i just bought my captivate. Right off the bat, I notice that I can't set up more than two Exchange / Activesync accounts.
Is this because Samsung crippled Android, or is this flavor of Android just limited to only a maximum of two Exchange / Activesync accounts?
Do you know if Froyo out of the box supports more than two Exchange accounts or is this another Samsung crippled feature.
I don't really understand the benefits of rooting the phone.... Except I hate the Samsung UI and would like to rip it out if i could.... I will definitely rip it out if this is limiting me to only two Exchange Accounts.
I set my 6 gmail accounts and home exchange and corporate exchange as Activesync as opposed to Gmail and two exchange, and i want a unified inbox...
Is there a changelog or feature list of the different flavors of Android?

Now I'm already betting I know the answer to this, having tried to do it for so many years on WM, but I thought it's worth trying again now I'm with Android!!
Anyway, what I want to do is be able to sync with two different Exchange servers (my work and home servers, that is). I thought I might be able to do this by using two separate Activesync clients, so I set up the HTC Mail client to sync with my personal email on my own server and then downloaded Touchdown to handle my work account. It's nearly perfect, in that it works and I have two separate Exchange accounts pushing updates to one device. Take that Windows Mobile!
But, whilst I am more than happy having two separate inboxes for my email. what I really want is both calendars appearing in the HTC calandar. I don't want to check for appointments in multiple places, after all. Seeing as HTC's calendar already checks across several different calendar sources, I'm guessing this is, at least technically, possible.
So does anyone know of any other Exchange Activesync applications for Android that would do what I want - or am I still hoping for too much from Exchange?
(On a separate - but related - note, I nearly fainted when I discovered Outlook 2010 could have multiple, active Exchange accounts in the SAME PROFILE! I've only been waiting for that feature since Outlok 2000!)
I've posted a Touchdown feature request about being able to have two different Exchange accounts. I also mentioned that it would be great to sync between the accounts as well.

Sync your Touchdown account's calendar with your phone through Gmail. Downside is it needs a pc online with Outlook+Google Calendar sync running
Outlook->Google Cal sync -> Gmail calendar -> phone's calendar

However, as it seems the Hero will be getting Android 2.0 and that supports multiple Exchange accounts, I think I'll just wait for that to come out. Seems the simpler option and I've been waiting for a phone to have this functionality since WM2003 - so I think I can wait a little bit longer!
I don't believe the limitation is in the standard e-mail client, but then again the standard 2.1 android client doesn't sync the calendar either. I have a colleague that has android 2.2 on his evo and has no exchange account limit. I'm guessing this is another AT&T imposed limit to get you to pay for their "corporate e-mail" data package.
not sure what your talking about. I have two exchange accounts on my phone via activesync push. And just added my Live account today making a total of 3 accounts on my captivate. I was able to do this on all versions of firmware.
I will try again, but when I attempt to add a third exchange account, I'm told that only two exchange accounts are allowed.

Just wanted to note that I have run across the same message while simply trying to change the password in one of my two Exchange accounts. Using JF6.
This happened to me when my password expired. I had to delete the account. It's getting annoying, now that it's happened again.
2.1 (JF6/JH7) = 2 Exchange account max
2.2 Froyo = no limit but the stock email client in JI6 and JJ4 are very buggy.
Hi, I have the chance to buy an unlocked/unbranded Galaxy S, but I need your advice about the following:
a. Exchange Mail/Calendar/Contact sync, this is a deal braker for me, the only experience that I have with android was the Milestone, with the Milestone using the mail program or TouchDown was imposible to make my exchange account work, mail worked sometimes, calendar and contact never.
My company use Exchange 2010 with enforced security, I have no problems using it on my symbian devices (E71 and now N97 mini), of course WinMo phones also work without problem the same as iPhone (my wife work with me and her iPhone works), I have no partners with android phones to check with them. Asking anything to my IT is not an option, my company is large (+250K employees) and they won´t make exceptions.
b. Can I use hotmail via IMAP or only POP? (please, don´t suggest to use Gmail, I also use Gmail but need access to Hotmail)
c. My country is not android market "friendly", any experience using Market Enabler to access the market and buying on it?

