[Q] [REQUEST] rSAP in Android (N1 controlling another device's sim) - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My request is almost the exact opposite of this page, they want their cars to be able to use the rSAP profile on the N1,what I want is for the N1 to be able to connect to another device and use its sim. I have 2 T-Mobile sims, one has data, but no calling or text, and my other sim has voice and text, but no data. What I want to do it have the data sim in my N1 and leave my voice sim in another phone, and use the nexus to handle both.
Anyone have any ideas? I have a bootloader unlocked N1 running a rom that I pieced together from several roms on here that I can test on if anyone comes up with anything.

Tethering ?

[Q] Why isn’t sim card being recognized?

Hey all, I’m having problems with my sim card not working, my Captivate doesn’t recognize it at all. I got this captivate to hold on to from my older brother who is currently serving overseas (not possible for him to use phone) a few months ago. When I got it, I rooted it, sim unlocked it (I have t-mobile), and got to flash roms and have fun with it thanks to you good folks on these forums.
About 2 weeks ago, the speaker was issues that really bothered me(had to keep tapping it in to get It to work) so I decided to send it over to Samsung to fix. The phone was still under warranty, so it cost nothing to fix fortunately. I just got it back yesterday, and since then my t-mobile sim card would not work. I rooted, sim unlocked, and flashed many different roms and still not working. Its as if the phone thinks there is no sim card at all (“No SIM Card Emergency Calls Only”). I also tried this app called Samservmode, and enabled all bands (GSM/WCDMA) to see if it would work; it didn’t.
I was ready to call Samsung again, but when I went over to my friend’s house and tried his att sim card; it worked perfectly and I was able to send texts and make calls. So something must be wrong with my sim card, it works perfectly on my g1 though (my backup phone that was used while Captivate was away). I was able to use the same t-mobile sim for a few months in a row before I sent it to Samsung, isn’t this possible for me to do it again? Any advice on doing so would be much appreciated; thanks.
P.S. My t-mobile sim card is prepaid if that matters, so I don’t use 3g or edge or any data networks.
Also my current setup (if it even helps, I've been flashing between froyo and ginger nonstop trying to fix this issue)
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband: I897UCKB1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Phone number and network is unknown
Mobile network type: HSDPA
Service state: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Everything else works pretty fine on this phone (wifi, bluetooth, etc.)
UPDATE: I went back to my friend's place and with his att sim card in, I tried adding a t-mobile APN based on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744535
Unfortunately this did not resolve the issue. I did this with his att sim card because when there is no sim (or in my case, my tmobile sim) in the phone, you can't access mobile networks in settings.
I am also currently on stock I897UCKH3
UPDATE 2: So I just tried my other friends t-mobile sim card (that is on a plan) and the captivate had service; was able to make calls and text. My prepaid sim card seems to be the culprit here. I don't understand because as I tested my friends sim card on the captivate, I also put my sim card in his iphone 3gs (unlocked) and it worked fine there. Is the captivate on strike against my sim card or something? I'm going to try calling t-mobile tomorrow (doubt they'll help since the captivate isn't their phone) and see if anything can be done. In the meantime if you guys have any advice, I'm all ears.
UPDATE 3 (This is getting kind of annoying): I just got off the phone with both Samsung and T-mobile and both of them don't know what to think. I'm beginning to think this is a special case and this problem only occurred to a very few amount of people. If anyone can help with suggestions I would be very grateful. I'm thinking about going to a t-mobile store today to see what they think, maybe seeing the issue in person would help in their perspective.
Doubt anyone is going to answer or even post, but here goes:
BUMP
I also went back to stock and followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881162
with no success.
You try getting a new sim card?
Sent from my I897 using xda premium
Does T-Mobile have any policy of replacing prepaid sim cards? If so, that sounds like your best option. Also, Samsung might have been angry at you cheating their system, and purposefully disabled your sim card. Make sure you take out your sim before sending it back for repair.
Thanks for the reply guys, much appreciated. I decided to just live with it and keep the captivate as a galaxy s wifi if you will for media purposes only like an ipod touch. My g1 will be a phone. Once the nexus prime comes out I will start up a contract and finally experience 4g speeds and w/e else I can get with a contract thats not available on prepaid.
Also I did not send Samsung the phone with the sim card in, idk how they must've known to block it. Thanks again.

[Q] Phone not accepting Virgin UK sim.....or any other sim.

