BlueTooth and custom roms - Droid X Android Development

Is the voice dialing BT functionality of the Droid X part of blur? Anyone use a BT headset and a custom rom that can confirm one way or the other?

well for those interested... BT functions from stock DX rom are lost in at least Rubix blurless

Idk if this is the same as Bluetooth voice but you can download "Voice Search" from Google in the Market and get voice recognition back for texting and search. Don't know if it works for Bluetooth though

It's not. The stock voice dialer on the dx is absolutely leaps and bounds better than aosp, I am shocked deva have not rooted it apart and used it for non blur roms.

voice search

Has anyone found out how to make voice search work? I tried different ways and still come up with results that are not even close.
You must be using an Eclair build, they haven't quite got the audio lib's perfect so voice search doesn't work yet.
If you really want it, use a donut build like plemen's or myn's. Voice search works great on donut.

Bluetooth voice dialler on Captivate-based ROM

Has anyone yet found a solution for the voice dialler on captivate-based 2.2 froyo roms?
I'm running cognition 3.04 currently, and I haven't heard any news for this long standing issue...
I can pull up the voice dialler with my bluetooth headset, but it doesn't recognize any of my commands.

Doesn't work on the rogers release either. I imagine it won't be an available option when att finally releases froyo.
Firefly worked with voice dialing ( and bluetooth voice dialing ) without doing anything. Just flash it.

Where is the speech to text for CM7?

Trying to figure out where the speech to text feature is on CyanogenMod 7. I hope its available. Is there a setting missing or is it not there?

What are you talking about?

Do you mean Voice search etc? It's a part of Gapps which you flash alongside CM7.
You mean the keyboard voice button? I didn't see that on the Gingerbread keyboard in CM7 either. I use the HTC_IME keyboard and it works, so I guess the keyboard is just lacking. I've looked through the settings and can't figure out how to turn the button on with the normal GB keyboard. Maybe I've missed something.
Post in the CM7 Dev Thread if you want an answer or even better in the Q&A forum!!
Or just use the MARKET, voice search....
Eyeyeyee
Look under Settings->Language & Keyboard->Android keyboard. There is a Voice input selector that lets you choose how the mic icon shows up.
Installed gapps with CM7. Was wondering where the mic icon on the keyboard went lol. After installing google voice search the mic icon decided to show up. What a great rom .

What's your favorite voice contol for ICS

I love ICS. There are too many things that make it easier to use than GB, but the one thing that is making me want to change back is the lack of a reliable voice control app.
My favorite for GB was Choice Dialer Plus, especially because it was mostly accurate and did not need a data connection. If there was an ICS app like this I haven't found it.
Vlingo and it's offshoot, voice talk, are pretty good, but still not as reliable or usable as CDP was on GB.
What's your choice of app for this need?
Basic needs I consider valuable for voice control:
-dial like choicedialerplus, without using data connection
-bluetooth initiated
-dial numbers
-voice confirm
- no screen touch needed to select
-send texts
-open apps
-find local places
-start navigate
TRIED:
Vlingo-****
good-recognition,confirm in car mode
bad-complex
VoicetoGo-****
good-recognition,confirm in car mode
bad-have to choose from list
AIVC-****
good-siri like, BT mic,nicevoice,
bad-touch select for choices, end up having to use button on BT bad timing.
VoiceControl-
good-recognition, great support from developer
bad-takes too long to look up contact, 'initializatin in progress" everytime both being addressed
Evi-
good-siri like
bad-no bt, no dial
VoiceSearch(google)-**
good-dials#s,
bad-cant initiate from button or bt,no settings, selects any name matching one spoken
AVX-*
good-
bad-lots of text, have to push buttons
SpeaktoIt Assistant
good-customizable, recognition
bad-no BT
Trying:
Dragon Go
Eva
iris
Andy
Skyvi
Cyberon

