I've had issues with the screen since I got the device. Typing on the keyboard, or tapping any buttons, or drawing, the line is very inaccurate where it shows up. In order for it to work I need to press enough to flatten the tip of my finger so the surface area is about a 1cm diameter circle, and the point it makes is random as to what side of the circle it seems to appear on.
I wasn't certain if it was my phone, or me, or what until recently. I bought this generic pogo capacitative stylus (DX sku.23061). I tried it on my phone and it didn't work. I had to push down extremely hard to get any response, so much I was worried about scratching the screen. I was just writing the problem off to the stylus, but I just tried that same stylus on my friends HTC Touch Slide. It worked beautifully. No pressure required, just the corner of the stylus and it gets perfect accuracy.
Is this type of thing going to get better going from 1.6 to 2.1? Is it just a **** phone? Did I get a lemon? It's hard to simply tap a single icon on the home screen without the one next to it being tapped instead.
Yeah, I tried a stylus too and it was useless for me on the Zio, bit I do not know if that will change with the update

I wouldn't imagine it would change much from an update. Capacitive is mechanical, and is only as good as the screen itself.
My phone has zero issues with the touchscreen display. calibration is bang on (within 1mm).
I'd suggest to RMA it or swap it out if you have a protection plan-- sounds like there may have been some defective products released.
I'm having the same issue with the touchscreen on this phone. I have been posting in several posts about a few issues I've been having but it seems either i'm posting in the wrong areas or i'm invisible in the post altogether.
I'm new to posts and its all confusing to me, I am slowly learning how to get through them, and i've been reading the hell out of just about every one on here for this stinking junk phone to a point i'm about to take my hammer and smash the thing and just buy a real phone that works.
Sounds like a defective touch screen. Hope you have a warranty or protection plan :-\

BTW
If the general public isn't aware, if you have your device plugged in for charging (USB or AC) your touchscreen will not respond accurately.
I'm not sure why this is, but it's something to be aware of.

I'm still noticing some touch screen issues that were present in the old firmware. For example, I will hit the power button to wake up the phone, and the slide to unlock wont respond until after several attempts. If it does respond right away, it will unlock and then the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive. Happens several times a day to me and this is the second Zio I have had since the phone's launch last year that has done this. Also if I have a screen lock pattern, that will not respond either, but as soon as you touch "Emergency Call" it responds to just that. It will always clear up after a couple tries, but it is very annoying and resetting the phone doesn't help either.
How much memory is free on your phone?
Sent from my from my rooted 2.2 no bloat Zio using XDA App
the only thing i have noticed with the lock screen if you halfway unlock it and let go that the unlock slide completely disappears and its only happened once. putting it back to sleep and waking it back up brings it back.
My phone usually runs with 30 to 60 MB of free memory. It's done it before right after a reset I don't believe it has anything to do with memory.

I also am running with 60MB free space, I have the XDA app and the 2.3 launcher running.
I wonder if there is any way to increase the available memory, it would definitely do the phone some good. Perhaps a custom rom about 50MB in size would help.

as the title says i was reading when the menu started showing and hiding again and again i tought was some book issues but when i got to the homescreen it began to run apps i had on it, i have no idea of the cause of this problem
I've had this same problem. I believe it's just the software and not a deficient screen. If you look over on the nookdevs website, there's a page about recalibrating the screen. I've tried it a couple of times and it's definitely improved it. Every now and then something wacky happens, but I guess that's to be expected when you let B&N develop for Android.
I had this happen myself once, and it was pretty annoying... If I didn't have adb available I don't think I could have fixed it until I did. I wasn't able to tap the screen myself, it was taping all over the place.
I did manage after a few minutes to get multitouch paint installed and it was drawing weird dots, lines, angles, etc...
I now have the recalibrate command in gscript but not sure I could run it while it's acting up. Luckily it's only happened once, and it happened while plugged in but never seen it happen again.
Happens a lot on my NC, and I think every time its because my kids touch it with dirty fingers (sweets, chocolate etc), smearing small amounts of dirt on the screen.
The screen goes nuts within few seconds, thinks its being clicked etc...
Wiping/cleaning the screen helps to resore normal behavior, btw - while the screen is moist it does not work for me at all...
Ordered screen protectors, lets see if it makes a differencel
My screen randomly goes nuts as well. It seems like a sudden, rather than a gradual thing. The screen sometimes gets pretty dirty, but cleaning it didn't seem to make much difference. Odd thing is, what DID make a difference was taking it out of the aftermarket case. I have no idea why this would work, but it does. One thing this case does is that it pushes the power and volume buttons in, as it uses four elastic straps at the corners. Maybe holding these buttons a certain way recalibrates the screen, and if you're touching it at the time, it freaks out?
I've noticed my screen only bugs out when I have it plugged into the charger.
As long as its unplugged, its fine. As soon as i pop in the cord, the screen goes haywire.
Only the wall charger though, not when its plugged into the USB on the computer.
My screen was doing that until I got a screen protector.

Also, if you lock and unlock the NC it should stop acting funny.
I noticed that too. Mine hasn't gone REALLY nuts since I took it out of it's case, but sometimes when playing angry birds, it freaks out to the point where I can't play. Hitting the power button, and then hitting it again, and unlocking makes it normal. Wouldn't that indicate it's software instead of hardware? Maybe there's more than one problem?

Mine does the same thing every now and again. And like you, locking the screen and waking it back up fixes it every time. It's definitely software related.
Do your cases have a latch? With a magnet? Because I'm starting to think that may have something to do with it.
My case has a latch, but the magnet is not against the nook when I'm using it..

Heh, I've considered that.. Also considered the mystery sensor to the left of the Nook button too.. Nook is afraid of the dark.
Seriously though, with the CPU guvna' set to ondemand and wifi turned OFF before I power it off I haven't seen it reboot yet. It rebooted once yesterday and I know it had wifi left on as I had just been using it and didn't turn it off before it went to sleep.
So totally making up numbers here....
Default CPU governor + wifi on = 30% chance it's gonna reboot when it goes to sleep..
ondemand governor + wifi on = 20% chance it's gonna reboot
ondemand govenor + wifi off = <10% chance it's gonna reboot (not gonna even say 0 here.. heh)

I tested this theory. When the Nook is in the case, I get crazy screen taps when i try to type something. Out of the case, its perfectly fine.
When I just rest the Nook on the open case (not inside the straps/holders), it will also get crazy screen taps.
One thing to note is I also did not have any problems before updating to 1.0.1. Not saying the update is the cause of the problem but its one of the variables.
I am not sure whether it is my mind playing trick with me or not, but I feel like my phone is less sensitive after I did the hard reset (power+volume down). Sometimes I need to press 2-3 times because the first light tap was not detected.
So is there anyway to increase the sensitivity?
I have the same problem, but no idea that is the hardware or only software problem.....
Fresh owner of this Optimus 2X in France, in our community, frandroid.com, we encounter the same problem , I think this is a software issue.
Did someone already contact LG??
Maybe they should include this into the bug list thread.
May I know were you guys having this problem since it is out of the box? or after reset?
I have the same problem started from day 1 till now
I have the same issue and already thought I'd be the only one having this problem.
I would not say it's a problem with sensitivity, but it feels like the touchscreen goes into some kind of sleepmode where then you need to press a second time, to wake it up.
Continuous touching is no problem. (like when typing rapidly on the keyboard)
This video is not from me, but it shows the problem.
Have a look at 13:28 and 13:37. The reviewer tries to hit the "Ackermann" entry, but the touchscreen does not recognize the touch. At 13:37 the guy has to press another time to get the entry selected.

Yes! The touchscreen is definitely less sensitive than my old HTC Hero, and gets quite frustrating sometimes when a scroll misses the first part of the movement or a click is missed.

just in case, are you guys using 20110218 baseband too?
The same problem here. If I unlock the screen and then tap on any on screen apps, I need to touch again for it to open. Only the first time though, after that it function ok. I think this is a bug and needs to be fixed... I have my pc for double-click.
Yep, count me in. Same problem here. Sometimes screen taps aren't registered. Will do some research later on, but I think it's a software problem. (maybe you have to tap 2x as fast )
Hi,
same problem here!
Potentially a driver issue. A Nexus S user had a similar issue in this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18431-tuning-driver-to-deal-with-unresponsive-touchscreen/
He managed to tweak the driver and it works fine now. Need to know C++ (I think?) to understand though.

I see, then probably they will fix it on the next update/gingerbread?
Same issue here.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the problem seems to be that the screen has zero tolerance when it comes to tapping and swiping together. If you tap and slide your finger a bit directly after the tap, the tap is ignored. In other words your tap has to be a steady tap when you click on a button or an app. Right on the spot and with no swiping or sliding afterwards. I can't reproduce this on any of my other devices.
Ergo, it seems that the natural tapping I'm used to isn't working on the x2. It seems like I have to adjust my tap. I think that this could in principle be solved with a setting somewhere, because clearly the x2 is capable of registering this in for example a web page.
The great thing of this is that you can safely tap and swipe in the app drawer to scroll up and down or left and right. The downside is that a tap with a little swipe isn't registered at all. I would say that LG has choosen here for a wrong setting.
My personal experience about screen sensivity.. can you confirm if it's the same for your device?
I noticed a strange touch response.. and after some tests, I can say that the touch screen and icons are influenced by the surface where the phone was put!
with the phone in my hands, it's all ok (only sometimes - rare - I need to tap more than once).
If I put the phone over a glass surface (like a glass table) without touching it with both hands, the touch and the icons not respond!! NEVER!
If I put the phone on my scanner the touch screen works ok, but the icons not (or only few and rare taps was detected).!
If I put the phone over my big Onkyo amplifier.. It works like in my hands.. or better!! even without touching with hands.. only with a finger!
Put it back on my glass table.. and all stop working again. If I put a aluminium foil under the phone (between phone and table).. the touch and the icons works again !!
If I put it on the bed.. it don't work.
LG support say that they have tested the phone about this issue after my report.. but no strange response was detected by them. I don't know if they really tested it..
Try it and let me know what you think about!
tested on glass surface, I can press and swipe through pages with a finger without problem.
it is true that my device is not so responsive, but aint reaching that level yet
i read about a similar behaviour on other devices because some devices need a proper grounding for the capacitive screen to work correctly. You can find this problem via google.
Some devices have problem in a car-mounting, for example.
But i think thats not the problem the thread-opener talked about?
Guys I'm looking to get this phone and after reading Engadgets review of the X2 where they mention that the screen is not as sensitive to the touch as other phones I got a bit worried and started googling which lead me here!
Is this true? The screen isn't very sensitive and you have to apply more pressure than other capacitive phones?
I know that the OP is talking about a different issue but I reckon LG will get that sorted out via software update, or at least hope so!
Please do post your experience about the screen sensitivity of the X2 as this is putting me off. I currently have the Motorola Milestone 2 which is very sensitive to the touch even with a screen protector on it.
Cheers
anyone have their nook hd + start acting like it haunted? while reading a book pages turn back and forth by itself. watching a youtube video and it starts doing its own thing. entering and exiting apps???

yes i cleaned the screen off and all my finger prints. I was doing some reading and some people say that they had the same problem and they said something about holding the power button for 20 seconds and then holing it for 2 seconds to turn it on. I tried that but it still eventually did the same thing. I also read some people said that once they put a screen protector on it seemed to help. What do you think?? Have you had this problem at all. I cant return it to B & N since its rooted and was purchased off craigslst. Is this a known issue?
When mine gets weird and I get phantom finger presses just shutting the screen off and turning it back on fixes it. Usually happens after long game sessions.

