I just updated to JI6 Froyo (Cognition) and now I am unable to connect to my corporate email account. I get a warning message that states my phone does not support security policies. Not sure what's changed from the 2.1 to 2.2, but I do know my Corporate email does indeed work with 2.1 eclair. One thing to note is that my corporate email requires a 4 digit lock pin, perhaps this is whats causing the issue?
Can anyone provide any insight into what changes were made to the email client in 2.2 Froyo, and why exchange email is no longer supported (in this particular instance)?
Thanks in advance.

You should try to delete the email client and install the cyanogen one. I think that'd what sherpa did for his ''rom''
Yay no more fc
I'm pretty new to Android (Blackberry and WinMO power user). I'm assuming I would need to remove the client via ADB commands? I feel like its probably better just to wait for CM6.1 to get ported to the captivate.
Have you tried beta 5.5? I just installed and it has a new email client. It has fixed the forward/reply issues for me. May solve your issues too.

Eclair never really supported security policies. Froyo does. You should set the PIN then readd the account and it should start working.
Or just break down and get touchdown. So much better than the stock client. Especially from an enterprise exchange admin point of view.

is there a pointer as to how to do this?

I have been having with all the ROM's (and I have tried haykuro, JF, Rogers cyano, ramjet, virtudude etc. with the same error message 'cannot create the account, please try again later.'
Now, Moxier, RoadSync Beta and Touchdown all work just fine with the same inputs (SSL, exchange server name, user, passwd, domain etc.) I am giving the HTC mail app.
I Think the problem is ISA. My company uses ISA security.
All the 3rd party apps (Moxier, TD etc.) all support ISA, but I don't think the HTC mail app supports it.
Reason for this post is two-fold:
-I know there were/are others who are in the same boat, thought I'd at least pass this along
-Question is, the new Mytouch 3G announced clearly mentions Exchange support, so I am wondering how that can be since I have tried all variations/ROM's based on cupcake here already with no avail.
The only thing I haven't tried is the stock cupcake update which i don' think has Exchange? So does the MyTouch have a customized ROM or would ISA probably not work on MyTouch as well?
I am guessing the later?
KG
I think i know what is the issue, the account you are trying to create is Secured, and HTC mail client is not secured, and you will have the same issue with MyTouch 3G ,i tried it myself and i've got the same error (

Hi,
Have a look at this Thread
There are some issues with the exchange client, it could also be your server setup, check out Brian's comments in the thread.
That might help.
Cheers,
Jon
Make certain you are on Exchange 2007, 03 has way too many issues w/mobile devices, 07 has many designs based around mobile.
About the Exchange thing:
I imagine they're using advertising speak to say that you can get your Exchang email - which is possible over IMAP (depending on your Exchange server settings, obviously).
From what I understand, Google won't allow the "with Google" tag on phones that include ActiveSync.
The MyTouch3G most definitely is "with Google". So it's probably the IMAP thing.
I think it is the ISA issue. I also have the same problem with the stock HTC activesync exchange software. ISA option is the only difference I notice between the stock HTC activesync and the 3rd party apps (touchdown, moxier, etc)

huh? this is not my decision to make. My company uses 2003, that's that. Dunno if/when they will upgrade to 2007, point was that 2003 works fine with Moxier, TD and Roadsync, that is all the other 3rd party apps work, only the HTC app doesn't work.
exchange contacts sync
Here is my issue with exchange. it sync all my contacts. after about a day, it comes back with 'client server conversion error' only way to fix it is to delete the account and start over. Any ideas on this one?

where i work we use Zimbra which has an "exchange" server. It utterly fails on any HTC exchange support
touchdown works perfectly, iphone exchange works perfectly. Pre exchange works perfectly.
Right now this is the single biggest "fail" with android.
So anybody know if the Exchange s/w that comes with cupcake will do better than HTC's s/w? (i.e. will/does it have ISA access)?
It's too much work to try it out, would have to downgrade down to RC29->RC30->cupcake. And i would lose root?
I guess it would be too much to ask if someone on this board would be:
-running cupcake (stock)
-have an ISA exchange account to test with
*sigh*, this is literally the ONLY thing I hate about Android.

there is zero support for exchange most official builds. the builds that do have it, use HTC's poor implementation.

Here are some of my observations.
-JAC Hero - my HTC exchange works fine. Just can't seem to include original email in replies. I can't cut/paste either. No HTML.
**is this the same in Rogers builds?
-Dudes Rogers - wouldn't create account similar to you issue. Went back to hero.
JAC Hero - I reinstalled, but did not set up email durin begining phone setup. Later when configuring it would connect, show my folders, then fail to create account. I did a logcat and it is trying to delte an account that does not exist.
JAC Hero - reflashed and setup during phone setup and it works fine.
***anybody know the difference for HTC mail between Rogers and Hero??
I'd like to give Rogers a more solid try but need exchange.

I got the same issues that you have with contacts i have tried the ravenge rom, The dudes rom and they i end up with the same error client server conversation error, sometimes i get "error occurred on the computer running the exchange server" and the only way to get rid of it if to delete the account and try again i have 586 contacts... My colleague has a G1 and running any of the above mentioned Rom's he gets no errors he has 150 contacts.
It could be that its toooo many contacts for the sync to handle, i have created a new Exchange account imported my 586 contacts and i will let you know how it goes in a day.
I cant live without exchange!!!! and i don't fancy buying touchdown (even though it works really well)
help solving this issue will be higly appreciated

Then go get a Windows Mobile phone people are trying to help you, no need to be so impatient. Who can you really blame if it is a compatibility issue between Exchange 2003 and the app? HTC or your company for not keeping things up to date?
Also, I wouldn't say this thread belongs in Android development.

