how many searches yield results of threads just like this one, people just telling others to search and putting them down. can't say how many times I've done a search for something and it just comes up with someone asking the question I'm wondering and others just saying to use search.
USE SEARCH, so you can find threads of others asking the question you have and others telling THEM to use search. Now tell me that's not moronic and stupid.

Logging program

Is there any program available that could sort of be used as a keylogger? Today a friend took my phone and texted someone but deleted the Sent message then deleted the text from the Deleted Items folder. I know it's too late to find out what he sent but I want something for the future. I also want to know if there is anything that would log general activity of the phone like programs being opened, what was looked at, etc etc.
Thanks.
So you basically want to be nosy and read what text your "friend" sent. You're a good friend. How about some privacy geez. If he deleted it obviously he didn't want you to read it. Don't worry it wasn't a virus..lol...this post is sad.

I'm not necessarily being nosy, I just want to know what HE sent from MY phone. But besides from the text, I still want to know if there is any logging program to monitor what my device does.
Well If you are worried about what he sent from YOUR phone. Don't let anyone use your phone.

You don't always get a choice.
If you are an O2 UK customer (it doesn't say on your profile), there's something called bluebook ( http://bluebook.o2.co.uk ) which keeps copies of every SMS and MMS you send and recieve. I use it to keep copies of stuff in case my phone breaks and I wrote a PHP script that page scrapes so I can do SMS & MMS to web... but I guess you can use it to see what other people send from your phone if it is a persistent problem.
Bluebook is free and was free to sign up if you joined during the beta. It might now cost £5 to sign up if it is out of beta.
If you are not with O2 UK, you might find your service provider has something similar.
Hope that helps.

[Q]Google talk layout on Galaxy S

Im having problems with Google Talk on my phone.
Normally, if u start a chat. and the other person is talking back, u should see the txt under your own txt. But i only see it as a balloon in my top-tray of the phone and do not see the txt written by the other person in the chat overview.
Anyone knows how to solve this?

My gf and I also have Galaxy S phones. Her device is running on I9000XXJFB firmware, mine is on I9000XWJM2. Shes having kinda like the same problem with GTalk: the screen is splitted to 2 sides (top&bottom), instead of how mine works (the good old conversation-look, when A-B-A-B persons messages follow each other).
Maybe its firmware-dependent? I did not find any option to change the layout in the settings menu.
Firmware is probably a good bet. If you want to hold off, have you tested to see what happens if you turn the setting balloon top-tray setting off? Would you see nothing at all? Or would it populate the message how it should.
You probably want the best of both worlds, it's worth a quick test if you have any reason to delay upgrading firmware.
disabling the notification button in the toptray would be a bummer anyway because then i wouldnt be notified if somebody is messaging me.
i downloaded a beta version of Hi GTalk from the market. which is working as it should work so i guess my problem isnt solved with Talk it self, but with installing an alternative app.
i think you'd still receive the sound notification. As long as you are going an alternative app route, i'd. consider uninstalling and reinstalling GTalk, it might just be corrupted.
good point. i will uninstall it and reinstall.
[edit] hehe i cant uninstall it. its "in the factoryrom" so i see. i dont see it at the installed programs list..?
gtalk still problem
Hi, I have the same problem with gtalk, also after upgrade to Froyo any ideas ?
solution
Solution:
Change time zone to the right location unbelievable, but it works !!! layout is dependent on internal time zone.
Good luck

Amazon Android App Market won't let you sign in fix.

Ok, this worked for my on both my MyTouch 4G and My T-mobile Samsung Galaxy tablet. First off go to http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011 with is the site where you download the app from. Click on your name and go to your account settings. Somewhere on there will have a list of devices that you've used to sign into that app store with. Even if it's the same device, it comes up again or if you change roms it comes up as something else, there is an option below each one to deactivate it. When you click deactivate device, it will disappear within about 15 seconds. Do so with each one. I had about 20. I deleted every single one of them. Then I sent the email to my phone and tablet to download the amazon app store again and I installed it on both devices, and they both work fine now. I know these directions were kinda vague, it's because when I went back to look where it was that you see all of your devices and I've already deleted it. So look around in account settings and on the page where you enter a phone number or E-Mail, it sends the link too download it. It worked great for me, If someone else can do this and explain it better than me, feel free, any other questions, I'll try and help the best I can, [email protected] .
So basically go to that site on the link that I provided at the beginning of the post. Find where all your devices are stored, it's on the right side, click the button that says deactivate device below it, and it about 15 seconds it will disappear. Now delete EVERY one of them. All of them. Then put in your phone number or Gmail address then re-download the app-store then you should be able to sign in fine, let me know how it works and if someone can explain this better than me please do,
again I hope this helps, It should work on all devices,
Knotrkr
I hope that helps you guys out,
Patrick.
This worked for me, and I just went into application settings, did a force stop, clear cache, and wipe data. Then re-started amazon app store, signed back in, and it is working fine again.
just open all your lines and it will work..

