Hi all,
I am new to android but I used to mod my motorola V3 and also jailbreak my iphone so I am not a complete n00b
Thing is I just flashed [ROM] Release: I9000XWJM9 - MultiCSC(s) Europe to my phone. It is a Spanish i9000 GT galaxy S. The flash went well and the phone works, it is fast and smooth. But now I have some issues.
1. There is no 3G, (I can make calls but no data)
2. I can't send text messages (I can receive them but not send them)
3. Cant' root it - I have gone through the process several times, it says rooting phone, but then in applications there is no superuser logo. I downloaded Titanium backup to restore my apps and it says that the phone is not rooted???
Where have I gone wrong?
Drew
Did you create the APN settings?
you need to configure the APN before you can get 3G and MMS

Hi and thanks for your reply. No I didn't create the APN settings, I thought it was something to do with carrier settings. Could you please post me a link to information on how to do this...
Any thoughts on why I can't root my phone?
Update: Thanks for the tip, I did a quick search and located the APN settings for my carrier. I still can't root my phone though which is strange. It goes through the motions but there is no superuser icon????
[Resolved] Flashing different rom
Thanks for the help, I downloaded the same ROM but from samfirmware and then I flashed it using a generic CSC file and I had no problems rooting it.

Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S from Sasktel sometime in mid-october. This is the first android phone I've ever had, and after a few days i decided to try to root it. The rooting process went fine and I had absolutely no problems with my phone. However, i eventually decided to try a custom ROM. I went with Darky's Raw Steel Edition from this forum but after i successfully installed it (v2.2) I could no longer connect to the data network. I could still make calls and receive texts, but any sort of internet connection wouldn't work. When version 3.0 of the rom came out I installed it but had the same problem. I thought my best option at this point would be to just restore to the stock 2.1 firmware. I wasnt exactly sure what my phone had been on when i bought it, but i decided that I9000XWJM9 from samfirmware would be my best bet. I flashed with odin, and now I have no network connection at all! Does anyone know what my problem could be? Thanks so much to anyone who can point me in the right direction!

Thanks for the help! However, I'm having some trouble finding the APN settings for sasktel, if anyone could post a link or something that would be great. And gadgetcheck, I think you gave me the wrong link, it takes me to like a media site with nothing about APN settings as far as I can see.

the SaskTel i9000m stock firmware is JH2. If you're going to use a custom rom, use Doc's. That's what I'm currently using, no issues whatsoever (also on SaskTel in Saskatoon ) If you need the apn settings, let me know, and I'll just copy them out for you, but I'm pretty sure Doc's rom already has them, as I never had to add them. Though maybe they just carried over from my JH2 install?
hi guys, I'm a total noob so please be gentle. I successfully updated my tab to gingerbread using the guidelines from android dev thread, the only problem that I have encountered so far is I cant receive or send mms.
I added apn already, put in all necessary info but its still not working. I tried to delete the apns then clicked on reset to default but nothing shows up.
oh I found another problem. when I update my Samsung apps it says error code 4002.
hope someone can help me. thanks!

Got 3G working on my phone If u have radio 01.97.00R installed on your phone it should work already, just reset your APN settings. Fixed links
If u have 2.3.4 HKTW already installed Skip step 1 and try to see if u can get 3G working. If not just start over.
1. First go to here and follow every thing (Navalynt's Mod) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142674
People that are using windows http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139715 this is what I used to install 2.3.4 HKTW
After I did all that I root my Phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140110
2.Install Radio 01.97.00R for AT&T http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128963
a.Turn off phone. Hold up volume and power keys at same time till it boots up to RSD and plug phone into computer.
b. Open RSD Lite and install Radio 01.97.00R
3.APN
I upload my APN for AT&T, (Update) Should be able to send and receive pictures and video to and from people for At&t only!
Download ApnManager From Market.
Put ApnManager Folder in to the internal sdcard.
Open ApnManager and click resort APN. See if u can now send and receive, If not try restarting.
My old APN had Custom Tethering that messed up Picture Messaging! You can try deleting that if u can't send or receive pictures!

I am on ATT and did not have a single issue on this rom with 3G or any other APN related issues.
I didn't even have to detect network to get it to run.

Same with me after running Nav's Mod file. I will try this and reset settings later to see if it fixes my internet issues.
Seriously? Do you have to post a tutorial for this? Are you that desperate for a thanks? Look around there are at least 3 threads with this same info.

Some people need more hand-holding than others. Making it idiotproof has a niche.
i have flashed this mulitple time. fresh. unlocked. rooted. everything. i cant get it to work on my phone, i get a signal and the one bar thing but no data. its fkn gay/weird. i only get this with 2.3.4. anyone know what i am doing wrong or can help me? i woulkd really appreciate it.
Settings for internet if on 3 Network
Ok at first when i go my phone i couldn't make a calls, and when i did the phone would restart itself. So i flashed the radio to 87.00r and it worked.
Then i had to manually set up the apn in order for my internet to work (Mobile Data)
Menu, Settings, Wireless & Networks,Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, create or edit apn.
Name - 3
APN - three.co.uk
ANP TYPE - default
save settings and restart your phone - and that's it really.
I downloaded APN Manager as you stated. I'm in Minnesota, and I switched the APN to one for T-Mobile and got double the speed. Why is that?