Yes, that one's pretty good. I couldn't get it to work with my BT, though and when I asked the developer was told it was coming in the future. I'd also like to see one of these apps that doesn't take up the screen when activated so I could read info while speaking or waiting for a result.
I really am surprised that ICS doesn't have more compatible alternatives for this as it is definitely the way forward and ios has gotten a great head start.
SpeaktoIt! I love my Sam! Made him look just like someone I know and he is very amusing, I think that is the only voice assistant app that actually has potential. What it needs is BT and more direct controls with less involvement, for example, I want it to send texts messages just by saying the name of the recipient, the text and that's it, otherwise it defeats the purpose of voice control. Other than that I found it to be very accurate, even with my accent. I also prefer the avatar interface to just generic exchange.
Some of Sam's sayings:
- Sam, I think you are hot
- You are not so bad yourself, boss
- How about we have sex?
- Lets keep it professional, boss
Aww, bless his little electronic heart. My mom got offended on his behalf when I got frustrated and told him to shut the hell up. She thought I am being rude!!!! Hahahaha.
not sure why they don't have BT avaialbility on such a good piece of work.
I'm testing a new voice control for the developer and hopefully that will shape up as it's excellent now with some annoying delays.

Possible solutions:
- Uninstall all other voice control apps and install again
- Sometimes apps icon doesn't appear but are installed in the system, so check that in settings>apps
-Re-download the file and install again
- It may be ROM related, I have used it in PARANOIDANDROID HD2 [v1.0] [TABLET/HYBRID] ROM
Hacked Galaxy SIII SVoice (Voice Talk)
is very good but needs a good connection

[Q] Vivid with ICS and the Voice Dialer.

I am going to upgrade to Vivid from my Inspire 4G. But I just read that with ICS Voice Dialer no longer works and that is one thing on my Inspire 4g that I use the most. What I like to do is get the Vivid (only $49 from Att and it already comes with ICS) and root it to install the last version of GB that the Voice Dialer worked. I have been reading the crippled Voice Dialer thread and it seems that everybody is looking for a workaround to the problem but willing to live with the flaw just to have ICS. I don't really know the major difference between the GB and ICS but to me, it really isn't worth changing if I am going to lose the Voice Dialer. Has anyone else tried what I want to do? I have been reading the Vivid forum I can tell there is lot of difference how things are done to root this phone than my Inspire 4G. I would appreciate any input regarding this matter.
I happened to stumble upon a pretty good interim solution. It's called Voice Control. The free version is called Voice Control Test.
I have tried them all and this is the only one that comes close to working correctly without screwing up other Bluetooth devices.

I decided to go back to GB for this very same reason. ICS is nice and all, and, as a whole there are many changes and optimization's. But if you use sense, 3.5 is not that different from 3.6. Not only voice dialer does not work over bluetooth, there are also many apps that don't work or do not work correctly on 4.03.
After I went S-off on my phone I just decided to install an older version of android. I was afraid that the new Hboot would screw things up but I still tried it and everything seems to be working. I did have a little of an issue with the kernel so I flashed it twice, before and after installing the gingerbread rom.
Third Party Voice Dialer Apps
There is a extensive thread on this issue in the General section. This link takes you to page 4 where I discuss Cyberon Voice Commander. I had also tested Vlingo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562886&highlight=voice+dialer&page=4
At least one person tried to use a custom ROM with the voice dialer added back in. While there are differing opinions on what works best, I found Voice Commander with ICS to have the same functionality as the built-in voice dialer in Android 2.3.4. Look at the whole thread to see what others have to say.
See also this thread for another recommended app.

Cyberon Voice Commander made my BT functionality flakey.
However, I found Voice Control which works must better. I think the free version is called Voice Control Test.
Set the accuracy low and fast which is the 2 setting. Even at this low accuracy, it is really good.

One point we should make is that Bluetooth sets in vehicles and BT headsets can vary in their capabilities and ability to work with the Vivid (and other phones). While CVC works well for me, WillGill had more success with another product.
It may take some experimenting as WillGill and I did (and Vivid 2X also), but I believe you can find a product that will restore voice dialer capabilities without having to root your phone and install a custom ROM. Of course, Google should never have removed it, but that's another issue.
Just wanted to share my solution:
