Can't get default Tether to work on 2.2.1. - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hi, recently I upgraded to G.O.T 2.2.1 with CM6 for my Milestone. I am wanting to try out the default 3G Mobile Hotspot and USB Tether setting. But I'm having problems.
3G Mobile Hotspot: it tells me "Cannot setup data link."
USB Tether: My computer does not seem to have RNDIS drivers. I have read and understand I needed to install Windows Mobile Device Centre (I am on Windows Vista). I did but still cannot find the drivers for: RNDIS Ethernet Data and Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device.
How can I go about troubleshooting these errors? I know I can use other 3rd party app to do tethering, but I'm hoping these default stock one will be able to do its job so I don't need more apps install. Please assist.

Have you installed the Motorola drivers & MotoConnect software?

Will that help?

The 3G Mobile Hotspot requires carrier support, that is probably why it is not working. The only carriers I have actually heard of that support it are in Canada, Telus (my carrier) and Rogers.
Rogers does not even carry the phone but the guy had sim unlocked his Milestone.

I'm using Cronos CM6 rom and there was no tether app by default. Just searched market for "tether for rooted devices" and it worked flawlessly. It's wifi tether of course.

What is the 3G Hotspot .apk name? I want to delete it since it's useless.

Tethering applications like EasyTether and PdaNet is very unstable for me. Everytime my USB connection will drop within seconds. I cannot figure out what is wrong even after trying to change USB cable. The G.O.T 2.2.1 default USB tethering does not work for me because it seems like I cannot find a driver for Windows RNDIS thing even with Windows Mobile Device installed. Anyone can offer any kind of help? Not sure if this is G.O.T 2.2.1 or CM6 issue.

tethering?

I want to use my future Hero as a modem to access the internet. Is this possible? I could easily connect my nike to my Ubuntu machine over bleutooth. So I am a bit surprised to read on the net that it is not so easy (due to google blocking tethering apps)? Any pointers?

well when the phone gets released ... root it (once a method is found that works).... then install wifi tether for root users
already done
Hero already has usb tethering built in, its under wireless controls in settings, there's an option to share mobile networks via usb
Hope this helps
Will this work with a Mac ?
No one is for sure yet. It hasn't worked in the leaked versions, even the shipped ones, so we won't know for sure until it is released in the UK on August 15th.
Bluetooth PAN should work as long as the Hero advertises itself correctly over Bluetooth.
Well that's the hopeful theory
That is currently a no-go as well. The Hero (device, not ROM) hasn't been rooted yet & Android throws a fit if you try to listen to the BT socket without root access. That's why the current BT tether apps for the Dream/Magic require root. Even the OBEX app BlueX in the market requires root to recieve files (but can send without root).
Sorry lol, I wan't it too.
Ouch... well thx for the heads up on that... I think
mmm... hopefully a solution will emerge either via BT or USB. But then the telco's are getting smart to the fact that people use their contracted and allowable (ie payed for) unlimited internet (I'm on an unlimited data Orange plan since my old Touch Diamond) do do a very bad thing...
Use it to transfer data

But, the worth is that there are no single carrier who offers this phone and we are 1 day before official launch in EU!!!
Its available for preorder only in one shop for whole country for flat price of 500E, yay
unbelievable
Haha I've changed that release date so many times based on several different sites. That is the date on amazon.co.uk but I know carriers in some places are getting them earlier. Sorry lol. So whoever gets one, is the "Mobile Network Sharing" option enabled in settings?
In the netherlands they gave 75 away for free
I got one
will be delivered next week ^_^
Has anyone got the Mobile network sharing option working??? I can't get my laptop recognise the device in this mode...
I can confirm that the built-in usb tethering works on the Hero.
1) Plug in usb
2) Home screen -> Menu -> Settings -> Wireless controls -> Mobile network sharing
Your computer now sees a usb network adapter; The hero runs a dhcp server, so you can get all network settings from there. On my laptop (running Fedora linux) I did not have to do anything, NetworkManager automatically detected the new device and set up networking. I don't have a mac, but I assume it would work automatically as well.
PS: I bought my Hero from http://www.handtec.co.uk without contract. I'm using a 3 Ireland mobile broadband sim.

That's excellent news! I'm running Windows 7 so I suppose it's just a driver issue. I will keep trying.

Will this flag up with the provider? on t-mobile 3gb mobile internet per month.. you have to pay alot more for mobile broadband so dont want to use this then find on my bill theyv charged for tethering?
On winMo third party apps never flagged up however I fear this app seems more regulated?
Thoughts?

It shouldn't do no, you are still dialing to their network in the same way you would on your phone, just there is a link for your computer to access that network.
I used the 3gb web and walk for 18 months and had a program on my winmo device called WMWifiRouter which did the same kind of thing (and Joikuspot on my Symbian) and used my laptop via my phone, never any issues!

yer had exactly the same apps as you mate. although wasn't happy when WMwifi became shareware
Just the fact this is prebuilt into the phone. Surely tmo won't have missed that?
OK got this thing working with Windows 7 32bit with the drivers for 64bit posted by Donge900 (thanks mate) on the HTC Sync thread here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4246028&postcount=19
Working perfectly!!! Happy man

Wireless Tether never works for me!

