We have two hurdles. First, Samsung mobile Canada is still working on Froyo for the I9000M (it seems like it but I am not too sure). Second, Bell has to approve the firmware and put their app that works on 2.2.
When will those be done? Well, all we can do is cross our fingers. What I have realized while living in Canada for 15 years is that everything is REALLY slow here.

It's in Questions and Answers section for a reason; no need for a title change.

I'm guessing sometime in December..

Just a heads-up to anybody thinking of using the international JP6 firmwares: don't do it if you're on Bell's network!
You'll lose the 850 MHz band. I learned the hard way.

And it bricked mine, or maybe it accelerated the bricking/ corruption of the internal SD Card

Yeah if Samsung would also just fix their Kies program too that would be good... it shut my phone off and wouldn't let it turn back on until I pulled the battery. What gives?

850Mhz Band / SD Card Issue?
Hi there,
I am on Bell and I am thinking of doing some customization of firmware for this device (i.e., 2.2 if it is available).
What is the 850Mhz Band issue/SD card issue you refer to? Is there any firmware you recommend I should try that might actually work okay with Bell?
(sorry for the noobish question.........)
Thanks in advance!

When is Froyo coming to Canada?
My friends, friend wants to know when the 2.2 update is coming to Canada, can anyone help please, thank you

Come back when Samsung has properly rolled it out throughout Europe. Until then no one really knows...

Got a message from Samsung Canada and there are no release dates as of yet. They said they were still working with the carriers to finalize a date.
I'm guessing they will be releasing country by country and Canada will be near the end of the list. Typically we see leaked ROMs some time before an official release and so far there hasn't been anything for north america. Canada needs a different radio then the rest of the world and because we are a smaller market we won't be as high a priority.

I never have problem with wcdma 850 on froyo with bell i9000m, all u need to do is flash the jh2 modem and change csc to bmc, then u have the original bands back, the only problem im having w jp6/jpm is battery drain, when i ran the spare parts battery info, showing my phone is running 100%, any anyone know how to fix that let me know

This is the problem with using the JH2 modem in Froyo. it is not designed for it, which is also why you cannot see the signal status numbers in the settings menu on Froyo as well.
We know it's possible to get Froyo working on an I9000M, but MANY people have lost their internal SD and there is no Froyo modem available that supports the 850mhz wcdma band.

the carriers need to just say ya sure update it. You don't even get it through the carriers you get it through ****ty kies. It's late october the update better be coming in the next 11 days.

There is some miss information in this thread. I am using a bell i9000m with froyo on it. And so is my girlfriend. We both live in an area where 850mhz 3G is the prominent band and still have 850mhz 3G signal.
I flashed doc's JPM RomMod and it works 100%. No sd card issues (internal or external) or problems of any kind.
Offical froyo wont be out untill december is my guess. Bell has to load it up with their bloatware before they even release it and its not even finished yet.

FroYo update for EPF30 build?

Anyone know when the update is available for OTA EPF30 build?
No, because we're not Google.
I have EPF30, and I have taken the somewhat radical measure today, of realising that there is more to life than FROYO, I have a great Nexus phone, and at some point in the near future, google will update it - and I will love it. It's not as if my phone is a crippled hunk of junk on 2.1, so chill out everyone and enjoy the weather!
It's damn sunny here in the UK and I am off to the park with my 3yr old daughter
mine is the same build from UK Vodafone, this is what they said on their forum:
Build EPF21B was the original launch build, but we approved an update to this which fixes an MMS resizing issue, on the 7th of March - that update is build EPF30. They are both approved for use on Vodafone UK.
If you get a handset running EPF21B, it is likely that you'll receive a firmware update soon after over-the-air.

So EPF21B will get it very soon, but looks like it may be delayed for EPF30?
Looking around various forums, you dont see EPF30 mentioned too often, as I found out when trying to root, so not expecting anything too soon.....
Also this statement would suggest further delays:
Whilst there is no Vodafone software installed in the firmware, the releases for the Nexus One still require testing and approval before we can make them available.
Once we've approved the release, we let Google know and they send it out directly from their servers.

