I downgraded to RC29 in order to root my G1. I have not been able to sign in with an active Google account no matter what i do. I followed the instructions word for word from this website only to find myself stuck. I have wiped from the recovery screen and reinstalled RC29 with the same results. I get the following message; "there is a problem communicating with the Google servers. this could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services". My sim card is activated and i have checked APN settings and all seem to be fine. Any help would be appreciated.
try this.

Hi,
I am in a big trouble.
I had my G1 with CM latest build (4.2.15.1) and it was working fine.
Suddenly, it stopped recognizing network. Now it shows No Service.
While trying to solve it, I had Restored it back to Stock (RC29).
Now it is asking me to enter Login ID & Password. But Still it shows "No service" so no way of Login.
It doesn't even go to recovery also.
How do I solve it? (I tried with T mobile Support & HTC also, no luck).
Also, I am out of warranty. So what are the options? Please help
thanks in advance.

This sounds bad. It really sounds like some hardware failure. If you know another tmob user, maybe try another sim card? Good luck.
Happened to me just after flashing a new ROM. Turns out my 7 year old SIM had died coincidentally and using the new SIM that came with the phone got it working again (after activating the SIM from T-Mobile).

+1 went to t mobile store gave me new sim and i was a OK
Installed cyanogen 6.1 on a G1 I just acquired at no cost but now can't setup my "google account" errors out about not being able to find reliable data network.
Initially I had wiped the phone with the stock ROM and was able to do the initial sign-up of the google account and tested the android market without much of a problem.
After alot of reading, root and learning about Android via a crash course. I was able to sucessfully install cyanogen 6.1 but now I can't setup the phone.
I thought that my trial and error method of getting things working may have caused the problem so I did a complete wipe and started from scratch (minus the error) once more to make sure everything was good. But still no go on setting the google account.
Yes, I do have a dataplan as I was using an HTC TouchPro2 before this.
Any ideas?
SPL: HDBOOT - 1.33.0013d
Radio: 2.22.28.25
ROM: update-cm-6.1.0-DS-2708port_S, gapps-mdpi-tiny20101020-signed.
At the Google Sign-in screen, hit menu, APN, enter your APN.
There should be a skip option on CM anyway.
APN looks correct. I'm able to skip the sign-up but I can't access anything that requires net access. No android market; no browser...nothing.
Did you flash gapps after flashing the rom? Not all roms come pre-installed with gapps.

Yes, I installed gapps-mdpi-tiny20101020-signed
dump a logcat using adb during boot process perhaps?
or try checking the SIM with another phone. similar thing happened to me once-upon-a-time, and apparently it was the SIM and not the phone *doh*
I had the same problem but when i reboot the phone the problem is solved for some time ( 1 a 2 hours) so i have to reboot my phone a lot.
im having the same problem with cm6. i have tried going to biffmod and get the same problem and data is turmed on.
Yep, tried another mod same issue; also went as far as to unroot it and problem still exists.
Does anyone know if the Radio firmware could be the potential culprit?
SIM card works fine on my HTC TouchPro2...running android
Try a diff radio perhaps, not sure if thats the issue.
It has got to be the APN... Do you get a G/E/3G icon?
Just wanted to updated that I have now been able to successfully get CM 6.1.0 working on the G1. Seems that it all came together once I received my G2 and my data plan was changed.
Yay!!
Got a HTC Dev edition on release. First thing I did was flash CWM recovery with fastboot and rooted.
Everything has been working great until yesterday. I went to test the wifi tether as I am out of town this weekend and need to tether my tablet and laptop to my phone. Ever since, however, I have been unable to access any google services from the phone via wifi or data network. Everything else connects and works fine and I can even tether and use the internet just fine. However the wifi tether options were all grayed out.
So I backed everything up and tried to flash the stock RUU downloaded from HTCdev. Fails with Error 155. I tried flashing stock recovery. RUU still gets error 155. So I did a factory reset from the bootloader and still I am unable to connect to google services. Since its factory fresh I have to add my account but when I try to do so I get the following error "couldn't sign in - Can't establish a reliable connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your Android device may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care." But my data connection is working fine and I can use gmail from a web browser no problem.
I checked the hosts file and its fine (no hard coded ip for google stuff) and I am at a loss of what to do to fix this now. Since factory reset the wifi tether options are all there but my google servies still will not work.
Ok I locked the bootloader then ran the RUU again. Part way through it screwed up gave error 155 again and then all I had was a black screen with !points in triangles in the corner. Restarted the RUU and my phone. Went through the process again and then in completed sucessfully.
So now back into my phone and still I can not connect to google services. gives same "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" error.
I am at a loss.
Similar Problem
I've got a similar problem.
I was attempting to root my phone, so I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, with unlocked and tampered now showing up on the bootloader screen. However when i went to restore my settings by signing into google play and dropbox I get the same message, that I cannot connect to the severs. However this only exists in google apps and dropbox as facebook works fine as does the browser!
At a complete loss with this, any help would be much appreciated also!!!!
I've made a bit of progress. If I limit my phone to wcdma then I can get it to work periodically. But it will still give me no connection every now and then. If I play with mobile setting's sui that it disconnects and connects a few times it will start working again for a bit.
I'm starting to wonder if this is an google issue.
I tried installing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578828 and it said that installation was successful but when I started the phone I had no service. I tried manually searching for networks but I got a "Unfortunately Settings has stopped working". I had a backup right before installing this but there was a problem with it and couldn't restore. I tried factory reset but now I just get a "Unfortunately phone.android.com proccess has stopped working" when I start the phone and the Settings crash whenever I try to do something and still sim card is not recognized. I tried it on a different phone there was no problem. I am thinking about reseting with CWM but I am hoping you can help me before I do that.
I had the same try taking out your sim and clean it that did it for me
EDIT: does it work when you remove the mod?
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Just tried it but didn't help.
Actually when I remove it and insert it while the phone is on it says "Sim card removed" or "Sim card inserted" and then restarts.
I tried removing it but same thing.
And after I did the factory reset I thought it would delete the mod but it didn't help.
Get a new simcard.. This will solve the problem (most of the time)
I'm not sure if it will fix it. I tried my sim card on a different phone and it was working fine. I tried a sim card from a different carrier and it still wasn't working on my phone.
Normaly a new one does not cost anything so it is worht a try. If its still not working then I suggest you let your phone be repaired.
Normally they don't charge but in my country they do....
That's why I prefer to try repairing it myself and as a last resort to give it to someone....
Still trying to figure out how to though... I'm thinking of trying to go back to stock rom and see if that helps or install CM10 or 11...
Will write again after my tries.
Well I couldn't find what exactly was doing the problem but I found a solution. I repaired my phone with PC Companion and everything is fine now...
In short, I'm trying to get my rooted/rom'd Sprint variation M7 to function w/a new SIM card thru tello. I have the new SIM installed but cannot get the thing to activate. Whenever I click carrier services in settings, I get the com.android.phone error. I've reset the cache for the phone, cleared the cache partition thru TWRP, moved to a new ROM completely but no luck. Has anyone else had this issue.
Should I go back to original firmware? Unroot?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
