What to do?

Search the rom bible stickyed at the top of this forum for the stock rom under odin. You'll have to odin flash it, but it's not that hard.once you're done you'll be completely stock. if you want root you'll have to reroot your device.everything you need to know has already ben written up just search for odin.

If this doesn't work get Eugene's froyo that doesn't brick and odin that rom.
(If you had voodoo and didn't disable it before trying to change roms you'll have to use this method.)

Maybe im a noob, but i dont understand what you mean by "stock rom under odin"?

lol, i solved it by charging the battery

[Q] ROM backup

hi all,
i've got a problem which hopefully you guys can help me with. i rooted my i9000(2.2) with z4root and then installed oclf....
now i wanted to flash gingerbread 2.3.3, so to backup the current ROM i installed ROM manager 3.0.2.2 and did flash cwm recovery, then proceeded to 'backup current ROM' but i'm getting this screen - Android system recovery (3e) and its giving me the message that its' updating media, installing mulit-csc and install default apk-files... how can i backup the ROM? i tried searching but couldn't come up with anything useful...any help would be appreciated.. i'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to this stuff
you can't install a custom zip with 3e recovery install a kernel containing cwm or if it is easier for you a rom including it(darky resurection for example) you can also downgrade your recovery and then install cwm with rom manager(2.1 roms have 2e recovery it is even possible to downgrade it with a script)
easiest would be darkys rom with odin
do you have 3btn?
edit:btw you need clockworkmod(cwm) to do a backup

yes i've got 3btn and about the cwm it's currently unable to backup... should i install speedmod kernel?.... i'll try darky's rom like you mentioned but won't i need to backup first?
thanks for the reply
well you can't backup without cwm any kernel flashable with odin/heimdall having cwm will do it ...
with darky's resurrection you will loose all apps and everything
you should use titanium to save them but don't restore system apps in 2.3
backing up efs is a must tho...

sounds like CWM is NOT installed to me? (3e would seem to indicate it hasn't to me) but I haven gone to gingerbread myself yet.

did it!... flashed speedmod with odin and used the 3btn for going into recovery mode... selected backup and restore and then backup all.... got the backup file on the sd card and copied it to the pc too... so i guess i'm ready to install darky's resurrection...thanks a lot for the link
one more question, after installing darky's rom can i upgrade to gingerbread 2.3 with kies if samsung releases the upgrade?

no it will not work with kies buth with odin
remember you will delete everythinv on your phone (not the files/media but settings apps contacts etc. so save them)
you can use darkys normal rom no need for resurection

i had oclf and speedmod installed.. so i disabled the oclf lagfix and removed the ext2 tools... but before flashing darky's rom i forgot to go in recovery mode and disable lagfix, is that a problem?? the rom is working perfectly but i read some posts that the lagfix should be disabled...

they aren't on by default with speedmod.
even if on it shouldn't be a problem because both kernels(you used dark voodoo with darky ?) know ext4 but it is better to deactivate it. i myself had a problem with it it didn't mount data..
if it works now you are good to go
just a tip make nandroid backup before any lagfix chance

before flashing i installed darkyrom manager and in the kernel option selected skip since i already had speedmod... i think i didn't use dark voodoo(installed version 9.5)?...but i did go in the advanced options in speedmod before the flash and enabled the lagfix and changed the data_fs, cache & DBDATA to ext4... i have already done nandroid backup....the phone has become so smooth it just feels different
thanks for replying gbohm.. you've been very helpful
you are very welcome.
you kept the kernel so what you flashed had no influence on your lagfix.
only if you chance ther kernel there could be problems.
if you flash a kernel better turn off lagfix (just to be safe)
in many cases there is no need to put it off but you have to know them with off you are safe to go...

you are still on stock recovery,
i assume ROM manager will of created update.zip so what you need to do is select : apply sdcard:update.zip
you may need to do this 2-3 times before automatically going into CWM (you will notice the difference)

How to out from stock? Or how to fix and getting options like backup/restore .?
I changed the rom name to update.zip but also doesnt work.
Thanks.

arrrr....... im sorry i misread your post.
you dont have CWM at all. either try ROM manager again. or flash CF-Root / kernel thru Odin, that will give you 2e / CWM recovery which will allow you to flash the ROM.
You CANNOT flash ROMS with 3e (stock) android recovery

you can only install CWM via this method if your recovery is version 2e (or something like that)
if you want to be sure check your rom version and find a hacked kernel (speedmod or voodoo) with CWM and install it using the PDA box in odin nothing else (no pit, no modem etc) and make sure repartition is unchecked. I found this worked when others methods failed.
Yes its 2e
There is any method without odin?
Because iam.using linux.
Thanks.

