So I deleted a bunch of Samsungs replacement apps and i'm now without contacts, clock, etc. - Where can I download the stock applications that Android 2.2 comes with? I tried googling a bit, without luck. :/
It's illegal to host them so you'll have to find them hosted somewhere other than XDA. I don't have a Galaxy S so I don't hae a proper link for you guys but someone else should.
I also suggest you make backups with titanium backup before you remove applications that are core to the ROM.
It's not the samsung stock apps i'm looking for, it's the AOSP apps - the original android applications Why should they be illegal to host?

Back in Eclair, all market apps are stored in their original apk files in system/app, so it's relatively easy to retrieve those apk files.
However, after upgrading to Froyo, the apps are stored in a different format, and in various different locations.
I am not trying to distribute apk files illegally, but if I want to theme an application, I will need to get a copy of the original apk file. (Like the transparent theme for LaunchPro widgets). (Metamorph doesn't work for market apps).
So my question is, how can this be done on a froyo platform?
Download android mate, find the app you want, then long press on app and press details.
It will tell you all the info about it including its location

That solves the mystery. Many thanks.
List of system Apps that you can safely remove from NST
http://www.market4android.com/stock-android-2-1-apps-list
I will give you feedback on how this solution worked out for me.
That's a nice list, but it's not really the stock applications that I want to delete.
I want to get rid of the apps that start with "com.bn...", especially the ones that go on the internet for no reason.
Semi-related: where can I find the stock Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk?
1. To stop "useless" wifi traffic install 'AdFree'.
2. System apps are stored in "/system/app/".
User apps are stored in "/data/app/"

Configure it wisely. Sometimes the developers live off advertisements shown in apps.

I installed ver 0.8.44 the latest version I could find but on running it said it was out of date and I needed a newer version - so it would not work.

1. AdFree worked fine on my NST. Try earlier version for example. 0.8.31.
Maybe it tries to update itself via Google Play?
GP kicked AdFree out of their market.
I can't help you any further.
My NST currently flies to the US for its last check under warranty.
2. You can 'Disable B&N Apps' in 'NookManager'.

Try an old CyanogenMod 5 ROM like this one and extract them from the zip /system/app. CM5 roms are gettting a little hard to find these days so hang onto it in case you need other stock Android 2.1 stuff sometime.
Just installed [AOKP]Galaxian-Soup[GT-7310/7300][r2.1][03.27.2012].
Wanted to get back some of the Samsung apps I had on stock, things like Allshare, Samsung Apps, etc.
Is it possible?
Bump........
I just flashed the ROM you mentioned, and it seems there is a conflict between samsung apps and the ROM (or all ICS ROMs?)
I tried restoring Polaris Office with Titanium Backup but the app FCs shortly after opening. I'll try restoring something else to see if it's a unique problem (I highly doubt it) or if most of the samsung apps have this problem.
Most Samsung apps (including Polaris) have libs in system/lib folder. Without those libs it surely doesn't work. Some apps have dependencies in other system libs and thats why they don't work on ICS.
Hello, i have some questions about the inbuilt apps in a rom.
1. There are always tons of useless apps in the roms, are there roms without apps? i mean why the hell is someone preinstalling facebook, twitter, google+ apps for me??? If i need them i can install them... :/
2. Can i remove the normal "browser" or will the phone get buggy then, couse who needs 2 browsers?
3. Why are so much Rom builders are using this ES filebrowser? I never saw a bad app like that.. it can't even tell me how much free space my sd card has..

1. you can just uninstall them by rooting your phone and use titanium backup to remove those useless application, there are no rom without any application installed if there is the phone will not work on how it supposedly work
2. yes you can use titanium backup but do nandroid backup just to be sure that you can back to phone normal state if there is a problem exist
3. for this i really don't know just wait and there's someone surely answer your questions more intelligently
Ah okay.. yeah well sure an android phone need apps to work, but its just that i had to remove them all again
about the browser... i also can freeze them - if i freeze an app it won't use any ram memory right? so i could just freeze the browser.. Apps that are not system relevant i really delete.. speak memo, twitter, google+, googlemail and so
I made a backup of my CM7 with titanbackup - how can i get some data out of the backup? like phone numbers that aren't synched with google - or whatsapp messages? The first time i did recover the whole CM7 was recovered
And is there a way to "cook" the rom myself? i hope its the same word like it was for nokia roms there you had a rom browser and could delete apps or add apps you wanted to install with the rom and that was called cooking.. So if i get a rom i would check what apps are in and could remove the .apk

Yes you can free ram if your browser keep running but you can force stop the browser in "manage application"
In backup i think you can extract it? Not so sure so we should wait for answer for this
I think the right word is compiling in android terms? Yes you can compile your own rom there's a some tutorial in development section
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda premium
Ah okay.. i found the folder "apps" in the .zip with "system" apps - maybe the system apps that are not removeable without root and the normal.. can i just remove them and add others?
I have an unlocked, S-OFF HK M8 that I flashed with the Android Revolution ROM - works well, except for one thing- certain stock applications went missing (Visual Voicemail, Wireless Hotspot Application, a few others.)
Before I flashed, I made sure to run a Fullbackup.ab in the hopes that I could restore anything I wanted that went missing - I used Titanium Backup to try and fetch/restore the applications through its Restore ADB backup, but while it acts like it's restoring the applications, it doesn't actually do anything.
My question is - is there a way to retrieve these applications? I've been looking around to see if there's a repository for stock applications and the like, but I just haven't been able to find any. I'm hoping it's as simple as flashing/pushing them through ADB, but I just can't locate the applications to begin with. Any advice?
download stock rom(or any other which has the apps you want) and copy all the apps you want from /system/apps then push them to the same location on your phone on /system/apps
