[Q] requirements for voice input keyboard - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
i open this thread to understand what are the requirements (system apks) to let voice input of keyboards work.
I googled and i found (or at least i understood) that the only app needed for voice input is "voice search" of google.
I already installed it, but i have no microphone icon on system keyboard.
I also tried other keyboards but, even if there is the mic icon, it does absolutely nothing, so i think there is something missing.
What can it be?
I already tried reflashing rom and kernel.
I'm on MiniCM10 by naa and naa-jb kernel.

Where is the speech to text for CM7?

Trying to figure out where the speech to text feature is on CyanogenMod 7. I hope its available. Is there a setting missing or is it not there?

What are you talking about?

Do you mean Voice search etc? It's a part of Gapps which you flash alongside CM7.
You mean the keyboard voice button? I didn't see that on the Gingerbread keyboard in CM7 either. I use the HTC_IME keyboard and it works, so I guess the keyboard is just lacking. I've looked through the settings and can't figure out how to turn the button on with the normal GB keyboard. Maybe I've missed something.
Post in the CM7 Dev Thread if you want an answer or even better in the Q&A forum!!
Or just use the MARKET, voice search....
Eyeyeyee
Look under Settings->Language & Keyboard->Android keyboard. There is a Voice input selector that lets you choose how the mic icon shows up.
Installed gapps with CM7. Was wondering where the mic icon on the keyboard went lol. After installing google voice search the mic icon decided to show up. What a great rom .

[Android 1.6+] Bluetooth (Null) Keyboard

Bluetooth (Null) Keyboard
Hi my fellow XDA-Members,
i would like to tell you about my little app.
I'm happy about any feedback and open for suggestions.
Nullkeyboard/0Keyboard or empty Keyboard (what ever you want to call it) adds an extra keyboard to your device, which will not show when selecting text fields.
It is intended to be used with hardware keyboards (i.e. bluetooth keyboards), to stop the software keyboard from opening and taking away half of the screen.
Additionally it improves system performance as it frees up resources that would normaly be used by a software keyboard (layout, dictionarys etc.).
This app is handy for people who regularly use an extra keyboard with their android tablet. While they cannot uninstall the system keyboards, they can unload them from system memory by choosing Null Keyboard as current keyboard.
A widget is included to allow easy switching between Null Keyboard and others.
This is not a driver and will not make your bluetooth keyboard work and neither will it break anything. Don't complain that it doesnt make your bluetooth keyboard work, because that is not its purpose.
MARKET LINK
Downloaded and installedthis app but can't find the widget. The app is running according to the CM7 app manager.

Okay never mind problem solved! Great app!

The idea came from a similar windows mobile application which was called "Null keyboard".
Still SAMSUNG KEYBOARD appears!!!
I bought this app from the market.
SAMSUNG KEYBOARD still appears once after that it disappears.
Is it possible disable this also?

I'm not sure what you mean?
What device and ROM are you using?
On-screen keyboard
I'm on GALAXY TAB 10.1 + OVERCOME ROM + DROIDBASEMENT Kernel.
First time it onscreen keyboard appears and then it disappears.
Is it possible to disable PERMANENTLY ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD?

Sorry, but i still don't understand it.
If you turn null keyboard ON, the onscreen keyboard should never show.
I have no indication that this no longer works.
See the enclosed screen shots.
It happens very FIRST TIME I start using the BLUETOOTH KEYBOARD.
And RESETS to SAMSUNG KEYPAD.
Hm, are you sure you selected Nullkeyboard as the active keyboard before?
I don't think i can prevent the system from switching keyboards, the question is rather why it is switching them.
Dark3n,
This issue happens on my Galaxy Tab. I've installed SwiftKey X ('cause, as a Brazilian, that was the only way I found to add accents to my words), but every time I turn on the BT Keyboard, the system itself switches Samsung Keypad on.
When that happens, you can long-press the writing area and set your favorite keyboard on, and you won't have to do that again till the keyb is turned off and on again.
Probably, what pathuri97 wanted was a way to block Samsung Keyboard to turn itself on.
Oh, and by the way: does your app work w/ accents or other languages?
Blocking the Samsung Keyboard from turning on is probably not possible, without removing or completely deactivating it.
I currently don't have a bluetooth keyboard, so i can't test how it reacts to different languages, sorry.
Can you recommend one ?
Mine is a great one. As I still can't post links, look for "Leather Bluetooth Keyboard Case Cover for Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" P1000 New" on Google - it's the first hit.
Works great, and is a great armor for the GTab - makes it look more stylish as well