How did u flash 2.3.4 and U have your APN set up right and select HSPA and restart. U can check if trying to connect, Go to Settings, to About phone, to Status And Its under Mobile network state!
FOR THOSE ON AT&T
If you are on the AT&T Network and you upgraded to GB from Froyo and didn't delete your APNs or carried them over using Titanium Backup, you should be fine.
For those of you who didn't or installed Navalynt's Mod/reset your data/whatever else you did to lose your APNs, you don't need to download APN Manager in order to get it back.
It seems the problem with the defaulted APN for AT&T in this particular build is that it is missing the password. If you put back in the password, it works perfectly fine. The password is 'CINGULAR1'. So for anyone having problems with their APNs, try defaulting it or just adding the password in first.
Let me know how that goes for you guys
P.S. Can we get someone to mod the default APN to include the password? Or even better, to replace the defaults and add in the defaults from Froyo build? If someone can (or i can try to look into it) that'd be amazing
I rooted my phone yesterday and when my phone wouldn't boot up the rom I installed, I tried to reinstall the backup I had.
After that didn't work, I used odin to flash a stock ROMI downloaded on the internet and it is working now.
The stock rom I downloaded upgraded my phone from android 2.3.3 to 2.3.6. I don't know if that would make a difference.
So after this was all done, I realised I can't connect to 3g or any mobile network.
Why is this?
How can I fix it?
I live in Ireland so maybe it has something to do with the Stock ROM being from a different country?
Sorry, I am a noob at this kind of thing.
If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Hey,
The CSC (what country the rom is from) doesn't matter, I'm running a stock 2.3.6 rom from the UK even though I'm in New Zealand
Try first going into
Settings -> About Phone -> Status.
Scroll until you see IMEI. If this is odd (maybe XXs in the number code or its different), then that explains why your phone can't connect to any network. Maybe from a bad flash- there a tutorials on these forums on how to recover your IMEI.
Also in this menu check your signal status- whether it says "Connected" or "Disconnected" in Network Status or whatever.
Alternatively, go to
Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names.
In here are your APNs- the network "gateways" that your phone connects to for 3G and so on. Make sure these are configured correctly- if not, your provider's website should tell you how to set these up nicely.
Hope I helped

Any help to solve this much appreciated.
Hi,
You should first check your APN configuration.
If your configuration is ok, then you should ask the rom dev if it's a known issue or not.

Many thanks Ciberbeb for replying.
I have entered and saved the correct APN settings so can send and receive calls.
It is only data via mobile network [wifi ok] that is the problem.
I can't post on Dev pages as I'm a noobie.
You're welcome
Actually, configuring your APN is needed to be able to use data over the mobile network.
You can check your mobile provider for a particular configuration for android.
That's all I can tell...
I may take a screenshot of my configuration but it's specific to my country and operator.
Thanks Ciberbeb
My provider confirmed the correct APN details and they're saved - which is presumably why I can make and receive calls. Same details worked in my HTC for calls and data whereas this one onnly accepts wi-fi.
You're welcome
Alright, so that's weird ...
And does it work if you restore an nandroid of your original rom ?
If yes, then this may be a ROM issue, and you should contact the ROM cooker.

Thanks Ciberbeb for your thoughtful help.
I made the most basic error and didn't back up original ROM [and Moto not much help].
Now ditching the phone and back to old HTC
Really appreciated your input. Thanks
Ahh ! Always perform a nandroid backup prior to flashing !!
You should know this
Anyway, you can use RSD Lite to restore the original Moto rom.
I however don't really know the procedure, so you best read these topics:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974568 for basics on Moto tools
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239706 for original firmwares
Take care with the tools, you're bootloader is unlocked, don't brick your phone!
You can try another rom as well, to confirm if it's a rom issue or not.
You can now push the thanks button
EDIT: You may try a factory reset before anything else. Did you wipe cache/data before flashing JellyAOSP?
Thanks Ciberbeb
Yes, not backing up was a huge mistake but not had any probs before so didn't this time.
Will look carefully at the links you've kindly found and have nothing to lose now so will try anything [well almost!].
Factory reset hasn't worked and Moto weren't helpful with software [understandabe really I suppose].
Did try two other ROMS [completely wiping system before each one] but they didn't install. Perhaps I've a rogue phone... or just a rogue user. LOL
Hitting Thanks... with much gratitude!
What's your problem, again? You don't have mobile network, like edge, h, 3g? If that's the case you need to set proper apns or get apns-conf.xml from another rom you know brings the ones you need. But it has nothing to do with making calls or sending texts, that's a signal thing.

Thanks Anerik for replying [and a brilliant ROM that is fast and clean].
My only problem was not being able to get data via 3G.
I manually entered the usual configs through the APN menu and saved it. When this didn't work I requested a new sim card [in case micro to nano was causing the issue] but the provider texted the apn installation file through for the new sim and I still have the same prob with no data in the Razri except through wifi.
This was the only ROM that installed cleanly and quickly so it is probably something stupid that I've done!
To save your time I'll clarify the following:
The bootloader procedure was successfully and cleanly executed.
The Root Checker confirmed this.
JellyASOP on SD card was installed easily on a fully wiped phone as your instructions.
No problem anywhere else when in wifi mode.
Thanks for your time and patience

Have tried reinserting sim and done a manual apn input. Will try location suggestion 2mrw.
Am sure it isn't your ROM and beginning to think it's a Motorola fault as I went down the rooting process because the phone wouldn't read a sim [which I think is a common fault].
Hitting thanks and just sorry it didn't sort out my Razri cos is a great prog you've written.
