I am trying to create a one click root and unlock but I am afraid to test it. Does anyone know if rooting a already rooted phone will brick it?
I don't know if this helps at all but when I rooted mine I used one click root then used unleash the beast which had root in the package. No problems here. Also I've heard is nearly impossible to brick this phone

Idk if this will help but I had fc problems with some programs that required root and I found the update.zip that contained the new superuser app and flashed it with the old superuser app installed and it worked perfectly.
So even though I'm not sure my answer would be yes.
Hey guys,
Trying to help a buddy at work unlock his driod1 - he updated to FFRG22D - now any of the single click root methods do not work..
My phone is a nexus1 and did not have these issues: As I am not a Droid owner / user I am hoping people in the forums here help to get him rooted.
I would like to get him on to ClockWork - so we can flash CM6 on his droid.
Can someone point me to a good guide to rooting this?
Cheers,
hey if he is OTA FRG22D can you please post his build.prop file for me to take a look at, it can be found under /system on phone memory, i am working out a market fix for rooted frg01b users like my self, i wont update until after frg22d is rooted for real but i can spoof the version and fingerprint if i have that file contents
i found what i was looking for after a while, thanks.

Have you had any luck? My buddy had his phone replaced and the new one has this update, but he would like me to root it again for him.
can you not just download the old froyo, put it in the sd as update.zip, flash that then root?
FRG22D hotspot app
I have the OTA FRG22D stock unrooted. In-order to root it, I used the following procedure, from droidforums:
"Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version". After installing the custom recovery:
"MC1_A855_1282081087_Recovery-Only_SPRecovery_0.99.3b.sbf", I was then successful installing a wifi hotspot app

The one click root apps do not work with FRG22D. The exploit those apps used was patched with this release.
The FRG01B & FRG22B stock/odex/deodex only work for devices that are already rooted. Meaning that if you do manage to imstall them you will not have root.
You need to do a *sbf* back to 2.1 or2.01.

I'm new to the Droid 1 I came from the Eris and it is easy!!!!
Okay so I did it with out even having internet on my pc or Linux laptop which thank god I finally got internet today!!!! Use the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin method... Super easy I actually downloaded using my D1 transfered file from my phone to Linux laptop and changed the Windows commands to Linux commands and it worked and then I went in to market and flashed Clockwork!!!! Oh and yes I'm on FRG22D the phone came as a replacement for my Eris and it already had this build on it... PM me if you have any questions...

It doesn't.
The method that RodNoc_eR just mentioned above just worked for me. Here's the link again: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/74028-root-droid-1-regardless-os-version.html
for those of you who are doing this the complicated way, THERE IS a ONE-CLICK METHOD, since I cant post links, Google SuperOneClick, download and find instructions, its pretty much as easy as downloading the .zip, extracting it to where ever you want, right click on SuperOneClick application and Run as Administrator, make sure USB debugging is checked, DO NOT mount as USB storage device, click root button on the program, let it do its thing, and wa-la!
You have acheived root! Be sure to download the Custom Recovery of your choice, which is as easy as DLing Rom Manager from the Market and flashing ClockworkMod, I just did this and am now happy I spent time searching and not typing commands into the SDK, super easy and it works for the DROID 1 FRG22d, I just did it.
Enjoy!
I'm using Universal Androot, Ti Back Up Pro, Root Explorer, SetCPU, Ad Free Android for Root, Launcher Pro Plus, QuickBoot(not sure if this works with the phone yet) and I used Uninstaller for Root to erase all the bloatware and BS. Did a great job too, didn't have to track down all the files individually. Anyway I wanted a place for everyone, especially noobs like me to have a place to come and get advice about things over our heads. Oh yeah and I have a custom startup sound thanks to the Boot Screen thread. Working on getting all the images to replace the Cricket screen now. This is my first android, and WILL NOT be my last.
Awesomeness!
I had attempted a root on my Zio when it was stuck on 1.6 but my prayers were answered with this weeks update! So, thanks for this thread man. I'm already loving 2.2 and I'm about to try your root process and see how it goes. I'm so happy I can finally use this thing! I actually parted ways with my iPhone today. I'm just going to invest in a bigger sd card.
Anywho, I'm still hoping for some custom Zio ROMS in the future.
I'll let ya know how the root turns out.

