I love the glossy black buttons on the new HTC Blackboard theme but I hate the stupid chalk lines that outline some of the frames elsewhere.
Is it possible to remove them somehow?
How do we create our own themes I wonder?
Easiest thing to do would be to pull the themes/files from the phone and edit them.
Only issue then is that the phone has a read-only /system so we can't put them back on. Wonder if we could run them of the SD card or fake a HTC Hub method of installing them
Can you point me to the location of these files...I'll take a look since I am on HD2 with DHD ROM and can play on the sdcard

It's just one apk file and it is called BlackBoard.apk. It is located in the /system/app directory.

First, I got the idea and some of the icons from skilty in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425176. Thanks to skilty.
Although I started with skilty's theme, I have pretty much redone all the icons. Not everything was covered in the Rhodium Manila so I needed to add several things. I scoured the internet for some of the other icons and assembled them here.
The first picture is the loading GIF after a reset. The second picture is the background. The third is some screen shots of the TF3D manila. The last picture is the phone dialer.
For the contacts, I have used the Matrix cell phone for the mobile device, the old fashioned phone (hard line) as the home phone, and a phone booth as the work phone.
There are icons for Manila Today Page and for the new Manila TV tab.
Before you do any overwriting of files, I would suggest copying all your manila files to a folder on your desktop in case you want to go back to the way things were before.
I've attached all the manila files in the New Matrix Manila zipped file. The dialer screen, background picture, and other files are in the other zipped file. You just need to copy the manila files onto your device and then use a program like total commander to copy them to your \windows\ directory. I haven't had much luck removing TF3D from today and then re-enabling it. I pretty much had to do a reset after copying the files.
I'm having trouble right now uploading the loading screen gif. I'll see if I can still upload it.
I hope some of you enjoy it! And I don't take any responsibility if anything happens to your phone. There shouldn't be a problem since it is only graphic files that are changing.
I almost forgot to include the Action Screen I created.
You first need to have this installed (I know it was already installed in the Eneregy Rom series 2 I am using). http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=58625
Then you need to copy the contents of the attachment into the \windows\actionscreen\ directory. I have changed one of the buttons to a 3G toggle instead of bluetooth since I never used that one.
Also there is a skin for psShutXP. Its only the image files, so I'm assuming you already have it installed on your PPC device.
Attached is a new action screen by Oz from here.
And finally I have attached a skin for xdashutdown developed here.
Enjoy.
Here is a skin for the power radio app, Resco Explorer, and s2u2. I've also uploaded the matrix background that you'll need for s2u2 background.
Do not understand why this theme was buried. It is soo nice. indeed.

First, do you have Sense 2.1 or the newer 2.5 installed. You should find the info under you device info in settings.
Also, I think I'm going to resurrect this theme so I can use the new CHTScheduler for the CHT Home Tab. So I'll be updating this for sense 2.5 in the coming weeks. You may want to hold on for that.
If you still want what's posted here, I'll throw together some cab files for you. Most of the stuff is manual install, meaning you have to copy all the files to your devices windows directory. Does any of that help?
Hi!
Thank you very, very much! I already took some parts of it (the background pictures) and i put it on my phone. It looks ...WOW...but i still want to install the whole theme.. Yes, i have the latestes Enegy Rom installed, with Sense 2.5...So i will look forward for your new theme (and, if is not to disturbing, the guide step by step how to install it - i undestood that i have to copy all the files to \Windows, but..this is it?? ).

