I was looking for an app that can turn off my screen and put my device in standby basically. I know there is an app actually called "Lock Screen Widget". But maybe it's only for 2.2 Froyo. Because on my Aria with stock 2.1 it doesn't show up in the Market. I don't want to go to CM6 as I like Sense and the stock ROM. I just want an app that will shut off my screen as I really dislike that angled power button on top.
Tasker no go.
"Can I use Tasker to turn the screen on and off ?
Turning on, use the Display / Turn On action.
Turning off, no, sorry, that's not allowed by the Android designers. "
Thanks.
I use an app call ' Screen Off Widget ', and it works well. It has a 5 sec delay after the screen is off for a true lock, but all apps seem to have that. It can be found on the market using searching either Screen Off or Seltzer (maker of the app).
Hope this helps.
Never mind. Misunderstood your post.
Thanks for the advice but "Screen off widget" isn't the same. Sure it "shuts off" the screen but it delays which still leaves the soft keys vulnerable to presses. Also it states it can not shut the screen off due to API. However, "Lock Screen Widget" does do this. Is this allowed in Froyo but not 2.1? Any way to get APK and force it?

1. I think you mean S2U2 and you should read the S2U2 Thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588
What I do to quickly lock my phone is either, shut the screen off using the button on my phone (Which then locks the phone instantly as well) or Create a shortcut to S2U2 Lock to lock the phone, or I can use psshutxp to shut off the screen which also locks the phone instantly.
Sorry I can't help you with your other questions

Are you on CM6? There are new settings to control the lock out time.

Yes I am on CM6 where are these settings? I been all over but can't find them.
Edit: Found the lock out time, what I like is to avoid the time it takes once locked to ask for password.
I am looking for this as well.
CM Settings > User Interface > Screen Timout Delay
"How long to delay before enabling screen lock when screen times out"
.......
Alternatively you can use the Power Controls widget and choose the "Screen lock" to do it manually.

I think we may be talking about two different things.
I have a pin lock set up. After the screen turns off its quite a pain to type in a 7 digit number each time. I'm looking for a way to continue to keep the slide to unlock screen when the screen turns off, but to delay the actual pin/pattern lock for x amount of minutes

The slide to unlock and pin are joined at the hip. You can't have one without the other. (this was stated by android team member and it will not be changing anytime soon as it's a security issue).
If you use the settings I pointed to you can delay the lock combo altogether for X amount of time. Use the top for when the screen turns off by itself, and the bottom one for when you manually press the power button to turn the screen off.
(I know this because I use a pin code as well, and I just tested it)
I supposed you could pester someone over at CM and they'll look into decoupling it.
You can download an app from the market to disable/enter your password for you if you dont like having to enter it everytime you wake the phone. I personally use an app called Lockpicker so i dont have to type in my exchange email password everytime I wake my phone. Just a suggestion.

I like your suggestion, because our Draconian IT policies force us to use a password after wake always. I will look for the app now.
Thanks a lot.
Edit: this doesn't work with Froyo. Bummer.

I see. I tried what you suggested and it is what i was looking for. I just have a habit of turning off the screen with the power button and never configured the second setting. Thanks for pointing that out!
I'm not really interested in theming my captivate very much (yet...) but I'd absolutely love to change the dumb ass lock screen... I hate the thing.
How might one go about changing this and is there a recommended replacement?
Currently running Cognition 2.1.4, lagfix disabled.
The app that most use is WidgetLocker, as it seems to be the most stable of the lock screen replacement apps. I purchased it, but don't use it because it's not quick enough for my taste.
With the stock lock screen, it's the first thing that pops up when you turn the phone on. With WidgetLocker, I would often get a brief delay where I would see the home screen before WidgetLocker kicked in. I hate that delay, so I've gone back to the stock pattern input lock screen.

Use the app called "no lock" to fix that problem

Tried that, didn't do the trick. Instead of getting a brief glimpse of the stock lock screen, I instead get a brief glimpse of the home screen.
Did you use either the home replacement or the root override? With those, I rarely get the stock screen, maybe 1 in 20 times.
I sort of like the lock screen. IMO, its much better than the Samsung Fascinate's lock screen. It's standard lock screen is the jigsaw puzzle.
I like how the Captivate's lock screen can be slid any direction to unlock, seems to make it really easy for me to just grab the phone and then flick the screen in any direction with my thumb.
anybody had any luck in getting that puzzle lock screen from the vibrant or fascinate? i know we have one when a call has been missed but i want that to be the main lockscreen.
Any idea what this marker is on the screen which fades away after a few seconds? Assume it's something introduced as one of the updates?
That looks like a scroll bar for that widget you have there
I don't have the widget on!
Are you using a custom launcher? Looks like another one behind your spen icon too. Does it slide your notifications on your homepage. Def haven't seen that on my Note.
Definitely from something you installed, not from the phone itself or any phone update.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 8 using XDA Labs

Hold down the power button to bring up the shutdown menu. Then hold down the power off icon. It will ask if you want to restart into safe mode. Hit yes. Once your phone is back on, all third party apps are disabled. If that bar if gone, then it confirms it is something you downloaded. To get out of safe mode, just go to the power menu and tap restart.
Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
See screenies for info.

you can use OHO+ without goodlock though, if you only need the lockscreen gesture.
OHO+ is a "standalone" app, luckily.
Screen lock button in navbar via good lock + navstar ?