This is the only problem I have with my nook HD+, but I am getting close to finding the problem.
I have managed to get dmesg to print out when the problem is occurring, and that isn't easy when it wants to start doing random presses !
Every time this problem occurs I see the same thing:
lowmemorykiller: killing 'ndroid.settings' adj 1000 to free 19712KB on behalf of 'kswapd0' because cache 85116KB is below limit 86016KB for oom_score_adj 12
free memory is 5568KB above reserved
When the crazy screen presses start happening lowmemorykiller begins closing all sorts of things one immediately after another, and then crashes out with a negative memory available like :
-58329KB available
I'm guessing there is a memory leak somewhere.
I've been getting phantom touches since upgrading to CM 11 (6/16 build and up), although I left the Touch & Hold delay to its stock "short" setting when I upgraded, so not a good experiment. (Two variables.)
For me, a web page will register a "click" while browsing with my thumb hovering about an inch over the screen.
I have "show touches" enabled, but I don't see a touch.
I have a screen protector. (Have had it for months.)
For now, I'm setting the Touch & Hold delay to Medium as a work around.
I've had the Motorola moto g 2nd gen for nearly 2 weeks now. I came from a Sony xperia S which I've had since it's launch in 2012.
I love this phone as it's really fast and the interface is really fluid compared to my xperia S.
The problem I have however is that whenever I try to scroll, be it on facebook or on a webpage, the phone thinks I'm clicking instead of actually scrolling. 70% of the time I accidentally click on facebook links or webpage links while my finger was never actually lifted off the screen.
I never had this problem with my sony xperia S. Even though it was slow as hell it still knew whether I was clicking or scrolling. It doesn't matter if I press extremely hard on the screen or lightly. Phone reacts the same way.
Does my phone have a faulty touch screen, or am I just spoiled by my xperia S?
@aolol
Nope, never ever had such problems with mine.
No Scrolling and clicking confusion-issue here
Me thinks somethings wrong with your screen mate. Better get it checked.
And no, the touch response is not supposed to be like that.
I have the same issue and so are several others. Not sure what's causing it.
I also have the same issue, it is really annoying I'd really like to know by what this issue is caused.
I had a screen protector on mine that was causing it, took it off & no more problems. Just a thought...

I Only face this problem whenever my hands are wet with water and still i touch the screen. it clicks where water has left from my hand.
only have this problem when I am not holding the phone (phone on bed/table), it seems the touch screen is not as sensitive as most other phones, on the bright side it also means lower chance of butt dialing (since you need a slide and it is very hard to slide when you are not holding it with your hand..)
Mine does this too - with my finger tip only, near the nail. If I use the flat spot, I don't get so many false touches. I just find it a very sensitive touchscreen.
Now there is another long topic on freezing, but its basically about 10seconds freeze , then things normal and stuff. Mine is different so I made a new topic.
Have sprint note. On Marshmellow now but happened on Lollipop as well.
The problem is:
After several hours of use, or may even a day, the phone just freezes....partly. Let me explain. Basically if you touch anywhere on the screen, it won't register the touch. If you hit the hard recents button, it'll show recents, but you can't click any program (it doesn't register your touch). When it first happened I thought I needed a new screen, but quickly found out I probably don't: If I hit the nav bar, it will pull down full screen, and if I have it full of notifications, I can click any of the notifications, whether its near the top, middle, or bottom, and it registers the touch and sends me to the app. But then again, at that app, the screen doesn't register. Even if I touch in the same place on the screen where I clicked the notification that sent me to the app. But the nav bar still works. It recognizes the touch, and will pull down full screen, and I can click anywhere on the screen and my touch will register. Also if I hold the power button and the reboot options come up (which on mine has option from top down to bottom, I can click any option on the screen, and it will register my touch. But if I hit the home button, the whole screen is non responsive. So I have a partial freeze. The whole screen doesn't work, but then the whole screen will work when I pull the nav bar down, so im totally confused. I already tried usually differnt launchers, but same thing, after while, screen will be non responsive
If I reboot then everything works fine and normal, so I doubt its a screen issue. Because if its broke its broke. Also tried a hard reset, problem still came back. I guess it may be an app clashing problem but I have over 100 apps it could be any one of them
Has anybody experienced something similar?
I had a buddy give me an LG Lucid3 that had a similar issue... It actually got worse over time and the touchscreen totally stopped working. (He thought) I took it apart and actually the connection was good. Put it back together and just kept rebooting it multiple times in a row. Finally, the touch started to work a little an for some reason I thought to go and download an antivirus program. The phone had 11. Got rid of them and phone has been working fine for a couple weeks now. Idk if that's your problem but I figured I'd share this experience because I've never seen anything like it.
