Hi,
recently I flashed my SGS with JM8 / Tatyuma. Since then the device fails to send SMS. The GUI just says "failed".
What can I do?

If you've got all your APN settings right, and can receive SMS but not send, you may have to put in your SMSC number.
Looks like I can't post links yet, so google "smsc numbers" and you'll see some results where your country/carrier should be listed.
Hi,
sry for not telling but I already tried that. I dial *#*#4636#*#* and type 00491722270222 in the SMSC field. There are two buttons: Update and Refresh. Update seems to do nothing, Refresh removes the number from the field.
Any suggestions?

You need to be entering SMSC number in Octal-Hexadecimal format with special leading numbers, to tell android which format is that.
Basically go to (damn xda do not allow me to post links, as I am new user). DO search in google on "Online PDU Encoder and Decoder" - go to first link.
At the bottom, there is a converter for sms message to pdu format. Do the following, remove everything, except you smsc number (with plus sign) convert to pdu. Copy first 16 numbers from pdu. And enter them in your android SMSC update field. Click update - enjoy. It should be working.
Hi,
thank you very much for that advice! My SMS is working again

Hi I tried this and entered 07916174080001F6 into the SMSC field and hit update.
I then refreshed and the phone shows me it recorded 0791617408000166
I tried this 3 times, everytime it refuses to take alphabets as part of its SMSC number.
I even tried entering abcd -- it became 1234 when I refreshed.
What's wrong?

The above error drives me nuts!
I got that popup error everytime I send SMS.
If I click YES, the message will be sent anyway.
I tried all sort of combination of number in the Outlook Contact:
+31624000222
Or 624000222
Or 0624000222
+31 = the country code.
Anyone know why I got that error?
How to fix that?
Thanks
Anyone does not get this problem?
have you tried using 011 (011624000222) instead of the + ? i had to do that when i was living in germany and using t-mobile on my wizard that had wm6 on it.. just a thought ...though adding the 0 in front of the dialed number (0624000222) seemed to work too
Yes, I did that. And it did not work.
Anyway, I gave up and hard reset the device.
I installed everything again and now it is ok, no error popup like that anymore.

After few troubleshoots & hard resets, i finally got the solution:
go to messaging/menu/options/address tab
(in, contacts, get email addresses from) : choose [all e-mail fields].
it will solve ur problem.
i;m having the same prob. the phone can't recognize the country code or something ... when the country code is added to the number the local caller name is not displayed. and if the country code is removed from the number then in SMS the sender name is not displayed as most operators send the numbers with country code in the message headers ... damn !
checking the get address from all fields does work.
i forgot that I had unchecked that the other day..lol
Hi,
I tried doing whats described above but in my case, the phone already had the option "selected all fields" selected. I tried deselecting and selecting it again but in vain...
Any other suggestions??
tx
P.S: I have a samsung omnia
thanks - found this and it appears to work for me. Message was bugging me.
When I recieve a incoming call or text message my phone does not recognize the number as the name stored in my "contacts.
For example if I have Bob's cell number stored under "Bob as his cell phone as "555-555-5555," when the call comes in it is displayed as simply, (555)555-5555.
I have tried adding a 1 to the number stored in the phonebook and this gets that same result.
However, I can go into the call log and then choose "save number to contact" and select the number and overwrite the number and once I do that the name is displayed as "Bob" in the call log. But when they call again, I get no name displayed and it was like I never added his number to the name.
I am running the new ATT ROM downloaded from HTC's website "Build date 5-06-2009."
This was not happening before I flashed the new ROM.
Called ATT...no idea...refered me to HTC...called HTC...had no idea...said to reflash.
Don't want to have to reload all my crap if possible.
I have even tried restoring my contacts again from Sprite....no change.
Wrong "Regional Settings"?
Try changing your "Regional Settings" in system settings. I had mine set to "English (United States)", which wrongly displayed my incoming calls. Setting this to "English (United Kingdom)" solved my problem.
Hope this helps
I had the same problem. But what I do is that when ever someone calls me i choose same number to existing contact and you pick the right contact and then you press save and it will ask you if you would like to update the number and just choose "yes" and now when they call it should say the name. I dont know why but it keept doing this after i reflashed.
So I have a Bell Galaxy S I-9000 flashed with Dark Knight v4 that sometimes loses it's SMSC number on reboot. There's no real pattern with it and it appears to be completely random. Sometimes after a reboot I'll be able to send text messages and other times it will be stuck at "Sending..." and after checking my SMSC settings I'll notice the number is gone. Anyone know what the issues is or experience anything similar in the past? Thanks.
Tell The Dev to fix this or if your the only one facing the problem wipe and reflash your rom
smsc
you'll have to set the smsc number (sms message center)
from the dial make *#*#4636#*#* > Phone Information > SMSC (press refresh to see the number, just for your info) > replace the number > update.
the number is in PDU format (i'm from romania on orange)
also search google smsc pdu
sorry wrong
LE: maybe a wipe will do...
also i had the same problem on Dark knight 4, 5 and on CM9... my number right after flash was "00"
Hiii
I am getting this some what unique problem while receiving SMS that in sender number all zeros are replaced with "D". While receiving in notification it shows "D" in place of "0" & after reading in inbox it appear as "d". Due to this i am not able to know who sent me the msg untill I check by replacing all "D" with "0".
I tried differes SMS apps but the result is same. I am not able to figure out the reason.
Please help.

Foreign language? Maybe you need a language installed on your phone to render the characters for your texting.

I am not able to figure it out. It has been working fine & still working fine. Since last 10 days only I am facing this weird problem.
Even the messages I send, there also the contacts & message threads appears fine. All old sms threads appears fine.
But all new messages coming from the same contacts behaving like this. Except receiving no where i have any such issue (Calling/SMS sending).
And also this happens only with "0" not any other digit.
I tried to uninstall MoreLocale & reinstall, change language etc. Please suggest if I shall try something different.
Modify Country & IDD in assisted dialing
Till now I am not able to resolve this.
Also I have found that I cant send SMS to friends whose contact I have stored with country code ie +91 92121****1.
But I am able to call them.
I checked assisted dialing and found that My country is showing India but IDD is showing 00. And the option is freezed & there is no option to change/modify it.
Is there any other way to change it by modifying some system file.

You'll have to open build.prop and edit it. My suggestion would be to get Root Browser or something along those lines and change it that way.

Why till now HTC still have this issue that contact won't recognise if you just dial the number instead of the full format you save on your contacts. On Samsung and iPhone don't have this issue. Can HTC solve this?
Please refer to the attached picture for more details.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Mine works fine, whatever format I type the numbers or the name. Slightly confused.

OK.. Example, i saved a contact under phone TEST - +601234567890 , So when i went into phone dialing, i enter 1234567890 the number without country code, it won't recognize or display contact TEST, unless i have to enter +601234567890 full format as what i have saved then it will show.

it works for me eg my contact is saved a +312012345678 and when I dial 02012345 it will show my contact, as far as I know this has worked since my desire days. HTC dialer has always been the best for me, being able to search by first, last name and by number in short and long format (iirc the sgs2 couldn't search by last name)...
(edit, I don't know where you are from but is 12345678 a valid number to dial from a mobile phone, we always have to dial an area code first)

Another number format are friends from Brunei, number format +673 8888888 as +673 country code. Also not showing if i key 8888888, unless 6738888888.
