[Q] rommanager /universal androot v1.6.2 beta 5 - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! so i have a htc t-mobile g1 firmware version 1.6 build number dmd
64. I have installed rom manager and universal androot v1.6.2 beta 5. I rooted phone and flashed clockwork mod recovery. I would like to install a rom.
where do i go from here? Do I have to still downgrade the sofware or can I go right from 1.6 dmd 64 to a rom. the option download a rom does not work,I get message the requested item cannot be found. what are my options? can someone please help me! i am total noob and this is my only phone for now don't wanna screw it up. sorry for long post just trying to be accurate.....thanks.

is the recovery installed?
you went the fast way but it still usually works
power on the phone holding the home button
if your in clockwork recovery then your ok, just flash a rom
the newest roms require more work from you to get them though
see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139

yes, it does go into clockwork recovery. i had flashed clockworkmod recovery and backed up current rom in rom manager. i was worried i had to downgrade to rc29 or something like that. do i still have to install radio and danger sp? thank for the help and replying

Most roms you want will require you to
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

so no downgrade? ill install radio and danger spl and try cyanogen6 android 2.2. ill follow the cyanogenmod wiki and try it. well see how it goes......

I wouldn't recomend cm6 with only the danger spl, you be very slow if it boots at all. Try cm5. If you want more you'll need to follow the 2708+ update to get the extra ram hack for roms past 2.1
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

I will try cm5 then thanks....I'll post any issues i have..

i was just on cyanogenmod wiki trying to install cm5 and it says clockworkmod is not recomended or safe.it says to please upgrade to aman ra. so confused now

Its only not recommended because amonra is better for the dream, clockwork will work just fine. Also know that cyanogen helped write the code that amonra is based off of. All that said I use amonra and not the biggest fan of clockwork
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

first of i like to say thank you for taking the time to help.this is what i downloaded so far, radio 2.22.23.02,danger spl,cm5. there is also something called mirror. what is it? and should i download that as well.after downloading this stuff it needs to be put on root of sd card then i should flash each one?

correct, here is the process
have all downloads on root of sd card
root (you did this)
install custom recovery (you id this)
flash radio via recovery (you can test and make sure by powering on w/camera)
flash spl via recovery (same test as radio)
flash rom via recovery
now you are ready to play with cm5!
the mirror is just in case the download link isnt working for you, same file

thank you so much! you are the man really appreciate it bro..worked perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all!
i have some questions to this app:
http://www.cyrket.com/package/org.zenthought.flashrec
http://www.ryebrye.com/blog/2009/08/16/android-rooting-in-1-click-in-progress/
1. does it works on T-Mobile D G1 with any FW? or also only with RC29 or RC7?
2. is flashing "HardSPL" or "DangerSPL" a musthave or can i use the original SPL (iam scarry to flah SPL)?
3. when i restore the backup do i have the full original t-mobile D delivery version of my G1?
4. how i restore the original recovery.img
5. if needed, how do i restore the original SPL
6. do i need to flash the Radio manual or do the apk make this
7. is this the right order?
- download apk
- install apk
- download CyanogenMod v4.0.1
- save as update.zip on SD root
- execute apk
- create backup
- flash Cyanogen recovery 1.4
- reboot into the new

please correct me if the is anything wrong or if i missed any step!!

As a N00b you should at least read the Sticky posts, like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528334 this one...
It's called:
"Don't Start A New Thread - Dream Questions & Answers Here!"
All questions should be posted in the Q&A Section. I'm not too familiar with the 1-click rooting since it's been out for less than 72hrs so from what I've heard the 1-click root flashes cyan's recovery for you so all you have to do is this:
-Download and flash newest radio
-Download and flash Hard SPL
-Wipe
-Download and flash CM v4.0.1
If you do it in this order I'm 99.99999% sure you won't brick your phone, but once again please post all future question in the Q&A section

Yes, this app worked perfectly for me ( cuz I dun wanna waste my time doing all the porcess of pulling the firmware back to RC29 ). If u have the latest radio, then just execute the .apk, turn off your phone right after doing all the required process from that app ( back up current img then Flash the 1.4 img from Cyanogen I remember ), then go into recovery mode and you have the newest recovery img. (Remember to put the CyanogenModv4.0.1 to your SD first). Then Wipe and Flash the update, and you're done
and it works without flashing SPL????

