So a buddy sent me his N1 that had been stuck in a boot loop. I asked him to give me the details of what the phone had been through. Of course he didn't know squat! I assume it's a European version (he's in the Philippines).
When I got the N1 it didn't boot to recovery but it did boot to bootloader. I was finally able to flash Aman_RA recovery thru adb. Now I can boot into recovery. I've tried flashing 3 different roms (all MD5 checks pass) but the N1 one shoots out different errors for each ROM. For ex. Missing wallpaper/desire.jpg or some other weird error.
I've been searching for 2 weeks. When I enter bootloader mode and hboot, the device looks for a PASSDIAG.zip. I dl a stock image from the developer.htc site and renamed it to PASSDIAG.zip. If finds it but then gives error about missing PASSDIAG.nbh or image not being the right one.
If I use adb to wipe the cache (in bootloader mode) it works fine, but when I try to wipe userdata I get the "FAILED" to wipe error. Fastboot windows-devices gives me HTCxxxxxxxx so i know it communicates. And i was able to flash recovery twice. No problems .
EDIT: IF YOU NOTICE IN THE SECOND IMAGE THE BLUE STATUS BAR SHOWS UP AND GOES TO THE TOP AS IF IT ACTUALLY WAS DOING SOMETHING
I tried to flash an image using fastboot and adb (flash userdata userdata.img ) but it just hangs for ever.
I just can't flash an Os on this thing. Trully, bricked me thinks?
How do I know what original build should be on it? As I read to flash an original recovery. I can only get the Aman_RA to flash.
Someone mentioned to get ahold of the stock build for EPF30. How in the world do they know that. I sure as hell can't find it...lol. Everything in google search points me to everything but that build.
Thanks in advanced.
Go to Wiki, link in my signature.
Install Amon_Ra's latest recovery.
Go to Stock ROM section and download the only Eclair ROM it has there, the first one.
Go to Guides, look at "unroot/restore", PASSIMG.ZIP method. Execute.
If it doesn't flash the PASSIMG - post the error it gives.
If it does and you're on Eclair - congratulations, work your way from there.
I see 26 images. I assume this one is it "Passion-EPE54B.zip"? Seeing as the first one is ATT. Thank you for pointing me to this wiki. Can't wait to try it.
Did you try selecting clear storage?
@ SiN Well, it's weird. In recovery I can wipe storage, cache and dalvic cache. I wiped everything that could be wiped. And still got errors on any rom I tried.
So in fastboot adb I tried
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
and I get an error FAILED. But when I do
Code:
fastboot erase cache
it says OK!
I'm gonna try what Jack suggest right now....I will post update in a few hours? LOL, I'm @ work and will try to get this to work from these PCs
The passimg you used, it wasn't a zip within a zip was it? That can cause the blue bar thing.
So the .zip I used was the second from the top in the stock rom wiki. I think EPF45, and I get an error. I renamed it to PASSIMG.zip (made sure its not a zip of a zip) and got the red status bar. One error...."cannot unzzip .zip" see picture. Now I get static x screen that turns to pixelated dust. LOL...almost there. I guess its a rom region thing?

Ok let me tell you if u have the same problem than do as the steps..
i had this problem after googling long time i found this solution ..
1st check ur hboot 0.33 or 0.35??
my hboot is 0.35.0017 and i am on froyo 2.2 stock is FRF91.
just download the PASSIMG for FRF91 from
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...on_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91_release_signed.zip
after download rename it "PASSIMG.zip" than put it on root of sd card..(formatted by fat32)
now put phone is bootloader mode by pressing vol up + power button
than fastboot verifies passimg file and ask you to flash this rom
now press vol up (yes)
than wait for 5 min to flash this rom on ur nexus one..
reboot and wait for 5min and it and done...
if u still not boot normal than again go to boot mode
select recovery
when u see trangle logo and android than press vol up +power buttong
than recovery menu show up
than wipe user data
and wie user catche
reboot
done..

Have you tried booting into recovery? Power+volume down...
Did you try to boot without the SD card? It helped me once.
Assuming you are running a custom recovery image, go to it via the bootloader menu (Turn phone on while holding volume down, then navigate to recovery using the volume buttons and selecting recovery using the power button). You should then be able to flash the same ROM you currently have installed. If however this is a completely stock device then you could run PASSIMG.zip via the bootloader to save your current install. If you need more info just ask

If you can flash a rom use 2.1.1 not 2.1. Assume you are doing that thru fastboot from pc.
Also, try the 3 finger reboot to get to recovery.
Hold down pwr/vol-/trackball at sametime until phone boots into bootloader, then navigate to recovery option. Then wipe all and restore a good bu. If this happened while dl'ing apps, one may be bad. Get all of them off phone and do one at a time.

