Any Aviation Buffs Out There ? - Off-topic

Hey guys.
Been wanting to put this thread up for a long long time now.
So yeah, here i'm. I have always been wondering if there are any other aviation buffs like me around on XDA ?
If you like planes/airports/pilots do post and let us all know !
If you are a diecast collector/pilot/AME/spotter or just love aircrafts do post here.
We can start a kind of a discussions.
Hope there are a few out there.
Cheers

I am! I love aviation!
I was planning to follow some sort of job within aviation in the future, but I've now decided against it (To damn expensive...)
But Im still working on my PPL! Few hours under my belt

I'm an aviation enthusiast!
How do I know this? Well, I'm pretty much the only one of my mates who knows that every plane in the sky is NOT a 747, or that airbus ISN'T literally a flying bus...
Oh, and this plane: http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/su27/images/su27_2.jpg makes me weak at the knees...

I am rapidly becoming a greater enthusiast... I work for Boeing at the Everett, WA plant building 747's

Nice man ! that would be Paine field ? You get to see some 788s rollout every day ! That is nice ! What's the progress on the 748s ? You can actually become our secret source within Paine filed
What job do you do at Boeing ?

I do work on the 747-8 in the main factory, which is just north of Paine field. I work in final body join, where they actually assemble the sections of airplane. The crew I work on installs landing gear, flaps and fairing panels. Its pretty boring assembly work, but it pays the bills.
In Boeing news today, the first 747-8 Intercontinental is being joined... you can probably see it if you google it... All other news no one will really care about. And I have been able to see a bunch of 747's, 787's, 767's and 777's leave the factory. It happens every week. The coolest part of working in the main factory is the shear size of the building. It is freaking huge... the largest by volume in the world!

That's nice to know ! But IMHO 748 is pretty darn ugly ! Look at 77Ws or 788s or the A388 they are sooo much better looking !
Actually i have never been a part of the 74X family !
Wow man ! Can you please get us some pictures ? Would be nice to share on the aviation forums i'm on.
How about the test flights they must be fun to watch.
Do you see any Air India dreamliners or 77Xs on the assembly ?
Thanks man.

already interesting. Although 18 replies for now, already you see that this XDA product is used by young people and not the 'Managers of the world'..
I think this poll is more likely to show that younger thinkers will be attracted to a forum such as this, more than the profile of actual users. I guess I am a manager in this world, though I'm also a hands-on person too. I'm in the technology business because I love technology, and I love making my life easier and more interesting through the application of technology. The XDA is one of those things that has delivered business value for me AND is a fun thing to have. I look for excuses to mess with it and experiment, which is why I am here.

I've heard. In my part of the US, we get what we call "snowbirds" for the cooler months. They are old people who should not be driving any more who come down for our warm desert climate. They drive huge vehicles with no competence and no eyesight. Fun on a bike.
im only just 17 i picked up my xda for a bargain on ebay £190 exellent cond was dropped and one corner has a dent in (near the ir lens) but it works fine come with everything not even used  i wanted a 7650 but i seen this for £190 so i got it ive had it for about 4 months now still going nice and good. I like it because it is like a pc and the games are brill and also i wanted mp3 lol
36 so I must be mature....
but also on two wheels. Some say it's immature but I didn't have the money for a bike when I was younger and I will never lose interest in technology and gadgets.
I have one example that this will stay that way. My mother in law (haha you say LOL). She is much older but is very interested in PC's and technology and recently started with some serious digital photography.
hmmmm, two paragraphs already and I still haven't convinced myself that getting older is no problem
I'm 18. I'm in the US and bought the XDA as a reward for myself after working full time all summer as a computer programmer for the local telco (BellSouth).

i have a Piaggio X9 500se - its a scooter. i know it isn't a true motor-cycle but due to past accidents on 'bikes my ability to change gear is limited - or should i say non-existent. so it's a scooter for me, although it looks like a motor-bike.

How the hell do these people manage to afford this.. I got unlucky, lost my old phone, insurance paid out. Then got the XDA. Being unlucky made me lucky as well.
It was a Siemens ME45 that I lost. A very very good phone. Should be getting the S55 in a few days. Stupid name, but damn good phones in my experience.
I've had Siemens C45i, ME45, SX56 (XDA). And getting a S55 with camera soon hopefully...