There is only CAB attached. Could You attach also ZIP to this post?
While I'm new back in playing with the Android OS, I spent a ton of time modifying my iPhone when I had it, creating custom icons, wallpapers, overlays, etc.
What I've noticed recently is that most of the icons in the Android OS really don't have much synergy in their designs. Every widget maker has something a little different in what they see as their own design, but they often times don't make all of the widgets that I would like, and I'm stuck with a hodgepodge of different looking icons and widgets cluttering my screen.
I'm curious if there is a somewhat easy way to modify the graphics files of these widgets so that I can create a very clean theme. To give you an idea of what I would enjoy creating, I'll attach a before/after picture of some modified icons that I was using on the iPhone. While they retain the color schemes for the most part, I felt like I was able to make everything feel a bit more cohesive in a theme, and I would love to continue that trend on my Hero.
So the eternal question.... can it be done? And if so, is it something a mere noob back to the Android OS can make happen?
it is actually pretty easy, i will explain as good as i can. there are some drawbacks:
you need to resign the apk. there is testkey available at this forum, and i think you can generate your own with the sdk (not sure if and how). but after resigning the apps are signed with the testkey, not the developers key. i do not really understand what that means, but it was a hint i read somewhere...
i am not sure whether the apps will be flagged by the market as "update available", but i don't think so because they won't appear in your downloads list, since you have to install them "manually".
that is AFAIK all for the cons, here's the how:
1. extract the .apk, rename to .zip if necessary.
2. find the image you want to be replaced, should be somewhere in [extracted folder]/res/drawable/
3. edit the image to your needs and save it.
4. re-zip the contents of the folder (including the not changed elements of course) to whatever.zip
5. rename whatever.zip to whatever.apk
6. sign whatever.apk
as for signing, here is how to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551711&highlight=howto
the process for apps is basically the same as for update.zips, just don't use with recovery image but filemanager to install as regular app...
i think there is a theme howto out there on this forum, maybe that helps too.
kendong2 explains it well .... it is easy when it all clicks into place check my siignature for more help
Either I'm really blind or Just haven't searched hard enough.
Is there any software for creating themes for android phones ... more specifically my Desire HD?? - Preferably MAC?
This is my first android phone and I've come from a Nokia background ... they had a program dedicated to themeing/skinning the Symbian platform - just wondering if android has the same?
I've read about people extracting .apk's and editing png's inside of this ... then re-signing etc. This cant be the only way as its VERY long winded. Can't believe that there isnt software out there that has the Android UI elements that you can skin up?
Sorry if i've completely missed the post or guide if there is one!
you get photoshop make the assets then replace the ones from the apk for the program you want to change. that is one method and works for changing things like the widget backgrounds
then custom launcher can be customised ie dock and icons and then programs like bettercut can be used to use images in place of icons for programs ect.....
if you edit an apk tho you will have to resign it inorder to install it on your phone
Hi,
I just started a new project.
It's a little piece of software that can be used to easily interchange image files in framework-res.apk and other files. Currently it's just a proof of concept. The software is able to pull the files from phone, extract them, exchange the statusbar (just for my phone right now) and push it all back to the phone.
I first wanted to make it wysiwyg... But that won't work because the devices are too different after all. And I still have to find a way to deal with odex'd files.
However, I think it will be one of the more comfortable ways to exchange resource files.
To check it out or for feature requests and stuff look at https://sourceforge.net/projects/droidthemetool/
Hope you are interested...
Not sure if I am gonna use it myself! Apart from replacing my notification bar with a black one.
Cool, would love to see something easier to mod / customize the status bar. I gather you would have to be rooted for this?
Yes you have to be root. It is necessary to remount the system partition writable and replace the resource files.
Hi - I apologize if this has been covered, I was unable to find an answer.
I have the Verizon HTC One - and its been great getting back to Android after being away for a few years. My question is around themes and the great stuff that comes from everyone on MyColorScreen.com...for instance I've downloaded Zooper which looks great, however if I want to use someone's .zw file I can't figure out where to drop it on the One since there's no SD card.
I have installed HTC Sync Manager - but not sure what folder to drop this file into so Zooper will recognize it. Or is there another method? And not limited to Zooper, if there are other apps or better ways to get custom themes on to the One I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks for any assistance!
you need to read a little more
There is an internal SD card, connect your phone up to a PC and have a look around
