Wifi status shown as "error" - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Experiencing a strange issue with my wifi. I have wifi related profiles set up on tasker, so the wifi turns on every 10 minutes to scan for ssids and then turns back off. It activates different sound settings depending on whether it sees my work wifi or home wifi (and automatically turns on and connects to home network)
About once a day when I'm at work I notice that my work sound profile turns off, and when I go into settings\wireless it shows "error" underneath wifi (where it would ordinarily show "turning on" etc.)
Generally I can just manually turn wifi back on and then everything works as normal again, but a few times I have had to reboot the phone to get wifi to turn on. I have no problem connecting to networks and seem to stay connected just fine once I'm on a network but it is frustrating to have to go in and do this manually almost every day. Plus if my work sound profile gets disabled at the wrong time it could result in my phone ringing during a meeting, which would be very bad.
I'm running cognition beta7 froyo. If anyone has any insight about possible solutions or things I could explore, I'd appreciate it.

I had the same problems on froyo. So I'm guessing that's the cause.
Now I'm on Eclair and haven't noticed it yet.

I noticed something like this happen to me one time on eclair, but the problem has definitely become much worse since moving to ji6.
Were you running ji6 or a cognition
Rom as well? I wonder if one of the JPM roms will suffer from this issue...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

I had that problem on both stock JI6 and Cog 2.2 beta 6 and beta 7

I'm also having the issue on tayutama's jpm rom with reotiented kernel.
I hate to go back to eclair but the wifi based location profiles are a huge feature for me...

Wifi bugging out

Hello, recently my wifi has been acting up. Sometimes it will say it is connected to my wifi network but no web pages or anything work. It happens after I leave my phone in standby for a while, and it will usually start working after restarting my wifi. After I restart wifi so many times it will disconnect even when it's not in standby (and more often) and then eventually the wifi switch on my home screen stops working.
I'm running Android 2.2 Froyo Cyanogen Mod 6 RC2 FRF84B using the jdlfg 2.6.32.9 overclock 300 mhz+1200 MHz kernal.

ok sounds like there could be two reason for this, either the rom or your router. First make sure you have the latest radio for your phone. If possible try a different rom or a nanadroid restore. on to the router, do you have other wireless devices in your home? Are you experiencing this issue on any other device? You may want to try connecting your phone to a different wifi connection just for testing. connect to any available open connection and test to see if the phone does the same thing on a different wifi connection. Now if it does then you know it's most likely an issue with your phone. if that's the case you would want to focus on the rom and or your radio.
If you do not have the same issue after connecting to a different wifi connection then it's not the phone but your home network. You will need to trouble shoot your router, good luck
I'm fairly sure it isn't my rom, although I did only notice it when I started wifi tethering on 2.2 (I never tried it on Eclair though, I only decided to root when I heard Froyo had been leaked). I'm on Cyanogen (I used to be on the stock froyo) and I still get the same problem, I also updated my baseband and I still get the same problem. As for my router I doubt it, my laptop never seems to disconnect along with my wii and any xbox my friends bring over. My sister's Droid also doesn't seem (emphasis on seem, she's not a power user or anything of the sort and I'm not even sure if she has her phone on wifi half of the time, and neither is she, the last time I checked it was connected though) have any problems (she just has a stock Droid, nothing special).
I've tried a newer version of Froyo (I don't have the latest build though atm, but that's because Cyanogen doesn't support it yet).
Does the Droid connect to wifi in any special way that other devices don't? If so then my router might still be a suspect, as I admit the firmware it's running on is glitchy (it actually worked better before I updated it (I was trying to get some remote router switch on my PC to work with it)).
Edit: I discovered recently that no other wifi networks come up when wifi bugs out, although it seems to only happen sometimes.
Fixed the problem, apparently it's caused by a glitch in the settings, when you change the wifi sleep mode settings so that it doesn't sleep after idling for so long the phone assumes it's been changed but it doesn't actually change. Downloading WifiPowerSavingOff fixed it.

[Q] CM7 nightly Wifi issue. Unable to connect.