Ironic is it...I'm as geeky as a girl can get, and I have the hardest time finding a guy! The vast majority of you just aren't interested in a girl that is smart, makes a good living, would rather spend the day playing with an XBox than going shopping... but isn't drop-dead gorgeous with a sexy, hot body. I seem to generally attract the loser types that are 40 and still living with their parents.

Sad, huh? I work as a freelance programmer (have a popular ecommerce software package that I sell and support), set up my own home network, do a lot of beta testing and reviewing for other people, and so on. Like a fair number of geeks though, I didn't have great social skills growing up, didn't really fit in with girls my age. So always feel like I'm playing catch-up now.
Geez, this wasn't a topic I really expected to get into on here!
Ive recently started to develop a case of yellow fever. That seems to be your best bet if you are looking for nerdy and cute girl. However its a matter of taste, not everyone is into that.
As with all stereotypes, its not true 100% of the time, but its it has been for me so far.
A lot of us geeks got our first real social skills from forums like these.... that's not entirely a good thing, either. lol

You know, that's very true in my case. I've been networking online since the earliest days of the web and even before that on BBS's (anyone remember those?!) I was much more introverted and shy then, these days I am far more confident and articulate in large part due to all the years of throwing myself into the middle of discussions online. And yeah, it's a catch-22 for sure. I do think some guys are intimidated by me, not so much even that I am brainy, but because I do have opinions of my own and will argue for them. Not to the point of being argumentative by any means, and in a real fight I will almost always back down first...but I know I've thrown some guys off because they will make some statement about something political or such, and I'll just come right out with "Oh, I don't agree with that at all." For all that men will talk about wanting someone who is witty and intelligent, etc. I often find that they aren't sure how to handle it when they get it.
To quote my avatar....

whats with "bro"

what's with the whole "bro" calling deal?
I havent been huge on forums for about 3 years until i found this site for my phone. now i come on here atleast 4 times an hour.
but ive noticed that the new thing is to call everyone bro. at first i thought it was an insult because where i live "california" it's an insult to call someone a bro
ie. everyone makes fun of the "bro" seen like sideways hat wearing dirt biking big truck lifted high enough to need red airport lights...
am i missing something with the bro deal?

No it isn't bro. And someone who must have put huge amounts of thought into creating his handle shouldn't be concerning themselves with something this trivial.

Down here, to call somewhere a bro or a "brother" is a sign of respect. Or maybe that might just be me.
hahahahaha!!! I'm started to see how this post was a bad idea.
thanks guys!
yes I know bro = brother. just never seen it used so much in my life until recently. i joined a few forums and noticed everyone using it.
My intention was not to send this topic in a negative direction at all. just wondering what may have started the "thanks bro" response across the forums of the net.
I'm from orange county. And bro means a two things here.
stereo type & family.
95% used as a stereo type or insult to joke about a certain type style or appearance.
oh....
orange county....
how is it in marin? what reaction does bro induce there?
you'd be hard pressed to believe it, but i'm actually very interested in this.
thats way up past san fran. not to sure but as a remember thats the same area that start the term "hella"
gotcha.
in case you're wondering why i care, it's because i have a BS (NOT bachelor of science) degree in geographical demographic linguistics with a concentration in regional technical vocabulary and a minor in inverted mind reading.
yeah. believe it
bro
brosef
brobinz
are you comfortable with the "lol" word?
that bugs me the most!
lol
ya i used to hate "lol" too but once i got the meaning understood i use it alot. i just think of it as the person to be laughing, as opposed to actually thinking "laugh out loud".

Ambiguous and Skin shirts, Famous hats (sideways, of course) and West Coast Choppers sunglasses. The mandatory F-350 with the 13" lift and 57" mud crawlers. Two dirt bikes in the bed, can't forget about those.
Either that, or driving like an idiot in Daddy's Yukon Denali or Escalade EXT, cutting you off and being a moron with his three other bro's in the truck with him.

Yeah man, we all want to be black I say Bro all the time and I do not fit the description of what any of you guys listed. I am not exactly rich, dont have a lifted anything, and sure as hell don't want to be black. It is totally completely dependent on how the word is used. If I say " whats up brotha, or bro" that is an act of friendliness. If I say "F_ _ _ you bro" that is something you would punch someone in the mouth for. Just learn to read people better and you'll no what there intentions are.

