Hey guys,
I'm having trouble flashing my stock G1 to CM6. I rooted my phone using Androot and downloaded and installed CM6. When I try to install, I get an error saying Installation Aborted and when my phone reboots, its back to stock 1.6 again. I tried this before following steps on Cyanogen and bricked my phone. Help?
Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention I downloaded CM6 and tried to install using ROM Manager.
Ish
I dont know if you tried this already but I was getting problems flashing and this solved...
Install AR recovery, install the danger spl, intall the ratio, then flash...
Good luck
Edit: I'm not sure about the spl and radio order, use the cyanogen wiki to find what to flash first....

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Radio then spl!
So, I should flash radio first? Then can I try to flash CM 6?

Radio, SPL, boot into recovery, partition the sd card to your liking, flash CM 6, then flash the google apps in the CM 6 thread, reboot.
Just check the cyan wiki on flashing the danger spl just to double check.

i am currently on 2.42.00.03.10 and I can't flash the newest radio over this.
I tried only the newest one but it won't stick.
I tried with clockwork recovery, RA 1.62, and RA Darchstar 1.7.
it goes through the process fine but when i boot the rom it still shows no change.
my signal is good so this is really not a important issue but just a curiosity for me.
i head the same problem but somehow i was able to upfldate my radio, just dont know why after several attempts it finally went thru with the update. are u using any stock base rom? i think after going with stock rom i was finally able to update my radio though i dont think there is a relation between rom and radio. but try if you want to just nandroid ur rom so u can get back to it after u flash the radio. good luck

Ok so I found this usefull tut on the wiki from cyanogenmod, and I followed it. Everything went great until I had to flash dangerSPL. So I've put the 2.22.19.26i Radio on it, flashed it, and then I flashed the DangerSPL. I was going absolutly crazy when it was stuck at the t-mobile G1 screen... I Can acces the Recovery AND the bootloader (Amon Ra 1.7). Ive tried Whipe -> Whipe data/factory reset. But I'm still stuck on the G1 screen after that. Is there a step that I'm missing or can I call it my own personal brick?
You did install your ROM after flashing the SPL?

No, So I have to flash SPL and then directly flash ROM?
Excuse me the question, but do you know, what you are doing? Do you expect, too, that a computer, where you repartitioned the harddisk is booting the former OS without any problems?

Ooh, that explains a lot XD So DangerSPL is there to repartition the memory.
Ok so did the whole process again, after doing the SPL, I flashes cyanogen mod 6.0 and google apps. Now I've rebooted and it is stuck (Or does it just takes ages) on the blue Cyanogen(mod) cirkel with the rotating thingie
You sound like a real newb.
You should install spl 1.33.2003, which uses stock partition layouts and is fully compatible with the DREAM RADIOS (and thus won't brick). To alter partitioning, use the CORRECT tools, specifically, the partition table can be handed to the kernel on the command line. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717874
Unfortunately DangerSPL is "misused" to repartition the memory of the phone. Nowadays there is no need to do so (links to alternatives can be found in my signature), but everybody is suggesting it, so everybody is using it.
About the boot time: It will take long to boot, for sure several minutes. If you see the bootimage at least the kernel was loaded without problems, i.e. first step is working. If you want to see what's going on during the boot-phase, you can try to logcat using adb (-> it's a remote debugging tool).
I sound noob because I am at this stuff. Got my phone in yesterday...
And so if I install spl 1.33.2003, I will be able to get Cyanogen 6.0 on the phone. The tutorial said dangerSPL expanded one pertition and that that was necessary. Is this also so with spl 1.33.2003?
You cannot flash the 1.33.2003 and use CM6 directly. To use CM6 with 1.33.2003 you need to "patch" your kernels using Firerat's mtd-custom partition layout. It consist of 2 zip files which are used to modify your recovery and your boot images (down in my signature is a link to the thread where it is explained in detail). The advantage of doing so: no risk to brick your phone and the partition layout can be defined almost as you want.
Another hint I would like to give you and others starting to root and to flash new ROMs: before rooting and flashing, try to read as much as possible here in the forum. Especially the "sticky" postings which give you some introductions. It will help you to get an understanding of what you are doing and how it is working. Bricking a phone is more easy as you might think ...
Recently i tried to update my ROM to 2.3.5.. i got some verification error first and using clockworkmod recovery i got rid of that error.. now even after successful completion of the installation my phone is stuck at G1 screen.... any idea??
yeah usually that means you dont have required radio/spl for rom... can you still get into recovery mode?
Today weather forecast anounced sunny weather, but it's raining now. Any idea, why?

ok so that means its not briked lo thats good!!! so what rom are you trying to flash? and what radio and spl do you currently have? maybe the rom needs to be signed...
@ldrifta trying to flash cm-7.1.0-RC1-DS-signed and the radio version is 2.22.27.08 and spl is 1.33.0013d !! and inorder for the installation to complete i had to disable the verification..