I am having a wifi connection issue with CM7 nightly build 14&15. When i try to connect to my wifi it allows me to type in my passcode then proceeds to attempt the connection. It appears to be caught in a loop or something. Under wifi connection it shows scanning, connecting, then disconnected then it repeats. Wifi works fine under stock unrooted, rooted and nookie froyo SD. Does anyone else have this issue? I cannot post to android development yet. Thanks in advance.
I have a clean flashed 15 right now, and wifi is working stellar. Did you by chance not format cache/data, and still have a bunch of saved hotspots in wireless? I know a fix earlier was to "forget" all the saved wifi hotspots, and resave them.
Same problem I have been experiencing among others. It seems like if your router is using WPA you will have problems connecting. Switching to a different security encryption or wiping all remembered access points seem to be the only solution that I know of.
Yes, I formated system, data and cache when installing. CM7 works great on my Evo 4g, strange. I tried forgetting the hotspot and received the same error. Will try an unencrypted hotspot and will report back. Don't really understand why I am having this issues and others aren't. Thanks for the replies.

I've seen like 6 other people with this problem its not just you.
I'm experiencing the same problem of Wifi flashing on and off when I try to connect to a WPA encrypted router. Will try to Forget saved networks and see if that solves the problem. I'm running phiremod's version of CM7.
Mallinj. Same issue here with phiremod. Forgetting did not work for me. Let me know what happens for you. Thanks.

Guys check out my thread. I was having the same wifi loop problem.
It's [Problem 1]

I had the same issue toggling airplane mode on and off fixed the issue for me however the little airplane icon stayed for a while then just disappeared after a reboot

That wifi file is named nookie froyo. This definitely works for cm7?
Usually what I have to do is some voodoo with toggling airplane on, then let wifi loop for about five minutes before it finally connects.
Been having this issue as well, what I have been doing when it has been switching on/off in the Wifi Settings is hitting Menu > Advanced settings and waiting a few seconds and it usually connects just fine.

Yeah it works. It takes the working wifi file from nookie froyo and pushes it to your CM7 file.
Has anyone submitted a bug report with cyanogen yet?

I am really hoping I don't start having this problem. The nookie froyo wpa_supplicant file for me was never connecting to ad-hoc, and right now I am connecting to anything.

I had this same problem yesterday morning. What I had to do was forget my network's settings, turn off wifi, then go turn off my router, turn the Nook's wifi back on, let it sit for a few seconds, turn my router back on, then try to connect. Strange as it sounds, this actually worked.
Time pilot aka, Thanks for the tip! Will try it later today.

Finally
I was able to solve my connection loop issues. I tested WPA and WEP on my D-Link Wireless N router DIR-615 with no success. Tried toggling on and off with airplane mode. Tried forgetting my router, turning things on and off at different sequences and intervals.
Then I set my router to B&G only. Basically turning wireless N off and it worked like a charm. I am able to connect using any encryption method. So from my experimenting it was the wireless N protocol that was the issue.
For people out there with issues and want to keep their wireless router encrypted try turning wireless N off. Worked for me.
Thanks everyone for their input.

Wifi shuts off in standby while wifi sleep policy is set to "always on".

Just for the people who have this problem.
I had this problem with Modaco stock rom. I assume i'm not the only one because it seems to be a well known bug...
Despite the sleep profile was set to "always on while sleeping" wifi shuted off after a while after the screen went off.
Tried everything i found on the forums like reboot and so on.
Solved it eventuality by turning Smartshare on and off.
Edit: just a few minutes ago wifi went down in standby again ****...
Dowloaded Wifi-fixer from the market. See if this is working.

It does this sometimes in the stock rom too.
Wifi Fixer app doesn't work.
The only solid solution is assigning a static ip to the phone. Maybe it is also router dependant.

Do you have a Belkin router?
I have the same problem. A few weeks ago I tried a Sitecom router and it workt straight away. No problems what so ever.
With the Belkin router it is stuck at "obtaining IP-adres" and I have never read about a solution.
i have the same problem,
i happens without a real cause...
1. it usually happens to me with Planet AP because at home its o.k only at work its bad.
2. when the problem occurs i am getting "disabled" state on the specific AP.
3. i am running stock v10c with BB26
Any solution??
I had similar problem, my wifi even disconnect during usage, it's not about low signal as my signal is always 2 out of 3 bars. So I was recommended by spica to reflashed bb or use v20c bb+ril which I did the later, everything seems fine so far.
With BB725.
On CM9SK3 it was working correct.
Then I installed DjangoManouche ROMs (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.2.1, 1.3)
Till DM 1.2.1 I used spica kernel (SR2-->SR4TB2) and I had this issue about wifi sleep; I solved with wifi fixer.
Now I'm on DM1.3 + GuesteKrnL 1.6 without wifi fixer and policy "always on" work correctly.
I'm on stock ROM and it happens to me too - but only on certain routers.
Most of the time there's no problem but the problem is really bad with my home router (some old D-Link).
Its a bb/ril related issue