First off, I think you are way off base. It seems to me that you are the one stereo-typing.
I for one have 3 lifted vehicles, all 4wd, because I like to play off road. One 1973 Jeep CJ5, one 1988 Ford Bronco and one 2006 Jeep Wrangler. I also have 2 dirt bikes and 2 quads. I used to race motocross and still enjoy riding and nature. Have you ever tried getting away, outdoors, on your own all by yourself. I also wear a hat about 60% of the time but it is never sideways. Always straight forward unless I turn it around backwards to keep it from flying off while riding with the tops off of my Jeeps. I also own a Ford Expedition, not lifted, standard mostly as a matter of fact, married and with a 5 year old son who loves to ride as well off road whether it be in the 4wd or on his own quad or dirt bike.
Maybe you need to step outside sometime and get some fresh air and quit your stereo-typing.

Your thoughts on my short film

Hey guys, I would love to hear your opinions on my short film that i've made. This is my 2nd short film including my student short film from last year.
We spent about $300 for the whole short film, pre-production to completion. We didn't have much money to make the movie to begin with, so we went in and hoped for the best. The crew was very small too, but I guess we have to start somewhere
I encountered many problems, which you'd expect for such a low budget short film (especially actors), but I've learnt from those mistakes as I begin writing my next short film and hope for a much better output for the next one.
We got busted by the police for the traffic light scene with helicopters and all, but they were nice enough to let us go.
enjoy and let me know what you think

Sounds like you had some fun doing that! I would watch it, but I have to watch my download use for the rest of January... 10 days and we have used up 3/5 of our quota... and the movie file size is about 350mb I think it says, so tomorrow morning (off-peak ;D). Looks rather professional in the very first part!

Well, firstly, you have a great camera-man! Those panning shots were smooth and I didn't see much if any shuddering etc. The focus is great, works especially well with the lights in the night, gives it some visual depth.
Music was soft and helpful for meaning in some scenes, and that keychain/locket was a good symbol for realising which car it was.
The actors weren't that bad in my opinion, way better than anything I could ever do Like others have said, it's more professional than I was expecting! The storyline was a bit confusing at times (or maybe it was me...) but I guess there's only so much you can fit into 16 minutes, so well done there.
Great job overall, keep up the good work! 'Liked' Maybe you should consider entering it somewhere, I'm not sure what's on in Sydney but it's worth a shot.
Just one thing though, why were you busted for the traffic light scene? Were you there for a while or something? I guess we only saw a tiny bit...

It's related to his past and the continued mental suffering he had every night. Especially the hallucinations caused by the pills he took to calm his anxiety attacks, which he didn't know were caused by the pills and was always stuck in this loop of events that haunted him, which is why the ending when Sandra's mother takes the pills from him, he is now able to deal with the past better because of the truth but also because the pills aren't there to bring back those hallucinations anymore to play with his mind again.

That's more than half the fun! I have had some friends make very very short films, one of them they dressed up as a yeti and walked around the local streets So many cars stopped! I think one even started chasing them... still good times. I'll do my best in helping you with advice etc!

Haha, I would've loved to see that!!
The one other thing I have to mention about this movie was the fact that the main character didn't know how to drive a car properly, he was very very bad actually. 'Smoke and mirrors' made him look like a very good driver in the end.

We got busted by the cops because we had one car sit in the middle of the road high beaming the main characters car (when his face lights up as the other car speeds up towards him). This was around 11pm and the neighbours probably thought were doing something illegal like preparing for a drag race (we were beaming each other for 10 minutes) All of a sudden the ground illuminates and we look up and see a helicopter shining a light towards us, a minute later police arrive :\
The story was confusing at times but I made it so you essentially had to look back at even the subtle stuff he did, such as taking the pills then immediately after seeing the ghost car and girl to get a drift of the story.
To ease the confusion a bit for everyone, he was chasing himself. I left it open in one of the sections when Sandra reveals her name. In the story the character say's he doesn't know her however if the pills were causing only hallucinations, then how does he know he name. I left this part open for the audience to think for themselves. Did he know her name because of her death being mentioned at school but had completely forgotten about her until that night when he finally chases his own car and meets the girl or was she really a ghost who came down to tell him the truth about her actions.
The story was too complex for a short film but I think it was only after seeing so many simple linear short films that I wanted to take a different approach.
About entering it into festivals. I'm worried that the film isn't "good enough" yet to be shown at film festivals because of the small problems here and there. I'm trying to create a short film that really stands out at the film festivals and I personally don't believe this film is there yet.
Glad you liked it
I'm watching it right now, seen half of it, slow streaming
pretty cool, love it
only you have one problem, the camera shadow appears look at the photo

