Trying to figure out where the speech to text feature is on CyanogenMod 7. I hope its available. Is there a setting missing or is it not there?

What are you talking about?

Do you mean Voice search etc? It's a part of Gapps which you flash alongside CM7.
You mean the keyboard voice button? I didn't see that on the Gingerbread keyboard in CM7 either. I use the HTC_IME keyboard and it works, so I guess the keyboard is just lacking. I've looked through the settings and can't figure out how to turn the button on with the normal GB keyboard. Maybe I've missed something.
Post in the CM7 Dev Thread if you want an answer or even better in the Q&A forum!!
Or just use the MARKET, voice search....
Eyeyeyee
Look under Settings->Language & Keyboard->Android keyboard. There is a Voice input selector that lets you choose how the mic icon shows up.
Installed gapps with CM7. Was wondering where the mic icon on the keyboard went lol. After installing google voice search the mic icon decided to show up. What a great rom .

Hello and sorry for my English.
Your forum helps me a lot about my new phone Galaxy Note.
The Custom Rom is really beautiful, but here is my problem.
I use very often the voice search Google for French is the best.
Can add in a custom rom because it is often absent.
I already installed the 2.1.4 apk.
Everything works except in the SMS.
The microphone is off

New Google search and all update is installed.
Voice not works in SMS
I tested Rocket ROM V17 V18 V19

I am having this same issue with several custom ROMs that I have installed. And I have done a full wipe prior to installing, and I have run the jBroid Kernel Cleaning Script, and still cannot get Voice Input to work on either the standard keyboard or Thumb Keyboard. I have it checked in Settings when I can - in some ROMs the checkbox is greyed out and I can't even check it.
I have been searching high and low for a fix for this. It worked fine on my stock KK9 ROM and on Antoniomistretta's fine KK9 custom ROM, and I had it working on Rocket ROM for a time. Now I can't get it activated and it's driving me crazy, because that is a feature I use multiple times every day in Messaging app.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Any way to get stock ICS keyboard on an att vivid rom? The stuff in the market is sketchy
as of right now there isn't any way, however thumb keyboard is a fantastic substitute to the htc keyboard, or even perfect or swift key.
however thumb has been my favorite

Im using Go Keyboard right now since its the most popular.
Hacker Keyboard is my favorite. It's very accurate, adjustable size, and loads of features.
Cool. Thanks. Let's hope we get stock ICS keyboard on this.

There is an "ICS Keyboard" in the market, both a free and paid version. Its actually one of my favorite keyboards simply because it's so responsive on my rather low end device. I switch around though, I keep Go Keyboard and Hacker's Keyboard for when I feel like switching things up.
I've used a LOT of keyboards on the market :-/

perfectly good ICS keyboards in market...i've been using the same one for 3 weeks.ICS Keyboard by Binary Bulge. the free one...
Installation Process
Question: is the installation process similar at all to the way you did it in the past? First install the keyboard, then go turn the keyboard on in settings, then go to a text input field and long-press and get settings, choose the newly installed keyboard? This is not working for me, I can install, and enable the keyboard, but I cannot find any way to switch my input method!
If you know the answer I'll thank your response
But seriously, thanks

I love ICS. There are too many things that make it easier to use than GB, but the one thing that is making me want to change back is the lack of a reliable voice control app.
My favorite for GB was Choice Dialer Plus, especially because it was mostly accurate and did not need a data connection. If there was an ICS app like this I haven't found it.
Vlingo and it's offshoot, voice talk, are pretty good, but still not as reliable or usable as CDP was on GB.
What's your choice of app for this need?
Basic needs I consider valuable for voice control:
-dial like choicedialerplus, without using data connection
-bluetooth initiated
-dial numbers
-voice confirm
- no screen touch needed to select
-send texts
-open apps
-find local places
-start navigate
TRIED:
Vlingo-****
good-recognition,confirm in car mode
bad-complex
VoicetoGo-****
good-recognition,confirm in car mode
bad-have to choose from list
AIVC-****
good-siri like, BT mic,nicevoice,
bad-touch select for choices, end up having to use button on BT bad timing.
VoiceControl-
good-recognition, great support from developer
bad-takes too long to look up contact, 'initializatin in progress" everytime both being addressed
Evi-
good-siri like
bad-no bt, no dial
VoiceSearch(google)-**
good-dials#s,
bad-cant initiate from button or bt,no settings, selects any name matching one spoken
AVX-*
good-
bad-lots of text, have to push buttons
SpeaktoIt Assistant
good-customizable, recognition
bad-no BT

