I've been looking for one myself and simplerom has been the smoothest and most problem free one I have checked out in past 3 days.

Ultimate Droid 1.0.0 is by far the smoothest and quickest ROM that I've run.

Huge fan of Cyanogen 6.0... just switched to the latest nightly and it's even better. That's just my .02

My buddy wants some help rooting and wants better battery life, any suggestions? (Im on an evo so im unfamiliar with droid roms)

I like Cyanogen nightlies. They're fast and work. Not sure if there is a big difference in battery life. I just rooted a couple weeks ago and keep trying different ROMs, Kernels, Themes, settings combination, which tends to keep me charging.

Id definitly have to say UD 1.0.0 or MIUI for droid. UD for speed, smoothness, stability, and themes. And MIUI for speed and just plain aesthetic appearance

I just can't give up the features and customization. I've just loaded nightly build 160 and the new features in it rule. There are a couple of bugs, but that's because it's not in its stable release yet.
As far as themes - I make my own and just Morph them in. It's never a big deal and they work with any version of CM because I'm only changing PNGs. All of the conflicting text colors can be modified within CM Settings.
Android: it's whatever you want it to be.

ShadowRom v.0.2.1 P3 of 1ghz Kernel. Fast as you need it smooth as can be and battery life is amazing! Smoked glass theme is a nice touch on top of it all.

cant go wrong with liquid frozen yogurt 1.71 frg83 2.2.1 froyo... fast and reliable.

i have bugless beast now
i am trying to get cyngnamod but its not liking me... it wont download

id go with ud 1.0.0. for battery life. simplystunning 4.9 for rediculous speed. i used chevyno1 1.1ghz kernel for both roms

Shadowrom v0.2.2 best battery life and I have tried all roms sorry but IMO shadow rom tops them all with battery life and settings. Only down side to shadow rom only kernels you can flash are p3's but it fast and very stable

CyanogenMod 6.1 RC3 with P3Droid 125/1100 MHz Low Voltage makes me pretty happy. I imagine the production version will be out post haste.

Best ROM IMHO
I present to you sir, a ROM that is fast, stable, and has tremendous battery life. What more can you ask for? The ROM that I speak of is called Charity, and I have supplied you today with a link to such a ROM.
androidforums (dot) com/droid-roms/211268-rom-charity-smoked-glass-themed-v-10-froyo-2-2-1-fast-stable-great-battery-life (dot) html
With this, I am running 1.1 GHz with a promise to go higher using chevy1s kernels. It has bloatware removed and I ran a 1400 on my benchmark today. It is excellent on battery life, I use it from 6am to about 10pm, with texting all day and music playing for 3 hours of the day, and mild browsing of internet.
Just try it, its magical! *-*

Love MIUI. I've used it on both the Droid and the Incredible. Stunning.

[Q]Kernels?

Hey guys coming from the evo forums with a question for you all. My buddy has a Droid which I rooted for him yesterday and I was looking for some kernels for him. Do any exist?
There's a bunch in rom manager he can try. Personally I tried a handful and never noticed an improvement that was worth my phone seeming hotter and battery life decreasing even a little (I'm on my phone alot). I've had the best results just using setcpu and over/underclocking the stock cyanogen kernel.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, cyanogen was the first thing I flashed for him. haha
Thanks again.
What Rom is he running?
I know of no compatible Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 kernels in the Rom Manager, but I could be wrong.
Kernels are pointless, all they do is eat your battery.
I have to disagree. I've been using OC kernels since first rooting my phone. I personally see a pretty sizeable difference between running 600mhz and 1000 or 1200mhz. There are many kernels out there that run at 1000 on less than the stock voltage. As for the battery life I really haven't noticed a difference. I gan get a full 10 hrs of moderate to heavy use out of my phone before I hit 20% battery. Cruise on over to droidforums.net if you like. They will have everything that you need to set your buddy up

All roms are different its user choice .