Hi all, I am in real need of some help here. I have a S3 Mini GT-I8190N. It is an unlocked 02 phone. I have a Virgin uk sim (rolling monthly contract). I simply do not understand why my S3 mini will not accept it. I've tried several custom roms. ( at this moment I'm using AOKP Golden KitKat) I've also tried various stock roms. Started by updating the original stock rom which came with the phone. No matter what I've tried my sim will not allow me to make/receive calls or texts. On one occasion it was allowing me on to the internet but still wouldnt let me make calls etc. The sim does work in other phones. I have tried a mates 3 uk sim and also an unused O2 payg in the S3 mini. Neither worked. I should also mention that the phone recognises the Virgin uk sims number and if I don't insert any sim it notifies me that sim is not present. I've been puzzling over this for a week and my head is battered. I should mention that whilst I am no genius, am I not an idiot. There must be something I'm overlooking. Unless of course the phone is just kapput. If anyone out there has had a similar problem with Virgin sim or can offer me any advice then please let me know. This is beginning to make my teeth itch!!! Cheers.

[Q] Swapping ROMS on Straight Talk

I just got straight talk working on my ATT Note 3. (SMS, MMS, data, calls inbound and outbound working) But I heard that the SIM card is locked to that phone forever. And I heard that flashing a new ROM will make it where the card won't activate on the new ROM. Then i would have to spend the money and buy a new card Is this true? or is this with the IMEI only? also I can't seem to check my data usage on Straight Talk. When I text 611611 "usage" it force closes the phone. I'm thinking it could be the ROM so that's why I was discussing about how safe it is to swap ROMS on straight talk and if they can be re-activated after a ROM flash.

the regional unlock thread has the side affect of unlocking the sim as well"you wont need this except if you want to travel international ". And changing the rom has no affect on your already activated sim you just have to re-enter the apn settings into the new rom. And your sim chip is portable from one at&t phone to another as long as it will fit in the phones sim chip slot. So no you wont need a new sim card if you change roms. I really wouldn't advise you to change roms tho. If you don't know what you're doing you could brick your phone.

[Q] Dual sim adapter support for Nexus 6 (STK apk)

Hi everyone,
I know this is an obscure one and I may be the only one who wants this sort of thing but I live in the mountains and like to use T-Mobile but also keep a Verizon (PagePlus) SIM on hand with a cheap plan as sometimes I have to enter T-Mobile roaming areas and need more data than is allotted for roaming use.
Anyway, I have a Verizon Moto X (XT1060) and a dual sim adapter which works awesome (i.e., I can switch back and forth between T-Mo and Verizon service without rebooting using the Sim ToolKit (STK) app, which pops up when the phone sees the dual sim adapter installed).
I've installed the dual sim adapter in my Nexus 6 (Play Store unlocked version) and while the Sim Toolkit does seem to pop up once the adapter is inserted (and the T-Mo SIM seems to work still - see attached screenshot) it then crashes when trying to switch between sims and disappears from the launcher altogether (you can try and resurrect it via a "Activity" in Nova Launcher but it still doesn't work and just says the app isn't installed). In doing some research it seems like the STK apps in AOSP ROMs don't work very well (which might explain why this scheme works well in the Moto X) but I was curious as to if anyone has had any experience with this problem.
Since the Nexus 6 has such unbelievable cellular radio support across pretty much any network, CDMA and GSM/LTE alike, it seems like it'd be a great platform for the use of a dual sim system, which is why I'm kind of surprised it wasn't a dual sim phone to begin with...expecially since Android 5.1 is allegedly adding dual sim support but I think that may be mostly just a GUI to facilitate switching more than anything else.
I'm running the May 14 Euphoria 1.1 (OFFICIAL-20150514) with baseband MDM9625_104446.01.02.98R. I've tried a the .95 baseband as well, to no avail...and rebooting after switching SIMs doesn't seem to work either (and neither does just "waiting" a minute or two). I've also tried the stock ROM and it doesn't seem to work either...same sorts of issues. Finally, I should concede this might work better with a GSM / GSM SIM situation as opposed to a GSM / CDMA/GSM situation so perhaps it's a lost cause.
So yeah I just thought I'd throw this up in case anybody had any ideas on how to make this work.
No idea how, but out of interest, which adapter have you got? I'd like one.