well as far as i know, if the rom is signed you shouldn't need to disable the verification... but uhhh maybe your sd card...? did you set up swap and ext partitions?
Yep.. swap and ext3 partitions has been set correctly.. But without disabling the verification, the ROM would not get intalled.. some of the other users too came across this verification problem.. and one of the senior member of this forum had asked to disable the verifiation fromk clockworkmod recovery!! Reverting to 2.3.4 doesn't seem to cause any problem and its working like charm.. ..
hmmm im not sure than... if you have correct radio/spl and sd card is set up right than i im not sure why it wont work... try ext4 and just wiping everything on device before flashing..
Where are you getting this Cyanogenmod 7.1 ROM for G1...? There are ones BASED off of CM, like COS-DS... But as far as I know, CM 7 is not available for g1... They stopped support after CM 6. My guess is that the ROM just isn't compatible, so you are stuck at the boot screen. Try using Ginger Yoshi, or COS-DS. Both of those Gingerbread ROMS are pretty great.
Hi guys! so i have a htc t-mobile g1 firmware version 1.6 build number dmd
64. I have installed rom manager and universal androot v1.6.2 beta 5. I rooted phone and flashed clockwork mod recovery. I would like to install a rom.
where do i go from here? Do I have to still downgrade the sofware or can I go right from 1.6 dmd 64 to a rom. the option download a rom does not work,I get message the requested item cannot be found. what are my options? can someone please help me! i am total noob and this is my only phone for now don't wanna screw it up. sorry for long post just trying to be accurate.....thanks.
is the recovery installed?
you went the fast way but it still usually works
power on the phone holding the home button
if your in clockwork recovery then your ok, just flash a rom
the newest roms require more work from you to get them though
see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
yes, it does go into clockwork recovery. i had flashed clockworkmod recovery and backed up current rom in rom manager. i was worried i had to downgrade to rc29 or something like that. do i still have to install radio and danger sp? thank for the help and replying
Most roms you want will require you to
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
so no downgrade? ill install radio and danger spl and try cyanogen6 android 2.2. ill follow the cyanogenmod wiki and try it. well see how it goes......
I wouldn't recomend cm6 with only the danger spl, you be very slow if it boots at all. Try cm5. If you want more you'll need to follow the 2708+ update to get the extra ram hack for roms past 2.1
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I will try cm5 then thanks....I'll post any issues i have..
i was just on cyanogenmod wiki trying to install cm5 and it says clockworkmod is not recomended or safe.it says to please upgrade to aman ra. so confused now
Its only not recommended because amonra is better for the dream, clockwork will work just fine. Also know that cyanogen helped write the code that amonra is based off of. All that said I use amonra and not the biggest fan of clockwork

first of i like to say thank you for taking the time to help.this is what i downloaded so far, radio 2.22.23.02,danger spl,cm5. there is also something called mirror. what is it? and should i download that as well.after downloading this stuff it needs to be put on root of sd card then i should flash each one?
correct, here is the process
have all downloads on root of sd card
root (you did this)
install custom recovery (you id this)
flash radio via recovery (you can test and make sure by powering on w/camera)
flash spl via recovery (same test as radio)
flash rom via recovery
now you are ready to play with cm5!
the mirror is just in case the download link isnt working for you, same file
thank you so much! you are the man really appreciate it bro..worked perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi my g1 keeps rebooting at the g1 screen only on the ezgingerbread rom it boots but 3g/edge doesnt work there. ive tried alot of roms and its always the same. I have used the search function.
Dream 32B
hboot 1.33.2005
radio 2.22.28.25
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Thanks
its probably your radio /spl are not supported in the roms you are choosing to flash, make sure you meet all requirements in the op of any rom you choose
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
The reason for your problems might be your unusual SPL / radio combo. EzGingerbread has auto-kernel included, so it's booting up fine, but probably the interface to the radio is not working fine. The other ROMs probably are installing a wrong kernel and so it boot-loops.
I suggest you to eiher install the 1.33.0013d spl or the 2.22.19.26 radio. Look at Terry's thread for more info! (A link is in my signature)

Thank you i got it working i am now running :
hboot 1.33.0013d
radio 2.22.28.25
i couldnt find a image of 2.22.19.25 but its working thank you
I lied sorry not all roms work still the same issiue does anyone know where to get a radio image of 2.22.19.25 ?
anddisa mistyped, but he is right in your first issue, you now have the most up to date radio/spl combo more info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26639740
some roms won't work with this unless you use the proper kernel. you don't need to change your radio but more info is needed. what roms are you trying to flash? have you ever used cmtd? what is your recovery? are you wiping between flashes? superwipe? fastboot -w?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I have been using clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 i dont know what cmtd is but i've been using oshaka superwipe and just normal wiping with clockworkmod (factory reset and then cache). I wanted to flash lmc froyo and super e 1.0.3. and froyo cream sandwich. Froyo cream sandwich works but i dont like the theme. I have no ext partitions i had a 8gb class 6 sd card with ext4 but it just wouldt work on this phone using a 2gb sd card now.
I suggest using amonra recovery, it works better on the g1. super e will not work as is, you need a kernel to flash over it. I suggest the biffmodtest kernel found in ezterrys thread I linked. make sure to read the op of a thread and make sure you meet the requirements. cmtd is custom partition mapping. if you don't use it don't worry about it.

This combo is best, but 1.33.2005 / 2.22.19.26(!) would be fine, too, even with less memory available.

I tried flashing the amon ra recovery via fastboot but theres a signature failure (FAILED remote signature verify fail) and i will test the biffmodtest kernel if i can get my recovery working. super e is working perfectly with the biffmod kernel i am not gonna mess with my phone any further since i am not having it long anymore. Thank you very much for all your help
now that you have the .13d spl write fastboot commands wont work (read the full op of ezterry's post)
i dont want to sound rude but all of your questions could have easily been answered by searching and reading. im afraid you are going to brick your phone if you dont do the appropriate reading to understand the process. it is very easy to brick a phone when flashing firmware, people make the same mistakes frequently; dont check md5sums, flash incompatible spl/radio, etc.
if you read the post you will see you would need to flash the orange.nbh through bootloader to regain an spl with fully working fastboot commands.
just be careful and make sure you understand what you are about to do so you dont end up with a paper weight

You cannot fastboot flash recovery with the 1.33.0013d SPL. If you want to change it, you either need to use recovery, or you need to go the long way: flashing the orange-rom, flashing the recovery, flashing the 1.33.0013d SPL (the details are described in Terry's 2708-thread).