How blooming long to get if from google, have a test period, approve it then wait again for the OTA ??
Vodafone adding unnecessary delays for no reason, Google see it fit for release, if Vodafone don't add stuff, why do they need to approve it too??

I have the same build... NL Vodafone...it seems that EPF30 is the European version (when you look at the languages).
I would however interpret your originel quote quite differently. It seems to me they mean to say that if you are on EPF21B you will soon receive EPF30. Otherwise it doesn't really make sense, does it? If EPF30 is an update to EPF21B it would be strange to get the Froyo update soon on the older build ???
I do find it very odd (and unbelievable) that Vodafone would have to approve the Froyo build first :-s
seems that the only possible thing is wait

That was just an assumption on my part, purely because there doesn't seem to be many with this build, but several have the older one. mainly because when I tried to root using modoco superboot the EPF30 was non existant. Just scaring myself really in case it gets overlooked by mistake

Yeah, good idea
Can confirm that the following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710519 works on my UK vodafone Nexus EPF30, I am now running FRF50 and about to update to FRF83
Hmm interesting, very tempting. I assume that when running EPE54B one would get the OTA update to Froyo sooner as with EPF30?
Question: localisation...is it just the language or? (sorry if this sounds very newbie )
I'm a noob myself so not sure what you mean. UK Vodafone had no specific customizations and came unlocked as well.
Running Kangorama Froyo now and no problems whatsoever.
I'll try to clarify: it seems that EPF30 is just a European version of the eclaire build. I mean: it includes locales (I think it's called) for, mainly, European countries/languages. What i'm wondering is if those locales do anything besides changing the language of the OS? Or do they also include the dictionary and such. I assume it doesn't (since I use the locale setting English UK) and still use a Dutch dictionary as well.
I'm just not sure...but if the locale is only the OS language then I'm gonna update...don't wanna wait on Froyo because they don't have the European locales build in yet.
Okay google i've finished my beers, bring me that update

Waiting for the EPF30 --> FRF85B
Same here...although thinking of installing the 'stock' stock 2.1 (and then a manual update to Froyo). Pretty sure I don't use the 'locale's' of the European build anyways.
Friend got her update this morning. Although she couldn't tell me if she was on EPF30 or not :-( (women )
Hmmm, we have to be patient
============================
Nexus One customers that bought the phone from Vodafone will be getting Froyo, albeit a little delayed. We have to make a few changes to Froyo to optimize it for the Vodafone network (small stuff around Emergency calling, etc.), so it will take at least another couple of weeks (changes + testing).
Apologize for the extra delay, but please understand that this is a large scale deployment with lots of intricacies and we have to be prudent. I can assure you that we are striving hard to get Froyo out to all Nexus One customers ASAP.
Thanks for your continued support!

Froyo for Captivate?

Has anyone even seen proof of a real froyo firmware for the captivate? One would think that at least an about screen screenshot showing froyo would have leaked out. Makes me wonder if Samsung has even started working on Froyo for any of the Galaxy S variants.

I wonder the same thing. It seems were close to Gingerbread releasing. I've been thinking they may not waste the time/money on Froyo and be on the leading edge by having Gingerbread OTA'd

I dont see that happening but lets hope so.
There haven't been any leaked Captivate specific Froyos. My take on it is that Samsung currently is putting all their development into the I9000, and once they've reached stability, or in Samsung's case the point where they think it's "Good enough" they'll use that existing body of code and port it over for the other SGS variants.
All of the SGS variants (with the exception of the epic) are VERY similar hardware-wise, as you know first hand from running I9000 firmwares on your handset irtehun . Once they have a working framework of Froyo it would be relatively simple for them to make some kernel based modifications and carrier based "bloat" and kick it out the door for the other handsets.