Yeah I have an 8GB and it's not going to be enough soon, especially when ROMS start coming out, that is if we ever get clockworkmod support. Until then rooting and using custom launchers is about as good as it gets. Tons and tons of reading helps. The more the merrier.
just installed a custom boot screen over the Cricket one. With a custom boot sound. Got the boot screen from fate43 over in the Boot Screen thread. Good work and much thanks. made the boot sound with a music file converter I DLed from Google here on the comp. Freakin kid in a candy store I tell ya........
Done!
So I ended up using Universal Androot to root and Super Manager to get rid of the bloatware. So far so good.
I've got the stock 1G sd card now and I never wanted to bother upgrading since I had 32G on my iPhone. I don't miss that thing at all now. I'm finally freeeeeee!!!
Now for boot screens and beyond.
This is far more rewarding that jailbreaking any ....other....devices.
Which version of Universal Androot did you use?
1.6.5.2 beta I do believe were the numbers. I go to look to be sure and it's just gone from my phone. So look around, just type it in to the search bar or google it. I'm almost certain of the numbers though.
hmmm thats the only one ive been finding id post a link but it wont let me because im so noob on this forum. Im new to android so i'm hesitant to root it until I know I can return to stock. Any recommendations for being prepared to do this? would I need to rip the current stock rom?

rooting your phone does not alter the "stock" rom in the way you're thinking - once you root, you can never go back - this is not true. All rooting does is give you super user access, so you _can_ use apps that require root access (like widgets for rebooting, root file explorer, setcpu, task killers, etc...), as well as other benefits.
Universal androot makes it way too easy to root/unroot your phone (one clickety to root, one clackety to unroot).
Once you get a little more familiar with android, you'll be able to really see the benefits of having root.
Thanks for the info

Sounds to me like you flubbed up somewhere. Unroot, factory reset. Reinstall. Make sure you're still rooted(should be). I had same problems. Only factory reset helped. Make sure you back up first!!!!

b4 you reset the phone and go through that whole process, try wiping the data cache of all of your apps that use root. Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>Root Explorer>Clear Data
I probably needed that. Taken care of now and forever more. Thanks fate

Did what you said fate and it still wants to fc even with the new version of root explorer i even did a hard reset like i just took it out of the box with 2.2 on it and still the same and the only 2 programs i installed was root explorer v2.14.1 and androot v1.6.2 beta 5 and im doing the soft root btw but i doubt that would make a differnce. I do know that when i soft root and have wifi enabled my wifi meter on the task bar will disappear and when i goto settings to turn it back on under wifi it says error in small letters the only way to get wifi back is to reboot the phone. Fixing pcs and windows is alot easyer then phones lol.
I tryed to use another program that you need to have root access the program is root uninstaller and it fails to install while the phone is rooted restarted the phone that root uninstaller installed fine and did a soft root with androot the program will come up but wont let me uninstall anything but yet androot is saying woot your device is rooted. I'm starting to think universal androot dont work right no more on android 2.2 as it worked perfectly on android 1.6 and all my apps worked perfectly to root now i can't root at all any other way to root other then androot?

Hello, i have a Nexus One, Android 2.2.1, build FRG83D.
I bought a 2nd hand one, it has installed te Superuser permission but seems not rooted, i mean i tried several tools like titanium backup, that need root acces and they didn't get it.
I tried get root acces with universal androot, it says that its already rooted, i try to root it again, it fails.
Im wondering what can I do, I was thinking in flashing to a original rom, not cooked, but im not sure if i need root acces to do that.
How can I delete Superuser permissions and root the phone properly?
I'm new in android and I'm getting a little lost here.
Thanks in advance.
Now I'm just a noob myself with this stuff too. It sounds like u got it 2nd hand if so I would find an ruu or what ever is required to get ur phone back to original out of the box state. Then try again. But make sure to get one that is rootable because I have seen ones that aren't.