Hey guys so ive tried ever wireless tether app under the sun and none ever seem to work for me.
Im running Cyan's 4.01, PdaNet the wired version works flawlessly for me when i tether it to my computer, however done of the wireless ones EVER work for me, ive tried both aNetshare and the "Wireless Tether for Root" App that is floating around on the forums here, neither have ever worked for me
i have absolutely no problems connecting my computer to my G1 via wifi when using these programs, however the connection is always Peer to Peer and Local only, never internet and it never works
any ideas?
What OS are you trying to tether with?
Ensure your wifi network settings have DHCP set....
ALSO if you're wifi uses a NON-Microsoft Wifi settings software (e.g. Intel's or Broadcom) disable it and use the microsoft stack.
Are you trying to connect via Ad-hoc? Also are you using the WEP encryption? Does it give you any errors or just doesn't seem to connect?
The computer im connecting with is running Vista.
Im not using any form of WEP encryption is 100% open, it has no problems connecting peer to peer but the internet is inaccesible via tethering, it connects fine with no errors but it states local only with no internet access
Also as another side note, i use a program called SwiFTP which runs FTP via wifi so i can transfer file to and from my computer and G1 wirelessly , however that system never works, whenever i go to enable it, it says "Error Opening port, check your network connection" and the program does not work, ive tried changing different ports, i used the default port 2121 and it cannot open it, i also tried other random ones like 23 etc and it can never open a port or seem to work
Are you trying to connect via Ad-Hoc?
No, im using "Wireless Tether for Root Users" app downloaded off this forum
I think that is the problem. When you try to connect to the G1 on your computer, you have to set up the computer to connect via Ad-Hoc, not on the G1.
Not sure of the entire setup process, but go to the control panel and click on set up network connections (or something along that line) somewhere in the options of connection types there should be Ad-Hoc. You will have to enter the network name and confiure the WEP encryption, but it is pretty easy.
You should be able to figure it out from there. Let me know if you have any more problems.
access control option
have you checked the access control settings? if this is enabled, you have to manually allow the machines internet connection.
Hey, I had to apk's fo rthis the signed_andtether_1_52-pre2.apk did not work. The file labeled Signed_andtetehr_1_52.apk works everytime.
Firewall?
Sure your Vista Firewall is on? If so FORCE it off and try again...

How can I USB Tether?

I've just updated to the latest Cyan and the thing I'm most interested in is the USB tethering. I know all I have to do is have my phone plugged into the computer and check the Internet Tethering box, but after that I don't know what else to do. The device was installed onto my computer after I checked the box, but is there something else I'm supposed to do?

i havent tried it yet but i believe you are supposed to look for a network on your computer
yes, on vista for me it automatically set up the connection, try searching for one, also to be safe make sure you are running the very latest which is 4.2.3.1. we have used pdanet a paid app, and this has improved the speed dramatically. hope you get it working!
After the device installs nothing happens.I've tried searching for connections on the computer, but it doesn't work. I have my phone connected to a router, so would that be a problem? I'm, not exactly sure if I'm supposed to tether the actual T-Mobile network or if I can just tether wifi.
Wouldn't work for me on wi-fi but worked perfecly fine on T-mobile's 3G. Fast too!!! I streamed some videos with no problem.
Windows Vista Home Premium x64
Found driver and connected without my interaction.

Can't get to internet from tether...

Not sure if this is the right place for this...
Hi I have a G1 running the TheOfficial TMO DRC83 - US v2.2.1 + Expansion Pack and I can connect to the phone via WIFI tether, but I cannot get to the internet on the laptop that I am connecting from. I tried enabling Access Control and Authorizing the laptop, and I have tried disabling Access Control all together. I have tried connecting to an XP laptop, a Vista laptop, and an Ubuntu laptop. No glory... Help?
Sounds like you aren't using any software, which would be required for tethering.

I don't understand what you mean, I am using Wireless Tether for Root Users (my G1 is properly rooted), and I am trying to browse from Firefox on the laptop... I have also tried pinging a number of addresses. I have a good IP on the laptop, but it seems that the G1 is not forwarding the connection properly.
...scrap that...
misread
try downloading wifi tether. not wireless tether, WIFI TETHER. try this link
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
over on the right hand side there's the file section. download the one for htc, NOT GALAXY.
tethering wifi
try "anetshare" i already had a problems like u had at the beginning... the operating system included didn't works (DRC83)
thanks

[Q] USB Tether APP for Captivate Root Users

Ok Guys,
I got rooted, I installed Wireless Tether App for Root Users.
On my personal Laptop, I can connect to the WiFi Hotspot. Works Great!!
On my Work Laptop, I cannot connect to the same WiFi Hotspot because..
"Your network administrator has blocked you from connecting to this network".
I was told that AdHoc WiFi networks are blocked on my Work Laptop. So what are my options now?
I was wondering about USB tether. How to get that? Please suggest.
Thanks

Install a 2.2 rom and use MobileAP, it's an infrastructure hotspot. I can even tether my Android tablet to it. I have used Cognition and now using Serendipity. Awesome. Simply awesome.

I second this. You can even tether other devices to a 2.2 device with no troubles at all. Even wireless tether goes wonky on me sometimes, but mobile AP just works
You could also try Easytether. Although it costs money, and involves installing the software on your computer, it works. I used it with my not-so-fantastic G1 from forever ago. (to see this app in the market, you may need the market access apk.)
Hopefully this helps a bit.

I am stuck at updating the Software. I Click on Software Update in the Settings Menu and it say "Communication in Progress..." this goes on forever and never does anything.
Do I have to undo Root? to update the software to 2.2.
You say "Install a 2.2 rom" can you provide some instructions where and how?