I'm currently using it right now. Its pretty good. But now it has been updated to version 3.2. Might go flash it tomorrow.
im running the 3.2 version
installed it 2 days ago
seems fine to me..
I was using darky's for a long time but since hes taken a break i've been exploring other rom's. I've been on simple honey 3.1 for about two weeks and really like. I have been getting outstanding battery life. On average two days of pretty heavy use, with wifi on and email sync. Been quite happy with it. It had a few bugs such as black on black text but 3.2 has fix that.
I can tell after some weeks of simply honey 3.1 it has strong points against other roms and some little bugs (ex. text on black) that seems to be fixed in 3.2.
Currently i'm 3.2 but battery life in 3.1 was better than every original, that's for sure.
Bye
Thanks I notice that battary life in 3.2 maybe little bit lower than the regular anroid Rom but this is a very good Rom I haven't noticed any bugs yet
rom has very little effect on battery relative to the kernel: Simply Honey 3.2 has excellent battery life because it utilizes the GTO kernel
it's still an excellent Rom but what differentiates various Roms from one another regarding battery use is the kernel they use
Maybe darix can do a battery re-calibration and see how's the new battery life. Should be better than normal rom.

at first it didnt last over 12 hours no matter what after a few days it was fine.
hows the gps on dis rom?

Whats the best rom for now?

Hey,
at the moment im running nightlies latest version.
But im searching for something more stable, and maby faster.
Its hard to folow witch one is the best there are so many different once.
So Someone who tried most of em? With one is the best
Tnx allready!

Hi I'm using Gueste 2.1 (with SR1 kernel, Go Launcher and the ICS theme from the subforum). Overall it's a great ROM, the battery use graph says i'm using it for 4 days (2G, 45min wifi, 25min calls and some photos) with 1 charge . That's insane, i've only managed to get 1.5-2 days with stock. Speed is better than stock, but it is not buttery smooth in Settings menu. I'm waiting for Gueste 2.2 with the new kernel, developer says it will be smoother. Hope i helped!
Well, instead of running cm nightlies you could try CM7.2 kangs those are better than the nightlies and also more stable.

You people that have the option to turn 3g off are lucky my network forces it so if its switched off i lose network coverage, they only allow 2g switch if your not in a 3g zone which is rare so my battery gets eaten in a day.
i agree eith you. cm 7.2 is real stable, but sometimes i got bsod. its real smooth and fast. im not turning off my wifi. battery life is not so good.imho

Hello!
Define best rom!?!
It is last but not least a question of taste.
All the latest ROMs (CM7.2-RC0-KANGs, MIUI 12+, custom roms based on stock source V20m and up) seem to be pretty stable…
All have their pros and cons.
MIUI has a UI concept similar to iOS – if you like that – go for it…
CM7.2 has a more vanilla approach of gingerbread…
…or a stock source based rom (i.e. Gueste2x) with the look and feel of the original LG stuff, but with more speed and less bugs…
All these latest roms will do for everyday use.
I like CM7 most but that is just my cup of tea.
oke peaple tnx for your reactions !

[Q] Recommended ROMs/Kernels

Very n00bish question here, but I'm having trouble finding an updated source of comprehensive information. I accidentally smashed the screen on my Fascinate, so I have to fall back to using my Verizon OG Droid.
It was running old software, of course, so I flashed the newest CM7 nightly (update-cm-7-20120226-NIGHTLY-sholes-signed.zip). Also updated the baseband to the newest I could find (C_01.43.01P).
What is the newest or recommended ROMs/kernels these days? If there is an updated thread that lists them, that would be just as good.
Thanks!
I've been happy with Droid Concepts (Final Build 13). It's froyo based with plenty of options.
I have been very happy with Pete's Bugless Beast GPA 19 running ChevyNo1 uLow voltage kernel 1.0 Ghz. It's a stock Gingerbread based ROM that is very stable and great battery life.

I am using the cm9 now. It is stable enough for daily light usage. There is some lag when opening and closing apps due to lack of ram. Android automatically closes background tasks when shortage of ram and reopens again when foreground app is closed. Even Camera is working now but still laggy. Launcher performs buttery smooth after all icons are loaded. Try this rom.