hard spl will not brick your phone. it is needed to flash roms from other regions than yours. hard spl is a good thing to have. also with it you can flash nandroid back ups and you can change your splash screen to further personalize your dream. enough said... go download it. flash it. if you have to wipe, then wipe. if you don't like wiping then you should not have rooted in the first place.
but to use this tool have id need to flash the SPL or works it with the original SPL too? in the manual and one the youtube video- there is no info about a need to flash the SPL.
all i want to know is:
can i just install this app, flash the new radio, run the backup, flash recovery, flash CFW, and iam done or not
yes you can do that. afterwards i would recommend flashing the hard spl.
you do not have to flash it, but it would be a good thing.

thanks, should i flash the radio befor i try to root my G1 with the 1-click rooting? or after i flashed the custom FW?
I used the "1-click root"
I followed all the steps and my phone is working fine, but how can you tell if its rooted?
Also, if it is rooted and I wanted to install the most current cyanogen ROM, do I have to install the new radio and SPL files?
Thanks in adv for putting up with my N00Bness.
what build do you have now? rc33? i would first update the radio. i would not mess with the newer spl as it has been known to brick phones. also did you install cynogen's recovery image? turn phone off then hold power button and home key when you turn it on to put you back into recovery image. it should say cynogen recovery 1.4 on top. it will have a number of options on the bottom nandroid backup, restore nandroid etc. if that cynogen"s recovery image is on the phone its rooted. after you flash the latest radio, i would flash jf 1.51 build then cynogens latest build. i heard the going to cynogens latest build will cause a bootloop if your not coming from another modded build.

To tell if the phone is rooted, download terminal emulator from the market and type su at the prompt. If the phone is rooted, the prompt should go from a $ to a #. If not, you will get a permission denied error message. If that is the case, probably go the old fashion way of rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548924
As far as the SPL and radio, you don't need the danger SPL (haykuro's) but you will need to engineering SPL or hard SPL to install custom ROMs. As far as the radio, you want to latest radio to improve calls, bluetooth, etc.
hi im also new..
i did the 1 click root too. i did the back up, then flashed the 1.4. then the nandroid backup, then wiped the data, then flashed cyanogens 4.0.1. so im pretty sure im rooted.. and everything works too! except myfaves and the native im app.
but whats this about the radio? do i have to update that? i havent messed with the radio at all.. what are the dangers in this? if any?
and i haave no clue what the hell spl is lol

You have cyanogen recovery 1.4 you say?
First:
install 1.33.2003 (very important -- ends in a THREE) SPL. Search the forum for it, should be around.
Second:
install 2.22.19.26 or 2.22.23.02 radio (.19.26 is available at developer.htc.com/adp.html).
Third: install a newer recovery image. Check the dev forum.
Fourth: install any ROM you like. You can install the bone stock ADP1 system image (like tmobile stock, but has root), if you want to try CM6, you should look in the dev forum for firerat's MTD PARTITION HACK THREAD. Hell, it would do you good anyway.
Thanks! Time to do some reading and get this resolved.

Androot

Hey guys,
I'm having trouble flashing my stock G1 to CM6. I rooted my phone using Androot and downloaded and installed CM6. When I try to install, I get an error saying Installation Aborted and when my phone reboots, its back to stock 1.6 again. I tried this before following steps on Cyanogen and bricked my phone. Help?
Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention I downloaded CM6 and tried to install using ROM Manager.
Ish
I dont know if you tried this already but I was getting problems flashing and this solved...
Install AR recovery, install the danger spl, intall the ratio, then flash...
Good luck
Edit: I'm not sure about the spl and radio order, use the cyanogen wiki to find what to flash first....

So, I should flash radio first? Then can I try to flash CM 6?

Radio, SPL, boot into recovery, partition the sd card to your liking, flash CM 6, then flash the google apps in the CM 6 thread, reboot.
Just check the cyan wiki on flashing the danger spl just to double check.