I was having a few dramas getting CWM Recovery to run on the stock JVB Ginger ROM. I put in the CF-Root-XW_XEE_JVB-v3.1-CWM3RFS flash with Odin 1.3 a few times, but couldn't get my device to boot into it with 'three-buttons'. I then went into Settings/Applications/Development, turned USB debugging to ON, restarted the phone with 'three-buttons' and voila, away we went...

[Q] Problem trying to flash a custom rom onto a galaxy s on orange uk - recovery mode

I've downloaded ROM manager and clicked on 'flash clockwork recovery'. this placed a 'update.zip' onto my phone. I downloaded a custom ROM and placed this zip in the same place. in ROM manager i choose install from sd card, locate the custom rom and select it. i reboot into clockwork recovery mode and i get the 'android system recovery mode' The options at the top are in blue. i believe this is wrong?
I'm led to believe i should click on 'apply sdcard:update.zip' but when i do i get
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Install aborted
I'm using a samsung galaxy s with the standard orange rom.
Any ideas?
U need to root your device first... flash a kernel like speedmod and it'll rot ur device after this u can install ur custom rom. remember while flashing via odin repartition should be unchecked
You would root and then just need to flash update.zip, dont place rom anywhere near it. I would delete your current update.zip and go through process (minus rom) again.
Alternatively and easier, is what ^^ he said.

I've already rooted my phone.
Dont i need to put the downloaded mod on my sdcard to install it? :/
Rom manager puts the update.zip file there but when i try to run it it fails :/
Yep place the rom into sdcard/
Sometimes in stock recovery, you may have to choose flash update.zip twice to install cwm
However
Mate, if you can use odin, just flash a pre rooted kernel with cwm installed. Should take about 5 mins to download and flash. Chainfire would probably be my recommendation.
Make sure you read kernel flashing instructions before you start.

Not at all, just curious. Can you not force download mode via adb? (havent needed to use it myself, so can't advise further)
i would suggest you apply the 3 button combo fix though before proceeding. If you can get into dl mode, its nigh impossible to brick, if not, then its all too easy.....
Dont rush mate, have a good search and read-up first.
Hope I've helped some.

No worries. Cwm method will only work with 2e recovery - if you have 3e, then you will need dl mode odin and kernel.

NANDROID ? Don't use stock recovery. Don't make nandroid backup for stock rom.
so how should i flash cwm recovery .
and which recovery is best suited for nandroid backups and comptability with all apps.
does it necessarily require me to install custom roms.

I am in same situation with a GT-S5570, it has stock rom and is rooted. I downloaded Clockwork Manager to it's SD card.
Then from stock Recovery manager I tried to install CWM from sd card. The screen got distorted and graphic looked awful.
Had to reboot and nothing got installed.
Tried Odin but it won't recognize my phone while in Downloading mode.
I want to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 Android 4.2........any ideas? I guess I need somekind of backup first, if I mess up and need to reinstall stock? Hard to do with stock recovery mode though.

Apps can always be reinstalled in no time I think, problem is I can't install CWM from stock recovery, when selecting update from sd/zip or whatever it says, I pick the CWM file on my SD-card.
Then the graphic gets messed up and I can no longer see the menu clear.

before you flash cwm make sure its in the root directory of your sdcard... . So to say sd root is to say the topmost folder on the sdcard, which is just on the sd and not in a folder.
without getting odin recognize your Mobile you should not flash anything as if you get in any trouble it would be easy for you to flash the stock rom
and best and safest method to flash cwmr is to flash it through odin
you cannot backup stock rom with cwm recovery only custom one's can be backed up
to backup apps and data you should use titanium backup