[Q] Google voice search on Custom Rom

Hello and sorry for my English.
Your forum helps me a lot about my new phone Galaxy Note.
The Custom Rom is really beautiful, but here is my problem.
I use very often the voice search Google for French is the best.
Can add in a custom rom because it is often absent.
I already installed the 2.1.4 apk.
Everything works except in the SMS.
The microphone is off
thank you
New Google search and all update is installed.
Voice not works in SMS
I tested Rocket ROM V17 V18 V19
small up for me thanks
Help me please lol
It's (the Mic) not available on the keyboard?
the mic is available but disable in keyboard
On the desktop with the widget all works. "Send Message to xxxx, I arrived" works well
in the keyboard when i push in mic button, the voice search don't start.
The mic picture is blocked

I am having this same issue with several custom ROMs that I have installed. And I have done a full wipe prior to installing, and I have run the jBroid Kernel Cleaning Script, and still cannot get Voice Input to work on either the standard keyboard or Thumb Keyboard. I have it checked in Settings when I can - in some ROMs the checkbox is greyed out and I can't even check it.
I have been searching high and low for a fix for this. It worked fine on my stock KK9 ROM and on Antoniomistretta's fine KK9 custom ROM, and I had it working on Rocket ROM for a time. Now I can't get it activated and it's driving me crazy, because that is a feature I use multiple times every day in Messaging app.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Laggy Keyboard + Advice?

Hello.
I think that i'm not the single person with this problem / bug whatever you want to call it, a "LAGGY KEYBOARD".
In games the keyboard annoys me so much :silly:... Example: Today in ScribbleNauts Remix...where you must enter so many words.. click on the text camp and nothing...where is the keyboard? NOWHERE! But the text indicator appear.
I must touch back button and touch again the text field...3-4-5 times to see the Keyboard.
Somebody Fixed this? ( I already tried many roms and all have this problem )
And if you can give me an advice .. an app or tweak to have more Ram available?
And sure my configuration:
Samsung Galaxy S i9000
Android 4.2.2
Base: i9000XXJVT
Kernel: CyanCORE v1.8s
ROM: CyanAOSP 1.8 LVM

Sorry the only advice i have for you is to try an different keyboard. My favorite is KII keyboard from the play store. It is free. Once you download and install the keyboard you have to enable it by default to be your main keyboard. The keyboard app comes with a step by step guide to help you do this. Hope this solves your problem.
I think you should update your rom and kernel first and then try.
Remember if your running custom kernel and roms you always need to update!

It's because of unsufficient free RAM unfortunately... What you can do is to put the keyboard app to LMK whitelist (CyanCORE supports it) and it won't be killed by the OS.
LMK Application
I'm now on Gamerz Rom Legend, it's working very nice, less laggy & more RAM available.
I already tried many roms, all have a LAGGY KEYBOARD less or more.
For those who have this problem i discovered a series of programs/tricks that may help you.
- Greenify *ROOT* - helping you to make a list with the programs that you don't want to stay active.
- ROM Manager Premium -> App Manager - let you to freeze how many apps you want. If you don't use a app frequently you can freeze it to have more RAM available.
- Big Advice . Facebook eats a lot of RAM . You may check in Rom Manager at active apps.
Tested a lot of App Killing apps...and no effect, i don't recommand you this kind of app.
Still testing more apps & roms, and i will come back with new advices.

In case you are not comfortable with in-built keyboard, you can always try other keyboards available on play store that will make you more comfortable while typing.....
cheers.....
Problem already resolved although currently I'm using MIUI2 by FR very much smooth.