Very nice info! I've been running Steel Droid 10 for the past few days with the included ChevyNo1 low voltage 1ghz kernel. It's nice looking, and runs pretty good. Not buttery smooth like the froyo cyanogenmod ROM's I used to run back in the day, but it's alright. I get about 18 hrs of battery life.
As tempting as the ICS rom sounds, I don't know if it could compare to ICS on the Fascinate. I was running AOKP, and it was a thing of beauty.
I've been thinking about rolling back to a froyo based ROM, but I haven't yet. Decisions, decisions.

I'm on SD10 also, it's really nice, I'm getting great battery life and performance. It's smoother than most GB based roms I have used.
ICS is actually very smooth on the D1 it's just very...unusuable for daily use. It's getting there very slowly.
Going back to froyo would be so hard every time I try I always end up back on GB because it has fancy things I find hard to live without anymore. DC13 is very very stable and fast though if you do go back
I have to give huge props to Pete Alphonso. I used my OG Droid as much as I could and pushed it to the limits every single day for over two years. I've installed probably 20 different roms and out of all of them the one that stands out was GPA19. I was able to overclock to 1300mhz stable. No other rom would allow me to run past 1100mhz.
It's clean, simple. Doesn't have any bloat or unwanted extras. I can't say enough about how great the GPA/BB ROMS have been. Pete is the master of the OG Droid
Best Rom??
Hi
Personally I think that FroYoMOD is the best or Steel Droid
i have tried CM7, Liquid Smooth, ChevyNo1's Simply Stunning, MIUI, and Steel Droid. i just recently gave up on CM7 after a year or so because it just became too buggy. IMO, Steel Droid (currently v10) is the best in terms of stability, features, and battery life. Liquid Smooth is a close second, although not as stable and feature packed. MIUI is very stable and quick if you want something simple, though, it just doesn't have the features that the others do. SS was always snappy, i just got terrible battery life no matter which kernel i used.

Favourite ROMs Based On Performance, Battery Life and Appearance

hey all, im currently running virtuous quattro RC3 which is a really nice rom. Looks nice, good Battery life...
question is, is there better? i tried ARHD but the battery life was horrible, any ROMs that really stand out?

Battery life is so 'subjective' to how you use the phone, apps and data that you are going to get answers across the board.
I for one have found that ARHD and the stock 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 ROMs give 'me' excellent battery usage. I can get 2 days out of a single charge, which completely contradicts your experience, doesn't it?
Also CM7 has excellent battery life for my usage pattern, but I prefer the Sense camera app.
Cm7 I have to charge my phone once a day. I generally put it on charge at night before I go bed. But heavy usage will mean I have to charge as soon as I get in from work etc. ..... tbh for ner this is good my iphone needed to be charged in a morning then topped up at night. I havnt done too much with other roms to come up with justified comparisons.

If you want a sense 3.5 ROM I'd suggest you Virtuous Affinity, it's very stable and works great
It all comes down to preference and usage. Theres no perfect rom for everyone you just have to try and experiment
Personally im using MIUI, smooth, easily customized and battery isn't too bad about a day with: data on all day, heavy on texts, medium on calls and games occasionally.
Based on performance i say the trinity sensation and the ice cold sandwich would be nice but im not too sure about the battery life

IceColdSandwich 5.5 ROM is the best

and thanks all for the replies, might have to try icecoldsandwhich, seems to be a hit

ARHD 2.2.0 have best battery life for me, more then enough for full day of heavy usage. Usually lasts for 2 days. I cant get even close results with other roms.
Ice cold sandwich is my favorite. After using 4.0, I can't go back to 2.3. ICS is just so much nicer looking and better performing IMO.

4 days? nice. ye, i ended up flashing Ice Cold 5.6
Best battery for me was ARHD with Sense elements removed, easily.
Best performing was CM7.1.
Best looking Ice Cold Sandwich 5.6 which I'm currently running now.
Favourite overall is Ice Cold; pretty damn good performance and decent (but not amazing) battery on Tiamat kernel.
i'm waiting CM9 lol
Ice cold sandwich does pretty good overall. Actually it has some minor things to fix but you need to see before you buy so you're gonna love it.