Hi! I got mine on Amazon...XDA won't allow me to post a URL but the name of the accessory is "LOPURS 2 in 1 (Dual SIM Card Multi-SIM Card + Tray Holder) for iPhone 5/5S/5C(Dark blue)." Even though it's for iPhones allegedly it does seem to work ok on the Android platform as well (at least, on my Moto X).
It's definitely weird looking but with a case around the Nexus it seems to fit alright.
Here's one for the Samsung Galaxy S5 on Amazon, but seems there's quite a few different ones to choose from:

Curious with the 5.1 update if this will work natively. It's been advertised that dual sim support is built into 5.1.
What's your experience? Any updates?

Unfortunately the adapter doesn't work with 5.1 or 5.0...one is able to launch the 'Sim Cards' activity (this gets you to the new SIM Cards settings menu in 5.1) via Nova Launcher by setting up an Activity widget but since (I think) the adapter can only work with one SIM at a time (it seems to block one or the other altogether depending on which is selected) the new functionality in 5.1 appears to not be useful in working with the adapter...I think it'll only work with phones that are dual-SIM by default.
I accidentally destroyed my last adapter (they're extremely delicate, and are hard to install with SIM tray-type phones) so I'll try this again once I get a new one using the Android M developer preview...fingers crossed!
Thanks for the update! 'Preciate it.
So...this can be marked resolved. It turns out that the Nexus 6 accepts the dual SIM adapter just fine (takes a reboot or two, but it eventually settles in and works great) and I successfully used it with two T-Mobile US SIM cards. The issue was the Verizon SIM containing some sort of CDMA code that was (I'm guessing) fouling up the changeover and crashing the adapter's firmware and/or the STK app. The odd thing is that it did work on my Moto X XT1060...but after trying again I noticed that voice support never actually worked on the Moto with the SIM adapter installed (nor did eHRPD or 1X data - only LTE worked) so it appears that CDMA just isn't compatible with the adapter(s) I've been using. I did see that MagicSIM offers an adapter that's allegedly compatible with CDMA but I'm a bit skeptical honestly and these adapters are just too delicate to spend $30-$40 on.
So, in conclusion, this functionality is absolutely do-able but it requires two GSM SIM cards as opposed to one GSM and one CDMA/LTE.
In any case it'd be totally awesome if LTE/CDMA-GSM changeovers could be accomplished with a different adapter...so if anybody ever has any luck with that please post! Thank you for the replies.

With the GSMx2 sims, how much functionality did you get? Could you receive calls on both numbers? Did you get a prompt when dialling which number to call from?
Unfortunately you only get very basic functionality. All the adapter is capable of is switching between the SIMs...once it's switched to one or the other it can only see that one SIM. You can set it to automatically switch back and forth in time intervals but I bet that can get really annoying sometimes if you're in the middle of a call or web browsing session or something...not sure if the adapter is smart enough to know not to interrupt a call or download with a switchover...I bet not!
I know that actual dual SIM phones can do what you describe but unfortunately none that I've been able to find have the vast frequency support of the Nexus 6 so it's kind of a conundrum...I really wish Google had made the Nexus a dual SIM setup...big missed opportunity IMO.
But in any case the adapter can help if you're a frequent traveller or have a work and personal phone or whatever and you don't wish to swap SIMs all the time...or if you're like me and just need two carriers to fill in each others' coverage gaps and can use Google Voice to route your main number to both carrier numbers.

That wouldn't be too bad I suppose as long as a reboot isn't required. I forward work to personal anyway and just turn work phone on when I need to make a call.

[Q] Experiences with AA and Dual SIM Phones

Hi all !
Does anyone of you also have issues when connecting a Dual SIM phone to AA and trying to place & receive calls ?
In my case - when i connect my OnePlus X (CM13 Custom ROM), AA and the Phone crashes if i do not set a default SIM for outgoing calls in the Phones SIM settings (Option "ask before each call").
I couldn´t try with Stock ROM because this caused Bluetooth Errors with the Cars Media System (no Contact Sync)
Headunit is a SEAT Media System Plus (Alhambra 7N 2016)
Hello fellow OpX user.
I've not got a secondary SIM so can't answer your question. However we are both using the same phone and head unit so I was wondering what your experience with AA is like?
I'm on stock and although it works well I do seem to get constant disconnects, especially if I'm travelling on a specific section of road I can guarantee it'll disconnect there.
Do you have issues this issue on cm13?
Oh and I fixed the Bluetooth contacts issue with an app called Bluetooth Phonebook. Just the HU can't read text messages
I think it is because of your ROM. I also use a custom CM13 Rom (Mokee, on a nubia z7 mini) and for me it works. The disadvantage however, is that I have to select which sim to use on the phone. So it does not offer me a choice on the headunit but only on the phone itself. If I do not select a sim on the phone, the call simply does not go trough.

