Is there any way to downgrade 2.2.1 to 2.2?
Why would you want to?
Yes, there is, and it's not an easy one. And the update notification will bug you to no end. And judging by that you're running stock ROM, my suggestion - leave it as is.

I was using Universal Androot root on stock 2.2. The 2.2.1 OTA came through and after ignoring it for a few days, I accidently installed it. Now I can't unroot with Universal Androot, keeps saying "Failed! You still have the power, my lord.."
Now things like Rom manager do not work i tryed to restore to my 2.2 backup i made on rom manager before updating to 2.2.1 but nothings happen i tryed to flash the recovery, reboot into recover, fix permissions but it keep saying ''An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!'' ,
Search the forum for "Root FRG83".
There's a dedicated thread in Development.
There's a link to Windows app that roots easily.
You could also find the thread through my signature.
How hard is that?
You've been answered in one thread, you refuse to take a second to look, why? Do you expect someone to do everything for you?
I need to downgrade to 2.2 as well, since I need to do some testing on the AAC bug (which is fixed in 2.2.1, I think?).
Can anyone point me to a "vanilla" 2.2 ROM for the Nexus One? Or provide some hints on how to downgrade?
Thanks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
This is a great ROM, based on Google's Stock ROM (not AOSP) and using the stock kernel. It has a few tweaks, but retains a vanilla experience and is very stable. You want the first link called "FRG83D Stockbar v1".
If that is too much fro you, you can download the "Completely Stock Deodexed with busybox (No add-ons or tweaks):" . This version is 99.9% like the stock version, just rooted, deodexed (in case you would want to add a theme), and has busybox support.
The Dev is pretty good at answering questions and providing support.
EDIT:
Sorry, this is 2.2.1. I guess you are looking for a FRF91/FRF93 or FRG33 based ROM... Try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8037155&postcount=591 . It is an older versioin of the ROM above. When I was using it, it was very nice. Only difference is that the notification bar is black with white icons instead of white w/ black icons.

Thanks a lot! You rule!
Or you could just flash an official build from here: http://developer.htc.com/ ...
I tried flashing both the FRG33 Stock v1 (FRG33_stockbar_signed_v1.zip) from the xda thread, and Nexus One FRF91 system image (signed-passion-img-0713_FRF91.zip) from developer.htc.com, but I got a "E:signature verification failed" error when trying to flash them.
EDIT: I rooted the 2.2.1 using rageagainstthecage, installed Amon RA 1.8.0 and tried installing FRG33 Stock v1 again. This time it worked, I'm back on 2.2. Thanks!

Hey guys so ive got one of the Rogers dream phones,.I was wondering if it is possible to flash one of the themes (meteamorph)? The reason I ask is that these phones are EBI1 not EBI0 like the tmobile ones.
Being ebi1 makes it so that not everything is compatible, an example of this is the cyanogen rom, it is not compatible with out a special kernel for our phones.
Once again, are the metamorphosis themes compatible with our ebi1 phones?
I am in the exact same boat lol my provider is fido and I use the latest cyanogen on my rooted ebi1 rogers dream I jus thought that this was a funny coincidence oh and obviously I'm in canada ps . I reall would like it if brian the god who makes our cyanogen port files, ported the 10mb ram hack
Themes are all good. I've used the ones from the cm updater with no issues. I also tried some meteamorphs a while ago with no issues. I think there is an issue with meteamorph on the latest cyanogen thoe. not 100% sure
To the first poster, yeah that would be great because we can't get dwangs fast rom on ebi1. Do you know if anyone has asked him to port it?

