Cognition 3 Boot Sound Question

Searched through almost every thread relating to this post and found absolutely nothing. I just flashed Cog 3.0.2 and it works like a dream. The only issue is I am trying to now change the boot sound to a file of my choosing. Default has no sound file. I have looked in these place so far with no luck:
system/media
system/etc
There is no poweron.wav file anywhere and adding one i created myself did nothing.
Any sure fire ways to do this? Id really appreciate some help

sgs tools here has an easy way to set the boot or shutdown sound

Boot and shutdown sounds as well as qmg animations have been disabled in custom ROMs AFAIK. If you really need it bad, the official factory ROM will work.

I appreciate you being the only persn to respond but that is actually false. I dont have,any qmg files to mess w. I have already made a working boot ani and its zip. Not qrm. Plus alot of roms use .wav files for boot sounds....

You should have no problems inserting a poweron.wav into system/etc and have it execute upon boot up. I have created my own start up and shutdown both with and without voice and they work fine. Just make sure it is in the correct format.

Oh heck, I must have tried the wrong places. Cool! Was thinking it's /system/media/audio/ui or /system/media/audio

[Q] Boot Animation Help

Anyone out there want to take a look at this boot animation? I've tried all I can think of to get it to work but all I ever get is a black screen. I'd appreciate the help.

did you compress the zip file? You can't use compression on it, otherwise it will not be loaded, as the zip is supposed to act as a container only. If using 7zip, there's an option for "store" as the compression type. Use that.

No I did not compress the file. I selected the use the archive as storage with no compression. Like I said I have tried everything I can think of.

There is something about the pngs that is unknown as of yet. I created an image sequence from an avi with virtualdub and it worked fine. The image sequence I made with Rhino 3d does not. Same amount of frames, same desc.txt, same compression program (7-zip), relatively same filesize.
Make sure you're using a text editor that supports ANSI/UNIX save mode correctly. Notepad++ is good and free. And of course, the afforementioned 0 compression/store zip file. WinRAR did not work for me, but 7-zip did.

If I use 7Zip to create a 'store' file, can I just change the filename from a .7z file to a .zip file?

Gotta ask, what are the 'presets' in the part0 folder? I'm pretty sure that wasn't helping it work any...
So, there are a lot of guides on this subject and all of them have said that the images, regardless of folder, have to be incremental. So, frames 0(or 1) to 99 from part0 have to continue in part1 starting at 100.
I ran all the images through a PNG optimizer to shrink them after renaming all of part1 and gave it a shot. It does work now, but 800x480 images are rather slow to display I guess, or the framerate was low. I did not get to see the whole animation play due to fast booting on custom ROMs, but it started part1 before my homescreen came up.

I have also tried almost everything, I just want the motorola Atrix boot animation to run on mine, I tried flashing a zip that was supposed to work, it didnt, I tried getting all of the files and making a non compressed zip and replacing it with root explorer, and that didnt work either. im about ready to give up, seemed like such a simple task.

i also need help i was trying to put the honeycomb one on and couldnt do it seemed so simple i got it into the right folder using super manager and i even deleted the boot from paragon and the samsung one but its still showing the original one HELP

I downloaded the dumped one. After messing with the files for hours, I just slapped it in and watched as it worked, despite being for a different resolution. I just ADB'd it to /system/media.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Tab boot animation?

I've done a few searchs to try and figure this out on my own, but I've been coming up short. I'm just trying to get a custom boot animation on my Sprint Tab. I'm comfortable removing the stock animation and audio. I can't, however, find anyway to add my own. I've tried renaming the custom animation to bootani.qmg with the stock one deleted out. When I boot up, though, it shows nothing still and boots up with no animation. Not asking for someone to reply with a written out guide, but a point in the right direction would be awesome.

Get your new bootanim (usually called bootanimation.zip butbif bit not, then rename it to that) then move it to system/media. Reboot and you should have been new boot anim

That's the issue. Thought that's all I needed to do, but after trying that exact method repeatedly with different animations and bootanimation.zip files, it does not work for me.
I've tried renaming the file bootani.qmg, bootanimation.qmg, bootani.zip, and bootanimation.zip.

The .qmg is the sound file so you don't need that. What video format is your animation? It isn't just the name that has to be correct, its the format and file size too.
I would suggest using the DukeNukem boot file, since we know it works, to verify the process, then go make a custom file. And be sure to post back with your results!

That would make more sense. I just sorta assumed maybe it was searching for a file name and not finding it. Will try once more with the suggested boot animation and let ya know!

I don't have a sprint tab, but the system folders and files sound the same as my at&t tab. What I did was create a folder and moved the boot animation.zip, and the .qmg files in there, then moved the duke animation into the system/media folder.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I really appreciate the work you all do and would like to learn how to contribute. However, I do have a few questions about Boot Screens and Themes.
How exactly do you create Boot Screens? and are different boot screens interchangeable with different ROMS
Also are themes interchangeable with different ROMS or are they specifically made ?
Lastly, I'm running Fasty II 1.9, is their a thread with specific bootscreens and themes for it? Thanks!

Easiest way to do this would be to grab the bootanimation.zip out of the /system/media folder in your current rom, unzip it, and take a look inside. It's just two folders (part0 and part1) with .png files in it that play in sequence, and a text file (desc.txt). The desc.txt file tells android how to play those files in the two folders. For your first go around, I'd recommend just trying to swap files (with the same names) with the files in the bootanimation.zip file you grab. Just make sure to use 7zip with no compression (store only mode) when you put the files back together, and that the 3 files (part0,part1, and desc.txt) are on the top level of the zip file.
Also are themes interchangeable with different ROMS or are they specifically made ?
Themes are usually specific to the rom they're made for. Unless a theme specifically calls out "Multi-rom", assume that it's best to stay with themes built for your rom.

Also, I realized I forgot to answer your question about boot animations working between Roms. The answer is: Uh... maybe? If you really like a particular boot animation, I'd suggest backing up whatever you currently have and dropping it in. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work and you have to restore the backup.
You can also just pull the files from the one you want (in the part0/part1 folders) and drop them in a copy of the one that's currently working for you. Then just put that in the /system/media folder.

How to create a cwm flashable zip file

Does anyone know how to create a .zip file that can be flashed through cwm? say for instance a .zip file that contains the cwm recovery? Any help would be great, and thanks to all in advance who reply

I want to know this too. When I take a zip file that flashes correctly and put a different file in the zip folder, like a modem for example, the new zip file won't flash.

modems are tricky in the Galaxy S line, there's been some work i've seen about flashable modems, but almost everything i've read says they always fail to flash. There are tons of tuts about creating CWM flashable .zip on XDA, just do a quick search.

Same here. I would like to create a cwm zip files that contains all my user apps. TB is good in batch mode but would be so much quicker if I could create a zip and do it after flashing rom.

Have to know how to create scripts to do this. The script takes care of where the file you want to install goes in the system. Then there is the META-INF folder.