You probably are rooted. However, some root apps (like Titanium Backup) require busybox to be installed as well as being rooted (otherwise those apps will give you an error saying you are not rooted, even though you are). Just install busybox from the market, and you should be fine.

You don't need to flash a cooked ROM if you don't want. Just flash a pre-rooted stock ROM, like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968396

I suspect it was rooted, but got an OTA update at some point, losing root, but keeping the Superuser apk and possibly even su and busybox, but without the necessary privileges...

Then you are not rooted. You just have the Superuser application installed on your phone (does not give root access). Re-root like danger-rat indicated.
EDIT: danger-rat beat me to it!
Just Rooted my phone, following the method danger-rat posted here.
Thanks a looot!

Sure, read the threads buddy. Check the stickies first, and the general app section.
Learn how to root first.
Then learn whatever you want to do with your phone.

rooting by two methods
to root galaxy mini the easiest way is doing this by an update.zip or using superoneclick by shortfuse.org
For gt-s5570i and gt-s5570 here is the update.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576202 here you can get the update.zip
download update.zip and copy it to the root of your folder
1. switch off your phone press the home button and while pressing home button start the phone you will get to the recovery mode
2. in the recovery mode choose the 2nd option stated approximately as install sdcard/update.zip it will install the update
3. choose the first option reboot system now you mobile will restart if you find superuser app in you app drawer then your mobile is rooted
how to use superoneclick
1. download and install superoneclick on your pc
2. connect your device to your pc via data cable
3.start the usb debugging in your phone you can find usb debugging in setting--->application--->development--->usb debugging
4. when pc complete the driver installation open superoneclick which you installed earlier after oppening restart you pc
5. after restarting connect your device again open superoneclick and click on root in about 2 minutes your mobile will get root
6. superoneclick will ask for a test run it it will send su command on your device you will have to tap on yes to complete the test some time a toast message will appear showing that app has granted superuser permission it means your mobile has been rooted [rooting gingerbread with superoneclick will take more time than froyo]
Are you sure that SuperOneClick can only root 2.2 devices ?

I think superoneclick is only for rooting phones.
You should use Odin to update to a new Android, thus flashing a newer Android.

how you get rid of stock apps through odin
Okay i used the update.zip to root and after restarting I found the super user app. But when I open it says no " no apps in list" basically I can navigate through the app, i just dont see it do anything, I still can't figure out how to remove stock apps, what am I missing?

Hmmmm so after some pondering I decided to try something different. I installed ES file explorer and in the settings menu activated both root settings available, doing so led the all powerful superuser flash screen granting superuser powers to the es file explorer. now using the explorer I have tried deleting the preinstalled apps that came with the phone but imagine they still refuse to uninstall!! What is it gonna take to get rid of em. The operA mini 5 and quick office are annoying me everytime i see them oh oh and the useless samsung apps app that always wants to download a huge update whenever I try using it keeps taunting me. They need to go.

my stock froyo had too many useless apps already installed that i couldnt remove...........so i guess when i flashed GB, those apps simply vanished.
i didnt do anything special with odin to get that result......

i also faced the same problem so i just removed it.
Now that I am certain I have rooted what next? I was under the impression that rooting would give me powers such as changing app permissions that were installed and those that are to be installed such as whether to allow or deny internet access, deny unnecessary permissions that some apps demand etc. instead I am disappointed to realize it only grants superuser powers to only apps that demand such powers. Meaning it only gives apps with demand for more power the licence to roam free unprohibited instead of offering me the power to curb the powers of some apps that I consider have too much permissions already, am I right?
So now that am root compliant what next? What apps do you lot consider to be essential utilities in a rooted phone that previously I could not install?