Where can I get cm updater from? I didn't find it on the market. And am I correct in thinking that the cm updater does more than just update cyanogen roms?
EDIT ive found it and see that it can update the cm aswell as use themes. I still need an answer to my post after this one.
I am wondering if it is safe to use cm updater to update our phones because we require the special kernal to use cm. Do we need to apply a kernal everytime, does it do it for us, or do we do it ourselves. (This is regarding updating the cm itself not the theme)
Hey guys, so I am still waiting for a response regarding my above post but in addition I would like to say that I now have a theme using cm updater. I downloased the first one in the recommened list. I was wondering what the difference between advance and regular launcher. There where two options for this theme one with regular other with advanced. I chose regular because I don't know what a lanucher is.
i have heard that people have asked him but he hasnet responded with a definitive answer

You just need to add the bcrook Kernel as a theme. Follow the directions in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592377
To Update:
1. Themes > Menu > Check Now
2. Select the newest bc-ebi1 file from the theme section
3. Click on it and download it, choose Apply Later when finished.
4. Download the newest Cyanogen ROM from the ROM section. Choose Apply Now.
This will reboot to recovery and flash the newest cyanogenmod. Then apply the previously downloaded port file.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the link andanswer, that will come in handy.
Another question I have is what's the difference between advanced and regular launcher?
You can look at the thread for advanced laucher and see the differences. Folders, change the number of home screens and more.
hmm i have a rogers dream and ive never had problems with themes, cm updater or anything. also ive never had to install any "special" kernel for any rom ive put on my phone.
im pretty sure i used the "rogers one touch root" guide in the dev forum when i originally rooted my phone.
is there a difference between the old and new rogers dreams? or are all this ebi1??
I use the enoch theme and it works great and looks even better. I think that most roms don't touch the kernel so they should be fine.

There is a difference but it isn't with the radio (ebi1 vs ebi0) its with the spl. It just requires the one click root to get around. You must have used haykuro's method to root which switches your radio to EBI0 making it compatible with any rom for the G1.

ahh makes sense, i used haykuro's method. thanks for the clarification.
hey i am using the binary something theme. When on the old Cyanogen rom it had the same theme but with the lockscreen, when updating to the latest CM rom i dont see the lock screen version anymore. (i am using CM updater)
Ok so I am now using the enoch theme, I like the blue accent and the transparent design to show more background. One thing that I miss is the lock screen, CM updater doesn't show any option for installing a enoch lockscreen. Is there any way to get a lockscreen? Also can I use any lockscreen even if it is not enoch? (Cm updater shows no lockscreens anyway)
Does the latest CM rom 12.2 not support any lockscreens yet? Or do I just need to add more sorces for themes in cm updater? If so could someone guide me into doing that.
could someone please answer as to can I use any lockscreen? and how can i get this done with cm updater?
I bought a slightly used Nexus One, the guy said it's rooted, well I am new to Android, just trashed my iPhone.
Anyways my OS seems slow at times, I have Froyo on it FRF91, but I think that it's a rather instable custom ROM how do I know if it's the original Google ROM?
I rather have the original Google ROM also because I like my phone to be able to get OTA updates.
If this is a Custom ROM, how do I get the OEM ROM back on my Nexus One?
Thank you all
If you go to About Phone in the settings menu it will normally have an abnormal name in the Kernel Version. What does yours say?

Even better, download and install any one of many screenshot apps. Take a screenshot of your About screen, and post it here?!
DroCap2 is my fave.

You have an old version of Enomther's TheOfficial ROM (which is an excellent ROM, I happen to use it).
Flash its latest version (thread in Development section), and if the launcher (desktop) speed is what's bothering you - install LauncherPro. This ROM is probably one of the most stable custom ROMs out there, if not the most stable of them.