thanks again!
Thank You Patrick!!!!
OMG! This has been driving my crazy! I even sent an email to amazon- they couldn't help. A simple general google search brought up your thread Patrick and it was a great fix My work around was just reinstalling the old data from titanium backup. But on my new galaxy nexus I didn't have any backups for it. Your fix Worked like a charm! I am a happy camper thanks to you Patrick. :victory:
Did I say thank you???

[Q] SMS problem

hi guy's long time lurker first time poster...
i'm having a problem with all sms sending 'failing' when ever i've got packet data turned on. its not something i've ever come across on any of my previous devices... any nudge in the right direction will be very welcomed.
p.s i'm on t-mobile uk if that make any difference.
Thanks in advance
john
check your APN settings and MMS settings.
They are sharing the same apn, but i've been playing with the setting (all know variations) but still every time i use packet data it will always fail to send any sms's.
It's becoming very annoying to have to manually connect every time i want to use some data.

Hey!
Just ask from you mobile provider, what must be your APN settings. In 2.3.4 you must ALWAYS put the APN settings manually. If you added them, save and pick it. ALL DONE!
CHEERS!
thanks i'll give it ago, was just using the setting they sent me over the air and already in sim card, will input manually when i get home, and let you know.
Thanks again for the help.
Edit: no this didn't work either, now im really peeved(lol). can't for the life of me think what else it could be. would flashing the wrong modem file cause this? as its all i can think that is left to try....

Hey!
THX man, but you not need to thank always(thx anyway ). If you dont get you problem fixed, you can try others STOCK firmwares. Sometimes it takes a lot of flashing, but it can help sometimes too.
CHEERS!
yeah flashing to 2.2.1 fixed it but i want to use FirstUA-ROM-v1.2 do you think theres a way round it?
p.s i always thank those that try to help me.
Same issue
I have the same problem, bud.
Updated my Ace to Gingerbread and found I couldn't send SMS with Packet Data turned on. Turn it off and SMS sends OK. I'm with Virgin (UK) which I believe is the same network as T-Mobile.
Re-flashed Froyo and all works as it used to. After that, I fired up Kies as I hoped to get an official version that way and sure enough it said there was a firmware update available so I installed that. Turned out to be the official Samsung Gingerbread and yet again i broke SMS when Packet Data was turned on.
I'm back to Froyo once more and have emailed Virgin to ask if they can offer any advice. I notice another report of this issue on another forum where the guy called Virgin and was apparently told the fault seemed to be with VM.
Sorry this doesn't provide an answer but thought it worth corroborating your symptoms.
Cheers!
Use fla.sh rom instead. Its very stable and fast . Multi csc too.

Big thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one with the problem(thought i was loosing my mind, lol)
actually the phone was a virgin locked phone but was unlock to all networks by them for me... maybe something i can look into.
p.s flashing fla.sh didn't fix it either..
I am having this same issue using stock 2.3.3.
I bought my ace factory unlocked using it on orange. Sometimes sms will send, but majority of time it will fail until I disable packet data.
I tend to email or use gtalk/kik for messages but the odd time I want sms this gets annoying.
Oddly I never had this problem on the 2.3.4 I tried from samsfirmware.
Got the same problem. Using 3, and they just gave me a new SIM-card. Gotta finde some clever way of disabling data every time I open Messaging
yeah im looking for a way of re enabling the option in the extended power menu but with out much luck, all the modded ones seem to leave it out.

Okay, gonna try to explain it.
1. Go to /system/app and rename Mms.apk to Mms.apk.bak
2. Install the attached Mms.apk (It's from CM6)
3. Download AutomateIt from the Android Market (Just the free one)
4. Open it and add a rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should not be marked.
5. Save it and add a new rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is NOT marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should BE marked. Save this one, and you are done!
This will disable Mobile Data every time you open your Texts, and enable it then you exit your texts. The reason you need the CM6 Messaging-app, is that this tricks doesn't work with the original Samsung-app

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

Can Not Thank You Enough! I could not figure out how to get that to stop to save me and my OCD couldn't take anymore of those notifications as it was always about my chosen text app. Turning off all didn't work why I didn't think to try just the one is beyond me.