I have the same problems... I have 138 contacts. I plan to back them up and strip there content down, like removing comments and contact images and see if that helps.
I work for a company with strict privacy settings for their mail server. Will exchange activesync work? I tried without success but was wondering whether I'm missing details I need to put in. I tried my login at work but it doesn't work.
Thanks!

It doesn't work for me. When I try to sync I get told that there are security policies not supported by Android! The lack of native decent Exchange support remains my biggest gripe with Android.
For the record, WinMo, iPhone and indeed Touchdown work perfectly with my companies servers.
I use Touchdown instead, but would prefer a more native implementation.

On 2.1, exchange activesync was not working (depending on corporate security policies such as PIN enforcement, remote wipe, etc) with native mail app and you needed third party (roadsync/touchdown)
All that's changed on 2.2. Native e-mail app works great, pushes mail, syncs contacts/calendar.
I only wish search functionality was included...

Hi,
I haven't found any support for Exchange peak, off-peak sync support.
is there any way to put it?
thanks,
Hi,
You need to have Froyo 2.2.1 where the exchange email account has a "sync schedule" option.

As far as I know, that doesn't exist in 2.2.1. I'm running Doc's rom now (which is 2.2.1), and I don't have that feature. I've never seen that in stock Android (including Gingerbread). It does exist on 3rd party Exchange clients such as RoadSync as well as on the HTC Sense e-mail.
If I'm wrong, and I can do this on my SGS, please do correct me, because I'd love to be able to! I have a license for RoadSync, but I hate the UI
John
I use the seven email client, they call it beta but it is 100% stable. Its free and can schedule. I came across this program as it is the company that supplied samsung with the social hub email client. This is a nice unified inbox for me with the ability to work with synced folders.
I'm using Darky's Rom 9.3
The exchange mail client in it, has the setting to schedule your method of getting the emails ("push" or "manual") according to your schedule ON/OFF peak. There's a bug though --- the roaming setting is defaulted to "manual". I can't seem to change it.
So for Froyo 2.2.1 -- such on/off peak setting exists.

Did you try in 2.2.1 to set up a new exchange account in the stock email program ?
I did not have this peak / off-peak in 2.1 Eclair neither in 2.2 Froyo but was happy to finally get it in the stock email program from 2.2.1 JPY stock Froyo (I also had it this function in the custom ROMs I tried : Darky's & Doc's).
Is it me or does the stock android email app not receive pushed emails? My Gmail app receives them instantaneously, or almost. The stock android email app requires you to have a set syncing period. If any new mail is pushed, it will not see it until you manually sync or the sync period previously set comes around.
Is this behavior the way this app is intended to work or am I missing something?
Any insight would be much appreciated!

I set my email to every 5 minutes. it's a little drain on battery but its really nice
watch your data though, i recommend the 2GB plan if you set it to every 5
I have unlimited data... just wish I could figure out why a stock android email app can't take advantage of Push...
Thanks for your suggestion though!
Anyone else have any ideas?

i have never had problems with stock android mail app when it comes to push. been using it on exchange 2003 backend for quite some time. its worked fine since 2.1
I use Maildroid. It will push most email (haven't tried Exchange accounts), even yahoo.
Thanks guys,
I am needing it to allow for push emails from my gmail accout. So far the stock email client is the only one I have found that allows me to use Grouped Contacts... I would think that gmail push to native email android email client would be a given but not so for me...

the GMail app pushes....
Yes and I use it in conjunction with the stock app. The Gmail app will not let me use grouped contacts though. I manage a sports team and I frequently have to send out emails with 35+ recipients and with gmail I have to enter each one separately.
Thanks for the input!

I'm running Gear Manager 1.5.120903 and Software UAMK7 on Note 3. I'm considering returning my gear because i don't not get full body notifications from Touchdown, my work email exchange client, I do get the title of the emails but to see the full body I have to go manually into the app on the watch. On the other hand gmail works just fine. Any fixes?
I understand the Sony SWII gives full email content notifications.
I believe that it is because your Outlook server has security settings that make it that way. Mine did. Also made it so I had to have a lock screen with a pin code to unlock.
I Google searched Outlook no pin for android 4.3 and found a solution that worked. I had to flash a zip file.
Anyways. I think the issue is with your email server. Not the watch...

Thanks but can't root my phone as IT can tell. However why does Sony S2 work? Just bought one today and the touchdown email comes thru as a notification complete with entire email body
My company changed over to requiring Maas360 and TouchDown for accessing the 2010 Exchange Server. I poked around through the TouchDown settings to find the new server address and was able to setup my work account using the stock email app. TouchDown is still installed but pretty much disabled. I have had no issues with my work email account and get most of the email body on my gear. Don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth a shot.

I'm fairly certain that this is because Touchdown isn't specifically designed to work with the Gear, and as a result it's just trying to do its best. If Nitrodesk updated their software to specifically communicate with the Gear it'd work ok. You may want to send them a request email, I'm probably going to.