I can't help but think of the epix my wife had when thinking about Samsung and updates. That phone was slated to get winmo 6.5. Last I checked maybe a month ago it still said coming soon Haha. [Bounty] Any devs out there that can make new ROMs for the i9000M SPECIFICALLY???

Hi all...
I dont even know how this will work but I wanted to see if there are any devs here that could and are interested in making specific roms for the i9000M for us Canadians?
I would be willing to pay a bounty and im sure others would be willing to pitch in as well for something made with the i9000M specific kernal (and other works) to help us poor Canadians from bricking our devices when we seem to flash to international firmware.
I have come to the conclusion that there must be something different in our devices which is causing all the havok of dead sd cards etc. Perhaps I am wrong but from the polls it seems that the most dead sd cards are due to the lagfix and flashing new roms.
Anyone have an opinion? Anyone willing to try?

I would be willing to bounty for this aswell i've been monkeying around trying to get things to work.
The only big difference i think is that our band for cell network is different.

I dont know much about those roms at all but i do know that lits of us Canadians that flash international firmware, mods, etc end up with a corrupt internal sd card and i think if there were some roms made with i9000m specific software that it would be safer to flash.
Like I said in the original post... I may be wrong but it would be nice to see...

Is no one interested in this at all? Hmmm... Perhaps once Canada gets the official FROYO update then maybe?
Are there any experts / devs that can confirm or deny that the i9000M is the exact same as the international i9000?
i am interested in this as i am i9000m user who has bricked his phone with jpm. however, i did voice my opinion before and got people bashing me and saying the hardware is identical between the international i9000's and our i9000m. so i don't think you'll get much love for us, especially considering we represent a small portion of the sgs owners. i had suggested that if the hardware IS identical, and obviously the firmware is identical (if we're both flashing jpm/o), then all that is left is the bootloaders, or something else that isn't flashed with the firmware. but no one is interested, so i dunno. i was thinking maybe dumping the bml1-9 and comparing with that of an international phone, but i don't have the intellect to understand the differences. personally, i think we're boned.

AFIK the m is exactly the same other than the actual modem hardware. In respect to the polls, the m is at about a 28% failure and the international is at 14%. Too close imo to say that the m troubled.
The only thing the m really needs is a froyo modem file. The rest is working great. If froyo never came out for the m I would be just fine.
Flash through clockwork as it seems to be less harsh and limit your odin use.

My real question is how do we flash one of these roms without losing our cell signal? I've flashed a rom previously and my phone would not connect back to the bell network at all. Took me a little while to figure out how-to odin back the stock modem file which in turn fixed it for me

not modem, "modem.bin" it is the file that controls the radios. the reason for changing it is either for frequency settings for your location. north america other than t-mobile uses 1900 and 850mhz some countries like austrailia and new zeland use the same. europe uses 900mhz instead of 850 and many of the roms ported to out phone have the european modes. for that reason we use the canadian bell and telus modem.bins for the i9000 roms.
also the captivate modem.bin versions dont have hsupa conectivity and the captivate roms are not compatable with i9000 modems, the bluetooth calling doesn't work in that combination. it is also recomended to match the kernel to the modem but i find that the chinese captivate i9088 modem and the telus t959d modem work better for me than any i9000 modem available.

Unfortunately, our phones don't support H+. We can get HSDPA, and the i9000 modems can get HSUPA, but that's not true H+. However, if HSDPA/HSUPA is acceptable, try flashing an i9000 modem/kernel/rom setup and see if that works for you.

if 3g in your area is that crappy, dont think that hspa is going to fix it. it all rides on the same bands/frequencies. hspa+ is just an increased 3G. in my experience with all my '4G' devices, excluding my LTE ones, obviously, its no different than rocking an i9000 rom/modem on my captivate.

Those reporting the "H+" on their Captivate were more than likely running one of the previously leaked i897 firmwares, that had that built into the leak itself. So nothing official and probably someone thought it would be cool, funny, etc. etc.
The latest i897 leaks are back to just showing the "3G".
Anyway, just an fyi.
