I have searched and the question has been asked many times, but never answered.
eg. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710588
It seems there aren't too many Docomo SC-02B users here...So there isn't much info on how to get proper root...I have root in the current rom via z4root, but that doesn't get kernel root or get me the needed 2e recovery... I have the 3button from the factory...
So I want to start playing with things to see if i can get something working... reading says that there are several ways that might work... or might bjork the phone... but again reading says if i can get back to download mode... odin should be able to save me... IF I HAVE A BACK UP...
So... how do I make those back ups?...
AFAIK and from what I've read, there's no way of making a working flashable backup. All references I've read regarding Clockwork backups in relation to actually restoring your phone say that you need to flash your model's firmware first and then restore from the Clockwork backup. I have that same problem. No original FW leaked for my phone/carrier so I haven't risked flashing in anything except root access and OCLF.
Did you look in samfirmwareworld.com for your fw?
Yeah but nothing.

Hey Guys I am using a Captivate SGH-1897 Baseband I897UCJF6 and Kernel version 2.6.29 jataek.lee (at symbol) sep-11 #2
I was wondering now that I have root access and set up my phone is there an easy way to make an update.zip out of my current configuration so that in case i brick my phone instead of flashing a stock ROM back onto the phone I can have my configuration flashed back to when i performed my last backup. Please advise if someone has any idea on how to do this.
The problem with you idea is that depending in the state of your phone your may note be able to get into recovery in order to rerun an update zip.

Best bet is to just use Titanium Backup to restore your apps/data. Then you could use Odin 1 Click back to stock if it ever "bricks".
hi all
i picked up a used rogers galaxy tab 7".upgraded to 2.3.3 official via kies.
GT-P1000R
rooted it.
unlocked it.
now i wish to use the phone capabilities and have a few questions.
i see in a couple posts that you no longer have to flash a complete rom, just a modem.
is that info correct?
i see that the jm2 modem seems to work best with the rogers tab,so do i just flash the modem with odin and that gives me the voice capability.
or do i need to flash a complete rom(European)?
also there is no dialer program so where do i get that at?or does it come with the modem flash.
is there a better modem than jm2 for the rogers tab?or the bell i9000 modem?
i am in canada
thanks,jeff

you need a euro based rom (official or custom) and bell i9000 modem.
hi
i have the bell i9000 modem already downloaded but not flashed.
which european rom would work best with the rogers tab.
i prefer 2.3.3
thanks

Careful what you flash though, if it's from XDA any ROM should do you okay but Samsung official ROMs may contain locked boot loaders. Catch up on some reading before doing anything.
Also i suggest that you do a complete backup of your tab before flashing anything else so that you could revert back in case of issues. Stock ROGERS firmware is hard to find. And if you do a backup I wouldn't mind a copy of it as long as you keep your personal information out. As a matter of fact, what i am after is a un-rooted fully stock ROGERS ROM. As i have deleted my original backup, and would like to revert completely back to stock, I would be very thankfull if you could help. But none the less you should do a complete backup, something like the roto or nandroid backups.
Try the OVERCOME rom, it's a great place to start as a noob to flashing, they have very detailed tutorials and the ROM is good.
EDIT: And the OVERCOME rom does work with the bell i9000 modem just fine for phone calls. Although the volume on the tab is not the greatest for a speakerphone.

Thanks for the offer. But no need to go through all of that unless you can un root with something like super one click (fast and easy, but I don't think that will work for you). If your tab is still under warranty you might want to learn how to root and unroot and restock and such (its all covered in the forums). Otherwise I don't want you playing with your tab and have a "bad" flash trying to help me out. Do read up in the dev section before you start flashing custom ROMs.
That said if you do feel comfortable flashing and decide to make a backup for yourself I definitely wouldn't mind a copy.

hi
not scared of bricking the tab,i have been flashing samsungs for the last couple years, captivates etc.my last tab i did a supposed gps fix which ended in a bootloop.
i managed to get it back but with a modified 2.2 firmware.then kies would not let me upgrade to 2.3.3(unofficial firmware error)
my problems have always been actually returning to stock.
in recovery i have the orange clockwork recovery that has an option to do factory reset.will this take me back to unrooted and unlocked???
if so consider it done.
i will need direction to do a full backup after that.
jeff
Doing a hard reset will NOT un-root or re-lock your device (as far as I know). The factory reset will clear the data and cache and should not touch the system. You have to un-root your device using the method you rooted it with or something along those lines.
As far as a backup is concerned, creating a system backup has been covered in the forums before. There is plenty of detailed instructions on performing a backuphave a look at the Roto Backup method.
Just picked up a galaxy tab ( rogers )
gt-p1000r
firmware 2.2
all stock
no root
no unlock
I would like to "give back" something
for all the HELLp you guys have given via these forums
( i swear all my grey hair started once i dumped my blackberry and went samsung and found this site! )
Anyway
If you are still looking for the a copy of the STOCK system before I start to play...
I will try to figure out how to make a copy for you
I upgraded from icssgs 3 to 4.2 abd ever since i get no reception at all. No data, no calls no nothing. Wifi works though.
I have tried since and flashing several different roms and the problem persists. Has anyone had this problem before or does anyone have a possible solution?