Hi !
I'm running Sultans CM13 Rom for almost 3 months now and it's working perfectly well.
I have nearly no disconnects in AA and Bluetooth is also stable (phonebook, messages...)
The Problem i described in my first post was caused by my flip cover - when it's closed while connected to Bluetooth handsfree and i place a call the phone APP crashes - seems to be a common bug caused by proximity Sensor.
-> not ROM related..
At least for me switching to a custom Rom was the best decision....

Cheers @error23 that's interesting that you have no issues on Sultan's ROM. I'm beginning to suspect my issues lie with either GPS signal (but I think that'd be more random) or when switching between certain types of Cell Masts as it's always in particular locations or routes.
Out of interest, which country are you in and do you know which bands your network uses for LTE? I'm in the UK on o2 which only uses band 20 for LTE.
At the moment I'm running the OnePlus marshmallow community build.
Thanks

I'm in austria on the 3 network - using LTE Band 3 (1800MHz) and 7 (2600MHz). I have no disconnects when changing cells, even not when it falls back to 3G or national roaming (which is 2G)
But - as mentioned - OOS didn't run stable with AA for me and i expect its Bluetooth related, but who knows

I am afraid there is no real solution. I still have to select the Sim card I want to use on my phone. It looks like Android Auto is not really ready for dual sim use. When using voice dialling however, it once asked me which sim I wanted to use. To this day, I am still waiting for it to happen a second time since it looks like a very useful feature.
I am using a Moto Z Play with 2 SIMs. The issue I have is that I am able to make phone calls from Android Auto ONLY if the SIM being used to make the call is the same SIM which is being used for data at that point in time.
I am unable to make the call if I use SIM 1 as my default Data SIM and SIM 2 as my Default Voice SIM and vice versa - the error I get is "Network not available".
I thing this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
Incoming calls seem to work fine though.
Anybody with similar experiences?
Best,
Krish
Yeap, that's me, unfortunately. I am waiting for a possible fix by Google, because it is rather uncomfort having to disable the 2nd SIM each time I enter my vehicle.

I am using Xiaomi Mi5 Global edition running Android 6.0.1 on MIUI version 8.1.2 Stable. Android Auto version running: 2.2.710804-release. Exactly same issue as yours.
My default SIM setup: SIM 1 for data and SIM 2 for calls and text. When using only one SIM for both calls and data, Android Auto works fine. However, with my dual sim setup, I get "Network not available" when I try to make calls. Incoming calls and texts are working fine though...
Hello,
Oneplus2 Oos 3.5.8
After some test I confirm that using same default SIM for both call and data is needed to use outgoing call in AA. If not (or if call setting is 'ask everytime'), I got the Network not found message.
Yesterday I did a real quick test with the app Dual Sim Selector Pro using basic settings. It did work, even if I was very surprised. Later I bought the app and start to configure my phone.
This morning, it was no longer working.
I was going to give up and I read this message about the android setting needed to be similar in data and call.
IT SEEMS TO WORK!!!!
My setup:
SIM 1 is for private matter and I use mostly this one for data
SIM 2 is work related
In Android settings:
Default call: SIM 1 (my dream setup was to use SIM 2 but w/e)
Default SMS: SIM 2 (mayble i'll have problem to use sms app but I dont use it while driving)
Default Data: SIM 1
In Dual Sim Selector pro:
Main screen: activated, SIM 1 as main
Automatic select screen: activated, and in group tab I've go my works groups with SIM2 and private groups with SIM1.
When using Android Auto, the calls are made with the right sim!!!!!
Anyone interested in a dual sim add-on for AA?
Hi everyone!
It is quite a while ago that someone last posted in this thread. So far I was reading in this forum regularly but did not post anything yet
Since I use a dual sim phone (Samsung Galaxy S10) with my private and my business sim card running in parallel I also was facing problems when dialing while driving with Android Auto - in phone screen mode, but I will get a new car with support for projection to in-dash head unit soon . AA does not allow me to select the sim card to dial with for the next call when Android Auto UI is shown.
This was anoying me so much that I started to develop a simple Android app which allows my to select the right sim card easily while driving. It is a kind of unofficial add-on for Android Auto. It is doing the job well now but is only tested on my personal device.
Are there other dual sim phone users in the XDA community that are interested in using / testing my helper / add-on app? If so I would try to publish it in Google Play Store as a public beta. It is free! Please give your brief feedback in this thread.