[Q] No WiFi

My One is having some issues when connecting to wifi, I've had this problem with it both on stock and viperRom. Currently where I sit at work I have both my personal phone which is the HTC and my work phone which is a GS3. The GS3 connects fine to wifi and stays connected just like it should, but for whatever reason my One loses connection intermittently which can only be fixed by rebooting or turning the wifi off then back on, but the problem continues to occur. I've turned off the sleep mode off in the power settings and disabled mobile data to try and force it to remain connected to wifi but that doesn't work and the rom doesn't make a difference. I don't have this problem anywhere else except my work, but I do know there aren't any weird settings for the wifi here because I set up the access points myself. There has to be some kind of different between my phone and the GS3. Any one know of any fixes or have the same problem?
Maybe go to Wi-Fi settings and pick your frequency band instead of auto

Interesting, didn't even think to dig into the settings that far. Now, to just figure out what frequency I set the access points to and see if that works. Not sure why that would make a difference though. The GS3 sitting right next to it is set to auto and not on 2.4 or 5 so I doubt that is the cause of the problem.
So far, no dice. I guess I should have specified that what happens is the phone is connected to the access point but fails to keep a connection to the internet. So, basically the phone is connected to the access point and it has internet for a little bit, but after a few minutes there is no longer internet but it still remains connected to the access point.
Update: After half a day on 2.4 and 5 for frequencies there is no change, I still have the intermittent problems while the GS3 right next to it is fine. I'm curious what the difference is and how to fix it.
So after a long time experimenting I think I may have found the problem. I started using nova launcher so I would be able to have more screens than just the 5 with sense. However, I noticed that wifi was working correctly when nova was set as the default launcher. To test it further I spent the past week with one day on nova and one day on sense 5. I consistently had no problems with nova, but did have problems sense. When I did have issues all i had to do was clear data and cache on htc sense and set nova as the default launcher then reboot and no problems after that. I like nova so I will continue using it until aosp roms are clear of all the bricking problems.

[Q] random wifi disconnects

i keep getting random wifi disconnects all the time. it is getting a little old. i was wondering if anyone can help me fix this problem? i have tried to install the rom several times with the same results each time. i have also changed router channels and setting with no change.
anyone have any ideas?
i am on
Bad Boyz Sprint ONE ROM 4.3 v1.2 Sense 5.0 ROM
hboot 1.44
radio 1.00.20.1108
Been having same issues since 4.3 update and I'm stock.

Same here, but it only happens with some networks, like at work. At home, no problems. Running Team Nocturnal 4.4.2, latest radio, and tried other radios as well.
At work, I've got to cycle airplane mode on/off to get things running again, but then WiFi drops out again.
Tried turning off WiFi optimization, tried forcing 2.4ghz only vs auto, and also tried manually adding network by typing in SSID (on a Google forum, someone mentioned this fixed things for them).
No idea what's causing this. Like I said, home network works perfectly fine on 2.4ghz and auto mode.
Try updating firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48649096

Tried that-- did it before I wiped everything to install 4.4.2.
I had this issue too a while back. What seemed to fix it for me was unchecking Wi-Fi optimization in the Wi-Fi advanced settings. Try this, hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Already tried it.
Don't know why this is happening, and only on some networks.
Works 100% at home. Good enough! But if anyone finds a fix, I'm all ears.
Always disconnecting from any Wi-Fi source in on. At home either on the at&t uverse gateway or Linksys bridge in room. Same scenario. Even at Starbucks or in hotels i get the same issue. Just randomly drops off switches to 3g/4g then reconnects to Wi-Fi. Just like it did right now as I'm trying to post this

Same here. Completely stock. Happens on multiple wi-fi networks. I've tried all of the fixes mentioned in this thread. Extremely annoying. An airplane mode toggle seems to fix things for awhile, but it always comes back.
Any word on the likelihood of this being fixed with the upcoming 4.4 update?

I had this problem too doesnt happen on CM 11 but if i RUU back to stock wifi disconnects all the time. I disabled the NFC and that seem to work for me.
to disable NFC go to settings and under wireless networks there is a more menu. uncheck the last box which is NFC. the icon will also disappear at the top.
still the same. i tried all of those options. still does the random disconnect to mobile data then back to wifi.
This may sound crazy, but try switching network to cdma only, before turning on wifi. Noticed the random disconnects when there was no 4G LTE or it was spotty. Hope this helps Turning off mobile data completely while on wifi should also work

Any chance we're all having issues with the same comcast wireless router/modem?
I'm having issues with 2wire and Linksys. Nothing has seemed to help issue. Besides just staying connected to sprint network.