I love Enomther's roms and would highly recommend you to upgrade to the newest version.
Glad to hear it's a good ROM it's not often but sometimes when closing an app it takes about 30 seconds till i can do anything else.
How do I upgrade to the newest ROM? I went to the webiste of Enomther and it says something about Radio update also I like the stock theme will that stay on my phone?
1) It's definitely not a ROM problem. When installing his new ROM, wipe EVERYTHING - data and cache, and install apps one by one until you find the offender.
2) Flash his non-themed version and you'll get a stock look.
3) Check your baseband version in the same place you've checked kernel. If it says *U_4.06* or *U_5.08* then you don't need to flash the radio, if not - go to Nexus Wiki / Radios and look there.
Thanks a lot I will try it today.
Just did the update also installed the HTC 720p camera update.
Now it says:
Baseband version: 5.08.00.04
Kernel Version: [email protected] #1
Build number: FRF91
is that the right thing?
Thank you so much for all the hints.
Yes, you have the latest. See if the newer radio works well for you, and if it doesn't - try flashing the 4.06 version.
I have the samsung captivate at 2.1 and it is rooted and has sideloading enabled where I can install non-market apps from my usb card. I want to update to Froyo 2.2. I have been reading but getting different answers about rooting and sideloading Froto 2.2 original leak. Also I have backed up my phone.
1.Can Froyo 2.2 original leak be rooted and sideloaded with this file?(superoneclickv1.5.4)
2.Is this the file for the original Froyo 2.2?(I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low-designgears)
I want to say this is my first android phone and these things are nice. I used to only use windows mobile phones, but now...... hello android.
I would like to say thank you to all the people for the guides and help that make it possible for me to play with this fun phone.

To be honest, I think the latest cognition ROM is way better than the leaked froyo. Faster, smoother, just better. And cognition of course has sideloading enabled.
Coginition question?
I read a little about the coginition roms. They seem really nice but could you answer a few questions.
1.Can you start out with the lastest rom first?
2.I read that it is really hard to go back to your original flash enev if you have a backup.(I did make a backup.)
3.I am not being a smartass but, could you please answer my first questions in my first post please.
Thank you for replying so fast.

Yes that is the leaked JI6 Froyo firmware, and is also one click odin.
Thank you
Thank you for answering my question.
If i was you I would leave 2.1 and add side loading, lagfix remove blootware and you got a pretty good set up, I have flashed most of the Roms here and I wont say with one is the best becouse each one has it flaws and I think just the leaked Frito has the most bugs tho design gears is basing his cog on it so he fixes stuff as he goes

I just got my first Android device -- A CDMA Hero on Sprint.
I'd like to:
-Root the phone
-Install 2.2, with Sense UI
-Overclock it
I have found so much information online and am slightly overwhelmed. Can anybody clearly explain what I should do?
Which method of rooting should I use for this phone? I am running 2.1-update 1. What ROM should I use? And how do I get sense on it as well? Also which overclock method is most recommended??
Thanks in advance.
I rooted my old hero with z4root. Look for it in the forums or dowload it from 4shared.com, its the easiest way to root. Its a simple apk to install. Hope it helps
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yeah... z4root will give you root and super user but i am not sure about the recovery...just get rom manager off the market and flash Recovery...it is the first option in the menu when you open the app...after that make a nand back up and you are ready to flash another rom...if you want 2.2 i recommend aosp 2.2 ...while it is not sense...it is a very good and fast rom
There isn't a complete working 2.2 Sense build.
Most of the newer ROMs have overclocked kernels built in.

I got my Hero in September and just rooted about 2 weeks ago. I tried to do it using the unrEVOked exploit but it was a no-go, possibly because I had the newest xxxxx.7 version of the Sprint software. I had success rooting with the "Rage in the Cage" exploit, but I can't seem to find the guide I used to root. You could always revert to a previous version of the Sprint software and follow the guide for rooting a 2.1 Hero on this forum - it can be found on the "sticky" in the Hero CDMA Development Forum.
Or you could keep it simple and just search RegawMOD for a one-click root.
Then just download setCPU from here or the market to OC.
Go to Settings > About > Software
For Software version, if it says 2.27.651.5 you can use the tried and true regaw rageagainstthecage method, listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
Actually I believe his new rooter program should work for all versions, and it basically does all the work for you