Have you tried factory reset, cache wipe, advanced and dalvik cache wipe, and then re-flashing rom? Are you using teamhacksung build 16?
risking to sound stupid, by " No data, no calls no nothing" you mean "no signal"?
if you've tried the solution suggested by am2012, have you tried installing a different modem?
try flashing a modem...u can get one from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783&highlight=bootloaders
I have tried wiping and reflashing. I have also tried flashing different roms with different modems.
I reflashed the last rom that worked but the problem persisted.
I have had thoughts of flashing a rom with odin instead of cwm but i dont know if it should make a difference?
Thanx for the replys btw, all help is very appreciated.

Try wiping and resetting everything. Then put phone into download mode and odin a stock ROM. Then if things work start working again with your signal, flash rc4.2 again. I have flashed loads of ics roms and never had a problem I couldn't fix by going back to stock ROM. Try 2.3.6 the 'leaked one' from Sammobile.
By the way, you have got a i9000 international version haven't you?

Hey, just realised you have i9100. Have you used the right ROM for your phone? Does icssgs release for i9100?
Sent from my GT-i9000 using XDA App
Is ur imei at its place ???
If you've got an sII then icssgs is never going to work - go back to sII rom.
If you've got an sI then as sbnaul pointed out it is most probably your IMEI. Some users found their IMEI changed when upgrading to 4.2
Hopefully you've taken a backup of your efs - if so just copy the backup imei file over.
If not, there is still hope - flash stock gb 2.3 back onto the phone - this should restore the imei. Then take a backup of the efs folder, flash 4.2 and copy your backed up imei into efs
Thanks for the help.
I have 2 phones, one internarional sgs and an international s2.
I mostly use the s2 but i want the sgs to work nonetheless
Im gonna try reflashing the stock, i dont have any efs backups or such:/
I have been looking for a good stock rom but didnt find a good one. Im gonna look for the leaked sammobile release though so thanks for that.
How do i take the needed efs backup? Is it through cwm?
Thanks!

I'm quite sure that this is a modem issue...
If you know, which ROM were you using previous to ICS where the reception was fine, then you can flash that modem.
(For eg.: it was 2.3.6 XXJVU in my case. So, I would require a JVU modem)
Here is a concise list of all the modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783

Yes, I have tried that but it doesnt work.
But now I flashed the stock rom and I got the reception back. So now Im gonna root and try to backup the efs folder.
Thanks alot everybody to answered the thread.
There we go. Now it works again. I didnt even have to restore the efs folder.
I just flashed the stock rom, rooted and then flashed icssgs 4.2 and now it works.
Thanks everyone
full wipe , flash new rom worked for me
I've heard if you flash a stock ROM with Odin, then the problem with the IMEI (efs folder) is often done. Is this right?

Yup... that does the job...
I used the latest ee rom from sammimobile to make a rom with android kitchen. Im a complete beginner to this and thought I had rooted, zip aligned and deodexed it. Signed it and it made a zip.
I flashed this zip and it got stuck at the boot logo. So i restored from cwm nandroid (which was of the same rom originally installed via mobile odin and rooted.) When it booted up I had no mobile signal.
I checked the imei and it had gone. I had backed up the nv data before hand but was unable to restore it due to connection issues.
I reflashed the same firmware(ee) via mobile odin and I had imei and signal again.
What is happening here? Can you back up a stock rom with cwm? Can I still flash other custom roms without fear of losing my imei. I like to try most new roms but im a bit worried about screwing up my phone.
Also does anyone know why my rom never worked. Like I say it was my first attempt
Thanks

Who knows what you have done wrong building a rom .
Can you back up a stock rom with cwm >>>>>YES but it will have rooted recovery .
Can I still flash other custom roms without fear of losing my imei>>> If you have EFS / NV backup.
jje
Why do you think I lost my imei? From the rom I made and if so why didn't the nandroid I made of stock rom with cwm restore my imei? It only came back from a fresh install of the same firmware?? Proper confused.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
a nandroid backup doesn't touch the imei.
restoring the NV data is the only possible solution
I never restored nmy nv data tho and I got my imei back just by flashing stock rom again
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
right, I missed that part. don't know what caused it
Flashing back a stock rom is a known method of possible restore of failed EFS/NV .
But the word is possible rather than probable and not to be relied on .
jje
But now its back is it as it was before. As in free to flash roms as I please as long as they are legit I.E ripper rom and cm 10 roms etc?
Thanks

yes
Probably you don't put modem.bin in ROM package or put n a wrong place and updater-script cannot find it.