Ok, understand now.
You may have some options thru fastboot and the pc. Do you have SDK installed on pc. I am not good at that, someone else may have suggestions along those lines. Unless, as I asked, you already have used that method to flash amon ra 2.1.
If you can thru fastbboot with SDK I would still flash amon 2.1.1

Sounds like you are using SDK, it may be the way to wipe and get back to an original phone state, then reupgrade. I don't know sdk very well.
Did you try the other idea of trying to get to recovery with sd card out of phone. If you do that you may want to back it up while out of phone if you have a sd card reader
Good Luck and wait for more help

Where can i find fastboot instructions?
Guys,
I'm losing my mind here.
I've tried to install the CyanogenMod but I've run into some problems.
Why is it so damn difficult to install this?
I've spent 4 hours following different guides and none of them are step by step.
The ones that come close, never mention possible issues along the way which you then have to find on other forums.
Anyway,
can someone please help me with the following:
I'm getting stuck on booting into recovery.
I run the command and the phone reboots. however, it then presents a Triangle and an exclamation mark!
The instruction show that I am supposed to see a Green text recovery screen.
I'm having to hit the up volume and power button, which gives a blue text recovery screen with limited options.
I've tried the Amon_Ra's Recovery process and the ClockworkMod Recovery process to no avail!!!
I also tried the rom manager but the app keep giving "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands"
I know it's something that I'm doing wrong but I'm very close to throwing this phone out the window and going back to an iphone... This is just not ****ing worth it.
I've done everything up to reboot to recovery part from this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide

mhhh ok. So you probably have no insecure boot image. That's probably why you can't flash any recovery from RomManager....
Try this at MoDaCo. Download an unsecure boot image... And try again.

Hi guys,
I have a few problems with my Motorola Milestone.
1. I can't get in to recovery. I only get an black screen (backlight is on)
2. I don't get any video in the bootloader. but RSD lite does recognizes it, and is able to flash it. When it's flashing I do get video only stating that there is software update busy.
3. When I boot up my phone I don’t get, a Motorola logo, but just a black screen (back light on) followed by the Android logo after a few minutes.
4. If I try to wake up the phone, the screen remains black, but the hardware keys to light up, I have to press the lock button multiple times to activate the screen. - Note when the screen remains black, it is responsive and I can unlock the phone, but it still remains black. And sometimes the colors are inverted, but when i make a screen of it with Screen Grabber (shoot me) it's in normal colors.
That kind of sums it up.
I have tried a few things to fix it. I have:
1. Cleared caches, and personal data
2. Flashed a different SBF en recovery
And since I can’t get in to recovery, I had to get Root via Z4 Root method and it works fine.
Afterwards I downloaden Rom-manger, and installed the ClockWork recovery, and tried to boot in Recovery via clockwork, but that didn’t work either. I also can’t get in to Recovery via a cold boot
I think the problems started when I was using CyanogenMod 7 RC4. It worked just fine, but after I installed it I couldn't get in to recovery.
Can I try something else to fix it? or should I flash it back to original state and RMA it?
Edit some additional information:
Frimware: 2.2.1
Frimware configuration: GAS_EMEA_UCAMS1FRYOQWRTEU_P005
Baseband version: 3GSMPU91A_U_91.09.00I

Kernel Versuin: 2.6.32.9-ge635aa4 [email protected]#1
Build Number: SHOLS_U2_05.06.0
And is it possible to restore the orginal boot animation, without recovery?
TL.DR: Motorola Milestone --> CyanogenMod 7 RC4 --> no recovery & no video @ bootloader, plus additinal video problems --> back to orginal --> same problems.
BUMP: is there anyone with a possible soulution?

I don't think you bricked it... but damaged it in some way.
Could also be some hardware related stuff in the end.
Anyway try to wipe everything, that could be wiped.
Start into bootloader and try to install G.O.T. 2.2.1 using RSD again.
This one got the vulnerable recovery already integrated.
Then try to use the specific G.O.T. OpenRecovery on your sdcard to check system integrity.
Please try to take care of every single step and check out what happens....
If your hardware is doing fine, i'm pretty sure that you will get a working phone again.
P.S.: How about your bootloader version?
Good luck,

My last guess is, that something might be wrong with your vulnerable recovery sbf file (file corruption ???). There should have been some errors during flash...

I was just looking at QtADB for somebody else's problem but it looks like you can use QtADB to boot recovery if the phone is recognized.

This is standard error, if vulnerable recovery is not installed and you try to start OpenRecovery.
This is strange behaviour...
My last guess is, that something might be wrong with your vulnerable recovery sbf file (file corruption ???). There should have been some errors during flash...
Anyway, you might grab it here and try again:

Good luck!

Sorry for being confusing, it was after flashing vulnerable recovery, but my I'm flashing with a different system now and it working just fine.
If I try the .sbf you provided RSD gives a error "Failed flashing process. failed flashing process (0x17100);phone connected"

1. Rooted
2. Don't think I had USB Debugging on prior to this situation
3. Didn't flash a rom (dont even know how)
4. don't have clockworkmod
I installed the root required app LCD density changer by beansoft... tried permanently changing my lcd density (resolution) to 200, looked back at phone several minutes later and it was stuck on the at&t logo. I didn't do a backup like they said, in case anything goes wrong (didn't expect anything to go wrong.........). Now, everytime I try to boot my phone, i get stuck at the At&t logo screen (NOT infinite loop... just frozen logo). I have tried factory reset multiple times... but ofcourse that didn't work because that doesn't affect system preferences ( like the density/resolution).
Beansoft suggests this to fix the issue... but i can't get it to work
densitychanger.blogspot.(com) (towards the bottom, where the highlighted green text is)...
How can i get that file onto my phone's memory? My phone wont even turn on. I tried putting it on the microsd card, but the file doesnt show up in recovery.
Someone please help me... I just want my phone working again... By whatever means... Flashing a new rom, the update.zip method by beansoft... idk ... just want it working...
HELP :'(
P.S. I dunno how to work adb... every time i try and use it, i get the "device not found" thing... ( i have the drivers installed)... So if that's how I have to fix my phone... PLEASE be very descriptive in instructions....

the 200 dpi setting does not work on the Thrill, which is why you are stuck in "bootloop"

Well looks like you're kinda screwed since you don't have clockwork installed, I'm not sure if you can install a new ROM... but have you tried EVERYTHING in android recovery?
If you don't know how to get to recovery... it's Hold down volume key + 3d + power, until it vibrates then use arrow keys to move around and 3d to select if you dont have clockwork...

Do you havet the emergency mode like most LG smartphones? Here is how you check pull out the battery and the plug it in(so your phone turns off) and then hold down the volume up +voulume down and power button if it worked you should see a yellow screen and a "Emergency mode!!" title. Then google for a kdz update tool and a kdz firmware for YOUR phone. You will also need the LG mobile united drivers. If you are on windows go to control panel and disable the lg modem. Then connect your phone(in emergency mode) to the computer open the update tool then click on select KDZ and navigate to your KDZ then in phone mode select emergency_something iys the only one.Than click flash KDZ and after about 5min your phone should reboot and it wilk work. Its importiant to note that you will lose everything on your phones memory its like you flash a rom you start out fresh you also loose root.Good luck!

Dont be sorry im just trying to help ya out our device has zero support from LG. When you select the files to flash use both the .bin and fls to flash you gotta find the P925.dll i think its in the dev forum here i dont remember which post though
Thrill 4g on O3D
Try the installing gingerbread and back to stock thread i think its in the mediafire download on there
Thrill 4g on O3D
I don't think i have the emergency download mode... I tried the button combination but it didn't work... so I still can't get my computer to recognize my phone to do anything...
Or try flashing a kdz for p920 then do the bin flash to get it back to stock froyo cuz you have to install the driver with phone pluged in and recognized

Im having the same problem as the person before me, but my phone is stuck on the lg logo screen. My phone is rooted and I do believe I have installed clockworkmod when root manager asked me to. My phone froze on me while going through the root manager app, when I tried formatting it through the reboot screen I ended up with E: can't mount CACHE:recovery/ command, E: can't mount CACHE:recovery/log, and E: can't open CACHE:recovery/log.
I've tried following instuctions from this site: http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flash-lg-thrill-4g-to-android-2-3-gingerbread.html
Until the last one cause i don't have an option to instal stuff from my sd card
I've also tried this one: http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270832
but again I have no option of the sd card or running abd commands
only options i have are:
reboot system now
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe cache partition and package recovery
wipe nv dynamic partition

You don't have clockwork then. That is your stock recovery.I had this problem too.I flashed the wrong recovery and i got stuck on the LG logo.I fixed it using fastboot flasher idk is it the same combination but on my phone it is volume up+call+power button.Uf it is correct you should see a sign saying fastboot mode udc_start or something like that then use the fastboot flasher to flash a recovery image for your phone. After the flash is complete reboot your phone but first do a NORMAL boot so you can see if the problem is solved. If it worked then you can safely boot into recovery.

Thank you for your support guys, but as it was to difficult, I just got a new one from at&t
I am in similar situation but I am rooted AND I have CWM on my phone. I can boot into recovery just fine and install from sd card and all that jazz but when I try to boot normally I don't get past the LG logo. It just hangs there forever. Do I just have to get a flashable ROM onto the SD card and boot into recovery and flash??
I have already tried wiping data, cache and dalvik to no avail.
Any suggestions??

Now only thing I can do is boot into recovery or boot to the LG logo for hours... Don't even know how this could have happened as I haven't flashed anything, just root and CWM...

ensure whatever recovery you are flashing is correctly flashed and then ensure the correct supported ROM.
Also note you should download the rooted version of FRG33 or any custom recovery if your device is rooted.