Need help flashing roms to G1

what is your radio/spl?
also have you flashed many other roms before?
Please using following combination for Radio and SPL. Also note, flash radio first and then SPL otherwise G1 will not boot. Also make sure you have Clockworkmod recovery for CM7. This recovery helps for smooth flashing for CM7.
update_2.22.28.25_S - Radio
hboot0013d-signed - SPL

OK, this might be sorta a strange question, but this looks to be the best place to ask it.
Will the Dream be bootable if you flash only the Radio and SPL, leaving untouched the stock Android 1.6?
While I am a Linux geek, I am new to android and prefer to take things one step at a time. That explains why I have a Rooted dream with Amon RA with the stock 1.6 backed up with nandroid.

never tried, theoretically it should be as if you did a factory reset and you would just use your recovery to replace anything lost. but if you want to be safe maybe someone who has will chime in.
besides the point go ahead and flash a new rom, even if you stick with 1.6 firmware the developers have come out with much superior roms over the stock android. if you want only 1.6 try super d or super csdi
ok so i decided to test this out, updating a g1 to the 2708+ radio/spl and not flashing a new rom -------- stuck on g1 boot screen, hit call+menu+power then hit home to reboot to recovery, reflashed rom and gapps, rebooted, now everything is good as can be, so to answer your question --- yes it appears you need to flash a rom after you update your radio/spl

[Q] google g1 keeps rebooting at g1 screen

Hi my g1 keeps rebooting at the g1 screen only on the ezgingerbread rom it boots but 3g/edge doesnt work there. ive tried alot of roms and its always the same. I have used the search function.
Dream 32B
hboot 1.33.2005
radio 2.22.28.25
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Thanks
its probably your radio /spl are not supported in the roms you are choosing to flash, make sure you meet all requirements in the op of any rom you choose
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
The reason for your problems might be your unusual SPL / radio combo. EzGingerbread has auto-kernel included, so it's booting up fine, but probably the interface to the radio is not working fine. The other ROMs probably are installing a wrong kernel and so it boot-loops.
I suggest you to eiher install the 1.33.0013d spl or the 2.22.19.26 radio. Look at Terry's thread for more info! (A link is in my signature)

hboot 1.33.0013d
radio 2.22.28.25

I lied sorry not all roms work still the same issiue does anyone know where to get a radio image of 2.22.19.25 ?
anddisa mistyped, but he is right in your first issue, you now have the most up to date radio/spl combo more info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26639740
some roms won't work with this unless you use the proper kernel. you don't need to change your radio but more info is needed. what roms are you trying to flash? have you ever used cmtd? what is your recovery? are you wiping between flashes? superwipe? fastboot -w?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I have been using clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 i dont know what cmtd is but i've been using oshaka superwipe and just normal wiping with clockworkmod (factory reset and then cache). I wanted to flash lmc froyo and super e 1.0.3. and froyo cream sandwich. Froyo cream sandwich works but i dont like the theme. I have no ext partitions i had a 8gb class 6 sd card with ext4 but it just wouldt work on this phone using a 2gb sd card now.
I suggest using amonra recovery, it works better on the g1. super e will not work as is, you need a kernel to flash over it. I suggest the biffmodtest kernel found in ezterrys thread I linked. make sure to read the op of a thread and make sure you meet the requirements. cmtd is custom partition mapping. if you don't use it don't worry about it.

This combo is best, but 1.33.2005 / 2.22.19.26(!) would be fine, too, even with less memory available.

I tried flashing the amon ra recovery via fastboot but theres a signature failure (FAILED remote signature verify fail) and i will test the biffmodtest kernel if i can get my recovery working. super e is working perfectly with the biffmod kernel i am not gonna mess with my phone any further since i am not having it long anymore. Thank you very much for all your help
now that you have the .13d spl write fastboot commands wont work (read the full op of ezterry's post)
i dont want to sound rude but all of your questions could have easily been answered by searching and reading. im afraid you are going to brick your phone if you dont do the appropriate reading to understand the process. it is very easy to brick a phone when flashing firmware, people make the same mistakes frequently; dont check md5sums, flash incompatible spl/radio, etc.
if you read the post you will see you would need to flash the orange.nbh through bootloader to regain an spl with fully working fastboot commands.
just be careful and make sure you understand what you are about to do so you dont end up with a paper weight

You cannot fastboot flash recovery with the 1.33.0013d SPL. If you want to change it, you either need to use recovery, or you need to go the long way: flashing the orange-rom, flashing the recovery, flashing the 1.33.0013d SPL (the details are described in Terry's 2708-thread).