Dragon Go

Skyvi

Yes, that one's pretty good. I couldn't get it to work with my BT, though and when I asked the developer was told it was coming in the future. I'd also like to see one of these apps that doesn't take up the screen when activated so I could read info while speaking or waiting for a result.
I really am surprised that ICS doesn't have more compatible alternatives for this as it is definitely the way forward and ios has gotten a great head start.
SpeaktoIt! I love my Sam! Made him look just like someone I know and he is very amusing, I think that is the only voice assistant app that actually has potential. What it needs is BT and more direct controls with less involvement, for example, I want it to send texts messages just by saying the name of the recipient, the text and that's it, otherwise it defeats the purpose of voice control. Other than that I found it to be very accurate, even with my accent. I also prefer the avatar interface to just generic exchange.
Some of Sam's sayings:
- Sam, I think you are hot
- You are not so bad yourself, boss
- How about we have sex?
- Lets keep it professional, boss
Aww, bless his little electronic heart. My mom got offended on his behalf when I got frustrated and told him to shut the hell up. She thought I am being rude!!!! Hahahaha.
not sure why they don't have BT avaialbility on such a good piece of work.
I'm testing a new voice control for the developer and hopefully that will shape up as it's excellent now with some annoying delays.
SGS3 S-VOICE for HD2 V.1.3 - Fully Working

Possible solutions:
- Uninstall all other voice control apps and install again
- Sometimes apps icon doesn't appear but are installed in the system, so check that in settings>apps
-Re-download the file and install again
- It may be ROM related, I have used it in PARANOIDANDROID HD2 [v1.0] [TABLET/HYBRID] ROM
Hacked Galaxy SIII SVoice (Voice Talk)

Hi guys,
i open this thread to understand what are the requirements (system apks) to let voice input of keyboards work.
I googled and i found (or at least i understood) that the only app needed for voice input is "voice search" of google.
I already installed it, but i have no microphone icon on system keyboard.
I also tried other keyboards but, even if there is the mic icon, it does absolutely nothing, so i think there is something missing.
What can it be?
I already tried reflashing rom and kernel.
I'm on MiniCM10 by naa and naa-jb kernel.
I love the secondary keys that CM11 has on the keyboard. Such as "m" is a question mark and so on..
Since I can't have that right now, how would I get that keyboard back?
I have tried googling to no avail. Not sure what that would be called.
Anyone care to help? This boosts productivity when typing on the phone 100%.

Try SwiftKey, it is free since yesterday and a much better keyboard.
What are my other options? Can't I flash that keyboard? Where would I find it? Gapps packages?

Just open the google Play store and search for Swiftkey. Then install it. Or Look for another keyboard. I like Swype.
I know there are other packages.. It is clearly not the point..
AOSP Keyboard with alternate keys on long press..
Sent from my Moto X
From your original post it seemed like the point was you want a keyboard with secondary keys on it. The keyboards mentioned have that. You may want to explore Cyanogen forums if that is the only acceptable keyboard for you.
No.. As I said. I wanted AOSP with alternative keys on long press

For simple keyboard apk you can try kii keyboard, it has a theme that looks exactly the same as google/aosp keyboard and has also the secondary keys on long press
If you're really willing to adventure in replace stock keyboard, you can try this one:
