I've been using Celb Froyo since I rooted my phone but have never messed with themes. Is there a good repository of themes that will work on it and if so are they easy to swap around? Thanks for any help.
I've found it's kinda hit and miss.
Currently I'm using Gomorahs BlackMod theme for the Hero on my Eris, works great. However, he upgraded the theme and the newest version kept giving me bootloops, and he's now run off with his EVO and no longer supporting the Hero.
I also tried Simplistic and had no problems with that one.

Download metamorph and busybox (if you don't already have them). Metamorph will create a folder on your sd card called AndroidThemes. Download a theme from this forum and move it to that folder. It doesn't matter if this theme is specifically for a certain Froyo rom AS LONG as it is for an Eris Froyo rom. CREATE A NANDROID FIRST. Open metamorph and follow the instructions. If you don't like the theme, morph another one or restore your nandroid.
There are several themes out there for Froyo roms. If I remember correctly, the pink theme has to be flashed from recovery instead of morphed (don't hold me to that). As long as you have a nandroid you can always revert if you have problems.

Thanks. I downloaded Metamorph and the Simplistic theme but it's being a pain.
Sometimes you have to flash a theme a few times to get everything to stick.

I am using the transparent chaos theme with CELB and it works out pretty good. You may have to flash it a few times though

Im guessing that other themes from MDPI CM6 roms will work as well. You just have to be sure its changing system app files and not system device specific files.
If metamorph works on Cm6 for you, wanna try the Ninja blur theme?
I would try it out but I dont use CM6 on my MTS, thats my G1's job.
I thought metamorph didn't work on the slide because we can't touch the system partition outside of recovery.

For users of the newly released sense froyo ROMs who can't stand the stock sense launcher I whipped up a quick espresso style morph (search for Metamorph here or the market) to hold everyone over until they are done getting this fully working so you don't have to deal with that pathetic stock launcher (odd considering HTC are essentially mobile interface gods to many of us here).
WORKAROUND FOR REPORTED ISSUE:
If you run into any issues it seems unzipping it outside of MM and dropping it into /sdcard/AndroidThemes manually should work around it.
http://labs.cities2night.com/droid/hakke_tenzo _tazz_sense _froyo_2.2_espresso_morph.zip
For those who asked about 2.1, yes should work fine. Nothing but PNGs are in this morph so it will work on any rosie launcher.
Screenshot attached.
Haven't tried it yet but thanks in advance!

Hey I have downloaded this several times, and I keep getting an error in metamorph, something about the way the .zip is set up... hoping to try it out, it looks really nice, but can't figure it out

Would this work for a 2.1 sense rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741875
I couldn't get this one in this thread to do anything period because it's not signed right according to Metamorph, but the one in the link I posted worked like a charm for xtrSense 4.6.

just fyi for anyone running Tenzo 2.2 Sense, this mm theme hangs while applying the htc.resources and then gets caught in a boot loop. I'll try to just apply the rosie theme and see if that takes at all.
EDIT: I knew it was a longshot to use a 2.1 theme on a 2.2 rom, but yeah it didn't take at all. Hopefully either i can figure out how to do hakkeshou's one or he will fix it.
It should work if you press menu in metamorph and then settings then check the box that says Disable all warnings, I extracted the entire zip into its own folder in androidthemes.

Wow thanks, that worked perfectly!
Thanks for feedback. Since I made the morph I just copied the filer to /sdcard/AndroidThemes so the issue seems to be caused by using MM to unzip the theme folder into that folder.
Odd but but at least my hunch was verified to be correct. I'll update the OP.

The two links above go to two themes that I'd like to use. They were meant for the Samsung Moment. I know that the Hero and Moment have the same screen resolution, but would anything else factor in into using these on the Hero?
If so, would anyone be able to port both/either or?
Thanks in advanced.
.The second theme was created for our hero running CM by gommorah (don't know if I spelled it right). But is no longer being maintained. If you look for Asimmons theme injector you can you update it merge it into your rom and flash it from recovery. I actually ran it and it works well.
You can try and see what it looks like
What rom are you running?

