Browser woes in froyo

In eclair double tapping to zoom seemed to work in the browser. It would even reformat the text so that it all fit in the window. I can't seem to replicate that behavior in froyo. It zooms in a little but doesn't change the text.
Also, YouTube videos don't seem to open in the YouTube app anymore. They open in the browser video player(I'm guessing) which has fewer features (no soft menu w/ sharing options)
I know its leaked software but is that just how 2.2 operates? Anyone else able to replicate these minor annoyances I'm having?

Yes I am also running froyo and it seems the zoom is off.

So I was poking around through the settings and there's a check box that must have been checked by default in 2.1. Its called "auto-fit pages" check that and the zoom of old works

[Q] How to view sites in desktop?

Hi i was trying to get some info as to why i am unable to view many sites in desktop view even with user agent set to desktop? Also i have tried some other browsers for example opera, dolphin, skyfire and set them to desktop view to no avail. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Um... you mean landscape?
I have as of yet to find a site that I couldn't view this way.
What sites are you going to that are giving you this issue? Also... is the phone set to auto-rotate when you flip it from horizontal to landscape?
nope
No landscape mode works fine what i mean is i get directed to the mobile versions of site as apposed to the full versions. (desktop versions)
aha that is the fault of the site ebbs not the phone. they are picking up your cookie info and using it to determine your on a mobile device.

ah so is there no way to stop that from happening cause my girlfriends aria doesn't have this problem?
try typing "about:useragent" in the address bar.
I might be wrong, but i'm pretty sure if you use the SkyFire Browser for android, their is a "desktop mode" option. You can toggle sites being viewed in mobile or desktop mode i believe..
do some experiment dude. it should work.. try using miren browser then switch the user agent into desktop chrome in d settings.

Thanks for all of your answers as for the about:user agent it brings up a selection with andriod, iphone, desktop, and custom but no matter what i pick it always goes back to custom. and as for skyfire like i said ive tried that as well as dolphin both set as desktop but neither actually give me a desktop view as for that last browser suggestion i will give that a try here in a bit and get back to you. This such a strange issue i still don't understand why its only the captivate having this issue as my girlfriends aria and my buddies backflip don't have this.
thats kinda weird huh. enweiz gudluck

[Q] Keyboard takes up whole screen in browser

Since I rooted my Nook color this morning, when I am in the browser and go to type in a box, instead of pulling up the keyboard on half the screen and leaving the browser window on top, it pulls up the large text typing box. Is there a way I can restore this so I can see the browser too? I've poked around in the settings and tried searching for keyboards in the forums, but that came up with a zillion results.
This is for when browsing in landscape mode. (Vertical seems to be working fine.) I've tried changing from the default browser to Skyfire, but no luck.
Many keyboards are just like that, unfortunately. I know that SlideIT actually lets you see the browser when in landscape, though. You could give that or another keyboard a try.

If your willing to pay......
Better Keyboard Pro version 8 has an option to Resize the keyboard, there is also a free version but I'm not sure if it has that option. (was trying to upload a pic so you could see but not enough posts yet)
The Gingerbread keyboard displays correctly in landscape mode. There are several threads with information, including a download link to an apk that works for 2.1
If you prefer your current keyboard for portrait typing, there is an app on the market called Keyboard Manager that will change your keyboard automatically based on device orientation.

I never notice this till today, for some reason when i try to open a picture sent to me via text, I press the play icon on the screen and just for less the a secon I can see the picture but it goes back to the message; it wont stay open. please help.

If its a pic just long press and save or view attachment. Might work.
Yea its me again with the
Modified Hero
Yeah, it's a hit or miss for me. When I can't view it, I do what he said above me.
The only problem with saving is if it's an animated .gif file, it won't animate. And if I'm not mistaken, stock messaging won't animate either. Not 100% since I haven't used stock messaging for quite some time.

[Q] mail link

I am hoping someone can help.
Xoom, 3.2 rooted. I use Opera Mobile as the default browser.
Right now, when I click on any URLs in an email, the Xoom grays out the screen but doesn't open any browser to the URL like it used to. Normally, if you have 2 browser, Android asks which one you want to open it with. Now it does nothing but dims the screen as if it was trying to bring up the dialog but it never does.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
This is a well known and well documented bug in 3.2.
The simple solution is to make sure auto-rotation is enabled and then rotate your Xoom from landscape to portrait and back. The app chooser will come up and you will be able to choose which app to use to open the link. This will fix it for sometime but it will happen again and just do the same thing.
