Why there are no Custom Roms?

Can anyone answer the question?? No Cyangogenmod, Villain and all the other cool custom Roms.. What is the Reason/Problem..?
Sent from my GT-I9000 (XXJPK) using XDA App
Actually there are a couple of them in the Dev area based on the beta versions of Froyo.
For the most part I think everyone is waiting for the final Froyo to be released before investing the time in a beta rom.
my 2 cents
But this all not really Roms.. They are themed an they removing/install Apps on the Stock Rom..?! :/
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
what do you consider a Custom ROM?
there are many skinned Custom ROMs if you check inside the Development area
They are working on Cyanogenmod (starting with Vibrant first though)
I mean with a Custom Rom a full themed flashabel Rom.. Like Cyangogenmod, Villain..!
Like at the HTC Phones..
But thanks for the Information with the Cyngogenmod
And another Question..
How to Install another Bootanimation?
Thanks for the Answers ;D
No working BootAnimation for i9000 till now.
Why there are no Bootanimations? Anyone know?
the OS has been hacked by samsung, and the files works slightly differently
and no one has bothered to figure out how to make it work on the SGS yet, that's why
it's in the low priority list

[Q] 2.2, ...just one quick question

So i want to update my rooted captivate to 2.2 finally and i just had a few questions if you guys dont mind. non-noob of course ; )
1) I havent been keeping up with the news on the leaked 2.2 for captivate as much as i should have been but currently is there a good enough version of the leaked 2.2 to be upgrading too?
2) I was not wanting to get a rom or a build with all sorts of frillz and thrills taged along with it (like lag fixes, extra apps and all those shenanigans) , i was just wanting to get the best and newest build or leaked 2.2 for captivate; a clean version, then after that i will probably apply a lag fix of my own.
-If you could kindly link me to the correct thread of what im lookin for, thad be great! haha thx
-BTW: if you think what i plan to do is a bad idea or there are just to amny downsides to doing what im planning on doing ( just using a clean version of the leaked 2.2) please by all means i would love to hear your comments.
PS: this is sorta what im looking for (clean and simple 2.2):I just thought though that sense this is so old, there might be a better one out there.

Do you need the samsung touchwiz stuff? If you only want the launcher, go for Cognition 2.3b6. Based on a captivate froyo leak and the stable captivate 2.2 that you might be looking for.
What do you mean by "if i only want the launcher", please expand on this a little more
And thx for the reply

You may want to define "native apps". Seeing as how we don't have an official release, how are we to know what is native?
And that was more than one question.
Im pretty sure that it was confirmed that 2.2 was officaly released for captivate. Its just that at&t hasnt given it to us yet.

there is absolutely no OFFICIAL release of 2.2 for the captivate. it was confirmed that there are OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL LEAKS of 2.2

I'm guessing you want ALL the touchwiz goodness? By launcher I just mean the touchwiz launcher. Just go install one of the froyo leaks if you want everything.
What are the bad things or the downsides to just getting one of the froyo leaks, instead of getting like a cog rom

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
You get a lot less options. It's a pain in the ass flashing to other roms because I believe recovery is messed up or something (I've never tried out the froyo leak but I heard so many problems with it). Devs continue working on their ROMs whereas froyo leak, it's just a leak and it's done.
Read up on stuff please and try stuff out for yourself. Know what you're flashing before you flash so that you don't have to come on XDA in desperation saying your recovery is busted or your phone is bricked. Reading helps a lot, I can tell from experience.
Aiet, thx

What should I do?

I want to develope my own kernels and roms but I don't know the road to take to get there. I'm working in some new things (editing and creating system files to boost performance, etc) but What and where should I start learning to be able to make my own roms and kernels for the hero community?
Also which is better liquids 2.1sense rom or nfinites stock 2.2 rom? Pros and cons thank you
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Well thats gonna be a matter of opinion.Liquids are optimized and most of the bloat and google stuff removed. Nfinite's not optimized, has senseand sprint apps. Both have odex and deodex versions. I prefer both odex versions of the .2 roms not big on theming ,also the odex ver. boot faster.Deca's kernels are compatable with all.If anyone can add anything that I missed, jump in get your feet wet and add to my observations based

I think what a lot of guys do is take a rom that's already made, strip it down, and then reassemble it according to how they want
That's essentially what liquid did. So I would suggest to learn the layout and how stuff is put together you do that for your first time.
I'm no dev tho, and really have no idea how to do that kind of detailed stuff. Its just what I've seen others here do and be successful and its what I would do if I could. Good luck.

For me Overcome rom is awesome than the original. Yeah you can download from market for applications. Overcome is also a Gingerbread Rom they just enhanced it t become fully stable for tab. No force close and more fast than the original.
Try overcome rom you won't regret. I you dont like this rom then your free go back to the original. Its up to you my friend...

I'm new to overcome..been using it from GOLD update,to hermes,n now on icarus..I know nothing much bout rom developing, unix, linux etc etc (list goes on..) honestly I'm still trying hard to understand most of the post on the overcome thread
did days of reading on the forum thread n overcome team website before I finally have the courage to flash for the 1st time (lol)
Until today, I don't have any regrets at all! Even after flashing to the stock gingerbread rom,I felt so excited like a kid got a new toy! eventho the latest release icarus got a few issues, but I believe the devs are working at their best to give us the best overcome experience! And I do believe "the best is yet to come"
Well,I can't post at the overcome thread yet,but I really do admires their work and am very thankful for their existance ;D

I use the overcome rom for many reasons.
The most important is that it enables sip calls in gingerbread without an extra application.
Video calls in talk are also a nice feature.
For a complete list of changes look at the first post of the overcome topic.

One last question can i backup my apps from titanium backup and restore on overcome?
Sent from top of Mt. Everest using XDA App
Yes you can use Titanium backup and some form of back up is always recommended.
Performance and features definately enhanced and the support from the team and more experienced guys is great.

The easiest way to backup apps in titanium backup is to use one of the batch scripts. Just hit the menu button in the apps list and choose something like backup all user apps and data. Then you just have to save your Titanium backup folder to PC or removable SD if you intend to restock before flashing overcome, because internal SD gets wiped.
When you have installed Ocvercome, copy.TB folder back to internal SD and use TB batch script to restore all missing apps and data. I strongly advice you to buy the pro version because otherwise you have to confirm the restore of every single app. But it's worth the money for sure as after the first flash, you will get addicted to it anyway and TB will make life so much easier.

I got sick of waiting for samsung australia to release gingerbread for the gtab so i i updated to overcome icarus last nite from 2.2 and my gtab flies now, battery usage seems to be the same as far as i can tell so no complaints there.
Backed up everything with titanium, restored contacts but they wouldnt appear until i restarted the machine. Restoring SMS didnt work