Yeah I noticed that, but I couldn't do anything about it because by the time the other car turns left, it doesn't leave much room to fit in that shot and to give it the same kind of impact. I wanted to cut on the action of the main character turning left to the motion of the car but unfortunately the street lights caused a shadow. In the end, it was a very small problem that I couldn't to cut out because the content of the material was more important than the shadow appearing.

That would be an experience! You should tell that story at parties and stuff But I guess if I was one of the neighbours I would be a little worried... still at least you got off safe!

I thought the pills may have had something to do with it! But I was still tired when I was watching it, so it didn't click then But when you say it like that, it does fall into place, so maybe it's a better plot than I thought
And different approaches are always good

Believe it or not, that single traffic light scene was the hardest part of the whole film. We were running against the time especially having to deal with a public road and waiting for the road to clear on both sides for the other car to drive straight through... oh my goodness, what a nightmare hehe.

Thanks hehe, yeah the plot appears to jump here and there but hopefully if the viewers pay attention to the small stuff that happen, then maybe the bigger picture makes more sense.

Advice for a Apple Hiring Event please ?

Hello,
I've been invited in an Apple Hiring Event for next monday.
They said: " Feel free to dress business casual "
Does it mean that Business Casual is recommended or ... ?
I was thinking about wearing: Blue Jeans, Black V Neck T Shirt and Black Shoes.
That should be fine ?
Do you have any advices ?
Thanks
Wear business casual... Nice fitting slacks with a pressed, ironed long sleeve button down tucked in. Dress shoes too. Shave your face, get a haircut, come prepared. Bring two pens, a few copies of your resume and cover letter, and have several questions prepared for them. The guys who get jobs will be wearing that and doing those things. Good luck man.
Sent from my LG G2x
Awesome ! Thank you so much =) !
Other advices ?
Bring your android device?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Off course I will =)
I think you should wear new balance sneakers, jeans, and a black turtle neck, also glasses, and shave your hair. You don't have to shave your face.
You want me to look like S Jobs, don't you ?

Yeah. Have a bloodtype compatible with Steve Jobs, and don't drink before the interview. They might want to check your liver's status.
use a lot of words like "demand" and "now" when they ask you about what you would like to make hourly. also, try to look drunk, even if you aren't. employers love somebody who can also have fun in the work place.
and try to fabricate everything you say and over-exaggerate your success thus far in life. make them need you. if none of that works, for pitty, have a story prepared for them about how your mother has cancer and can't pay her medical bills. don't forget to look like you are fabricating this story as well, employers love creativity and a "do whatever it takes" attitude to get what they want.
also, they will appreciate a technical mind, so make sure that you talk about the ins and outs of your android device. and show them you can sell a customer by convincing them that android phones are way ahead of the curve and anything else is archaic and bland. try to show passion on this subject as well, maybe even a little bit of hostility and threatening tone in your voice, they need to know you can hold your own in a tough work environment.
go get 'em champ, you'll do great.

All great advice, but if you really want to stand out from the crowd and make an impact then I strongly recommend nudity. I guarantee they'll remember you. You'll be the guy they talk about round the water cooler.

Well done man - you obviously made a good impression, so you've got the hardest part over and done with.
Others will probably disagree, but whenever I'm asked for a formal interview I go in a suit. I'd at least wear smart trousers with a shirt and tie.
Thanks for replying !
I've been reading lot of things and they said that a suit may be .. Overdressed ?
Thanks
Hello ! I went at the 2nd Interview and I talk to a man for about 45minutes.
He said that they are going to email me later for a background check.
Am I close ?