imap works with the stock client but you're better off with K9 from the market (it's free) as it supports imap push and works well.
For b. you can use gmail (a. I'm not sure but you can try it)
Let me explain:
On gmail Settings > Accounts and Import
In Send mail as:
Click on Send mail from another adress (follow the steps)
Then under:
Check mail using POP3:
Click on Add POP3 email account (follow the steps)
Now you will be able to recieve and send message from and to your hotmail account.
If you don't want to do it this way look on community.seven.com for their mail app
NB! Your company Exchange administrators could (and should) in any time to exclude any phone OS to synchronize according to the company policy for security or another reason.
Question a:
- this should not be possible in the Eclair native eMail application (version 2.1 of Android). This might be possible in paid applications, if they have full MAPI compatibility.
- this should be better possible in the Froyo (version 2.2 of Android). Don't know if it works out of box, but...:

the samsung modified email app push works for you? I only checked with the stock firmware i had (JF3) and didn't have push for imap
btw: i'm personally not a lot in favor of importing stuff to gmail. that's embrace and extend at it's best: they read all data for their statistics. So ok it's a google os with a lot of such stuff but i'd rather separate some things when possible. (note:k9 is giving full satisfaction, just wondering about stock)

4 accounts from hotmail
3 accounts from yahoo
12+ accounts from gmail
i hardly use my PC for email now since i got the phone, it's amazing!
Many thanks to all, one thing that Android doesn´t lack is user´s support. Since the N8 is delayed again I ordered the Galaxy S to give it a try.
I can respond in general that if you going to use Galaxy frequently with GPS, WIFI, Email then carry your charger or USB plug.
I found that even with light usage the battery needs to be charged everyday which I find it that I cant use it as my main phone as I travel a lot and I need more than 2 day with light usage of phone.
I have 2 major e-mail servers that i have to be able to connect to, one is a hosted exchange instance and the other is a Lotus Notes server.
I have a subscription to Commontime's Msuite software which in Windows Mobile, creates a new mailbox separate from my exchange server and allows both to peacefully co-exist.
However, in android, they rely on the ONE exchange account on the phone and this would block my access to my exchange server.
Are there any stand-alone mail apps that would allow me to connect to the second account and for all intents, allow my phone to access 2 exchange accounts?

Yeah, I did. Stock 2.1 doesn't work, but found it worked great with Froyo (2.2) - cognition.
On my old nexus S I am able to setup up multiple exchange accounts native.
I do an internship in 2 company 2 days in a week and also work in another company 3days in a week and I'm also planning to get office 365 for business for my private company (might sound complicated but it's workable). Doing the maths I need to be able to setup 3 exchange accounts wich works perfectly on my old nexus. (in fact need to set up 4 but I can live without the 4th one).
The important part is mail for 3 of them and callendar for 2 accounts (and if possible see google callendar + exchange callendars in 1 view based on colors) all my contact are on gmail since they overlap and gmail makes it easy.
I was setting up my phone on the htc website "https://start.htcsense.com" but at the end when I reached setting up accounts I'm only able to setup 1 exchange account is this on the device the same or not. Already preordered my htc one so would love to know if I have to cancel my order or not before it arives

It is possible to set up multiple exchange accounts using the HTC email application on the HTC one.
The application in itself is graphically beautiful and a pleasure to use.....however it is functionally lacklustre. Managing folders is a nightmare, the colour of each account cannot be edited etc etc
Do yourself a favour, buy Enhnanced Email from the market and use that.
I also use a pay application for calendar (Business calendar).
Alternatively...wait until an AOSP rom is released...and you will have the same identical software experience you had with the nexus device.

It is a shame that HTC did not refine their email app. Because it looks fantastic and is really smooth.
BUT
You cannot hide/unhide folders. Visualising emails is a pain as it defaults back to the "all messages" option...and thus if you have multiple accounts....and receive over 100 emails a day...it looks like a mess.
Enhanced email does not look pretty and the Dev has not been too active as of late...but it is functionally faultless in handling multiple accounts and calendars.
Touchdown from nirodesk would be perfect...except...they do not support syncing multiple account simultaneously.
K9 no native exchange support (WebDav does not work on Exchange 2010 servers)
Moxier Email has native exchange support but, imho, is just an inferior version of Enhanced email.
I will certainly look into enhanched email
I liked my old setup with native exchange mail client on my nexus since it looked like the gmail client (with much less features but still worked) and it worked perfectly with google calendar
but I'm willing to give sense a try even if I have to buy some new apps