You can run asimmons theme injector with any theme and any rom but it only ports what matches from the theme
Gommorah moved on to the evo so he's not. Updating the theme

You might be interested in an alternative way to install MetaMorph themes. Its an app I've developed that builds flashable update.zip files onboard the device by combining your system files with the theme content.
Because it builds onboard using your system files, it preserves existing installed themes assuming one theme does not overwrite the other. It is also capable of installing more than one theme at a time via a single update.zip file.
I developed this app after getting tired of MetaMorph spontaneously rebooting the device near the end of the install process. I typically install more than one theme per new ROM flash and wanted to get all my themes installed in a single reboot. ZipThemer has satisfied that goal for me. Give it a try if you like... its free, donations gratefully accepted

Wow! I have been waiting for something like this. Metamorph is great, but I can very rarely get to the end of some of my themes. Thanks. I will have to try this later.
Sounds great, does it work with all metamorph themes? What about flashable ones? I have also had a lot of trouble using metamorph and wished there was an easy way to go back after using it.
thanks,
-Keith
There have been some limitiations found in the current version of ZipThemer. I'm working on fixing these for the next version which will work with more MetaMorph themes. ZipThemer does not work with flashable themes. It also doesn't create backups yet, so I suggest using Nand backup/restore for that now.

This seems like a good idea. One thought I've had about Metamorph, and maybe you could consider it as an option as well....
The most common cause of theme incompatibility aside from poor theme building or the use of XMLs is the "-v4" tags. If you could do a quick check for the presense or lack of these tags in the target APKs so the program doesn't try to create a drawable-hdpi or mdpi when a drawable-hdpi-v4 or mdpi-v4 already exists, you'd have a LOT more cross-platform theme capability.
Just a thought
Sounds do-able. Can you provide links to a theme and ROM image for which this is an issue? I'd be able to understand the problem and implement/troubleshoot faster... thanks,
Ken

Not at a location where I can browse around too easily, but you can generally look at any theme built for a custom rom vs. one built for a stock rom. Framework-res is particularly common to have this issue, but it can really be any apk. The folders of potential interest that I've seen are:
drawable-en-hdpi-v4
drawable-es-hdpi-v4
drawable-hdpi-v4
drawable-land-hdpi-v4
drawable-nodpi-v4
drawable-mdpi-v4
drawable-land-mdpi-v4
drawable-ldpi-v4
...then of course the same folders lacking the "-v4" would be the corresponding counterpart. There's probably a few other folders that can have a "-v4", but if you just have your script search for that tag then search the target or source file for the same folder lacking the tag, you should be good.
What if I put in general logic to prevent the addition of any new entries in the patched apks, regardless of the folder name? In other words, if the entry doesn't exist in the target it wouldn't be created. Only entries that already exist in the target apk would be updated if included in the theme file.

I wanted to say thank you for this app as well kellinwood. I've been pushing it alot with my themes for adding my sliders and other things that can't be addressed by theme chooser and am debating doing a Sense theme as well and will definately push it for that too. I like the fact that it creates an undo zip as well... Saves a lot of headaches for when people don't do a backup before applying a theme lol. No matter how much you remind people.. backup first... Most probably don't lol. They just don't think about it when they are in recovery I'm sure and if it's a MM they don't think to reboot and do a backup before applying it. Great work man

Thank you!
This truly is a wonderful accomplishment! Thank you! I just ported themes from Froyo to Gingerbread on Dream/Sapphire and recommending your app to make a zip for the Gingerbread ROM of their choice.
I am trying to make this compatible for other devices as well now. I know for a fact it works on Darkys ROM for Captivate so I think it may work on other gingerbread versions/Roms for the captivate as well. It has also been confirmed to work on i9000 jvp, jvq, and jvr gingerbread versions.
Flash it in Recovery. Always Backup first incase it causes any issues.

If Apps force close restore your back up, go into the theme zip and remove the apps that had problems then reflash the theme.
I do not have a Captivate, I am just going by what my testers have told me. So if you try it let me know how it goes.
Flashed over the top of the latest build of Serendipity VII.
Stuck in a bit of a weird bootloop.
- Booted up with the SVII boot screen.
- Rebooted by itself. Buzzed.
- Booted to what seemed to be the TouchWiz screen with a few icons.
- Rebooted by itself. Buzzed.
- Booted to the GoLauncher screen I had, custom icons showed up.
- Rebooted by itself. Buzzed.
Keeps doing it endlessly so I am going to pop the battery out and try again.
Oh...When the screen does come up briefly I can see the theme's icons' in the status bar.
Restore ur backup. Then Go into the theme zip and delete settings and launcher apk. For some reason captivate doesn't like the sgs2 launcher. Then reflash it with those apk removed.

you could install font changer donate version and install the font you want to use....not sure if it will work with the theme....but I use it for my Cappy on Mosaic VI and Laucher 7 Pro....I wanted the font from WP7 Segoe Light and was able to accompish that using Font Changer.

I removed the font from the .zip file and that worked.
Not sure if that was the best way, but appears to have worked
