I heard use pershot's kernel http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=1151. I haven't tested it though.

I had noticed that MIUI on AutoBrightness never got as dim as KOR / CM. Could just be me, but you might want to give a dim manual brightness setting a shot - you can download the Brightness Rocker app from the Market to manually control it via the volume keys.

Does anyone kno of an app that can lower the lowest brightness level? I tried screen filter but i dnt like the tint it uses n it kinda distorts the quality of images and videos shown. I tried googling stll no luck. The lowest brightness level is still brite at nite.....
Have you tried turning off the Auto brightness feature and then manually reducing the brightness in the display options?
If you turn off Auto Brightness in your Display Settings, you can run your finger left or right along the top slide-down menu bar (the one that displays time, battery, signal, etc) to decrease or increase the screen brightness.
Srry i meant lowering the brightness lower than the lowest level limit. The screen is still to brite for me at the lowest level at nite.

Use this software from Android Market,
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.curvefish.widgets.brightnesslevel&feature=search_result
Android Os will report you zero brightness when you change it in settings, but still it has 8% brightness enabled, so the above software will help you to pulling it back to original 0%
Even better than that, I remember supercurio (iirc, or was it hardcore?) hacked the SGS kernel to enable to an even lower brightness setting ages ago. However I haven't seen this hack integrated into any kernels for ages (unless I'm missing something and it's already there)
Hardcore's Speedmod K13E kernel for 2.2.1 has a super low brightness level
Try the dimmer app, it is better than screen filter, not as grainy.

any oficial rom with lowest minimal brightness?
thanks
I'm sorry to bring this up again...
I'm testing out the last build teamhacksung's CM9 and it came with a bunch of options to optimize the brightness.
Although I've been experimenting on this options for quite a while, the brightness is very irregular. At one moment is very dark and for no reason the brightness comes back up while I'm in total darkness.
Do you have any idea of what's causing this?
I get this as well. Also, the screen will auto-dim after a short time of inactivity. How to control this?

Also, I have a friend with the same software as me, everything the same and his Galaxy S gets much darker than mine. Even when we have them side by side.
Try Semaphore's kernel on THS ICS. It has its own auto brightness that works well and has a Dark setting.
That said, I still use screen filter on top of that in darkness.

Semaphore's kernel disables the BLN for me.
What I did was...
In the definitions put the dim level to 6. And then I added a button in the notification bar for brightness and I gave it the automatic and dim options.
That way when I'm inside doors I put it to dim and when I'm outside I change it to automatic.

In the same ROM as mine? Can you tell me where are the configurations for the BLN after installing the Semaphore kernel?

This app makes it just a bright as stock flashlight...
I want to overclock the LED!! just like Torch app
He is talking about torch from Cyanogenmod that has an "superbright" option.
-----------------------------
Theres an app called Nexus Torch that allows you to do that bright option.

My phone dies when I start this app in High Brightness
No the screen goes off, you have to press in the same place to get it back.
Because I think it takes the voltage from the LCD and gives it to the LED to make it brighter.
Nexus torch doesn't work proper too :'( doesn't anyone knows a good alternative i'm not only one using it am i!?!
disco light app, free in the market
Bump cause I want to know this The Nexus One torch makes my LED blink every couple of seconds (no, strobe is not on) but it doesn't do this in cyanogen. Running ARHD and would love an overclocked LED
Doesnt work for me on LeeDroid but here is the apk of the Cyanogen Torch. Might want to see if it works. Mine just force closes all the time until I uninstall it, the process somehow comes back and force closes a second time. All is fine after I uninstall it though.
Doesn't work
The Nexus One torch from the market works fine for strobe/normal brightness but high brightness has it flash on and off (about once every 2s) and turns the lcd screen off When running cyanogen, the torch.apk doesn't turn the screen off or flash.
I cant believe that there are no apps to do this. I think some of us might need to learn how to code lol
Yeah we got the APK it just needs to get fixed for the gingerbread roms because the apk i have worked on ARHD 3.x
Has anyone else noticed their D3 on stock ROM min brightness is 11%? I noticed since getting my D3 that it has always been pretty bright, even at min brightness level. And using the brightness toggle from Beautiful Widgets, I saw that the two options were 11% and 100%. Is this just the widget, or is the stock ROM set up to keep brightness at this minimum level?
I use my phone in the dark a lot and it kills my eyes to look at it for too long, so I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get the brightness down any lower without switching to a custom ROM. I am rooted, of course.
Thanks for any ideas/solutions.

Brightness Widget Backlight, in the market should work. It's has configurable steps that can go down to 1%. I'm using it on CM7 and can get it lower than the lowest brightness setting.
You can lower it with Quick Settings, but a reboot changes it back. The lower brightness appears to be used when the display dims from inactivity. If you are already on the lowest factory brightness setting it can still dim some more. Thats the only purpose I see of it.
I use Brightness Level from the market and it allows you to go lower than stock does. I believe that it keeps settings after reboot as well.
Sweet, awesome replies.
Lookup screen filter, and should be on the market if I remember correctly.

I just installed and tried Brightness Level and it doesn't allow brightness levels to go below the lowest stock level. I see no purpose to that widget since the Power Widget for android allows brightness level adjustment.
I'd love something that allows for true adjustment from 1% to 100% on the stock ROM.

I have used many jb roms but still have an issue when I go to browser the screen dulls away down..is there anyway to sort this in a setting that i've overlooked or is it a feature or bug in j.b itself..?

Simple setting.
Open the browser and click the menu touch button and go to brightness. now disable the auto brightness option.

Thanks for reply but why do I need to disable auto brightness I never had to in gingerbread or ICS...its not a big issue just wondering why it does this..
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
In ICS as well browser and video player has its on brightness settings.. So disable individual auto brightness to make it dim and light up as the other screens
My stock ics has its own video and browser brightness and its auto brightness. So even when i am on auto disabled mode like in the dark room. Its sometimes annoying.

Cheers for the replies guys I got it sorted..its a power saving setting I had to untick to stop the dimming its a setting that must have been added..)

Since there is no auto brightness, anyone know of a good power toggle widget that will do brightness on multiple or custom levels? The default 3 levels is too low, still too low, and burn my eyes. I'd like more levels or custom levels if it's stuck at 3.
Thanks! I did some googling but couldn't find "the one" widget.

It is not a screen widget, but the standard notification drawer widget has 5 levels. Dim, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%.
